After the college entrance exams, Chen Yang completely stayed at home and didn’t go out. Before he turned eighteen, he promised Du Shuo that they would continue their marriage. As a result, he had to fulfill his obligations as a husband. On the night of his eighteenth birthday, he consummated the marriage with Du Shuo, officially becoming a married couple. This was a solid, undeniable relationship, with no way to back out or divorce.
In July, he received the admission letter from B University. Chen Yang packed his things and boarded the train to the capital with Du Shuo to attend school. Grandpa Wu had left him a bank card, which contained enough money to cover his tuition and living expenses. However, there was no place to stay in the capital, and if Chen Yang lived there, Du Shuo would have no place to stay.
Although Du Shuo didn’t often appear in the human world, they needed their own space. They couldn’t be going to hotels every time they met. So, after spending one semester in the dormitory, Chen Yang rented a house near the school. There were many old houses near the school, with a quiet environment and affordable prices. He rented it for four years, planning to use it as a stable home for him and Du Shuo.
When Chen Yang was in his second year of college, Du Shuo chose to take up a job in the capital, which later became the position of the director of the Great Fortune office. The Great Emperor didn’t care about human life, unaware of the cost of living, but when he heard Chen Yang complain about the rent increase, he immediately paid for the four years of rent in one go. Chen Yang was stunned and only then learned that Du Shuo had taken up a job in the human world.
Chen Yang asked, “What kind of job did you take?”
Du Shuo replied, “I read feng shui.”
“You know how to read feng shui?” Chen Yang, barefoot on the fabric sofa, holding a cushion, asked as he turned to look at Du Shuo, who had just returned.
“A little bit,” Du Shuo said, taking off his scarf and hanging it on the coat rack. He removed his shoes and sat on the sofa, pulling Chen Yang into his arms. “Anything I say, they believe. Generally speaking, the feng shui issues I need to look at are rare and not difficult.” The people who required Du Shuo’s feng shui expertise were usually related to the state’s fortunes, which were very rare. Sometimes, he didn’t need to intervene for an entire year. But once he did, the solution was always easy.
Chen Yang nodded, thinking it was just about house feng shui. He then asked, “Isn’t that a side job for you? If the Underworld finds out, won’t you be punished?”
“It’s not,” Du Shuo answered. “It’s fine.”
Chen Yang smiled and said, “By the way, I dreamt of Grandpa Wu last night. He said he’s coming to see me soon, but I don’t know in what form. Grandpa Wu said he has a good relationship with the ghost officials, and the ghost officials let him out to meet me.”
Grandpa Wu was now the City God of Pingcheng. A City God couldn’t leave their city without permission unless they found someone to replace them, but even then, they couldn’t be gone for too long. Du Shuo, absentmindedly thinking about this, suddenly had an image of Grandpa Wu’s face flash through his mind. A headache immediately started, as he almost forgot that he had once made a solemn vow in front of Grandpa Wu that the marriage contract would be annulled. But now, not only had it not been annulled, but he had also taken Chen Yang as his own, sleeping with him every night.
For the first time, the wise and decisive Emperor of the Underworld felt somewhat guilty. He cleared his throat and asked Chen Yang, “Did Grandpa Wu… cough, did Grandpa Wu mention me?”
“I forgot,” Chen Yang turned and said, “Grandpa Wu only spoke a little in the dream and then left. He seemed busy. It’s fine, we can talk when he comes.”
Du Shuo thought that since Grandpa Wu knew his identity and was now part of the Underworld, he could be considered Du Shuo’s subordinate. He thought that, as his superior, Du Shuo should at least not face any consequences. After all, he was the Emperor of the Underworld.
The Emperor’s thoughts were optimistic. Although Grandpa Wu didn’t expose him, it was entirely because of Chen Yang’s face. At that time, Du Shuo borrowed the body of an old man who had only three days left to live, but he had made a fair agreement with the old man to borrow his body. After finding Chen Yang’s rented house, Du Shuo rang the doorbell, and when Chen Yang opened the door, he smiled kindly and said, “Yangyang, Grandpa Wu is here to see you.”
Chen Yang hesitated for a moment but quickly recognized him and happily opened the door, welcoming him inside. The two of them sat on the sofa and shared the events of the past three years. Grandpa Wu said, “Things are good on my side, generally fine. How about you, Yangyang? How’s everything? Do you have enough money? Are you being bullied at school? I’ve heard that school bullying is really bad these days, so you need to be careful.”
