Chen Yang climbed into the car and put on the seat belt before suddenly remembering Kou Xuanling, “Kou Xuanling is not here yet, should we wait for him?”
“No need to. He has a driver’s license, he can drive back on his own.” Du Shuo stepped on the gas and turned the steering, driving forward.
When Kou Xuanling came out, there was no sight of Chen Yang or Du Shuo. His phone’s WeChat notification sounded and he unlocked his phone to find a message from Chen Yang telling him not to wait for them and to go back to the office on his own. Kou Xuanling shook his head and sighed. He turned around to greet the still absentminded Master Meng. “Master Meng, how about I give you a ride back to the Fire God Temple?”
Meng Fu rolled his eyes at him, “I made a harmless joke about your ancestor, why would you take it out on me like that? At least give me a heads up or let me prepare myself mentally.”
Kou Xuanling chuckled, “Master Meng has traveled to so many places and has seen so much, these are nothing when compared with your vast experiences?”
Meng Fu muttered, “I’m not Ma Shanfeng.” After saying that, he climbed into Kou Xuanling’s car to let him send him back to the Fire God Temple, “Is Wu Lingjiu trying to plot something against Chen Yang?”
“You noticed it?”
“It’s quite hard to miss.” All of the Tianshis that could attend the Taoist Association meeting were veterans. Plus, the information provided by Chen Yang alone revealed the many other hidden agendas. For instance, Chen Yang’s talent in the ghost arts and the special attitude of Wu Lingjiu towards only Chen Yang.
Anyway, it was obvious to Meng Fu. But luckily Chen Yang was a good natured kid and did not get easily influenced. If not, those old geezers in the Tianshi world who were particularly protective of their younglings and juniors would be heartbroken. Based on the gifts and magic weapons they gave Chen Yang, one could see how much they liked him. Not only because they cherish Chen Yang’s talent, but they are extremely pleased with his good character.
Meng Fu waved his hand, “As soon as the branch reported the news about Wu Lingjiu and Meng Xi to the Taoist Association, they already knew. Otherwise you think any of them would carry such lavish gifts on them just to attend a meeting? Ma Shanfeng never revealed anything about himself but was very cunning. Everytime he reported to the Taoist Association, he would often put Chen Yang in the focus. Those in the Taoist Association slowly noticed Chen Yang. You know how they all love the juniors, so they quickly paid him more attention. The more they found out about him, the more they liked him. Ma Shanfeng would also slip in Chen Xiao Yang’s secret here and there. Even after finding out the truth about him, they still couldn’t help but like him. They were big softies, they didn’t have the heart to give him up.
Meng Fu was sure that no one in the Tianshi community was as sly as Ma Shanfeng. That was such a waste of his talent, he shouldn’t have been a Tianshi but a politician. Ma Shanfeng knew how to read one’s fortune from their face. From the first time he met Chen Yang, he could read that he was someone who wouldn’t live long. But he survived, he was safe and sound and his innate talent was remarkable. It was impossible to say that there was nothing fishy with that.
Ma Shanfeng knew the truth but chose not to say anything about it. He was responsible for writing Chen Yang’s report after completion of every case. He would deliberately slip in a word or two about Chen Yang in front of the geezers of the Taoist Association, to leave an impression. Then he would gradually continue to leave a deeper impression of Chen Yang, describing him as someone who was brilliantly gifted, giving him the image of someone who was kind and just. So that when they find out about Chen Yang’s fearful fate, even if they want to nip something in the bud, they wouldn’t have the heart to get rid of this good child.
As long as he could create a small window of hesitation when they decide to deal with Chen Yang’s fate, that would give them a chance to fix things. But something unforeseeable, even by Ma Shanfeng, was the marriage between Chen Yang and Du Shuo.
At first, when Ma Shanfeng found out about Chen Yang and Du Shuo’s relationship, he just thought that would act as an extra layer of protection for Chen Yang. But when he learned of Du Shuo’s identity, not only did Ma Shanfeng not worry anymore about the Tianshi community finding out about Chen Yang’s ill fate, he even made the first move and revealed this secret to the elders of the community.
As expected by Ma Shanfeng, although the elders of the Tianshi community did not know about Chen Yang and Du Shuo’s relationship, they were reluctant to resort to the precautionary nip in the bud approach to deal with Chen Yang, even if he had a terrible fate. Not only did they not have the heart to do so, they were extra caring towards and brought Chen Yang lavish gifts. Just like how they would love and care for the juniors in the Tianshi community that were particularly more talented and were of good character.
