Chapter 9: I Didn’t Bring Clothes

About halfway back, Luo Songran volunteered to get off. After all, he was heavy, and carrying such a distance would make him tired. Duan Yizhou initially wanted to say it wasn’t tiring, but seeing Luo Songran insist on getting off, he had no choice but to let him down. Watching Luo Songran take a few steps ahead without any difficulty, he felt relieved.
However, he still had some concerns. After all, Luo Songran had soft tissue injuries on his back and left leg, as well as multiple subcutaneous bruises. He suddenly regretted suggesting climbing the mountain.
Luo Songran grumbled as he climbed up, feeling awful. He hated climbing mountains, panting heavily, covered in sweat, completely devoid of any romantic charm. This was completely different from the date he had imagined. After descending the mountain, they walked back to the empty grassy field where they had parked.
Today, Duan Yizhou drove a camper van, originally thinking it would be convenient for both of them to shower after climbing the mountain. However, he couldn’t help but notice Luo Songran’s surprise upon seeing it. It wasn’t that Duan Yizhou looked down on him for not being able to afford a camper van, but it was unexpected.
At that moment, in order to maintain his image, he casually mentioned it belonged to a friend.
The kid actually believed him, so naive.
“Let’s rest for a while before we shower,” Duan Yizhou took out a small chair from the side of the camper van for Luo Songran to sit on, then opened the awning. Suddenly remembering something, he ran to the passenger seat and fetched a pink handheld fan, handing it to Luo Songran.
Luo Songran took the girlish fan in confusion, “ā¦Why do you have this?” Isn’t this something omegas use? Could it be that this man already has someone?
“It belongs to my niece,” Duan Yizhou saw Luo Songran sweating profusely, “Use this to cool down a bit.”
With that, he went back to his tasks.
Only then did Luo Songran relax, realizing it belonged to his niece. He sat under the awning, arms crossed, holding the little pink fan and enjoying the cool breeze. His gaze fell on Duan Yizhou’s drenched t-shirt, the muscles on his back clearly outlined, exuding a strong, hormone-driven sense of masculinity, particularly sexy in his busy state.
Tall and muscular, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, the post-exercise Professor Duan was completely different from the gentleman in the checkered shirt he had seen yesterday.
“Professor Duan.”
Duan Yizhou was squatting in front of the car assembling a grill when he heard Luo Songran calling him. He didn’t look up and continued his work, responding, “What’s up?”
“You must be very likable, right?” Luo Songran’s gaze followed Duan Yizhou’s posture as he squatted down, admiring his perfect waist-to-hip ratio.
Duan Yizhou was speechless. His hands paused, as if this question had caught him off guard. If he were so likable, why was he still single? Even his classmates’ daughters called him uncle. “Not really.”
“Why not?” Luo Songran walked over to Duan Yizhou with the pink fan in hand, squatting beside him, tilting his head to get a better view of Duan Yizhou’s chiseled jawline glistening with sweat. He reached out to wipe it, “Professor Duan, you’re so good-looking. How could no one like you?”
Tall and sexy, surely he must have good physical endurance. How could an alpha like him not be liked? Luo Songran certainly liked him.
Actually, Duan Yizhou wanted to say that in a research lab full of alphas, there weren’t many chances for love. Most of them were alphas working in medical research, and they weren’t young anymore. Basically, they would end up with arranged marriages in the end. He wasn’t particularly concerned about his marriage anyway; he’d cross that bridge when he came to it.
“I don’t come into contact with omegas,” Duan Yizhou tightened the legs of the grill, feeling a cool breeze on his face. He glanced at Luo Songran who handed him the fan.
Perhaps due to his constitution, Luo Songran’s post-exercise blush was healthy and beautiful, his collar was soaked, his forehead hair dampened by sweat, slightly messy, but it didn’t affect his facial attractiveness in the slightest. And when he approached, along with the evaporation of sweat, his skin emitted a stronger scent of citrus and rose pheromones than usual.
Although type A beta pheromones had no guiding effect on alphas and omegas, the intensity of this fragrance still made people feel something, like a bottle of good perfume, spraying it on the body would bring a sense of relaxation or even excitement. He saw his reflection in Luo Songran’s eyes.
“So, Professor Duan, do you like omegas?”
The answer to this question was obvious. Under normal circumstances, alphas certainly liked omegas. Luo Songran moved closer to Duan Yizhou, his gaze fixed on him, trying to hear a different answer from this man.
Duan Yizhou smelled the increasingly fragrant pheromones emanating from the kid and, pretending to need a tool, stood up, creating some distance, and walked to the other side of the camper van to open the storage compartment, “From a biological perspective, the probability of attraction between alphas and omegas is ninety percent, so I suppose I fall within that probability.”
Luo Songran was speechless. Damn biology major. He stood up with irritation, supporting his knees. In that moment, a tingling sensation shot through his feet like an electric current, causing him to half-squat in pain, waving his arm to find something to hold onto. Before he could say anything, his entire body was suddenly lifted into the air.
Luo Songran exclaimed in surprise, instinctively wrapping his arms around Duan Yizhou’s neck, looking at him in astonishment. Duan Yizhou carried Luo Songran to the door of the camper van and set him down, letting him sit inside. Because the height of the van was higher than the small chair, it would help his leg circulation. Duan Yizhou then knelt in front of him, holding one ankle with one hand and gently massaging his calf with the other.
“In the future, try not to squat with both feet. It’s less likely to cause numbness if you use one knee. You’re still young, so it’s not a big deal now, but if you get older, standing up with numb feet can lead to injuries,” he noticed a red string tied around Luo Songran’s fair and slender ankle and inexplicably shifted his gaze away.