Chen Yang nodded, “I’m fine, everything’s good. I haven’t encountered any school bullying, and even if I did, they couldn’t beat me. I have enough money; you left me plenty. Grandpa Wu, how long will you be staying this time?”
Grandpa Wu replied, “Three days. The body I borrowed only has three days left to live.”
At this point, Chen Yang had become indifferent to life and death. He knew Grandpa Wu would only stay for three days. Although he felt a little sorrowful, there was no overwhelming sadness. After all, this separation didn’t mean eternal farewell; they would meet again. So, he changed the subject and said to Grandpa Wu, “I’ll make you some tea.”
Grandpa Wu was surprised, “Aren’t you the one who hates the bitterness of tea and always refuses to drink it?”
Chen Yang smiled. “Du Shuo likes it.”
“Du—Du Shuo? You two still live together? Yangyang, did you really take Grandpa Wu’s words to heart, treating Du Shuo like a father and being so filial?”
Chen Yang nodded. “Mm.”
Grandpa Wu asked, “So, Du—Du Shuo, what was his reaction?”
Cough, cough! Chen Yang suddenly coughed several times, almost blurted out the words “He was not only happy but also extremely excited.” He quickly nodded, “He… he didn’t oppose it.”
Grandpa Wu thought that his clever plan of recognizing Du Shuo as a godfather had succeeded and nodded in satisfaction. He then noticed that many things in the room were matching sets, which he assumed were couples’ items. Looking at Chen Yang, who was pouring tea, he realized that Chen Yang was now 21 years old, and it was about time for him to have a girlfriend. Maybe, in the near future, he could even hold a grandchild. He chuckled to himself.
The more Grandpa Wu thought about it, the more wonderful life seemed.
The door opened from the outside, and Du Shuo walked in. He changed his slippers at the entrance, noticed a pair of unfamiliar elderly shoes, and deduced that Grandpa Wu had arrived. He walked over to the living room, meeting Grandpa Wu’s gaze. Grandpa Wu stood up, with a calm yet respectful and kind attitude, treating Du Shuo like a guest and inviting him to sit and have tea.
Du Shuo raised an eyebrow slightly and walked over to sit opposite Grandpa Wu. Grandpa Wu was still warm and friendly, and Du Shuo could engage in the conversation easily. For a moment, the atmosphere was surprisingly harmonious. After a while, Chen Yang went into the kitchen to cook, and when he came back with the food, he saw the two of them deeply engaged in a discussion about matters related to the Underworld and the souls of the human world.
“Grandpa Wu, brother Du, it’s time to eat.”
Grandpa Wu stood up, took a few steps, then stopped and stared at Chen Yang. “What did you call him?”
Chen Yang glanced at Du Shuo. “Brother Du.”
“You’re being rude! Call him Uncle.” Grandpa Wu scolded.
Chen Yang looked confused, glancing back and forth between the two before responding, “But brother Du is my husband. Wouldn’t calling him ‘Uncle’ be confusing the generational order?”
“What husband? What nonsense are you saying?” Grandpa Wu’s face twitched. He suddenly remembered that the couple sets he saw were ridiculously large, clearly for two men. The shoe cabinet only had large men’s shoes, no women’s shoes. He trembled as he asked, “Yangyang, tell Grandpa honestly, after you turned eighteen, did you resolve the marriage contract with Du Shuo?”
“No,” Chen Yang smiled awkwardly. “We’re already legitimate.”
Grandpa Wu’s mind was swirling in circles, almost getting caught up in his thoughts. He glared at the unrepentant, expressionless Emperor of the Underworld and, after a long pause, managed to choke out, “Big… a-hole!”
From then on, Grandpa Wu looked at the Emperor of the Underworld with disdain, no longer showing any respect.
Author’s note:
Emperor of the Underworld: Cough, Grandpa Wu…
Grandpa Wu, who’s a thousand years younger than the Emperor of the Underworld: Shameless!
PS: I hope you’re not bothered by terms like “husband” and “wife” in the text. “Wife” here refers to a partner, someone who complements the other, so please understand it this way.

🤣🤣🤣
I do feel a little badly for Grandpa Wu for being tricked but at least he can show disdain to the Fengdu Emperor even though he is DS’s subordinate