Meng Fu smiled as he said, “If they know that Chen Xiao Yang and Du Shuo are together romantically, I’m afraid their heart would ache that they gave him such lavish gifts and magical weapons.” Imagining the scene, he couldn’t hold himself back from laughing out loud.
Kou Xuanling was confused, “Why?” Didn’t he say that the old geezers only gave him such lavish gifts because they doted on him?
“It’s true that they have a soft spot for him but to give him such lavish gifts comes with a hidden agenda. Once he has received the gifts and care of so many elders in the Tianshi community, it will be hard for Chen Xiao Yang to go astray into the demonic path like Wu Lingjiu.” Meng Fu smacked the back of the seat as he laughed, “Those old geezers care for the juniors, but they are also stingy. If they knew about Chen Xiao Yang’s relationship with the Chief, they would have just randomly picked a magic weapon as a gift, then poured him countless servings of chicken soup 1.”
Kou Xuanling recalled the scenarios with the Tianshis that he had dealt with while growing up and understood what Meng Fu meant. The Tianshis of the community would give gifts to the juniors when they meet for the first time to show that they care for them. The more generous the gesture, the more pain they felt after giving it. Seemed like it was a really big blow for them after they met Chen Xiao Yang.
Just at the thought of the scholarly faces of these old geezers suppressing to hide their shock and wallet wrenching pain after finding out the truth, was too funny for Kou Xuanling.
But these elders’ kind thoughts were indeed touching.
—
Du Shuo told Chen Yang the same things, exposing even the ever mysterious and cunning person, Ma Shanfeng. He was harmless and a loyal person despite everything and was always worried about the brats in the branch office.
Chen Yang reached in and took out the magic weapons from his backpack; from a Ruyi Jade scepter3What was fearsome was that within the five days, the woman could clearly feel death approaching, little by little and dying in despair. What made things worse was the elevator button that was within sight but out of reach because the space between the door grill was too small, she couldn’t reach in to press the button for the elevator. The hope for survival was right in front of her.
The young woman was startled, “That’s impossible…Did they modify the private elevators…because this happened?”
The old man shook his head, “They did not. That would have been such a big commotion to do so. The property owner paid to settle the matter. But another accident happened again, also on the eleventh floor. The family moved out, well, who dared to continue staying there after someone died in front of their house, not to mention so tragically. Plus, the family basically was one of the reasons why the woman died, no one asked them to put up a security door. After they moved out, an office worker girl moved in.”
The young woman herself was also an office worker, who just moved into the eleventh floor of that finely furnished apartment building a few days ago. She was shocked but still remained seated to listen to the old man, “What happened after that? Did someone ‘see’ something?”
“Of course someone ‘saw’ something. The office girl came home late this one time. When she walked out of the elevator, it was as if she had seen something standing in front of the elevator door, its hands and feet unmoving. It was standing right at the spot where the gap between the elevator door and security door would have been before it was dismantled. It was a nightmare, the office girl suddenly felt as if she was caught in an episode of sleep paralysis4. The elevator doors opened and the girl fell back, directly falling down the empty shaft. The cabin wasn’t behind her. She fell from the eleventh floor to the top of the cabin that stopped at the fourth floor, and died.”
The young woman got even more afraid, but she was still sharp, “How do you know about this accident so well?”
“I saw the surveillance camera. It caught the entire accident very clearly. I saw it very clearly. I lived in that building before. It was after this incident that they reworked the elevator.”
The young woman asked again, “But, the woman that was trapped in the gap between the elevator and the security door on the eleventh floor, didn’t anyone come to look for her for the five days she went missing? Did no one check the surveillance camera?”
“H-how would I know this?”
The young woman snickered, “Old man, you shouldn’t be so superstitious. What you just said are mere accidents.” She was relieved to find slip ups in the old man’s story and went back to join her friends at their table to order their food.
The old man turned to look at Chen Yang, “Young man, you do believe me, right?”
Chen Yang glanced at the building across the street and smiled, “Seeing is believing. I can only decide if I believe it or not once I see it with my own eyes.”
Although the old man was not satisfied with his answer, he was not unhappy either. After all, Chen Yang didn’t directly deny what he had said, “Sigh, you youngsters never believe in what I say. I think something is going to happen to that young girl.”
Chen Yang did not feel any ghostly aura of any resentful spirits around the young woman just now, so he didn’t immediately agree with the old man’s statement and just smiled. The old man waved his hands and said, “Up to you if you don’t believe me. No one likes listening to my advice anyways.”
