Chapter 20: Rich People Life

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Li Sinian directly voiced his doubts.

[Li Sinian: As far as I know, your company never bothers with celebrity endorsements. Why would you want to cooperate with someone like me?]

Minghui’s response was also quite amusing.

[Minghui Kitchenware: It’s true we usually don’t hire influencers or celebrities, but clearly, you’re not just any influencer.]

Li Sinian, “…”

Was Minghui really this humorous?

But to be fair, the staff at Minghui’s marketing department were much more emotionally intelligent than Songyuan’s people. It was probably true that a company hired employees of a similar caliber to their own. The people at Songyuan were just like their boss—immoral and inept at communication.

Li Sinian agreed to cooperate with Minghui, not just because their people were polite, but also because they offered a better price. Most importantly, Li Sinian had used Minghui’s products before and had a great experience. He felt good recommending a brand that he personally trusted to his fans.

Unlike Songyuan, who produced nothing but junk food and had the audacity to market it as healthy.

Minghui sent over the electronic contract, and both parties discussed the details. After confirming there were no issues, the cooperation was finalized.

After finalizing the contract with Minghui, Songyuan Foods sent another message, urging him to reconsider.

This time, it wasn’t a marketing department employee messaging him on C-Platform, but directly Lin Yuan on WeChat.

[Lin Yuan: A’Nian, even though Wenxing and I are together now, we’re still friends. Please don’t refuse my help.]

Li Sinian opened the WeChat message. The most recent conversation showed the last chat was from six months ago.

It was the time when Lin Yuan drunkenly confessed that he liked Li Wenxing. After that, they hadn’t spoken since.

If this had been his past self, he would have only felt sad and pitiful.

He had known Lin Yuan for seven years, and it had taken that long for Lin Yuan to admit he might be willing to try something with him. Yet, after meeting Li Wenxing just once, Lin Yuan had directed all his attention toward him.

But now, reading Lin Yuan’s words, he only felt grateful toward Li Wenxing.

Without Li Wenxing, he would never have noticed how Lin Yuan’s every word was filled with arrogance and a sense of superiority—slimy and self-important.

Li Sinian didn’t reply. Lin Yuan sent another message.

[Lin Yuan: Wenxing is also very worried about you. After watching your livestream, he cried. He couldn’t believe that his proud and excellent older brother was doing this kind of work.]

[Lin Yuan: A’Nian, we know you have your pride and persistence, but we just want you to live better. We don’t have any ill intentions. This cooperation is our gesture, please accept it.]

Li Sinian laughed. He had said it before—Songyuan’s staff were just like Lin Yuan.

Wanting to help him live better? What made them think he needed help?

[Li Sinian: Thanks for your concern, but I’m doing just fine and don’t need any help.]

[Lin Yuan: Don’t say things out of frustration. You’ve fallen so low that you’re livestreaming with an influencer. Why are you still so stubborn?]

[Lin Yuan: Or is it because we chose to work with that pig influencer before that you’re upset? I didn’t know about it until I saw your livestream. If I had known earlier, I would have chosen to work with you first.]

[Li Sinian: I’m not upset. I’m really doing great. I just signed a contract with a company, and their offer is higher than yours. It’s even comparable to what third- or fourth-tier celebrities get, so I really don’t need your help.]

[Lin Yuan: No way. They’re offering a celebrity price to an influencer? Which company? Don’t let yourself get scammed.]

[Li Sinian: Minghui Kitchenware.]

Then, Lin Yuan stopped replying.

Li Sinian gently shook his head at the phone screen.

See? Some people always think they’re the savior, but in reality…?

Lin Yuan showed the chat history with Li Sinian to Li Wenxing. After reading it, instead of feeling relieved, Li Wenxing became even more worried.

“Minghui Kitchenware? How could that be? Even someone like me, who’s never been involved in business, knows that Minghui never works with endorsers. They wouldn’t even consider top-tier stars. Why would they work with a small influencer like this?”

