Chapter 80: Never Deceive You

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

The ward fell into a two-second silence. Duan Yizhou’s expression changed suddenly. He took a silent deep breath, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he struggled to control his emotions. He looked at the doctor and said, “Do the examination immediately.”

When he was first brought to the hospital, only a slight swelling was seen on the back of his head, and it was not clear what caused it. Plus, Luo Songran was pregnant and couldn’t do a CT scan, and there were no abnormalities observed after two days of observation.

… How could his sight disappear?

“Start with an MRI,” the doctor instructed the nurse beside him. “It might be temporary blindness caused by delayed bleeding.”

Luo Songran blinked again, still finding things blurry. “It’s really blurry. I woke up just now, and I thought it was because I had just woken up.”

After saying this, he didn’t hear Duan Yizhou’s voice and suddenly felt a little panicked. He furrowed his brows and turned his head slightly, trying to discern Duan Yizhou’s whereabouts. Before he could react, he was embraced in a broad chest, strong arms enclosing him in a comforting embrace. The overwhelming sense of security and the familiar scent immediately calmed him down.

“Baby.” Duan Yizhou’s slightly hoarse voice sounded in his ear, his expression slightly dazed. Could this man be crying because of him? Duan Yizhou held the slender figure in his arms, but it couldn’t calm his mood. It only made him want to crush whoever had hurt Luo Songran.

But he couldn’t.

With great power comes great scrutiny, and any action must strictly follow procedures. He absolutely couldn’t leave any handle, and doing so would always be unfair. This kind of injustice was that he clearly had the ability but couldn’t solve it in the most straightforward way. Tit for tat just didn’t work.

Even if he had the ability to keep He Yu crawling for the rest of his life, so what? The harm had already been done, and no matter how it was dealt with, he wouldn’t get the result he wanted most.

“I’m fine.” Luo Songran reached out to encircle Duan Yizhou, using his face to find his ear, then whispered softly, “Don’t cry. There are doctors and nurses here watching you. It’s embarrassing. Let’s wait until we get home to cry together.”

Hearing Luo Songran’s words, Duan Yizhou felt even worse. He was comforting him even though he was injured like this. This guy’s temper had really improved a lot. The more he did this, the more guilty he felt.

“Your father has already arranged for you to take a leave of absence. After giving birth and recuperating, you can return to school. During this time, I will be with you every moment. Wherever I am, you will be there too.”

“Do you want me to cling to you?” Luo Songran rested his chin on Duan Yizhou’s shoulder, suddenly feeling a wave of nausea rising from his stomach. He frowned, feeling a bit nauseous.

“Yeah.”

Luo Songran hugged Duan Yizhou tightly. “Then I’ll hug you now.”

He didn’t want Duan Yizhou to feel anxious because of worrying too much about him. If Duan Yizhou became anxious because of his susceptible period, what would happen?

“Baby, I hope you don’t feel like I’m controlling you, because I’m really afraid. I’m afraid you’ll make any mistakes.”

“I know, I know. I’ll be good during this time.”

“Then let’s go for the examination now.”

“Okay.”

However, the situation was not as good as imagined.

“How are the examination results?” Duan Yizhou’s expression became serious as the doctor took off his mask and walked out of the office.

“It’s delayed brain hemorrhage. When he was brought to the hospital, there were no symptoms or broken skin on the back of his head. Now, after waking up, there are slight symptoms of bleeding inside the skull pressing on the nerves. His vision will recover once the blood disperses, but he needs to be observed for a while.”

Duan Yizhou fell silent for a moment. Since Luo Songran woke up, his brows had not relaxed at all. The bad news kept coming, and the heavy emotions and guilt accumulated in his heart made it difficult for him to digest.

“… What will this process be like? Will he be uncomfortable?”

“He will be. He may experience headaches, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting in the short term.”

“Is there a way to relieve it?”

“Rest more, keep your mood stable, eat healthily. If he feels uncomfortable sleeping with his head on a pillow, let him sleep on his side. And since he’s pregnant now, he can’t sleep on his stomach. If he feels tired sleeping on his side, try to hug him. It may be hard work, but there’s no other way.”