At that moment the old man’s grandson came back and pulled the old man over to order their food. Du Shuo pulled Chen Yang away as well and ordered. Before the old man left, he swept a glance over the office girl just now then at the building across the street. He sighed while saying, “Why don’t you believe in evil?”
–
The next day, Mao Xiaoli picked up a list and handed it over to Ma Shanfeng, “Uncle Ma, can you take a look and see if there are any problems?”
Ma Shanfeng took the list, “Elevator spirits? Let me check.”
“Okay.”
Two hours later, Ma Shanfeng came out and said to Mao Xiaoli, “It’s a two star job, up for grabs.”
Zhang Qiudao, who had a popsicle in his mouth, walked over and asked, “Elevator spirit? What’s the story?”
“The owner of this apartment posted a job on the app. It seems like someone died in the elevator and became a lingering resentful spirit. A girl who returned late got attacked last night. She almost died, so the owner quickly posted this job. I came across it so I took up the request.”
“Are there any more details on this?” Zhang Qiudao asked.
“No. The customer’s intention is for us to drive away the spirits. If we are not able to release their souls, then we should at least drive them away to keep them from harming others anymore,” Mao Xiaoli replied.
“At least the customer is not heartless.”
Chen Yang came downstairs and heard them chatting. He asked Mao Xiaoli, “Where did these evil elevator spirits appear?”
“Hong Wan Apartment.”
Zhang Qiudao continued, “A high end apartment complex. Ordinary people simply can’t afford this place.”
“Oh, this place. I just heard someone talking about this apartment yesterday. I didn’t expect something to happen. Xiaoli, can you pass this job to me? I think I have an affinity with this job, let me handle it.”
Mao Xiaoli nodded, a little too readily, “Sure.”
Chen Yang met with the woman that got attacked. It indeed was the office worker from yesterday. She was all pale and ghastly looking now, lying in the hospital bed with a broken leg. When the woman saw Chen Yang, she was hesitant but asked him who he was.
Chen Yang stated his intention and went straight to the point, “I want to know, what exactly did you see last night.”
The woman held back her fear and answered his question, “Last night I had dinner with my colleagues and returned home late. It was already past one o’clock and no one else was around but a security guard at the front desk. I got to the elevator and pushed the button. From the fourth floor onwards, I began hearing loud thumping sounds from above. I thought it was another elevator coming down..o-or..something fell from above. But there was no movement, nothing. If it was so loud, it should be something heavy and that should shake the elevator or something, but it didn’t.”
At that time she was confused, then she suddenly remembered what the old man said during the day about a woman falling from the eleventh floor and it hit the top of the cabin that stopped on the fourth floor. The old man did say that the girl got home late but he didn’t specify what time it was, could it have been after one o’clock?
The elevator was still heading up and when the number ten lit up on the screen, the office worker woman heard a “pitter patter” sound. She trembled as she lifted her gaze up and met a pair of blood-red eyes in the elevator’s air-conditioning vent. It did not occur to her why there was a pair of eyes in the vent. She just stared dumbstruck…until a drop of blood fell on the tip of her nose.
The elevator door opened when it stopped at the eleventh floor. The woman shivered as she got out of the elevator. The moment she stepped out of the elevator, the cabin made a loud sound as it plummeted. She turned around and noticed that the doors were not closed, the cabin stopped at the fourth floor. And on top of the cabin was a corpse that was all twisted and broken. The woman wasn’t sure why but she could see the blood-red eyes of the corpse. She ran away in fear.
Running along the hallway, the lights flickered and loud thumping sounds followed behind her. It kept following her as she ran. She did not dare turn around and trembled so badly as she rummaged for her house card key. She swiped her card and as she was just about to enter her house, from the corner of her eyes, a bloodied and mangled face appeared. She was scared out of her wits, and that thing very quickly got in between her and the door, not letting her into the house.
The woman turned on her heels and screamed as she fled. She did not dare take the elevators, so she ran for the stairs. Her high heels did not stop her from running quickly, but the thumping sound kept following close behind. The office woman then hid in the fire escape door and the thumping sound gradually fell, as if a distant away. The woman was slightly relieved and came out from behind the fire escape. Only when she saw that the stairs were empty did she feel at ease.
She was worried if that thing would come back for her, so she hurried upstairs. Just as she got up from the floor, the lights in the stairway suddenly went out. She looked up and saw something crawling down from the stairs. The thing’s limbs were all twisted and distorted. Even so, that thing crawled down very quickly and was in front of her in the blink of an eye.
