Chapter 5: Snake Heart

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

The first lady was named Liu Shuyun, a concubine daughter of the Liu Shi Clan, the last of the four Sects of Refining Artifact, born of the patriarch Liu Chenghe and a concubine.

At first, He Yuanqi had a marriage contract with the Liu family’s first daughter, but just a few days before the wedding, the first daughter had an argument with her father and took a horse. They did not expect her to never return. After getting on the horse, the horse suddenly upended, and the first daughter fell off the horse and died.

He Yuanqi was very distraught by the loss of his soon to be wife but wanted to marry anyway. The Liu family at first felt this was unreasonable, and were unwilling to marry Liu Shuyun over. But seeing He Yuanqi’s attitude was strong, they also did not dare to offend him. Helpless, they had to bear the pain for their first daughter as they hurriedly held a funeral, then let Liu Shuyun marry into the He family instead of the first daughter, becoming the He family’s main wife.

Lu Ming, because of the early death of his parents in his previous life, entered the entertainment industry very early and came into contact with people from all three religions. The ability to understand people and things, to read people’s minds, these abilities had not been left behind. The first lady looked beautiful, but at first glance was a mean person, not that good. The author’s tone of voice when recounting these past events in the stallion novel suggested that the death of the first daughter of the Liu family, who fell off a horse, was quite related to this Liu Shuyun.

Lu Ming retracted his thoughts and stood at the doorway just before going forward. When she saw Lu Ming, her arrogant look suddenly faded away and was replaced by a hypocritical smile, beckoning Lu Ming, “Qingci, you’re here, come here.”

Lu Ming walked over, nodded slightly and said, “Hello, First Lady.”

Liu Shuyun pulled He Qingci to sit down on her soft couch, smiled lightly and glared at him, saying, “Is Qingci still blaming me? Today, you don’t even want to call mother.”

Lu Ming smiled coldly at his words, the word ‘mother’ was not something he could just call anyone, let alone this snake-hearted stepmother. At that moment, he became silent and bowed his head without saying anything.

Liu Shuyun saw that Lu Ming did not say a word,  let out a sigh and her eyes were tinged with a sorrowful color. She spoke quietly, “The fat cook falsely accused you of stealing the master’s spiritual plant soup. My son can’t learn how to make Artifacts so the master put you under my control, so how can I not obey? This is a slight punishment for you, so that you remember your own fault. The more I thought about it, the more wrong it was. You’ve always been good and obedient. Where would you do such a bad thing as stealing spiritual plants soup? So I sent someone to investigate carefully. It was the fat cook that had a thief’s heart, and quietly stole the soup to take to her nephew.”

Lu Ming was speechless, being whipped hundreds of times and punished to kneel under the hot sun for half a day, but only a little punishment? This simply refreshed his world view, the ability to open her eyes and tell lies was really first-class.

Liu Shuyun painfully reached out and touched Lu Ming’s head, like a loving mother, she continued, “The fat cook stole spiritual plants soup in the first place and falsely accused the young master of the He family in the second. I have already sent someone to beat her to death, which is a good way to take your breath away.”

Lu Ming heard the words, so shocked that he raised his head to look at Liu Shuyun, full of disbelief. The fat cook, though servile and subservient, but a bowl of spiritual plants soup was not a crime worthy of death, this Liu Shuyun was so vicious, and would do anything to kill. Human life for her was like grass and mustard, she could throw it away.

Seeing Lu Ming’s expression and reaction, there was a flash of triumph in Liu Shuyun’s eyes, and she ordered towards the boy standing by, “Go and bring up the fat cook’s body, so that the young master can take his anger out.”

The boy answered yes, and ran out. In a short time, the fat cook’s body was brought up.

The cook was covered in blood, and almost all the places on her body where he could see flesh were hit by a leather whip. Her white bones were vaguely visible, plus the blood coagulated, it looked as if she had been soaked in blood from war.

Her eyes were wide open, and she had obviously died with great reluctance. Even at her moment of death, she probably did not know why she had been killed.

Although Lu Ming had seen dead people before, he had never seen such a bloody and horrible death. His pupils could not help but tighten, his breathing suddenly stagnated and his fists clenched as he tried not to scream.

Liu Shuyun frowned slightly, pulled out the silk handkerchief in her arms, covered her nose, disgustedly saying, “Quickly take it away so as not to stain the young master’s eyes.”

The boy immediately came up to carry the body out, Lu Ming then exhaled a breath of foul air in his chest, the palms of his hands had become sweaty at some point.

To be honest, since he had been in the entertainment industry for so many years, he was used to seeing the big waves, but also avoided many schemes and calculations, and only gradually mixed to such a high position. Even so, he had not encountered such a sinister thing like this.

But he knew that Liu Shuyun’s practice to completely kill the chicken to make an example of the monkey, was all to deter him, and give him a wake up call. She was warning him about what she could do and what trick she could use in his future.

In the eyes of Liu Shuyun, it was clear that there was only respect and inferiority, there was no right or wrong.

Lu Ming’s heart felt cold. He had surprisingly bumped into such a ruthless character and it seemed his existence was a thorn in her side. And now he had no one to rely on. He was unable to fight against her. If he wanted to live peacefully, he needed to dance around with her and eliminate Liu Shuyun’s wariness in order to facilitate his future actions. The best way to cope at this stage was undoubtedly to be patient. Only in this way could he be completely free from her control.

When Liu Shuyun saw Lu Ming’s expression, she knew that her purpose had been achieved. As if nothing had ever happened, she turned her head towards the maid, “I almost forgot, go and bring the young master’s medicine soup.”

The maid nodded yes and went to the dining table, brought a bowl of medicinal soup over and brought it straight to Lu Ming.

The soup was hot, and the strong and pungent smell of medicine immediately hit him. Together with the smell of blood that had been in the air when the fat cook’s body was brought in earlier, the two smells almost made him sick.

Liu Shuyun saw Lu Ming hesitate to reach out to take it, eyes turned, hooked the corners of the mouth up. She reached out to take the white porcelain bowl, pursed her lips and gently blew, stirred a few times with a spoon, then handed it to Lu Ming. She coaxed softly, “Qingqi, quickly drink it while it is hot. This elixir is one the master specially sent someone to pick from the secret realm of the Immortal Mountain in Kunlai. Not everyone in the cultivation world can afford to drink this elixir. There are only a few of them, and it is very precious.”

Lu Ming heard the words. Although, on the surface he did not show emotion, at the bottom of his heart, there were huge waves. Fine thin sweat immediately covered the corners of his smooth and full forehead.

Does he drink this medicine or not?

Awful woman. Hope she gets what’s coming.
Don’t think there’s a choice about drinking this ‘medicine’, which no doubt is doing anything but good.
Thank you both for the chapter.
