Chapter 4: See You Tomorrow

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

Duan Yizhou 1thought of himself as having mentored many young research students over the years and being surrounded by young people of his age, but he still found himself taken aback by the straightforwardness of the kid in front of him.

Luo Songran noticed that the man in front of him seemed somewhat resigned after his words, and he also felt that it might not be appropriate to say such things to someone he was meeting for the first time. It was all because he had acted on impulse.

So he clasped his hands apologetically, his gaze sincere as he looked at Duan Yizhou, “Professor Duan, please don’t mind. I tend to speak straightforwardly, but one can’t resist matters and objects of beauty.”

Implicit in his words was the notion that it was all because of how good-looking Duan Yizhou was.

Duan Yizhou thought this kid was a bit mischievous, even blaming it on him. If it were someone else, they would deserve criticism. He adjusted his glasses, picked up his tablet from the side, and stood up, saying, “My work here is done, I must leave.”

Seeing Duan Yizhou about to leave, Luo Songran hurriedly stood up as well, grabbing his arm, “Hey, wait—”

Before Luo Songran could finish, he suddenly froze. His gaze only reached the man’s shoulders?

Luo Songran slowly lifted his head and then realized that this man was absurdly tall, almost a head taller than him. He felt a kind of indescribable frustration for a moment, opening his mouth as if to say something but stopping himself.

“Do you need me to escort you back?” Duan Yizhou lowered his gaze, looking at this kid who barely reached his shoulder.

Luo Songran thought to himself that he didn’t really like alphas that tall, but, well, this man was handsome. He adjusted his inner turmoil and put on a bright smile, “Sir Duan, you being so tall makes one feel safe.”

Being called “sir” again made Duan Yizhou’s mood subtly awkward. “Is that so? I often hit my head on doors; I think I’m quite dangerous.”

Luo Songran couldn’t help but laugh. He didn’t actually find what the man said that funny, but he just felt that this man was quite humorous, inexplicably getting along with him a bit.

Duan Yizhou, seeing the kid in front of him suddenly laughing so beautifully, couldn’t quite figure out what was going on in the mind of today’s youth for a moment. Just then, he felt his watch vibrating.

Raising his hand to check his monitoring watch, he saw that the heartbeat icon was beating even faster than before. This kid’s heart rate had already reached 110 beats per minute.

“Sir Duan, can we meet again?”

This “sir” made Duan Yizhou’s mood subtly complicated. Duan Yizhou diverted his gaze from the data on his watch, which happened to meet Luo Songran’s hopeful eyes. Those shallow amber eyes seemed particularly clear in the dim corner, just like his face, giving off an innocent feeling.

Since childhood, Luo Songran knew that he had to take the initiative for what he wanted because opportunities were only in the hands of those who were proactive and prepared. What he wanted, he had to pursue actively. His greatest skill was to judge someone’s temperament, then play a role that matched their preferences, catering to them.

“Professor Duan, do you know the Yancheng Library next to Yan University?”

“Yes.”

“I’m a sophomore in the violin department of Yan University’s School of Music. I love going to the library in my spare time. Recently, I’m considering minoring in biomedical science. Does Professor Duan have time tomorrow, Saturday, to discuss a few questions with me?”

Luo Songran thought, teachers must like students who are eager to learn and obedient, so he would play to that. It didn’t matter if he actually intended to minor in it or not, pursuing someone required sincerity in attitude and process.

Isn’t it just studying? As long as he could win this man over, nothing else mattered.

Duan Yizhou looked at the kid in front of him, his tone serious, his gaze sincere. If it weren’t for the fact that the positioning data of his chip had been showing him at a bar these past few days, he might have almost believed him.

“I have time.”

Luo Songran’s eyes lit up, immediately taking out his phone and handing it to Duan Yizhou, “Let’s exchange contact information. When are you free tomorrow?”

Duan Yizhou took Luo Songran’s phone, entered his personal number, added a note ‘Duan’ and handed it back, “You decide.”

Luo Songran took back his phone, dialed the number, and the other person’s phone vibrated. He smiled and raised his phone, “Professor Duan, see you tomorrow then.”

“See you tomorrow.”

“Wait!” Luo Songran suddenly called out to Duan Yizhou, taking a lollipop out of his pocket and putting it in his hand, smiling, “Have some candy.”

Duan Yizhou looked down at the lollipop in his hand, slightly warm from being held, accepted it, nodded at Luo Songran, and then left the noisy bar with his tablet in hand.

Feeling relieved, he could finally observe in a quiet place.

Luo Songran watched the tall and handsome man leave the bar, dressed plainly but with a gentle and elegant demeanor, which indeed seemed out of place in a bar, yet somehow he had caught his eye. Wasn’t that fate?

How fortunate that there was no companion by his side.

“Little Luo, have you set your sights on a new target again?”

Luo Songran glanced at his friends who had come to his side, smiling smugly, completely different from the obedient look just now, “Listen up, don’t come looking for me lately. Wait until I catch this man, then come find me. This young master is temporarily turning over a new leaf.”

Let today’s bad mood end here. He could start looking forward to tomorrow.

Outside the bar—

The assistant saw the boss coming out and immediately approached, “Mr. Duan, how’s today’s data? Is it stable?” as he opened the back door of the car.

Duan Yizhou bent down and sat in the car, leaning back in the seat. He opened his tablet to check all the data exported by the ‘Hypermemory Chip 2.0’.

