When Wen JinHan opened his eyes again, he had already returned to the modern world.

“How long was I asleep?” he asked hoarsely.

The Duke, who was sitting beside the bed, glanced at him, his expression a little solemn. “One day and one night. Your wound was inflamed, which caused a high fever. After getting to the hospital by helicopter, the doctors discovered that the infection was too widespread and most of your calf had necrosis, so they could only amputate it.”

“…Duke, can’t you at least be a bit sympathetic toward a patient’s fragile heart? Are you saying that leg of mine that’s propped up is actually a mannequin’s?”

“It looks like the fever didn’t damage your brain.”

“You’re the one whose brain is damaged.”

“Do you want to get thrown back there?”

“Ah, my leg hurts. Call a doctor, quick!”

“…”

“I’m still hungry.” Wen Jinhan was sitting on the hospital bed as he raised his empty bowl.

“You’re not getting any exercise right now, so you can’t eat too much.”

“You didn’t go bankrupt, did you? You’re so poor you can’t even take care of your lover properly.”

“Lover?” The Duke suddenly drew closer and placed his hands on the bed’s headboard, trapping Wen JinHan there. “You still remember your role?”

With the Duke’s scorching breath brushing his cheeks, Wen JinHan shrunk back. This was troublesome, for he had seen the thing he dreaded most in the Duke’s gaze: lust.

“Hahaha… Don’t be so scary~ In the past, Brother Chen would never scare people like that.” Wen JinHan blinked meaningfully.

The Duke leaned in even more and said in a low voice next to his ear, “Are you purposely trying to disgust me with your previous man?”

“H-How could I? I just meant that with your social status, you can get whichever beauty you want, so you don’t have to waste your time on me. Ha, haha…”

The Duke looked down and carefully examined him, smirking. “People’s tastes always change. Now, I’m quite interested in people with a lot of experience.”

Wen JinHan shook his head like a rattle. “I don’t have a lot of experience!”

“Then you can accumulate it slowly, I’ll help you.”

“M-My leg is still injured.”

“You won’t need to use your leg, you just need to lay still.”

“How could that work?! I have professional ethics, so that would affect my performance!”

“Professional? How many of these transactions have you made before?” The Duke lowered his voice.

“No! I was just… making an analogy…”

After licking Wen JinHan’s earlobe and watching him shiver slightly, the Duke was finally satisfied, and he straightened up.

“It’s just a skin injury, so it’ll heal quickly. I eagerly await your showcase of your professional ethics. When the time comes, don’t disappoint me.” Then, still holding his head up high, the Duke calmly walked out of the hospital room.

“A joint research group from the higher-ups came to our hospital to research and develop medical technology with us,” the chief of staff of Hospital Three said slowly as he adjusted his glasses.

“Do you know where this research group came from?” asked Guan Jin.

“Of course, we definitely wouldn’t collaborate with random people with unclear backgrounds. Secretary Li from the Health Bureau personally called to tell me about them, and the higher-ups also issued a document about strengthening cooperation and communication between the top three hospitals.” The chief took out a document from his drawer and placed it on the table.

“How do you know this document is real? You believed that the secretary who called really was the secretary just because he said so?”

“What?! The document has the official stamp on it, and it’s not like I don’t know Secretary Li, of course I know it’s him! Officer, you can’t just make wild guesses! Last time I had a meal with Secretary Li, he even personally told me to attach importance to this exchange event so we could learn from each other’s advanced technology!” The chief’s face was red, and his eyes twitched.

“Did you know the experts who came for the exchange?” Wen JingHan asked calmly.

“Um, I didn’t. However, two of them are quite famous in the industry. Besides, we don’t have a lot of contact with the northern province, so it’s understandable that I didn’t know them. The group came bringing credentials and documents, and they were brought here by the Health Bureau.”

“Then do you know that these five or six experts completely disappeared after leaving?”

“W-What…”

*****

As he held a stack of scientific research papers, Wen JingHan said while walking, “This organization has a lot of influence here. They were able to impersonate a group of experts flawlessly.”

“Their family members and units of the original experts said that their phone calls were all normal. Ramis’s men must’ve kidnapped the experts and forced them to contact their family and units so as not to arouse suspicion. However, why would they continue keeping up the pretense that the experts are still here even after leaving?” Guan Jin was puzzled.