Luo Songran was initially touched, but as soon as those words were spoken, the smile froze on his lips.
Why is this man like this? He’s supposed to be a straight guy, but sometimes his actions are romantic, then the next second, he’s completely indifferent, utterly unpredictable.
He was so angry that he pulled his ankle out of Duan Yizhou’s hand and turned to walk into the van. “I’m going to shower.”
He comforted himself, not getting angry, it’s his own fault. Stay calm, stay calm, there’s no one he can’t handle.
Duan Yizhou’s hand remained in the position of his earlier actions. He saw Luo Songran’s annoyed figure and bewildered expression. Why is he angry again? He even helped with the massage. He couldn’t figure it out, so he decided not to bother. After all, it’s typical for someone young. His niece was like this, too. She’d be happy one moment and crying the next.
When lunchtime came, Duan Yizhou took out the wagyu steaks and pasta from the small fridge, which his assistant had prepared for him last night. He even asked how to cook them, and his assistant told him: [Sear each side of the steak for a minute and a half, then slice it and drizzle with black pepper sauce; boil the pasta for ten minutes, adding a spoonful of salt during the boiling process.]
It was simple. Feeling confident for his first time cooking, Duan Yizhou vowed to himself. Even though he’d only been responsible for eating during camping trips before.
Just as he placed the steaks on the preheated grill pan, he heard Luo Songran’s voice from inside the van, “Professor Duan, I forgot to bring clothes.”
Upon hearing this, Duan Yizhou turned and went into the bedroom to get him some clothes, grabbing a t-shirt and heading to the bathroom. He knocked on the door. “Wear mine for now.”
As he opened the bathroom door, steam billowed out. He saw Luo Songran, who had just finished showering, wrapped in a towel around his lower body, his upper body exposed. His forehead hair was disheveled, and his wet hair dripped onto his collarbones and shoulders. The bruises on his left leg were clearly visible, sparking some thoughts.
The cold white skin emitted a faint pink in this small space, subtly reacting with the citrus and rose pheromones on his body. The collision of sight and smell was sensitive.
Duan Yizhou’s hand holding the clothes trembled slightly. He admitted he hadn’t seen many omegas, but if omegas were like Luo Songran⦠Fortunately, Luo Songran was a beta.
“I forgot to bring clothes. Thanks,” Luo Songran pretended not to notice Duan Yizhou’s reaction, calmly taking the clothes from him and putting them on. After putting them on, he found that Duan Yizhou’s clothes looked like a dress on him.
Luo Songran looked down at the length of the shirt on his thighs and thought it was fine, so he let the towel fall, revealing his two straight, slender legs.
Duan Yizhou felt dizzy looking at the exposed long legs in front of him. He hesitated, then pointed to the bedroom. “I have pants.”
“Your clothes are so big. Can I even wear your pants? Will they fall off? It’s better not to wear them. It’s just the two of us here anyway,” Luo Songran covered his head with the towel and wiped his hair as he walked out.
As he raised his hand to wipe his hair, his waistline became faintly visible. Duan Yizhou felt that his clothes were too short. Frowning, he walked back into the bedroom to get a jacket. When he came down with the jacket, he saw Luo Songran sitting on the chair, leaning back, wiping his hair, with his neck exposed, his arms, and legs crossed, shining under the sun. The red string on his right ankle was particularly eye-catching, adding a touch of elegance.
The injury on his left leg was also very noticeable.
“What happened to your leg?”Ā
Luo Songran was still wiping his hair, but when he saw a jacket draped over his thigh, he stopped and looked up at Duan Yizhou. He didn’t think about hiding it and said, “Got hit.”
He looked down at the jacket covering his leg, with a slight smile on his lips.
“Who hit you?” Duan Yizhou pulled over a small stool and sat in front of Luo Songran.
Luo Songran casually draped the towel over his head and leaned against the chairback, feeling a bit strange seeing Duan Yizhou, who was so big, sitting on the small stool, looking like he wanted to have a serious conversation.
After thinking for a moment, he decided to tell him, “During a race, I crossed the finish line first, but I got rear-ended by a car from behind.”
Duan Yizhou frowned. “Did you see a doctor? Did you tell your family?”
Luo Songran shook his head. “I can’t tell them. If I do, they won’t let me participate in races anymore, but it’s not too serious.”
“Luo Songran.”
Luo Songran was stunned. It seemed like it was the first time Duan Yizhou had called his name. He subconsciously swallowed, “What’s wrong?”
In their family, being called by their full name was usually a bad sign.
“Nothing, if I were your dad, I wouldn’t let you participate in races either,” Duan Yizhou crossed his legs and said seriously.
Luo Songran was speechless. In just two days, he seemed to have resigned himself to not expecting anything from this man. Now he just wanted to know when he could have some meat. At that moment, he seemed to smell something burning and sniffed, following the scent to his right. He saw a blackened mass on the grill pan. “What are you frying?”
Duan Yizhou was reminded by him and suddenly remembered he was frying steak. He immediately stood up and walked over. “I’m frying steak.”
He hurried back to the grill pan, hurriedly turning off the heat and then clumsily dealing with the charred steak on the pan.
Luo Songran followed him over, watching Duan Yizhou deal with the awkward situation. He leaned in to see the blackened steak on the pan, showing a disdainful expression. “Tsk, in our family, if an alpha can’t cook, they’re getting dunked in a pigsty.”
Duan Yizhou was speechless.