Chip 2.0 implant recipient: Luo Songran

Gender: A-class beta

Pheromones: Citrus Rose

Allergens: Egg Protein

Sinus rhythm: 102 beats/min

Blood pressure: Systolic pressure 102mmHg/Diastolic pressure 59mmHg (abnormally low diastolic pressure, preliminary judgment of constitutional hypotension)

Body temperature: 37.4°C (chip adaptation low-grade fever)

Abnormal body conditions: Soft tissue injuries to the back and left leg, multiple subcutaneous bruises

Chip adaptation degree: 50% [Data reference: 90%]

Today’s data analysis report: [The recipient’s adaptation to the chip is poor, further observation is needed. If the low-grade fever persists, consider suspending the operation of Chip 2.0 in the body.]

In the rearview mirror, the assistant saw the boss’s expression darken slightly, knowing that something might not be right. “…Is it not working well again?”

The Hypermemory Chip 2.0 was developed by Neptune Technology in collaboration with many experts from home and abroad over five years specifically for the population allergic to egg protein. Last year, this chip had already been officially introduced to major hospitals, and the feedback was very positive. And this ‘young master’ from the Galaxy Group had undergone the surgery just last week and now, on the fifth day, the degree of integration with the chip was still very low. Otherwise, their boss wouldn’t personally supervise like this, fearing that something might go wrong.

It was fifteen years ago when this ‘young master’ had an allergic shock after implanting the Hypermemory Chip 1.0 version. And this time, the chip was no longer composed of egg protein but had been replaced with another ingredient that was safer, more efficient, and better integrated and digested by the human body.

But why, after five days, was the compatibility with the chip still so low?

Under normal circumstances, the human body and the chip would be basically integrated within two days.

“He’s still running a fever.” Duan Yizhou lightly touched the word ‘temperature’ with his fingertip, exporting the temperature data for the past five days, which was basically in a low-grade fever state between 37.3-37.5°C.

Such a low-grade fever might not cause significant discomfort, but it was enough to prove Luo Songran’s discomfort with the chip, and his body had already reacted uncomfortably.

“Could it be because this ‘young master’ from the Luo family likes cars and hanging out in bars? Is it a lifestyle problem?” The assistant was clear in his heart. After all, for the past few days, he had been following Mr. Duan to squat near the location of the chip, going to the racetrack during the day and coming to the bar at night, each action following the other.

Duan Yizhou nodded, “That’s one reason, but more importantly, it’s due to the kid’s own physical condition. He’s an A-class beta, and the pheromones he carries are a burden on his body. Normal alphas and omegas have good metabolic functions for pheromones, but he doesn’t. Specifically, for him, the metabolism of pheromones is difficult, which indicates that his own metabolism is not very good. The poor adaptation of the chip implanted is also the same reason.”

“Why? Shouldn’t A-class betas be stronger than ordinary betas?” The assistant was reversing the car and happened to see a familiar handsome young man walking out, getting on a black heavy-duty motorcycle, “Oh, Mr. Duan, isn’t that the little golden bean from the Galaxy Group?”

Hearing the term “little golden bean,” Duan Yizhou glanced at the assistant, “You’re good at naming.”

He then looked out the window, seeing Luo Songran straddling the motorcycle, not putting on a helmet but holding it and saying something to the guy next to him. The two were close, shoulder to shoulder, like good buddies, finally sharing a smile.

Duan Yizhou looked at the scene and said, “His difficulty in metabolizing pheromones is because there are too many alpha pheromones around him affecting his metabolism. He may not be able to smell them, but that doesn’t mean others won’t emit them to him.”

“Do what?” The assistant was like a child asking a hundred questions.

“They will emit weak pheromones to Luo Songran, whether they are omegas or alphas.”

The assistant suddenly realized, “I see, because Little Golden Bean looks handsome, both omegas and alphas like him! But since Little Golden Bean can’t smell the pheromones, he doesn’t know what others think of him, right, Mr. Duan?”

Thinking of the kid’s smile in the bar, Duan Yizhou thought that the kid had a face that was easy to like. He seemed obedient, at least on the surface. Although he only seemed so, the kid didn’t seem to care much about these things. At least as a beta, he thought he was safe and could do as he pleased.

And he didn’t really understand his body, not even feeling the low-grade fever for five days. You couldn’t say his body wasn’t good. To be accurate, his physique and endurance were quite good. Otherwise, how could he endure multiple injuries on his body? Any other little golden bean would probably cry if he got hurt.

But he didn’t. Instead, he had the mind to play around and even turned into a diligent student in front of him, planning to go to the library to study with him tomorrow.

“So, Mr. Duan, how should we deal with someone like Little Golden Bean in this situation? We can’t take the chip out of his body again, can we?”

“What do you think?” Duan Yizhou asked back.

“I think Little Golden Bean would be best to live a simple life for a while.”

Duan Yizhou adjusted his glasses, watching the handsome figure of the motorcycle riding away. Thinking that this motorcycle kid would be a good and diligent little golden bean tomorrow, he said, “Tomorrow, take me to the Yancheng Library.”

“A date?” the assistant asked back.

“Living a simple life,” Duan Yizhou smiled.

This turn of events was completely unexpected, but it perfectly matched his observations. Hope this 2.0 chip will satisfy Mr. Luo.

Assistant: Isn’t this a date?

It’s a date not date 😉
So Neptune Technology seems to be DY’s company.
This like a game of Cat & Mouse, with both filling each role.
Thank you both for the chapter.
