Chapter 6: The Tail

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

After taking the medicine and having someone massage his tail, Ruan Yu slept soundly and comfortably.

The hot body warmed up the comforter.

The mattress seemed to turn into soft, warm spring water, and Ruan Yu sank comfortably into the water.

When he opened his eyes, the surface of the water swayed, and Ruan Yu subconsciously swam his tail, and suddenly felt that something was not right. He turned around to see that his tail had become short, fat and round, and his palm-sized fins were shaking.

He had not been defenseless against Gu Xiuhan for long.

Because of the many experiences of scaring and making Ruan Yu cry, Gu Xiuhan did not dare to approach him without permission.

That night, Gu Xiuhan was on the eve of a mental energy outbreak, his mental body was twisted beyond recognition and he had a splitting headache. He did not call Ruan Yu for spiritual healing, but locked himself in his room as usual to suffer in silence.

Sensing that Gu Xiuhan was in bad shape, little Ruan Yu fought to arch to the shore in order to appease his important kin and decided to go over by himself.

From the artificial lake to the main house was quite a distance, no one previously thought that there would be a need for this little fish baby who saw people while staying at the bottom of the lake to sneak around on shore, so no one thought to arrange a carrier for him. It was too late, and most of the servants had gone to bed, so little Ruan Yu had to “snap, snap, snap” and bounce his tail, moving towards the main house in a very inefficient manner, and before he could move more than a few meters, he was so tired that he collapsed on the cobblestone path, like a piece of sun-dried sticky cake.

Ruan Yu’s real memory was that a robot was passing by to deliver the medication for the outbreak of mental energy to the main house, and Ruan Yu stopped it and babbled at it in a few words of plastic imperial mixed with mermaid that he had overheard in the lake, asking it to send him upstairs to Gu Xiuhan. The AI was unable to understand Ruan Yu’s command and could only recognize the word “Gu Xiuhan”, and it stood there for half a day arithmetically, almost making an error, and finally, it picked up Ruan Yu and put him on a big tray, and sent him into Gu Xiuhan’s bedroom together with his medicine.

The little Ruan Yu thought this round of communication was a great success, on the big tray with his tail in the air, fin veils shaking loudly.

Only later did he learn that the artificial retard had probably identified him as a plate of fatty snacks because it had detected the fish tail…

This dream deviated from the real memory.

The little Ruan Yu in the dream did not wait for the drug delivery robot to appear.

He snapped along the cobblestone path with difficulty for a while, then suddenly his fish tail swung and somehow his vision suddenly drew up… Standing up like a human.

Ruan Yu looked down and saw two small fat legs with milk fat firmly pinned to the ground.

“Ee.”

Ruan Yu called out in novelty and tried to take steps like a human being, but the air was thick as glue and he had a hard time moving.

What’s going on…

Ruan Yu was in a hurry to get to Gu Xiuhan, and mustered up all his strength, trying desperately to reverse the two short legs.

In the bedroom.

A pair of feet were flopping around blindly under the covers.

The dream walk was too strenuous, Ruan Yu twisted and turned, earning a red face and grunting.

Worried about Ruan Yu’s temporary situation, Gu Xiuhan had already been on the sidelines for a few hours, using his terminal to handle a lot of military affairs.

After the war subsided, there was no need for spending several sleepless days and nights fighting and killing alien species. Once he was free, Gu Xiuhan only needed to cooperate with the media to make occasional appearances, maintain the image of the awe-inspiring protector and give the public a sense of security.

It was all a no-brainer propaganda job, so in order not to be idle, Gu Xiuhan simply took over some of the matters that could have been left to his subordinates.

Unfortunately, even the most tedious official documents were difficult to kill the sprawling thoughts.

“Mnh…”

Ruan Yu let out another mucousy dreamy sound.

“…”

Gu Xiuhan, who had been restless for a while, finally lost the strength in his hand and nearly shattered the light screen.

He took a deep breath, tilted his face at a reserved angle, and swept towards Ruan Yu with a half-hearted look.

On the bed, the quilt floated shallowly in lines different from the fish tail, as if he had finished differentiating.

The newly differentiated lower limbs were not strong enough, Ruan Yu stirred for half a day but did not succeed in stirring open the quilt, still wrapped tightly, only a few centimeters from the edge of the quilt leaked out the tip of the foot, pink and white, the color of lotus petals.

Gu Xiuhan suddenly averted his eyes and walked closer, saying in a deep voice, “Ruan Ruan, wake up.”

Ruan Yu, who was struggling with the edge of reality and dream, woke up with a jolt.

There was a strange feeling of touch in the place where the fish tail was.

The newborn delicate skin, which was so delicate that it was almost fragile, brushed lightly against the cotton fabric and tickled.

“My tail…”

Ruan Yu rubbed his eyes and sat up, knowing that Gu Xiuhan was standing aside, still unsuspectingly lifted the quilt to check.