Under the gold-rimmed glasses, Duan Yizhou’s eyes harbored a gloomy and fierce look, far from the gentle and elegant alpha in front of Luo Songran. His hand, hanging by his side, loosened and tightened, as if trying to relieve himself.

“Okay, I understand. Thank you for your hard work,” he said in a deep voice. Perhaps because of his excessive restraint, it had the opposite effect, releasing pheromones that exuded a strong sense of oppression, even though they were weakened by inhibitors, those around him could still feel it invisibly.

The doctor cleared his throat.

Duan Yizhou glanced at the doctor. “What’s wrong?”

“Mr. Duan, try to restrain your alpha pheromones as much as possible. Although your little beta can’t smell them, his body, carrying your child, can feel them, which will make him uncomfortable. Don’t be too fierce.”

Duan Yizhou was speechless. How could he bear to be fierce to Luo Songran? When had he ever been fierce to his little ancestor? Now, he just wanted to kick this guy into his pocket and take him wherever he went.

Luo Songran noticed that Duan Yizhou had changed a bit these days, especially after confirming a mild cerebral hemorrhage pressing on his nerves. This man became even more attentive than before—not that he wasn’t attentive before, but now he was even more so, almost to the point of being overly cautious.

Though he only injured his head and had no problems with his hands or feet, and even though he still couldn’t see, he was slowly recovering. However, he needed to be carried when getting out of bed, fed during meals, and even when sleeping, he had to be held without letting go. Duan Yizhou’s level of doting on him was such that any further indulgence might be excessive.

His dads also took turns coming to the hospital to watch over him, constantly reminding him to behave and not wander around. He thought to himself that of course he knew; he wasn’t so willful as to be unaware of the severity of his condition. He could be a little more obedient.

The day he was discharged:

“I want to go see Jiang Yi again.” Luo Songran lazily leaned against the edge of the bed, wearing sunglasses, looking very relaxed as he let Duan Yizhou dress his feet and put on his shoes.

“Let’s not go see Jiang Yi for now. Let him recover for a while longer. Your second cousin is afraid that Jiang Yi will be sad if he sees you. He still feels guilty for not protecting you well.” Duan Yizhou squatted in front of the little ancestor, his large hands holding the delicate ankles to put on socks for him.

His gaze fell on the ankles, still bearing faint marks from the previous pressure. He gently rubbed his fingertips over the marks, feeling the slight roughness beneath his touch, his eyes darkening with emotion. He couldn’t bear to leave any marks on Luo Songran; no one deserved to leave any marks on him.

“Why is my second cousin suddenly so close to Jiang Yi? And why does he often go to see Jiang Yi?” Luo Songran remembered that yesterday, when his head wasn’t hurting so much and he was lying in bed feeling exhausted, he wanted to go see Jiang Yi. After Duan Yizhou brought him into the ward, he heard his second cousin’s voice.

That tone was a tenderness he might never hear from his second cousin again in his lifetime.

Unable to see and therefore not knowing what expression his second cousin had at the time, he was still a little puzzled. Since when did his second cousin have any involvement with Jiang Yi?

But he didn’t dwell on it too much. After all, he was there to thank Jiang Yi. If it weren’t for Jiang Yi’s protection, it could have been him injected with the second dose of differentiation special effects, and he could have been the one with one foot in the grave. Moreover, Jiang Yi differentiated into an omega for him; how could he not be grateful to him?

But just now, when Duan Yizhou mentioned it, he remembered again.

After Duan Yizhou finished putting on Luo Songran’s shoes, he stood up to wash his hands. As he got up, he heard Luo Songran’s questioning tone, his lips slightly downturned, “I was going to tell you about it that day, but I forgot after you said you couldn’t see.”

“Tell me about what?” Luo Songran tilted his head, trying to discern from which direction Duan Yizhou’s voice was coming.

“Your cousin is dating my assistant.” Duan Yizhou came out after washing his hands and saw Luo Songran’s expression, with his head tilted and ears perked up. He found it incredibly cute, but it also made him ache terribly.

After all, he hadn’t been able to see for two days, and he didn’t know when this bruising would disappear, especially when he said he had a headache and felt like throwing up. It really broke his heart.

