“Yes.” Hu Yinnan nodded and said, “He called the police last night. From the description, he was calling for help and kept saying there were ghosts. It’s strange, his family were in the house too but they didn’t hear a thing.”

“Is he the one who went to the Ye family estate No. 444 with Yang Xiao?”

Hu Yinnan said, “He has been there twice. But I’m not sure if he died from getting involved with the Ye family estate No. 444 or not. After all, he died in his own home, and he didn’t meet anything strange in Ye family estate No. 444. As you know, an earth-bound ghost cannot leave the place where it died.”

When she said it couldn’t leave the place where it died, she meant that unless through special rituals and means, the ghost can not leave the place where its corpse was. The deceased died in his own home, far away from the Ye family estate No. 444. In principle, it should not be because of the Ye family estate No. 444.

“The Ghost Kingdom.”

There were many records of the Ghost Kingdom in ancient books. According to the Shanhai (mountain ocean) book ¹ it was located in the north. It said that the people of the Ghost Kingdom have a human face but only one eye. It also said that the Ghost Kingdom was the place called Guifang. There were many records in ancient books. The most famous one was about Wuding, the emperor of Shang, attacking Guifang. It talks about how it took Shang three years to conquer Guifeng. Nowadays, some people say that the Ghost Kingdom was in Shanxi. Some say that it was in Hubei, and some say that it was a Northwest tribe. Up to now, it was impossible to determine the location of the Ghost Kingdom. There was no doubt that it was a country that worships ghosts and had an abnormal worship of the eyes.

The Green Clothed God was Cancong, the first monarch of the ancient Shu state. Because he often wore green clothes, he was called the God of Green Clothes and was a God heavily worshiped by the ancient Shu state. Dou Mu Yuan Jun, was the mother of Beidou stars. She had three eyes, four heads, eight arms, and was also a Taoist deity. Among the deities worshiped by Taoism, she was a God with a very high status. As for Ma Wang, he was the God of the Yi tribe.

The ancient Shu state was the descendant of the Wu in the age of Gods. Their ancestors were Houtu. ² They were all related to the worship of ghosts. Therefore, the people of ancient Shu state are known as the descendants of the three eyed ghost tribe. Many bronze masks have been excavated from the famous Sanxingdui site. ³

Hu Xiang asked, “So, what does this have to do with Zhou Chengjun’s death?”

The other two eyes protruding are like two stakes being hammered in. According to some documents of the ancient Shu state, Cancong, the ancestral Emperor of Shu state, had a ‘vertical eye’. Therefore, this is the reason why the bronze masks have a vertical eye. However, it is also said that the bronze vertical eye was a kind of punishment.”

Hu Yinnan said, “You mean that Zhou Chengjun offended the God of Three Eyes, so he was punished for being reckless?”

There were not many people on the bus so there were many vacant seats. As the bus drove forward, the driver yawned and felt strange when he saw a sign in front of him. In his memory, he shouldn’t have turned this way he seldom took this path. Today, he changed routes with his colleague. He shook his head and followed the direction of the sign into a sparsely populated road.

There was a lot of traffic going on and off. The more they drove, the quieter it became. On both sides of the street the lights were on but inexplicably dim, making people feel uncomfortable.

Chen Yang opened his eyes and looked out the window. Du Shuo raised his hand over his eyes and whispered softly, “You don’t have to worry about those things.”

However  those “things” finally meet people who wrongly ventured in so they couldn’t give up.

The people on the bus also noticed something wrong. Somebody asked, “This isn’t Donghua Road. Where is this?” Soon other passengers found out that this was not the road they used to take. The environment outside the window was really weird.

When a female high school student looked out of the window, she met a pair of malicious eyes. At first, she thought it was the reflection of the glass. But when she looked again, she found that there was no one in the opposite seat. So what made the eyes on the glass window?

She looked back again, and a dark figure swept by. “There’s something outside the bus!” she screamed. The scream deepened the fear of the other passengers, who anxiously asked the driver.

The driver’s face turned white and sweat oozed from his forehead. He gritted his teeth and did not dare to say what sign he had just seen. It did not have Donghua Road written on it, but Wenchang Road. Just then he remembered the strange legend about Wenchang Road in Shen City.

Wenchang Road used to be a cemetery. At that time, many poor people lived near there and when they died, they were directly buried there. Some people died without money to get a tomb, so they were all thrown into this land. There were also dead infants and miscarried infants that were thrown here on this road. In the past, Wenchang Road was also called Yinyang Road. It referred to the evilness of this place.

He had also heard colleagues say that if one was unfortunate enough to enter Wenchang Road, they’d better stop and not drive forward or they wouldn’t even know where they were going. That colleague also told him to pay attention to the road signs when he went to Donghua Road.

But he still misread the signs and drove into Wenchang Road. He would never have thought that it was only seven o’clock and the sun had just set that this place was already so ominous.

Just as they were in despair, Chen Yang stood up and said to the driver, “Open the bus door.”

After a long time, the driver responded, “Do you want to get off the bus? Don’t be impulsive. We can wait. Maybe somebody will come to help.”

Chen Yang sighed, “I’ll get off and drive those things away. Open the door. Don’t get out no matter what happens.”

The driver looked at Chen Yang, vaguely realizing that he was lucky to meet an expert in dealing with these things. Quickly he opened the door and let Chen Yang get off of the bus. As soon as Chen Yang got off, the door closed immediately. When he walked out three or four steps away from the bus, he suddenly disappeared and was buried in a thick black fog.

The passengers looked out nervously and expectantly, praying silently in their hearts that Chen Yang would not have an accident. Not only did Chen Yang plan on saving them, but also because Chen Yang was their only straw of hope.

Chen Yang knew what he had walked into before getting off the bus. Earth Sha, was a kind of evil spirit that liked to hover on roads. They liked to attack vehicles and cause traffic accidents. Chen Yang made a hand gesture, the Bei Feng Ghost Killing Seal and chanted, “Bei Feng Ghost Killing Seal, a Fengdu Godly Seal that summons ghosts…… Cut the ghosts and cut the evil spirits. As urgent as a law!”

In an instant, golden light appeared, gradually dispelling the thick black fog. The Earth Sha screamed in the thick fog, retreating quickly and did not dare to stay. People in the bus couldn’t see the golden light, but they could feel that the gloomy sense of oppression was slowly dissipating and the thick fog was thinning.

One of them was unwilling to give up, he kept hitting the window glass. Du Shuo was sitting next to the glass it was hitting and he turned his head and had no expression on his face. His cold eyes were on the Earth Sha. It had not yet reacted to it, but was already scattered into mist.

Having seen something so scary, no more Earth Sha dared to come again. Chen Yang drove away the disturbing Earth Sha, but Wenchang Road was once a cemetery and there were still many wandering ghosts on both sides. Chen Yang pasted two talismans on the bus. Immediately the bus’s engine started.

The Beifeng Ghost Killing Seal was used to kill ghosts, expel evil spirits, and subdue demons. It was one of the seals of Fengdu. It normally required a peach wood seal to use.