The shining white, so tender that even the knees were haloed with light pink, lightly sunk in the dark gray fabric.

Ruan Yu drew a breath and raised his hand to pull Gu Xiuhan, “I have succeeded in differentiating! Look!”

The mermaid would twist its tail in excitement, but the structure had already changed, so Ruan Yu only hooked the tip of his foot.

“… Hmm.” Gu Xiuhan’s eyes were scratched and dodged, suddenly turning his body and striding away, saying in a muffled voice, “I’ll go get some clothes.”

According to common sense, there was little point in mermaids splitting their legs.

Before the mermaid extinction, technology remained at the level of the idyllic pastoral, little written information remained, only some of the events codified in stone chronicles, oral transmission was too easy to discontinue through generations, so the development to date, not even the mermaids were sure what the meaning of the differentiation period was.

The Imperial research institute of mermaid research scholars did put forward some speculation, which was more mainstream was “land ability and xg maturity together because mermaids once had the habit of intermarriage with a land creature, at a certain period in the evolutionary process they need to go ashore to find a mate “.

[To find a mate…]

Gu Xiuhan’s eyes dimmed.

[Who would it be?]

The spiritual body that was blazing was poured with cold water by this thought, darkening to an almost gloomy level.

During this period of time, Gu Xiuhan customized many clothes for Ruan Yu one after another, all of which were placed in Ruan Yu’s bedroom.

Shirts, pants, socks… He took a few of each and piled them up by the bed for Ruan Yu to choose from, and walked outside the door to wait for him.

He waited for Ruan Yu to put them on, but there was a muffled thud from inside the room.

In the bedroom, Ruan Yu was kneeling with his hands on the carpet, his white shirt unbuttoned, the loose hem creating a gray shadow, just enough to cover the parts that should be covered, the pants at the ankles were piled into a messy, sloppy heap.

“Brother Xiuhan, I can’t stand,” Ruan Yu was afraid that Gu Xiuhan secretly disliked his stupidity, glancing at Gu Xiuhan’s inexplicably gloomy face, explained in a whisper, “My legs and feet don’t have much strength…”

The silver hair that was messed up by the pillow was still sticking out in different directions.

Like a kitten that had been spoiled for years but was suddenly rejected by its nurturer, the bewildered but obedient attempt at independence resulted in a nose bump when it started. Knowing that he was too stupid to blame himself for such a simple task, he endured the pain even though it was too simple to be blamed on others.

The muscle and bone structure had already changed drastically, still using the fishtail method of power, it was normal to not be able to maintain balance.

Gu Xiuhan was silent for a moment, went over and grabbed Ruan Yu under his ribs with both arms, held him up like a cat and let him sit on the edge of the bed.

Ruan Yu bumped on the thickly padded carpet, the porcelain white kneecap immediately blotted with red.

Gu Xiuhan wanted to remain silent, but when his pants were lifted to his knee, he asked, “Does it hurt?”

Ruan Yu gave an honest “mmm”, probably because he was holding back the pain, there was a thin nasal sound.

Gu Xiuhan’s fingers stiffened, but he rubbed Ruan Yu’s knee perfunctorily through his pants.

I shouldn’t have asked.

“Let me support you to stand up.” Gu Xiuhan said.

Ruan Yu complied and stood up straight holding his shoulders and let him help lift his pants.

The back of his fingers inevitably brushed the side of his leg as he pulled his pants up, and the new skin, watery and tofu-like, was slippery.

In order to extinguish the fire that should not be lit, Gu Xiuhan had to repeatedly pour cold water on himself.

Ruan Yu was still too young.

The little mermaid, who had just differentiated and matured, knew almost nothing and should not have been thought of by him in this way.

In addition, for more than a decade, Ruan Yu had always been considered by Gu Xiuhan as the younger brother, and it was impossible to say from which day…

A subtle sense of paradox stabbed Gu Xiuhan’s heart with a vague pain.

The air pressure in Gu Xiuhan’s body was getting lower and lower, and Ruan Yu was a bit panicked, not daring to wait for Gu Xiuhan to serve him, so he bowed his head and tied his shirt buttons not too sharply, while saying, “I can learn this soon… Really.”

Gu Xiuhan’s heart was so soft and sore that he quietly whispered, “Take your time, I don’t think you’re stupid.”

After waiting for Ruan Yu to put on his clothes, shoes and socks, Gu Xiuhan ordered the AI butler to send a custom-made toddler robot, otherwise it was obvious that Ruan Yu would not be able to walk.

These toddler robots were mostly used by human toddlers to assist with walking and correcting poor posture, but they could also be adjusted in height to meet the needs of customers of different races.

The toddler robots, the new thick carpeting up and down the main house, and the additional soft wrapping around the edges of the furniture… All these were arranged by Gu Xiuhan and Shen Jingya during this time, in order to facilitate Ruan Yu’s learning to walk bipedally.