Lin Yuan shook his head. “I don’t know either. A’Nian said so, but it definitely sounds suspicious.”

Li Wenxing suddenly gasped, his eyes wide as he stared at Lin Yuan. “Could it be that my brother is just sick of us, so he made up this excuse to avoid us?”

His eyes turned red as he spoke. “Why is he so stubborn? Why…?”

Seeing Li Wenxing like this, Lin Yuan’s heart tightened painfully.

He had lovingly pulled Li Wenxing into his arms, softly comforting him, “It’s okay, A’Nian is just like that. You’ve lived with him for over twenty years, don’t you know him by now? He’s acting like this because he’s not truly suffering yet. If he were really struggling, he would come to us on his own.”

Li Wenxing tilted his head up to look at him. “But…”

“Enough with the ‘buts’,” Lin Yuan interrupted. “A’Nian doesn’t want our help right now. Our good intentions would only annoy him. We’ll help him when he comes to us.”

Li Wenxing bit his lip, feeling a little disheartened. “Okay, but… can we try just one last time? Could you send a message to my brother again? If it still doesn’t work, then we won’t bother anymore.”

Lin Yuan sighed. In the end, he couldn’t bring himself to argue with Li Wenxing. He reluctantly agreed, picking up his phone to send another message to Li Sinian.

Then, a big red exclamation mark appeared on the screen.

[LSN has enabled friend verification. You are not yet their friend. Please, send a friend request first. After they verify, you can chat.]

Lin Yuan, “…”

Li Wenxing, “…”

The much-pitied Li Sinian had gone to a nearby print shop to print the contract, signed it, and then mailed it to Minghui Kitchenware.

After sending the parcel, Li Sinian went to the restaurant.

When he arrived, he saw a large lump squatting at the entrance of his shop, looking somewhat suspicious.

From a distance, he thought it was some kind of criminal, but as he got closer, he realized it was the man who had visited before—Ma Chi.

Li Sinian approached him and lightly tapped his shoe. “Hello?”

Ma Chi looked up, his face lighting up when he saw him. “Wow! You’re opening the shop so early today? I thought I’d have to wait another three to five days!”

Li Sinian scratched his face awkwardly. It was really… only someone like him could open a restaurant this way.

Li Sinian took out his keys and unlocked the door. Ma Chi followed him in, and Li Sinian looked outside again. “Is it just you today?”

Ma Chi nodded. “Yeah, Rongxuan is busy today. I’ve been craving your food, so I came over to have a solo meal. Hehe.”

“Rongxuan…” Li Sinian repeated the name. “So, his name is Jiang Rongxuan?”

“Yeah.”

Li Sinian nodded, understanding. So, the first person to support his business was named Jiang Rongxuan.

Li Sinian handed the menu to Ma Chi. “Take a look and see what you’d like.”

Ma Chi casually pointed to two dishes that looked appetizing. When Li Sinian brought the dishes over and was about to leave, Ma Chi didn’t let him go.

Li Sinian was pulled back, a hint of helplessness in his eyes. “Are you planning to talk to me again about collaborating to open a chain of restaurants? Or can we forget it? I really have no intention of doing that.”

“Oh, come on, don’t be so quick to refuse. Come sit with me,” Ma Chi insisted, pulling Li Sinian to sit next to him. “You see, I’ve already come to your place… twice. Don’t be so cold, let’s chat and build some rapport.”

Li Sinian raised an eyebrow. “You’re the customer, I’m the chef. What kind of rapport are we supposed to build?”

Ma Chi made a serious face. “You need to communicate more with the customer to make food that satisfies them.”

“Alright, alright…” Li Sinian nodded reluctantly. “What do you want to talk about?”

“Well, I want to know more about you,” Ma Chi said, taking a big bite of food and speaking with his mouth full. “What do your parents do? Have you lived in Suzhou your whole life?”

Li Sinian replied, “My family runs a small business. My grandmother used to live in Suzhou. I only moved here after I graduated from college.”

