Chapter 28: The First Battle

Zhou Yan pulled Luo Futu’s hand and desperately fled in the opposite direction, not even having the courage to look back. His mind frantically calculated: Under such circumstances, how likely was it that the two of them could escape alive?

Zhou Yan was not a coward. In the battle with the Lurian, he was brave and resourceful, bold and skillful; and he was even awarded the Medal of Honor for killing multiple Lurians. However, that was due to the involvement of mecha. Now in this situation of meeting such a behemoth like the Lurians, there was only one possibility: death.

A Lurian’s nature was brutal, and hunting humans was their instinct. They would be relentless once they found humans, and they could sense the presence of humans through their vision, hearing, smell, and a variety of senses. They were simply born to destroy humans.

This Lurian appeared just now, and when Zhou Yan saw it, it was no different from the Lurian of his own world. Even if they desperately escaped, it was useless. According to the running speed of the monster, in less than five minutes, it would catch up.

The only possibility to escape was that it did not see them as a target of pursuit. However, this situation was almost impossible in this open field nowadays, and there was no other human to chase, if it did not chase them, who would it go after?

Zhou Yan thought so, and from behind, the ‘thump, thump’ of the footsteps came closer and closer, along with the earth shaking violently underfoot, causing Zhou Yan to be knocked against.

“Shit!” Zhou Yan couldn’t help but burst out a curse. He jerked to a stop, pulled out the machine gun in his backpack before he turned around and aimed at the monster. “Split up and run!”

Luo Futu had no weapons in his hands, and he would drag them down a little. However, Zhou Yan knew in his heart that this kind of gun was useless against a Lurian.

Luo Futu did not run away as he wished, but stopped beside him, and Zhou Yan pulled the trigger hard and yelled, “Why did you stop?! Run!”

Luo Futu’s chest rose and fell sharply; he did not speak but only tilted his head to look over. Zhou Yan then realized that the Lurian was only a few dozen meters away from them, even if he could hold this guy back, Luo Futu could not run away.

‘They were finished.’

“It’s the first time I’ve seen this kind of monster.” Luo Futu obviously also understood the current situation that they had no possibility of escape, and they could only go hard. “I finally understand why you are so nervous at the mention of it, it must be more than ten meters tall.”

The monster in front of them was not only very large, but had a large mouth that made up almost the entire body. It had sharp jagged teeth, thick limbs, and was clad in armor-like scales. The head was as disgusting as rotting entrails; even the smell was very much like rotten offal. It stood in front of them and roared. The wind, mixed with fishy bits, almost made Luo Futu vomit.

Luo Futu thought that this was very strange. ‘Why, when he was just smelling the wind, did he not smell anything? It was reasonable to say that such a strong smell should be smelled.’

“We are not unlucky, this is only a young Lurian. An adult is tens of meters or even hundreds of meters high.”

They were not unlucky, but juvenile eaters would swallow everything whole and would not even chew so everything that went into its mouth would not survive.

Zhou Yan stared closely at the Lurian, and he saw that Luo Futu persistently refused to go. He was somewhat desperate to pull the trigger, and then watched as the bullets passed through its head, as if absorbed by a black hole, leaving no trace at all. As for those bullets hitting its armor, they bounced away. He knew that ordinary guns could not hurt it at all.

Even the researchers on the Dense Cloud Planet had not understood this until now. Lurians were, in the end, several-dimensional creatures. Since there were places on its body that were immune to gunshots where it hit it and fell into a black hole, like it had been absorbed away to the point where the shells couldn’t even be found, and there were places where it could bounce back gunshots, which was very strange.

It may not belong to any dimension, or it only travels between dimensions. It sounded unbelievable…. but its very existence was already incredible.

Zhou Yan’s action angered the Lurian, and it roared long and loud into the sky before it opened its mouth wide towards them, and then bit down.

Luo Futu grabbed Zhou Yan, and  with a ‘whoosh’, they disappeared from that place before they then appeared not far away on another piece of flat ground. The spot they had been standing on was directly broken off by the monster.

Zhou Yan looked at Luo Futu in shock, who took a step forward to block him so he was behind.

Zhou Yan gasped sharply and said, “If you can escape on your own, go ahead and leave me alone.”

Luo Futu at least knew spells, if he negotiated with his life, there was still a ray of hope. However, Luo Futu sneered, “Escape? Who do you think I am?”

“….” ‘What’s the point of playing hard to get at a time like this?’

Unfortunately, Luo Futu did not listen to him at all. As he himself said, Luo Futu had never had the experience of running away. He was the high priest, the ruler of the country, and a god in the eyes of the subjects of the Zedoary Continent.

Luo Futu opened the small pocket he carried, inserted his hand into it, and the crocus flowers inside were instantly absorbed. At the same time, a layer of fluorescence emerged from Luo Futu’s body. These were the flowers picked before the trip, just in case. Zhou Yan had worried that if Luo Futu’s spiritual power was not enough, he could suddenly become paralyzed, so there were these flowers that would at least help a little. He now absorbed the flowers in one breath in order not to escape, but to fight for his life with this Lurian.

Zhou Yan was worried. “You can’t deal with it….”

“How do you know if I don’t try? I’ve never killed this kind of monster, so let’s test the water with it.”

Luo Futu’s two fingers pointed straight up to the sky, and then drew a strange pattern in the air. The layer of fluorescence enveloping his body suddenly became stronger, and his black robe also rose without wind, floating behind him. It was an icy, terrifying aura, and Zhou Yan felt a little scared, even as the one he was protecting behind him.

