Chapter 63: Extra 1-6: Quick Stickies

Countless crystal particles tumbled on the dining table, forming a small, shiny storm. Lin Nuo’s initial reaction was to stand up and check if Rennes had cut his fingers. Unexpectedly, as soon as he got up from his seat, he heard Rennes whisper, “Don’t come over.”

The voice was ominous, something Lin Nuo had never heard before. Rennes’s complexion had turned an abnormal pale. The attendants around them also had their expressions changed, and even a few attendants’ legs were trembling.

What could this be…?

Rennes slowly stood up and said to Lin Nuo, “Sorry, I’m not feeling well, you should go back to your room and rest.”

After saying that, Rennes left the dining table.

The steward immediately followed, hastily instructing others, “Quick, call the physician!”

Call the physician? Could it be that Rennes… is sick? Lin Nuo stood still, feeling suddenly uneasy.

In Rennes’ room, “Your Highness,” the court physician with golden-rimmed glasses shook a vial in his hand and said discontentedly, “Your Highness, have you still not made up your mind to consume that purebred human as medicine?”

This physician had been attending to Rennes since the beginning and held an extraordinary position in the court. Because of this, the physician dared to speak what others didn’t dare to.

Rennes furrowed his brow, saying, “Not in a hurry.”

“Your Highness…” the physician’s voice was full of worry, “Have you counted how many times you’ve consumed this forcibly-suppressing magic potion recently?”

Without a word, Rennes took the prepared potion from the physician’s hand and silently drank it. The potion was extremely bitter, a concoction of rare ingredients emitting a muddy scent from who knows where. If it weren’t for treating his illness, Rennes wouldn’t touch this stuff.

Ever since he ascended, he had a terrible ailment: his magic would go out of control with emotional fluctuations, accidentally causing severe injuries to those around him. To avoid magic outbursts as much as possible, Rennes had to maintain a “cold body and mind” year-round, controlling his emotions like a tranquil winter lake. His cloak, mask, gloves – everything aimed to minimize contact with the outside world, creating a barrier free from distractions.

If something accidentally upset him, disturbing his emotions, he had to drink a specially concocted medicine by the court physician to suppress the turmoil of magic within him. But recently, the efficacy of this medicine had been deteriorating. For instance, despite having consumed the medicine a while ago, the crystal glassware on the table was still trembling slightly.

Crystal objects were the most sensitive to magic changes. Therefore, when his mood sank just now, the glass exploded. Fortunately, the shards didn’t injure Lin Nuo.

Lin Nuo… The moment he thought of this black-haired, black-eyed human provisional knight, Rennes’ heart began to act up.

Seeing Rennes’ expression and the shattered glassware, the physician cautiously said, “Your Highness…I’ve heard that today’s accidental loss of control might be related to that purebred human?”

Rennes leaned back, tiredly resting his head on the sofa, closing his eyes. “He has a name, his name is Lin Nuo.”

The physician’s eyes shifted and he slowly said, “If Your Highness truly can’t bear to part with Lord Lin Nuo, and if Lord Lin Nuo truly has such an effect on you…”

Rennes said coldly, “There’s no ‘can’t bear to part’ or ‘such an effect.'”

In his mind, the physician thought: Everyone in the court, apart from yourself, knows of your special treatment of this human. Squeezing out time to accompany this human, chatting, finding various excuses to eat together, teaching him horse riding, taking him on leisurely walks, and even forcibly coming up with lame excuses to hug him every day. If he weren’t human but a creature, even the most inconspicuous sparrow spirit, you probably would have proposed!

Unfortunately, the Supreme God sent this human, a male who cannot sire offspring, and destined him to be unfit for being used as your medicine. Of course, despite the physician’s “extraordinary status,” he dared not say such things aloud. Thus, he forced a wry smile and said, “Let’s say, if you, if you don’t dislike Lord Lin Nuo so much…I’ve been observing Your Highness’s condition recently and found… although Lord Lin Nuo causes emotional fluctuations in Your Highness, if he’s constantly by your side, it actually helps stabilize your emotions. Therefore, I delved into ancient texts and finally found a very bold, perhaps discomforting method that might cure your illness. With this method, you can avoid consuming Lord Lin Nuo as medicine and still cure your illness.”

Rennes opened his eyes, but his posture remained unchanged, asking in a deep voice, “What method?”

The physician lowered his head, speaking cautiously, “You can… sleep with him.”

At this, Rennes sat up straight on the sofa. He furrowed his brow tightly, staring at the physician, yet remained silent.

The physician, without lifting his head, continued earnestly, “Of course, for the esteemed Dragon race, engaging in such an act with another race might make you uncomfortable. So, maybe you could consider a more conventional approach…”

But Rennes interrupted him, “Will this method truly work?”

“Absolutely,” the physician asserted unequivocally, “And considering your current condition, the sooner, the better.”

Rennes pursed his lips, refraining from an immediate response.

The physician lifted his eyes, observing the Crown Prince’s expression above his spectacles and cautiously added, “If Your Highness is concerned about the human’s physical endurance, I can prepare various convenient aids…”

“Enough, no need to discuss these details,” Rennes stood up.