The woman’s pupil dilated when she saw that mangled face. She screamed at the top of her lungs and fainted after being pushed down the stairs, which resulted in her broken leg.
She was very sure, “That female ghost is the resentful spirit from the elevator!”
After gathering information, Chen Yang went to Hong Wan Apartment to meet with the property owner. When the owner saw Chen Yang, his first thought was that he looked too young and his face obviously showed that he did not believe that he was a Tianshi. But at any rate, this person took up the job from the app, so he could give it a try. He also requested to tag along Chen Yang when he captures the resentful spirit, this was to prevent Chen Yang from scamming him.
“I don’t mind but are you not afraid of resentful spirits?”
The owner snorted and said skeptically, “What’s there to be afraid of? If the spirits dare appear in front of me, I’ll kill it! Don’t try to change the subject, I will go with you tonight for sure.”
Chen Yang just smiled, “Suit yourself.”
The author has something to say:
- One thing is for sure when we look at the relationship between Yang Yang and Du Shuo, Yang Yang is very dependent on Du Shuo. Because there is only one Du Shuo in this world and is impossible to replace.
But to avoid any misunderstandings, I think I should explain. Initially Du Shuo played the father figure in his life, but after realizing his feelings for Yang Yang, he slowly tried to change Yang Yang’s impression towards himself, making sure that Yang Yang would treat him as someone of his equal level before he ‘ate’ him. (LMAO, eat as in to sleep with him, to embrace him, to make love to him, go figures)
Alright, these should be explained further in the extras.
- The incident of a female corpse stuck between the elevator doors and security doors did happen in real life. She was too fat she couldn’t reach the button and starved to death because of it- Taiwan elevator corpse.

He smiled, his eyes felt slightly damp, “They remind me so much of Grandpa Wu. They are obviously not related to me but can go to great lengths to try to keep me alive, teaching me the Taoist arts so that I can drive away evil spirits and ghosts. Even after finding out my ill fated destiny they still choose to protect me. I suddenly feel like I am such a lucky person.”
Chen Yang once loathed his own fate, because this fate of his he had extreme Yin body and grew up living among the harassment of evil spirits and often received death threats. His family even died because of this. Grandpa Wu also died from exhausting himself while fighting off the spirits that came to snatch his body.
But he still felt lucky, because he would always meet good people who treated him kindly. So many of them showered him with love and protected him so warmly without hesitation. It was true that there were people who feared his fate and rejected him, but there were still people who were willing to help him and showed him kindness.
So Chen Yang knew very well that he would never become the next Wu Lingjiu. He was not willing to disappoint and upset those who loved and believed in him.
“I am very thankful that I was able to become a Tianshi, standing upright and facing everyone with a clear conscience. Most importantly,” Chen Yang looked at Du Shuo with a smile in his eyes, “I met you, married you and fell in love with you. Brother Du, thank you for always staying by my side.”
Chen Yang lost his parents when he was ten, his grandfather when he was fourteen, Grandpa Wu when he turned sixteen, and that gained him nothing but the fearful eyes and cold shoulders of his neighbours. When he felt like he had lost everything, the sixteen year old Chen Yang had met Du Shuo. And from then on, he no longer experienced the separation of life and death, he no longer had to fear that his extreme Yin body would harm another person.
Du Shuo had appeared in Chen Yang’s life since the latter turned sixteen, playing the role of a parent, a brother and now his lover. He had been with him for almost seven years, and will for the rest of his life, even after death. He will not leave him or be separated from him.
Du Shuo took a glance at Chen Yang and sighed helplessly. He found a place where he could pull over. His hand wrapped around Chen Yang’s nape and pulled him into his shoulder, “Yang Yang, you know I can’t stand seeing you cry.”
Chen Yang broke into a laugh while crying and smacked him, “You liar. You are often the person that makes me cry.”
“Well that depends on where we’re at.” Du Shuo said softly against Chen Yang’s ear, his frown vanished and it was his handsome self again. The aloof and expressionless eyes of his softened, as if an almighty immortal has turned into a mere mortal, filled with emotions and desires. If one saw that face, one would fall so deep, madly wishing that they were the one that moved the deity’s immortal heart. “Whenever you are just a tiny bit upset, it breaks my heart.”
