Chapter 6: On A Date

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Luo Songran woke up.

He was a bit groggy from sleep, and upon waking, he felt a bit confused. He first looked around, realizing he was in the library. Then he suddenly remembered why he was there, and he widened his eyes as he looked at Duan Yizhou beside him, hurriedly wiping the corners of his mouth, “Professor Duan, um…”

Duan Yizhou put down his pen. “You’ve slept for two hours.”

In these two hours, his heartbeat was steady, his temperature stable, and his chip adaptability increased by one percent. Indeed, a quiet environment was conducive to better integration of the chip with the body. Coming to the library was the right decision.

Luo Songran was speechless. Great, he fell asleep on their first date?! He slept in front of the alpha he wanted to pursue?! What a blow to his good student image! What should he do? He had to turn the tide!

“Professor Duan, I might have been a bit drowsy from staying up late last night and fell asleep. How about we go to the music room?” Luo Songran thought he could take Duan Yizhou to his own music room! Play the violin for him! Use the elegant image of a violin prince to recover from the embarrassment of falling asleep just now! He couldn’t continue studying here. It would be really embarrassing if he fell asleep again.

“The music room?” Duan Yizhou closed the book, looking at the red mark on Luo Songran’s cheek pressed by his arm, couldn’t help but marvel. Young people could sleep well anywhere. Unlike him, who always had trouble sleeping.

“Professor Duan, I have a midterm performance next month. Can you watch me practice today? Give me some advice.” Luo Songran clasped his hands together, earnestly pleading, “I really need your advice.”

Duan Yizhou thought, the music room is quiet too. As long as it’s not a bar, he can manage to stay detached from worldly desires for a few days. He believed that in this way, the chip would definitely adapt well, and he would be able to write this paper with confidence next week.

A long and gentle violin melody emanated from the music room. It was “Ode to Joy”. 1

The afternoon sunlight was just right, gently falling on the young man playing the violin. The young man stood tall, eyes closed, playing the violin with deep affection. Even the wind outside the window seemed to sigh at the rare tranquility and tenderness of the young man’s decade-long absence, gently brushing the curtains, adding a touch of romance to the atmosphere.

Facing the young man’s chair, a mature and handsome man leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, listening to the music intently, as if he were doing research or attending a seminar, earnestly trying to understand the meaning conveyed by the music to give some advice later.

Duan Yizhou was not someone who liked listening to songs because he felt that voices easily distracted him. Soft music might be slightly better, but he had never thought that violin music could be so…

Hypnotic.

As Luo Songran played the last note, thinking he had already portrayed the image of an elegant prince and could surely redeem himself from falling asleep in the library just now. Just as he opened his eyes, put down the bow, and put on a perfect smile, his lips instantly drooped.

The man sitting on the chair was asleep! He fell asleep! How could this happen?!!!

Luo Songran put down the bow, staring at Duan Yizhou in disbelief, his thin lips trembling, torn between wanting to scold and refraining. It was as if he had been greatly stimulated, his hand holding the violin shaking with anger.

So, what was he doing so affectionately just now? He’s a biology teacher, isn’t he? He’s just a science guy.

Great, he’s talking to a brick wall. He was so angry that he sat on the floor, put the violin back in its case, and then sat cross-legged in front of the sleeping Duan Yizhou, propping his chin with his hand, glaring at him.

What was the point of promising to come to the music room if he fell asleep?! As he glared, his gaze began to become infatuated.

Since he was young, Luo Songran had always felt that the looks of his family were impeccable. There was no alpha in the world who could compare to his fathers, even the photos of his grandfathers when they were young were simply stunning. And he had received education abroad, exposed to many alphas there, many of whom were handsome, but in his eyes, they were just okay.

But this man in front of him, why was he different?

He had to take a good look.

Luo Songran rested his hands on his legs, propped up his chin, found the most comfortable position for himself, and openly stared at this handsome and mature face. His features were handsome and three-dimensional, with a deep ridge leading to a high bridge of the nose. The gold-rimmed glasses on his nose made his face appear particularly steady and noble. Even when sleeping like this, he exuded an aura of comfort, stability, and security that was palpable.

The more he looked, the more he felt the vast difference between them. The dark plaid shirt and black trousers, such tasteless attire, appeared exceptionally steady and gentle on this alpha. If it were anyone else, it would surely be recognized as the classic attire of a homebody, IT personnel, or programmer. But on “Duan Feizhou,” it was different. This was the charm of a well-bred man, wasn’t it? Sometimes you need a break from the wild side and indulge in something mild.

Setting aside how this well-bred man got himself entangled so easily and showed up for a date the next day, the bottom line was: what he liked, he would surely get, and anyone who dared to deceive him would meet a terrible fate.

Duan Yizhou felt a slight pain in his shoulder after some time. He opened his eyes and met the gaze of Luo Songran sitting cross-legged in front of him, staring at him with a childlike look of reproach, which caught him off guard. Then he realized he had actually fallen asleep while listening.

He was usually a light sleeper.

Duan Yizhou adjusted his glasses and felt a bit embarrassed. He coughed lightly, “Sorry, I didn’t sleep until late last night.”

Luo Songran, putting away his infatuated expression, crossed his arms and stared at him with a blank expression, though his actions hinted at displeasure. “Professor Duan, is my violin playing that bad?”