The success of Ruan Yu’s differentiation was a big event. Gu Xiuhan summoned the robot and used the terminal to inform his mother, Shen Jingya, and father, Marshal Gu Rong.

He only told two people, but the good news couldn’t be hidden. In a few minutes, everyone up and down the manor, anyone with access to the main residence, flocked to the second floor to see Ruan Yu on some pretext.

Although the main house had been made highly intelligent, some trivial matters could not be done without people, the servants who were responsible for the daily food and living in the house liked Ruan Yu very much. The team of technicians responsible for maintenance of mechanical devices and artificial intelligence, which usually do not have a presence, went up to debug the brand-new toddler robot, twisting it twice here and tightening it there, so rigorous that it was unnecessary.

“… How does Ruan Ruan feel now? Does anything else feel uncomfortable?” Shen Jingya happily took Ruan Yu’s arm, assisted him to get up, and looked Ruan Yu up and down, “Xiuhan picked out these clothes for you to wear, right”

“I’m not uncomfortable,” Ruan Yu bent down and pulled his pants, whispering, “but there is a little bit strange…”

“It’s good to get used to it.” Shen Jingya gently gestured to Ruan Yu to hold the grip of the toddler robot, “You try it, can you walk with its assistance.”

Ruan Yu stepped on the slippers and moved a few steps following the cue very freshly, walking awkwardly, but with the robot protecting him, at least he didn’t worry about falling.

In the corridor, the maids and technicians working at the Gu Family estate took one look at Ruan Yu and didn’t want to leave, but continued to watch him learn to walk.

After all, there was no excuse to stare at Ruan Yu so closely.

Mermaid royalty’s spiritual healing ability was too strong, and even if Ruan Yu did not do anything, just stay quiet, he could naturally transmit a kind of EEG signal that could make the surrounding organisms immersed in joy and tranquility, the lower the organism’s genetic level, the more obvious the impact.

When Ruan Yu was young, there was a joke at the manor – a new gardener, not very old and with a mediocre genetic rating of D. He was hired to take care of the alien plants in the flower house for Shen Jingya, and was responsible for directing several gardening robots. As a result, more than half a month passed, the precious alien plants in the flower room became more and more wilted, and several gardening robots left a bunch of work undone, wandering around the flower room all day with nothing to do. Then someone found this gardener spending every day all the way across the artificial lake as if his feet were rooted there, compelled to sit at the edge of the lake with his hands on his cheeks, his eyes lovingly and enchantedly looking at the lake and a pet fish playing with little Ruan Yu, watching most of the day.

Little Ruan Yu had a soft temper and could sense the gardener’s friendly and fond emotions, so he did not shoo the person, did not complain, and swam to the lake to imitate each other’s appearance, elbows on the shore stones, holding up small fleshy hands, smiling. He and the gardener looked at each other with their cheeks, indirectly encouraging each other to neglect their work and watch each other.

After a few rounds of similar incidents, the area of the artificial lake where Ruan Yu spent his daily activities was set up by the housekeeper, so that not just anyone could enter – the efficiency of the maids was secondary, but the key was that the compulsive love of losing one’s mind could cause harm to the little mermaid who lacked the ability to defend himself.

Therefore, the only people who had much contact with Ruan Yu on a daily basis were the three members of the Gu family, in addition to a few carefully selected tutors.

Ruan Yu walked around the corridor slowly, holding his walker.

The maids looked at Ruan Yu from close range, and their heart tips were like a kitten stepping around shallowly with a flesh pad, so soft.

They were not like Gu Xiuhan who had SSS level genes and a spiritual barrier, the EEG signals were so clear that Ruan Yu wanted to not listen to them, they were flurrying and snowy and dense.

[The little mermaid without a tail is also cute.]

[Oooooooo cute heart melted, but it’s a pity that photography is not allowed in the manor.]

[Even though he’s learning to walk, why does his little face look so strong? I want to pinch the soft, bulging flesh of his face… Wait, I heard that mermaids can read minds.]

A mermaid’s normal living environment was actually such that they could hear what the surrounding organisms were thinking, but Ruan Yu usually rarely concentrated on hearing the heart sounds of so many people. He was completely unable to adapt, so he hurriedly managed his expression and relaxed his facial muscles to keep his face from following the strain.

Wisps of hot air steamed out of the tips of his ears.

The height of this toddler robot was adjusted to a range suitable for adults, but the built-in language system did not change, Ruan Yu successfully walked in a circle, and the robot milked out a sentence, “This child is doing very well.”

Ruan Yu received the childish praise, his ears slowly reddened, but because this kind of shyness itself seems to be very childish, so he squirmed twice, his head lowered almost to his chest.

Once he was embarrassed, the density of heart sounds around him immediately soared to a new peak.

Ruan Yu could not stand it any longer, so he whispered to the others, saying that if they were busy with work, they did not have to accompany him. He’s shy.

Gu Xiuhan’s lips held a very faint smile, then said in a light voice, “Everyone disperse.”