“Because they still can’t expose themselves yet. After leaving, if they let those experts go, they would call the police, and the police would find out what they did in Hospital Three. If they killed those experts, then the fact that no one had heard from them for a long time would also expose them.”

“But now that we’ve found them out, do you think those experts are alive or dead?”

“It’s hard to say. The Serious Crimes Unit is searching for their whereabouts right now. We’ll turn in these materials and control access to the laboratory building while we wait for some medical experts to inspect it.”

“Boss!” Chen QiaoYu and Zheng Fei ran up to him.

“We looked into it, and two of those experts are psychiatrists, and they were conducting research in a psychiatric center that’s affiliated with Hospital Three. While they were there, three psychiatric patients suddenly became sick and died from self-harm,” said Chen QiaoYu.

“Where are their bodies?”

“They were already cremated.”

Wen JinHan tsked. “I can only guess that they were secretly testing medicine on psychiatric patients, which caused even more severe mental effects and led to death. Of course, they probably wouldn’t have left these people alive anyway.”

“This Ramis usually operates in South America, so how could he have moved here and gained so much control so quickly?” Guan Jin furrowed his brows in contemplation.

Wen JingHan opened his mouth, but in the end, he didn’t say anything.

*****

“There’s a lot of forces involved in this case. Don’t overthink it and take it slowly. I reckon that it’ll end up being taken care of by higher-ups.” Lu YunYang said to Guan Jin, who was deep in thought, while he cut watermelon slices. “You really are addicted to being a police officer.”

Guan Jin narrowed his eyes at him. “Addicted? Yeah, I am. But the way you put it, maybe it would be better if I went back to being an assassin because it matches my heartless and cruel personality, right?”

“…” After analyzing so many people’s minds, Lu YunYang still couldn’t read his lover’s thoughts.

“How could that be? My Little Jin is kind, innocent, sincere, compassionate——”

“Stop!” Guan Jin grabbed a slice of watermelon. “There’s not one bit of truth to those. Why don’t you get your lame Gods organization to investigate clearly before trying to flatter me?”

“Ahem,” Lu YunYang felt that his lungs would hurt every time Guan Jin brought up his organization. “How could I dare get them to bother you? I don’t know about some other things, but I definitely won’t interfere with your work, and I’ll give you absolute freedom and respect. I’m a man of my word!” He patted his chest proudly.

“What, do you think the hole in your lung is too small?” Guan Jin grabbed his hand.

“Ah, I’m glad you care about me.” Lu YunYang leaned closer to Guan Jin.

“Dammit! Go away and wash your hands, they’re sticky!”

Lu YunYang frowned, having been thwarted by a watermelon.

“Seth, what are you doing…” When Wen JingHan entered the room, he saw the Duke struggling with A-Dai.

“…This stupid cat would eat anything. She ate, ahem, she ate one of my buttons.” The Duke placed the fat cat to the side and tidied himself up, once again the elegant Duke.

“Button? What button?” Wen JingHan suddenly understood. “A button that’s also a listening device?”

“…” The Duke definitely wouldn’t admit that he had secretly tried to install the most advanced eavesdropping equipment in the bedroom.

“A-Dai, when you poop it out, make sure to clean it up and bring it to me.”

“How’s your case coming along?”

Wen JingHan smiled. “When did you start caring about my work?”

I don’t care about your work, all I care about is how that man turned up again, and whether or not he would dare to bother you. No, I must find that Gods organization again to find Ou Chen and throw him into the ocean to feed the fish in order to avoid future troubles!

I think I missed one chapter, because I don’t know how they’ve end up in the jungle… I need to re-read it…

That research team was a well-organised fraud with many people involved, I hope ther won’t be deaths, though.

Looks like the organisation will be put to work one way or another 😂

Thank you for the chapter!!!

Great to have Guan Jin and Lu YunYang back in the story and some present-day happenings mixed in too.
I don’t blame Seth for not wanting Ou Chen turning up; he’s trouble & might wish harm on WJH. His business might even be infringing on Seth’s, after all, he’s no angel!
Thanks for translating and editing.

I’m curious about OS, what happened to him after all this time… I don’t think he will harm WJH. I do believe that in what capacity he knew how, he cared for WJH. He might have realized it was too late after he was gone. I like our GJ and LYY again! ❤️❤️