In this exchange, Duan Yizhou felt like he was at a disadvantage. They had only met by chance at a bar, and somehow ended up making plans for today. He didn’t think it needed much logic to analyze why, because this kid didn’t seem like someone you could analyze logically. He was more of an observe-and-react kind of person, and if this kid got upset and went dancing at a bar or rode a motorcycle for thrills, that would be a disadvantage.

“Mr. Luo, I’m just a commoner who doesn’t understand art. But if it weren’t for your beautiful violin playing, I wouldn’t have fallen asleep. I’ve been having trouble sleeping these days, and your music put me to sleep.” With the appropriate familiarity in calling him ‘Mr. Luo’ and a reply that downplayed himself while elevating the other, Duan Yizhou managed to keep a straight face, trying not to reveal how easily he had been lulled.

Luo Songran reached out his hand towards Duan Yizhou, lifting his chin slightly with a hint of pride. “Help me up.”

Without suspicion, Duan Yizhou reached out his hand to lift the kid off the floor, and he himself stood up. As he did, Luo Songran’s body swayed as if he were dizzy from low blood sugar, and Duan Yizhou quickly reached out to support his shoulder, preventing him from falling into his arms.

“Are you alright?” Duan Yizhou looked at Luo Songran with concern. “Is it low blood sugar?”

It seemed so. Since he had personally put on Luo Songran’s health monitor chip, he could see all the health data. The kid did indeed have relatively low blood sugar, compounded by skipping breakfast, which could cause dizziness.

Feigning weakness, Luo Songran was speechless. With an expression of reproach in his eyes, he saw Duan Yizhou tightly holding his shoulders, as if there was a person between them, as if he were some kind of virus and a hug would kill him. He was just dizzy! How could someone be so unromantic?

“Mn…very dizzy,” Luo Songran reluctantly suppressed his true feelings and answered softly, determined to lean into Duan Yizhou’s embrace. Just as he exerted a bit of force to lean into Duan Yizhou’s embrace, he suddenly felt the gaze above his head lock onto him. Carefully tilting his head, he looked up and met Duan Yizhou’s puzzled gaze.

“You have quite a strength.”

Luo Songran was speechless.

Duan Yizhou helped Luo Songran onto a chair, then squatted in front of him, took out a lollipop from his pocket, and thoughtfully unwrapped it before handing it over. “If you’re feeling dizzy, have something sweet.”

The sight of Duan Yizhou squatting and feeding him a lollipop made Luo Songran’s heart beat faster. He gratefully accepted the lollipop, feeling a bit shy as he lowered his head. “Professor Duan, how did you know I like lollipops and even carry them with you?” he couldn’t help but wonder. Was this alpha stalking him at the bar just to have a chance encounter, making everything seem natural?

As he put the lollipop in his mouth, he felt a sweet sensation in his heart.

Duan Yizhou paused with the wrapper in his hand and said truthfully, “You gave me this lollipop last night.”

Luo Songran was so angry he bit the lollipop into pieces, took off the stick, and chewed on it with his cheeks bulging, staring at Duan Yizhou with a ghost of anger in his eyes, wanting to scold but holding back. “…I’m a little angry.”

Duan Yizhou was puzzled by this sudden anger from the kid. Could it be because of low blood sugar causing irritability? Sure enough, he felt his watch vibrate, indicating a rapid heart rate. This was not conducive to his observation.

“So, what can I do to keep you from being angry?” Duan Yizhou looked at Luo Songran earnestly, asking seriously.

Under the man’s sincere gaze, Luo Songran suddenly felt like he was being unreasonable. He felt both angry and puzzled. Was this guy straight? Could he accept a date without any feelings? Was this an old man’s tactic of playing hard to get?

Luo Songran suddenly appreciated his own analysis. He was truly a master of nightlife. If he couldn’t see through this, then all the omegas and alphas swooning over him were just delusional. He bent down slightly, looking at Duan Yizhou and taking the lollipop stick out of his mouth, licking it slowly. “You fell asleep while I was practicing the violin. As an apology, how about going to the opera tonight?”

The sweetness of strawberry lollipop mixed with the fragrance of citrus roses created a wonderful atmosphere. The young man in front of him showed a pretty and charming face, coupled with this ambiguous action. Duan Yizhou furrowed his brows, subtly avoiding eye contact and standing up.

Then, upon hearing Luo Songran’s suggestion to go to the opera, he thought that it should also be a quiet place and conducive to observation.

“Alright,” Duan Yizhou agreed.

Luo Songran secretly decided that tonight at the opera, there must be a kiss! That’s how efficient he was!

That night, in the dark and windy opera house, laughter filled the air.

Sitting in the VIP seats with a great view, Duan Yizhou and the little princess Luo sat in the same posture, and within ten minutes of the opera starting, they were both asleep, arms crossed, completely forgetting one was supposed to observe while the other was supposed to efficiently kiss.

Until the applause of the opera’s finale sounded, both of them simultaneously jerked awake, opened their eyes, and turned to each other with a calm smile, concealing their panic at falling asleep during the opera.

Luo Songran sighed, offering a brief summary of the evening’s opera. He exclaimed, “Professor Duan, ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ is such a tragedy.”

Duan Yizhou, with a serious expression, nodded in agreement. “Indeed, very sad, brings tears to the eyes.”

Just as they finished speaking, the people sitting behind them burst into laughter. “Hahaha, ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ is indeed a comedy! It’s hilarious!”

Duan Yizhou was speechless.

Luo Songran was speechless.

Would it be too late for a sarcastic comeback at this point?
