We dove into the vibrant energy of Shibuya on Friday.

Our first stop was the Hie Shrine about 12 minutes away from the main bustling area of Shibuya. We saw a beautiful lines red tori gate path and some old buildings. Then we navigated through the iconic Shibuya Scramble Crossing, where the sea of people flowed like a river. We paid homage to Hachiko, the faithful dog whose statue stands as a symbol of loyalty amidst the urban chaos. I was stopped by an idol group and talked to them for a while in Japanese. (I still haven’t looked them up even though they gave me their Youtube.)

We stopped by Tokyu Foodshow for some lunch. I had a delicious curry bun and ogled the food that I couldn’t eat. My sister and I spotted at $75 watermelon, a $80 mango and a $40 half pineapple. No trip to Shibuya is complete without a visit to MEGA Don Quijote, a treasure trove of eclectic goods and souvenirs. We browse through aisles filled with everything from quirky gadgets to traditional Japanese snacks, reveling in the excitement of the bustling megastore.

As the day draws to a close, we headed to Shibuya Sky for our 6:20 pm booking. Perched atop the Shibuya Scramble Square skyscraper, this 360° open-air observation deck offers panoramic views of the city skyline, bathed in the soft glow of twilight. We watch in awe as the city transforms beneath the hues of the setting sun, a perfect finale to our day.
