Chapter 14

Kichirou sat on his sofa in his living room, his knees curled underneath him and a warm cup of coffee gripped in his hand. He was staring at the wall, his eyes not even focused on anything. In his entire life, he had never had a heat that had run so smoothly. He now understood why some omega’s became so promiscuous. It actually helped. It was as if he had a constant fever and having sex was a suppressant.

With none of his heat lingering in his system, Kichirou could now think more clearly than he had been able to for the last week. He could remember taking the birth control pills, but he barely remembered if it was his idea or if it had been Jun’s. Thinking of everything they had done in this last week, Kichirou shuddered. Suddenly, he had a thought that made him freeze.

“Jun?” Kichirou called out, knowing the younger man was close. He turned his head and looked back towards his room. Jun walked out, a towel in his hands as he scrubbed his wet hair, drying it vigorously.

“Mmm?” Jun murmured, coming forward and lightly kissing Kichirou’s forehead. “What’s up?”

He finished drying his hair as Kichirou stared at him, their eyes never leaving one another. Jun smiled a lazy smile, and Kichirou couldn’t help but return it. He gripped the coffee mug in his hands tighter as he began to say what was on his mind.

“You never left this last week, right?”

“I’ve been by your side this entire time.”

“Won’t….”Kichirou paused and he finally looked away from Jun”s eyes. He glanced at his hands, rolling his thumbs over the rim on his mug. “Won’t your parents be worried?”

Jun tensed beside Kichirou, his hands clenched into the towel. Then, he sighed and sat down beside Kichirou. He stretched out his arms, and Kichirou willingly went into the embrace. Jun sat behind Kichirou, his chin resting on Kichirou’s head. He squeezed Kichirou tighter to him, loving the feel of their bodies touching.

“No,” Jun answered honestly, “They won’t be worried.”

Kichirou felt the reverberations of his voice travelling along his head, and his eyebrows furrowed. How could a parent not be worried when their child disappeared for an entire week.

“The rumors…about your father and your stepmother…they’re true?”

“Yeah, it’s true.” Jun moved his head and nuzzled his cheek against Kichirou’s as if he was a cat. He sighed and snuggled further into Kichirou, as if he was trying to hide himself beneath the older man. “My dad is probably never coming back. He never wanted children in the first place. My sister and I were both accidents. To him, there is no reason to stay if he will not receive anything from it.”

“Has he called or came by?” Kichirou moved forward and placed his coffee mug on the small table beside the couch. To fill his own hands, he grabbed one of Jun’s within his own, tracing his knuckles and tendons lightly.

Jun shook his head, “I got a call around a month ago from him.” Jun’s fingers clenched Kichirou’s, their fingers intertwined, linked and stable. “I didn’t tell my step mom. But he told me that he had found someone else and that he was much happier with her than with the three of us. He told me that he had never loved us in the first place and that I needed to understand that there is more in this world to him that me or my sister.”

Kichirou lifted their still linked hands up to his mouth and kissed the back of Jun’s hand lightly. “That’s too cruel.”

“He doesn’t care.” Jun whispered, squeezing Kichirou tighter to himself with his one free arm. “We were never part of his life.”

“But he is the reason you have a life.” Kichirou reminded him. Jun shook his head, nuzzling his nose into Kichirou’s neck.

“That doesn’t matter to me.” He sighed deeply. “He’s just a sperm donor. Not a real father.”

“And your step-mom?” Kichirou asked quietly. His grip on Jun’s hand adding a slight bit of pressure. “What…is she like?”

“She…” Jun paused as if trying to find the right words. “Well she’s like the step mother from Cinderella.” He thought of all the things his step mom had ever done to him. All the mean things she had ever said. All the ways she had thrown words in his face. He knew, deep in his heart, that he would never be able to find a reason to stay in her household. Not even his sister could make him stay. “ She’s cruel, evil and always plotting something. If only I could get a job I would find my own place to live far, far away from her.”

Kichirou leaned back, and looked up at the ceiling. He was glad at this moment that he had a loving, stable relationship with his own parents. He couldn’t imagine what it would be like to not have that familial love all your life. But hearing these words from Jun broke his heart. These were not words that should come out of any sixteen year old’s mouth. They should never have to feel as much pain as Jun did throughout his life.

“What if…” Kichirou thought out loud, “what if you lived here?”

Jun froze, his heart felt like it had stopped beating in his chest. He pulled away from Kichirou, holding him at an arms length. Kichirou just looked at Jun with clear, bright eyes behind his glasses. He blinked and tilted his head.

“If we keep it a secret from the school, I don’t think there will be a problem. Also, I could ask my cousin if he could get you a job at his bar so you can begin to save up money for your own place. You would have to help with the chores and with meals but I think it would be fine to have another in the apartment. It’s not as if you were a hindrance within the last week anyway. ” Kichirou continued to ramble on and it took him a second to realize that Jun’s fingers were digging into his upper arms and that Jun was as still as a statue, besides those eyes that moved back and forth as if searching for lies. His mouth was slightly open from shock.

“You mean it?” Jun finally croaked out. His lips was trembling, and he had to blink his eyes several times before it made him realize that he was not seeing an illusion, this was the real thing before him.

Sitting in front of him, his smile bright, Kichirou nodded his head. He leaned forward, and touched his lips lightly to Jun’s. Jun was still frozen, his mind running circles.

“I mean it, Jun.” Kichirou whispered. He moved slightly, straddling Jun with his legs. He lifted his hands, grabbing Jun’s face between his palms. He touched their foreheads together, their eyes locked. “You can live here.”

Jun whimpered from all of the emotions he was feeling and he grabbed Kichirou’s chin in his hand, smashing their lips together with force. Kichirou felt all of the emotions Jun held back in that kiss. Love, desire, hope. With every step the both of them took towards each other, Kichirou knew he would take any chance to do anything for Jun. Their lives were becoming intertwined more and more, just like their fingers had been earlier.

Kichirou smiled into the kiss.

At this moment, there was no place that he would rather be.