Then he saw the design drawn by Luo Futu. Rather than call it a pattern, the design glowed in mid-air, and the fluorescence of Luo Futu’s body linked with it, bursting out in a dazzling light. The totem seemed to be a Thule snake, but it didn’t look like an ordinary snake, because the snake’s head seemed to be split in two: one side yin and one side yang, one side black and one side white.

Zhou Yan stared at it and squinted his eyes, suddenly remembering that there did seem to be a snake that looked like this in history, named Zhulong.1

It was a creature from mythology

“Ang—!”

The Lurian suddenly shouted, snapping Zhou Yan back to his senses. This Lurian had already turned around and redirected its teeth at the two of them. At this point, unlike before, Zhou Yan was surprised to find that the Lurian in front of him did not launch an attack, but instead took a step back.

It seemed to be afraid.

“Wait!” Zhou Yan tugged at Luo Futu’s robe, and the latter glanced at him with an unusually stern look. This was Luo Futu’s appearance on the battlefield, and it was really very frightening. However, Zhou Yan could not let him fight with this monster— Luo Futu’s body had not yet recovered so he could not consume energy, and must be wise.

Zhou Yan raised his chin slightly towards the Lurian and said, “It is afraid of your power.”

Luo Futu frowned slightly.

“This means that mystic power can really deal with Lurian. We are not all without a chance of winning now, but fighting hard will not work…. You can’t hold out. “

Luo Futu knew that he was right, so he asked, “So what do you say? No more nonsense about letting me run away first, it’s a waste of time.”

Zhou Yan uncomfortably pursed the corners of his lips. “I just looked carefully. This one seems to be blind, and can only rely on smell to identify our location.”

Luo Futu looked at the Lurian’s eyes and saw two eyeballs among a mess of features, but the two eyeballs were gray and white, as if covered with a layer of cataracts.

Luo Futu nodded and Zhou Yan continued, “That means it can’t see anything, and can only smell our presence. Do you remember that cliff just now? Lure it over.”

Luo Futu immediately understood Zhou Yan’s meaning and nodded towards him, fiercely withdrawing his hand. His long sleeves swirled in the air and threw out in an arc; the beast in the air was instantly retracted.

Luo Futu grabbed Zhou Yan and rushed straight to the cliff where he came from. “Let’s go!”

He used a spell this time to run on the snow, using no mystic power to block. With the attraction of human scent, the Lurian rushed towards them again. The cold wind was like a sharp blade scraping at the face, and the soft snow foam was turned into concealed weapons that blew at the face, and hitting the human face, it was especially painful.

As both sides raced, Zhou Yan realized that even if Luo Futu used spells to escape, they were no match for this Lurian, and if they kept running, they would eventually be caught by it.

They rushed straight towards the cliff, and when they reached the edge of the cliff, Luo Futu made a sharp turn and stopped at the side. Zhou Yan hoped that the monster would not be able to brake because of its huge weight, and would fall straight to the bottom of the cliff, so that it could be destroyed and would not be able to run into the residential area to harm others. God forbid, the monster was very flexible. Although it indeed rushed to the edge of the cliff, the smell of Zhou Yan and Luo Futu caused it to change direction. With its four strong legs, it stomped on the edge of the cliff, and shot at them like a cannonball.

Zhou Yan looked up and saw it pouncing with its mouth wide open, and hastily shouted, “It’s not dead!”

However, Luo Futu had already put Zhou Yan on the ground, and it was too late to pick him up. He could have dodged, but in that case, Zhou Yan would have been bitten into two pieces by the monster.

In the nick of time, Luo Futu suddenly rushed up, and Zhou Yan saw the light on his right hand forming into four sharp, long, whistling claws that he swung directly towards the monster’s head. At the same time, the Lurian’s front claws also grabbed Luo Futu and both sides fought like they were having a beastly claws and teeth competition.

Zhou Yan shouted, “The weakest point is the eyes!”

However, it happened so fast that Zhou Yan wasn’t sure if Luo Futu had time to change direction, and he couldn’t see the two sides move. He could only see that in the confusion, the two sides collided together. The Lurian roared and rolled with Luo Futu. The Lurian’s huge body slid far away and fell on the edge of the cliff, while Luo Futu flew out in the air and crashed into a tree trunk, falling in front of the monster.

“Luo Futu!” Zhou Yan couldn’t help but call out, but Luo Futu didn’t fall down completely. He just rolled on the ground and immediately got up again in the next second, and those four claws of clear light illusions once again grabbed at the monster on the ground. This time, he accurately tore its eyes, and even the earth beneath his feet was torn open. The cliff immediately broke and the heavily injured Lurian howled, which was followed by a large chunk of earth and stone falling off the cliff.

Zhou Yan was stunned for a moment, then rushed over to pull Luo Futu up and look down at his face. Zhou Yan wanted to be sure he was okay— the fall he had just taken was not a light one, and he had been caught by the Lurian, but he didn’t know how he managed to get up!

Luo Futu raised his eyes and looked at Zhou Yan. The claws that were illusions of clear light on his hands suddenly shattered, and only then did he spit out a mouthful of blood violently before he plunged straight down to the ground.

“Hey!” Zhou Yan grabbed his sleeve and pulled Luo Futu into his arms. The latter’s black robe slipped off his shoulder, revealing the wound inside. His left shoulder to the collarbone was a blur of flesh and blood, as if the bones were exposed. Zhou Yan hugged him, holding Luo Futu’s face in his arms while trembling. “You crazy….”

He was so cruel to himself that he could jump up and deliver a fatal blow to the Lurian after receiving such a wound, and such a big movement would only aggravate the wound.

Luo Futu also could not speak, and he lay on top of Zhou Yan while grinning at him, revealing a mouth full of blood before his head tilted and he passed out.