The physician’s gaze shifted from the Crown Prince’s face to the crystal vessels on the table. Indeed, these crystal vessels were trembling faster, as if they might rupture at any moment. And this was just the effect of the medication he had taken. If he hadn’t taken it, this suggestion alone could have caused the Crown Prince’s magic to spiral out of control.

“So, Your Highness… will you consider my proposal?” the physician asked hopefully.

Rennes rubbed his brow and said, “You may leave.”

As the physician approached the door, Rennes added, “I don’t want anyone else to know about this proposal, understood?”

The physician quickly bowed again, “Your Highness, your discretion is understood.”

After waiting for a while in the reception room outside Rennes’ bedroom, Lin Nuo finally saw the physician emerging. Lin Nuo had encountered this physician several times; sometimes, late at night, he’d see him rushing with a medical kit.

“Doctor,” Lin Nuo stood up from the sofa, politely greeting him.

The physician also politely returned the greeting, wearing a friendly smile, “Lord Lin Nuo, are you worried about His Highness?”

Lin Nuo nodded, “Yes…I didn’t notice during dinner, but I only realized his condition when the glass shattered. His complexion was terrible. And come to think of it, since dinner began, his complexion seemed off…”

Different complexion and tone of speech, definitely not the same as before. Lin Nuo felt a bit guilty, silently reproaching himself for not noticing Rennes’ abnormality earlier.

“Oh, this is actually His Highness’s occasional ailment, which flares up in unique situations,” the physician gently smiled, “Lord, you need not worry too much.”

Listening to the physician, Lin Nuo became more concerned and hurriedly asked, “Ailment? What ailment does His Highness have? Is it related to his previous condition of feeling cold?”

The physician glanced around, approached Lin Nuo, and spoke in a lowered voice, “Lord, I see that His Highness trusts you greatly, that’s why I’m disclosing this to you. His Highness has a rare condition; when his mood is low, his body becomes cold. In severe cases, he even freezes stiff. Moreover, he can’t control the magic within him, causing minor explosions. Fortunately, he encountered you during this outing, Lord. Your body, Lord, is naturally warmer than others, and—more importantly—His Highness doesn’t easily feel low-spirited when he’s with you. You see, earlier, didn’t I recommend that you two hug each other every day to ease his illness?”

Lin Nuo vigorously nodded. Of course, in reality, this “recommendation” didn’t come from the physician. But Lin Nuo didn’t know that.

“So, “the physician pushed up his glasses, concealing his eyes sparkling with wisdom behind the lenses, “So, if you spend more time with him every day, ideally even sleeping together, allowing him to absorb some warmth, his condition could slowly improve.”

“Huh?” Lin Nuo was stunned. Can you cure an illness like this? A “snuggle therapy” for all ailments?

The physician sighed again and said, “He will have an episode today, probably because, after all, your time with the knight’s squad was a bit long, and there hasn’t been any embrace since your return. He’s inevitably feeling a bit low…”

Although the physician was stating a fact, Lin Nuo felt his cheeks warming up inexplicably. He scratched his head and whispered, “Oh, I see.”

So, Rennes missed hugs and wanted some warmth? Well, maybe it’s not a bad idea. After all, being embraced by him was quite comfortable.

Upon hearing Lin Nuo’s tone, the physician quickly followed up, “His Highness is worried that it would be too much of a burden for you, which is why he didn’t want me to mention this. After all, for our prince, Lord Lin Nuo, could you please spend more time by His Highness’s side? Especially on these long and cold nights…”

Lin Nuo clenched his fists, “Alright, don’t worry. I’ll stay with him today. I won’t let his emotions plunge into a state of magic out of control again.”

Rennes is such a good person, and it’s only right to help him within his capacity.

Relieved, the physician said, “Thank you, Lord Lin Nuo. I appreciate your understanding.”

Watching Lin Nuo directly heading to Rennes’ room, a smile appeared on the physician’s face: If he guessed correctly, once the Crown Prince heard his suggestion and saw this adorable youngster willingly offering himself, he probably wouldn’t continue to remain idle. In this way, when the situation intensifies, the Crown Prince’s emotions would inevitably erupt, leading to a complete loss of control over magic.

As the only Golden True Dragon, once the Crown Prince’s magic goes completely haywire, this little human wouldn’t be able to withstand it. If Lin Nuo were already a lifeless body by then, his only use would be as a medicinal ingredient.

Unfortunately, even though this young and cute lad genuinely cared for the Crown Prince, he happened to be a human, and, unfortunately, not a male of the rare Dragon race.

One could say this was the fate arranged by the Supreme God. Of course, after this incident, the Crown Prince would probably hate me, maybe even execute me directly. But well, that doesn’t matter. Other courtiers might not be aware of how terrifying this matter is, but as the personal physician, he understood very well. Since the Prince brought this human back to the palace, he had been struggling to maintain a “cold body and mind” to forcefully suppress the magic.

In the long run, the Prince’s body would explode like chestnuts roasting on a fire. For the continuity of the kingdom, for the future of the Dragon race, this was the only path.

Poor LN. Either as the Dragon, or the Knight, Rennes gets the better of him.
So he remembers nothing of the aphrodisiac filled night?
Thank you both for the chapter.