“I’ll turn into a foolish emperor, instead of the just and impartial Great Emperor of Fengdu. Initially in a mind only filled with the Great Laws of Yin and the statute decrees, a Chen Xiao Yang was squeezed in. That made me lose my composure as an emperor and panic like a mortal.” Du Shuo said and thought the image of himself all wretched and panicking incredulously. “Be it in earth or hell, or in the Six Realms of Existence, there’ll only ever be only Chen Xiao Yang. I happened to meet him and just so happened to have him in my arms. I am also very lucky.”
Chen Yang tightened his embrace on Du Shuo and smiled from ear to ear, “You never said things like these before.”
“That does not mean I don’t think that way.” Du Shuo gently patted Chen Yang’s back and was relieved to see that the latter was no longer upset. Chen Yang had always been strong, always showed his optimistic attitude and a strong perseverance in life.
The only few times Du Shuo had ever seen Chen Yang so sad that he could not even fall asleep were during the anniversary of the death of his parents, his grandfather and Grandpa Wu. It wasn’t until he realized he would get upset over Chen Yang’s sadness and get worried over his sleeplessness, that he began paying attention to Chen Yang. Not because of that sinister and bizarre life fate of his extreme Yin body, but because of Chen Yang himself.
After understanding his own feelings, Du Shuo took advantage of Chen Yang’s reliance on him, also using their Yin marriage to forcefully change the impression Chen Yang had of him and his position in his heart. He wanted to let Chen Yang know that he was not his father nor elder brother, but the person most intimate to him; his husband. He can embrace him, be possessive over him, rely on him, trust with all his heart and soul.
Du Shuo massaged Chen Yang’s nape and smiled with his eyes.
Therefore, when Chen Yang turned eighteen, Du Shuo made sure to cut off any opportunities of him ever getting to be in the arms of anyone but himself. He turned their relationship to the most intimate stage overnight, so fast that the latter was already embraced even before he could think of anything.
After stripping away his impartial and stern side, the Emperor of Fengdu was just an ordinary man who was calculating and domineering when it comes to love.
Luck was on Du Shuo’s side as he appeared in Chen Yang’s life at the right time. Because he had gradually transitioned from being the role of being his father and brother to the one of a lover, Chen Yang was only a little confused but accepted that transition quite easily.
If Du Shuo were to let Chen Yang know about the not so honorable tricks and methods from before, Chen Yang would probably let the matter slide. Because Du Shuo was his husband, and to Chen Yang, it was nothing only natural he would do so and no one else will ever be able to replace Du Shuo’s place in his heart.
Therefore, it was needless to say that Du Shuo was the most important person in Chen Yang’s life. There was no understanding or logic needed to explain why it was only natural, nor would any of these affect their judgment and evaluation of the law, nor how they distinguished between good and evil.
Chen Yang raised his head and gave Du Shuo’s lips a light peck. He smiled as he said, “But I like hearing your thoughts.”
“Then you better cherish this.” Using his thumb, Du Shuo wiped away the tears hanging by the corner of Chen Yang’s eyes.
Chen Yang was surprised, “Does this mean you’ll only say things that I like to hear occasionally?”
“Where’s there to cherish if I say them too often?” Du Shuo replied as he gave Chen Yang a kiss on the forehead, “Good boy.”
Chen Yang squinted at Du Shuo, he should know better than anyone that Du Shuo was not a man of lovey dovey talk, he would only say what was in his heart whenever Chen Yang was upset and needed some comforting. When Chen Yang’s mood was okay, one would never hear the same talk, no matter how much one tried. His mouth was hard to pry open and was a man of very few words. Even when one tried to please him, he would just lap up all the compliments but still not return a single word.
Chen Yang pounced on Du Shuo angrily, biting his lips, “I’ll give you a second chance, will you say something nice to cheer me up or not?”
“There are so many ways to make you happy, it doesn’t necessarily have to be this way,” Du Shuo calmly replied. Then he wrapped his arms around Chen Yang and turned his bite into a deep kiss. He kissed Chen Yang until he was in a daze. The latter was so confused he stopped insisting on Du Shuo to sweet talk.
Knock knock. Someone tapped on the car window. Du Shuo released Chen Yang and lowered the window, to see a man standing outside. He froze for a second when he first saw Du Shuo, then said, “Sir, can you move your car to the side?”
Chen Yang looked around and noticed that their car was blocking the parking space behind them, so he tugged on Du Shuo’s arm. Du Shuo just nodded and moved their car away from that spot and pulled over again not far ahead.
After getting out of the car, Chen Yang asked him, “What are we doing here?” They were at a big plaza, surrounded by a lot of buildings; a shopping district it seemed. Bustling with people coming and going.