“Oh…” Ma Chi asked, “How big is your family business?”

Li Sinian thought for a moment. He didn’t want to get too involved with his past, so he lied, saying, “It’s about the same scale as the business I’m running now.”

As soon as he said that, he remembered that he had been live-streaming with Bai Yusheng earlier.

Would his lie be discovered?

But Li Sinian’s worry lasted only a second because Ma Chi laughed. “This is called a business? I thought you were running a big company!”

Li Sinian relaxed. It seemed that Ma Chi didn’t often visit C-Platform.

Ma Chi asked again, “What was your major in college?”

“Finance.”

“Eh, you actually studied finance? I studied finance, too,” Ma Chi said.

Li Sinian responded with a simple “Hmm.”

After asking for basic information, Ma Chi didn’t know what else to say. Li Sinian wasn’t really interested in talking with him, so he stayed quiet, and the atmosphere grew awkward.

After a while, seeing that Ma Chi had finished a whole plate of food, Li Sinian asked, “Is there anything else you’d like to talk about?”

“Yes, yes, yes!” Ma Chi looked up. “What do you usually like to do for fun?”

“Fun?” Li Sinian asked.

“Like, what kinds of entertainment do you enjoy?”

Li Sinian thought for a moment. When he was young, he was busy studying, and as he grew older, he was occupied with taking over the family business. He realized he’d never really had time for entertainment.

So, he shook his head and said, “I don’t really engage in much entertainment.”

He thought about it some more, and added, “Well, if I had to say, I enjoy gardening. I find it pretty fun.”

Upon hearing that, Ma Chi’s gaze instantly became sympathetic as he looked at Li Sinian.

Look at this poor little boss, with no entertainment in his life—just gardening. No wonder he had turned down the offer to collaborate on opening a chain of restaurants. It must be because he’d never lived a good life. If he could let the little boss experience a wealthy lifestyle, he was sure he’d be unable to refuse!

Ma Chi quickly finished the rest of his meal and then pulled out his phone, scrolling through photos from past trips abroad with his friends.

“Actually, life isn’t just about gardening. There’s also poetry and distant places. I have a few pictures from my travels saved on my phone. Want to take a look?”

Li Sinian didn’t understand what he was trying to do, but he didn’t need to figure it out, because Ma Chi had already thrust his phone toward him.

He pointed to the screen and said, “Look here, this is St. Petersburg, it’s really magnificent! And this one, Venice, you can’t truly understand how romantic a water city is until you experience it yourself. And here, Provence—one of my buddies proposed to his partner here, it was super romantic!”

Li Sinian watched as Ma Chi flipped through one city after another on his phone, all places Ma Chi had visited with overseas clients, and some were cities his family had gone to for New Year’s a few years ago.

After showing a handful of photos, Ma Chi started to offer today’s motivational speech.

“You see, poetry and distant places are so much more romantic than gardening, right? If you collaborate with me to open a chain, you’ll have money, and once you have money, you’ll be able to experience poetry and distant places yourself!”

Li Sinian kept his eyes lowered, still looking at Ma Chi’s phone.

Ma Chi thought he was moved, so he swiped on his phone again and handed it over, “Do you want to see more?”

Li Sinian asked, “Can I swipe forward?”

“Sure.”

Li Sinian found the photo of St. Petersburg, pointed at it, and asked, “This… did you get it wrong? This isn’t St. Petersburg, it’s London.”

Ma Chi, “…”

Ma Chi zoomed in on the photo, carefully examining the architecture, and it seemed… he was right?

Stupid Ma Chi. 🤣

I love how this story shows that not everyone’s idea of success is the same.
Happiness cannot be bought, but at the same time, true poverty is miserable.
However, if a simple life is loved, who’s to say that’s wrong, or shouldn’t be enough?
The arrogance that many wealthy people have shows a lack of class, humility and dignity. Money does not raise low people higher, nor does it make stupid people clever; quite the opposite.
Thank you both for the chapter.
