Demon Beast Glossary

While demon beasts are not a main topic within volume 1 of The Legendary Master’s Wife, they do become more commonplace within volume 2 and even more so within volume 3. Any of the following will be a spoiler for those who have not read beyond volume 1, please be advised of this and take caution when reading.

About Demon Beasts

Demon beasts are beasts with power on par with practitioners that can be controlled with soul power of an alchemist. These demon beasts help protect alchemists since most do not have the power to protect themselves.

Named Demon Beasts

Blue-blooded wolf: An eighth-rank demon beasts when they reach adulthood, as powerful as a spiritual stage practitioner. They are known for their mighty strength and lightning-fast reflexes with coats of the purest silver, deceptively soft given their ferocious nature. They are pack animals, and since there are fewer female wolves, their birth rate is pretty low.

Infernal horse: Horse from Doomsday Forest known for their fiery temper, They are hard to train unless they are overpowered by a high ranking practitioner.

Golden-winged insect: A golden insect nearly the size of a fist, able to become invisible. They are the molted version of the Pleiades stink bug. Spins out golden threads that can be weaved into a protective vest immune to all elements and attacks.

Lupine god: An eleventh/twelfth rank demon beast. They are the pure, evolved form of the blue-blooded wolf. Once a blue-blooded wolf reaches this level, they have the ability to assume human form.

Ninth hell silkworm: A rank eleventh-ranked demon beast that only spins silk once every five hundred years. It can be used to make armor that’s indestructible.

Obsidian vajra panther: A seventh-ranked demon beast.

Pleiades stink bug: A sixth-ranked demon beast. A snow-white insect nearly the size of a fist, able to become invisible. They usually come in pairs, male and female. The females give off a special scent that only the males can pick up. After molting, it evolves into a golden-winged bug. Not all Pleiades stink bugs can successfully molt. If they eat Pleiades herbs, they are guaranteed to molt.

Thundercloud leopard: Sixth-ranked demon beast. Its claws can pierce a lunar stage practitioner and its silver pelt can withstand the full force of a solar stage practitioner’s attack.

Void: Beyond the known universe lies a realm of emptiness, inhabited by a peculiar race of beings called ‘voids’. When practitioners swear an oath, voids pierce through their realm, burrow into the oath-taker’s body, and bind themselves to the oath-taker’s soul. If the oath-taker breaks their oath, the void will insert itself into the oath-taker’s soul. Like a parasitic inner demon, it will not rest until the oath-taker dies.