Du Shuo pulled Chen Yang’s hand in his, “Didn’t you say you were hungry? Let’s go eat something.” He led Chen Yang into one of the buildings, entered the elevator and pressed on the button to the sixteenth floor. There were a few people already in the elevator, among them were an old man around sixty and a youngster in his teens, who should be a grandfather and grandson duo.
The old man held his grandson’s hand and asked, “Is this a private elevator?”
The youngster replied with a tinge of impatience in his tone, “No. Can you stop asking this question every time we take the elevator, Grandpa? Private elevators don’t exist everywhere? This is a departmental store, there’s no elevator that goes directly to a certain floor.”
“It’s best if it’s not.” The old man responded matter of factly.
The people beside them sneaked a few glances at the old man but did not say anything. Then he continued to speak, “You wouldn’t know how scary those are if you have not experienced it before. Places like elevators are dangerous. Accidents happen all the time, they are very sinister.”
“Alright alright. We’re here, let’s get out quickly.” A number of people in the elevator were already showing looks of displeasure because of what the old man had said. The young boy hurriedly pulled the old man towards the door. Fortunately, the elevator doors opened at the same moment.
Chen Yang noticed that it was also the floor that they were headed to, so he followed behind Du Shuo. They chose a restaurant and walked in. To their surprise, they met the grandfather and grandson duo again inside. It seemed like the grandfather wanted to continue to say something but the other impatiently got up and announced that he needed to use the restroom.
Chen Yang happened to be seated next to the old man at the waiting area and when he saw that the latter was showing a disappointed expression, he tried to start a conversation with him, “Sir, you were saying that the elevators are dangerous, why is that?”
The old man’s expression brightened up when someone was talking to him, “Accidents often happen with elevators, isn’t it evil?”
“That’s different. The cabin is a dead object that is being made to move. When an accident happens, it’s the place that is sinister. An elevator operates in a small confined space, the cabin moves up and down in one same shaft. When accidents happen, the lost spirits are trapped in the elevator, hence the elevator is a place of evil and it’s sinister.”
Chen Yang said, “The lost souls that are trapped in the elevator have no ability to harm living beings.” These were often considered accidental deaths. Even if they have really strong unfulfilled wishes that bind them here in the human realm, they could only become lingering ghosts that do not possess enough power to harm humans.
The old man disagreed, “If you die miserably and the resentment is heavy, you will be capable of doing harm to the living. The elevator is such a small, enclosed place. If it really wanted to harm someone, the possibility of escape is near zero.” A few passers-by, consisting of the young and old, were attracted to their conversation and the old man got even more excited, “Just think about it, if you wanted to harm someone, you could simply do so by making the elevator malfunction. If the cabin suddenly crashes down, the person inside dies miserably and their resentment will be very strong. Or if the elevator does not crash but is stopped mid-air, the emergency alarm is destroyed. You’re trapped and your cries for help reach nobody.”
A young man couldn’t help but retorted, “All these things you’re saying are accidents that only happen occasionally, how does that make it evil? Accidents with elevators are normal, just like car accidents. But the way you said it, it is as if they are all supernatural events. Are you saying that all accidents in the world are caused by resentful spirits?”
The old man’s eyes widened, “It is true! Do you know the high-end apartment complex across the street?”
A woman in the crowd looked over at the direction of the said building and said, “I do. I live there.”
“On which floor?”
“Eleventh floor.”
The old man was surprised, “E-eleventh floor? Did you just move in recently?”
“Yes…what’s wrong?” The office-worker woman was puzzled. The old man’s expression gave her the creeps.
“The elevators in that apartment used to be private, those elevators where it opens directly into the house of that floor. Once, a woman accidentally pressed the wrong floor and walked out of the elevator just to find herself facing a security door that was installed by the house owner. And that family just happened to be away on a trip. The woman was trapped in the gap between the security door and the elevator door for five days. She starved to death. When the family returned and the elevator doors opened, a decaying female corpse fell into the elevator, almost scaring them to death.”
Actually it was common that everyone was more or less afraid of elevators, not only because the passengers inside would be crushed into meat pie if the cabin crashed, it was also because if the elevator doors malfunction one would be trapped in a small closed container. In addition, if the signal inside the elevator got cut off…the combination of loneliness, fear and despair would really drive one crazy.
The old man said that the woman was trapped in the small gap between the security and elevator door.2https://pic3.zhimg.com/80/v2-9e1b1404b5fc66b2e7ac2235f333dafa_720w.jpg