“What?!” Under his sunglasses, Luo Songran’s eyes widened in shock, “Someone actually fancies Yan Nanchen??”

“I don’t think I should keep this from you. In fact, I want you to help Jiang Yi.” Duan Yizhou picked up a fisherman’s hat from the side and put it on Luo Songran’s head. He looked down at him, “Your second cousin lied to Jiang Yi, telling him he was Chu Beiheng. He interacts with Jiang Yi during the day as Yan Nanchen for business purposes, and at night, he dates Jiang Yi as Chu Beiheng.”

“…” Holy crap.

Luo Songran was silent for about ten seconds before speaking, “Damn, is my second cousin a scumbag? And then? What now? Has my second cousin confessed?”

“No, mainly because Jiang Yi has just differentiated into an omega and desperately needs an alpha’s pheromones to soothe him and stabilize his emotions. If we were to tell him now, he might break down.” Duan Yizhou held his hand as they walked out of the ward.

Luo Songran expressed disbelief, “I can’t believe my second cousin would do something like this. Even though he can be sharp-tongued at times, he’s not that kind of person. How could he possibly use my eldest cousin’s identity to deceive someone just for another person?”

“Because Jiang Yi dislikes your second cousin.”

It was midday, and the sunlight outside the hospital was strong. As they walked out of the hospital gates, Duan Yizhou instinctively pressed down the brim of his hat, worried that Luo Songran’s eyes might be uncomfortable.

“Huh?” Luo Songran listened, wondering what was happening now.

“I remember telling you before about how Jiang Yi was publicly called out by your second cousin for not wearing shoe covers in the research institute. Since then, Jiang Yi hasn’t had a good impression of your second cousin. So I’m also curious about what happened between them and how it developed to this point. But no matter what, if Jiang Yi finds out the truth, he’ll definitely break up with your second cousin.”

“Does my second cousin like Jiang Yi?”

“From the tone and attitude of your second cousin, it seems he really likes my assistant.”

Luo Songran clicked his tongue, “If Jiang Yi doesn’t want Yan Nanchen after this, it serves him right! In this situation, I stand with Jiang Yi. If it were me facing this, being deceived in a relationship, I’d crush that person into dust and dump them into the sea. There’s no way I’d forgive them. Absolutely not.”

Perhaps it was very hot outside; by the time they reached the parking lot, sweat had formed on Luo Songran’s forehead.

Duan Yizhou opened the passenger door, took off Luo Songran’s hat and sunglasses, and helped him into the car, supporting him as he sat down, “I stand with Jiang Yi too. If one day Jiang Yi publicly punches your second cousin, I won’t stop him.”

“Why stop him? Let’s punch him together,” Luo Songran tilted his head up, instinctively wanting to look at Duan Yizhou, but remembering he couldn’t see, he silently turned his head back and continued, “Jiang Yi is my lifesaver now. I’ll definitely protect him. You also have to protect my lifesaver, don’t let him be bullied by Yan Nanchen.”

“Baby, I would never do such a thing,” Duan Yizhou bent down to fasten Luo Songran’s seatbelt, planting a kiss near his lips, “I would never deceive you. Do you believe me?”

Feeling the kiss near his lips, Luo Songran chuckled as if he remembered something, “Of course I do. After all, you’re so old; you won’t find another tender grass like me if you look again. I’m still capable of giving you two tender grass babies.”

Duan Yizhou lowered his gaze, taking in the spirited and adorable demeanor of his little ancestor. His eyes were filled with tender indulgence, “Yes, I’ll never meet someone like you again, someone I’m willing to wholeheartedly devote myself to.”

So he just hoped Luo Songran would be healthy and safe. Besides that, he asked for nothing else.

Sometimes, there’s an ominous feel around wishes for their happiness. Hopeful that’s just me.
They are both being hypocrites here, though. DY deceived LS for a time, about who he was; and LS greatly deceived DY, in several ways ~ not least in how he seduced him.
Now, YN deceives JY because of their business fall-out and JY’s poor impression/not liking him. How is that any worst?!
Thank you both for the chapter.
