Chapter 5: McMahon Treaty

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

In a sense, Zhou Yan was actually a crazy person. No one’s first reaction to finding a corpse dropped into their house was to joyfully drag it into the basement to be dissected, much less to feel sorry when they find out the other person turned out not to be dead.

Even feel a little annoyed.

This guy was not dead, that proved that he not only could not use him as a large body for research, but also in the spirit of humanitarianism, needed to save his life.

What a loss.

Zhou Yan’s regret was too obvious, and apparently the corpse also felt this, his eyes became very harsh, staring viciously at Zhou Yan. Zhou Yan looked down at him expressionlessly, just about to say something, when suddenly, the corpse’s lips moved slightly, quickly reciting a string of inexplicable characters.

The string of characters sounded small, but intoned and staccato. It seemed to contain a lot of meaning, even a story, and some kind of power that could kill people.

Zhou Yan frowned, he even mistakenly felt a breeze blowing over, straight to his face.

However, nothing really happened.

Zhou Yan and the black-robed man lying on the operating table stared at each other in silence for a moment, feeling a hint of untraceable embarrassment.

Zhou Yan kept that facial expression, and when the black-robed man saw he was unresponsive, his hideous face showed an expression of surprise, that although subtle, was easily caught by Zhou Yan. He raised an eyebrow at the black-robed man. “It seems you don’t speak our language, are you a foreigner?”

Or an alien.

Because the information system of this world was so backward, even some common sense knowledge was not widely spread, Zhou Yan still hadn’t fully understood what the structure of the Zedoary Continent was like. How many countries? How many languages? How many races? How were the people between the different languages divided? He didn’t even know if there were other planets beyond this one.

Zhou Yan felt helpless for the first time at his own ignorance, he could not even find a way to learn.

The black-robed man didn’t say anything, and Zhou Yan just assumed he didn’t understand. He threw the surgical scissors onto the tray with a loud “bang” as the metal scissors hit the tray, and while removing the latex gloves with great force, Zhou Yan muttered to himself in frustration, “Foreigner, very good, foreigner. But it’s a pity that both foreigners and aliens look human, so I can’t do anything to you, huh? I really can’t do anything to you, seriously? Damn McMahon treaty, how long have you been out of military school, why are you still subject to this thing?”

Zhou Yan was angry, especially in this situation—he wanted to dissect a corpse that might be hiding a great secret, and this corpse suddenly came to life, so no matter how much he wanted to dissect this corpse, he had to stop.

Just because of the McMahon Treaty.

The McMahon Treaty, also known as the Binding Rule, was planted in Zhou Yan’s head when he first joined the military academy at Dense Cloud Planet, and it was an order that could never be disobeyed. The McMahon Treaty required all military students who were implanted with the order to never, under any circumstances, take the initiative to do anything harmful to society, otherwise the “order”, which was like a time bomb, would enter a self-destruct procedure, and Zhou Yan would become an idiot.

Planting an order in a student’s head sounds absurd, but it actually made sense. Geniuses like Zhou Yan, whose genetic optimization rate exceeded 99%, were very rare. If they were concentrated and carefully cultivated, the degree of excellence of these geniuses was immeasurable, and they could naturally contribute more to the country. But they were like double-edged swords, once such people wanted to do harm to society, then few people could control them—if they wanted to commit crimes, it would certainly be a high IQ crime above S level, so if there was no restraint, things would become very troublesome, and the entire society would be chaotic.

And so many years of big data statistics also proved the matter: the higher the IQ of the elite, the more prone to criminal tendencies, and it must always be given high priority.

This conclusion was not based on any science, only on reality.

Although Zhou Yan was among the group of people who were planted with the order, thinking rationally, he was still quite in favor of this practice, because sometimes he himself could feel that some of his ideas were actually quite dangerous, and if they were really put into action, he would definitely be shot on the spot by the instructor.

“McMahon Treaty?”

Zhou Yan was angry, suddenly heard the man lying on the operating bed softly repeating his words, and he was puzzled as he looked over. That brother’s ugly face was scrunching his eyebrows. “What is the McMahon treaty?”

“So you can talk, and what was that phrase you just said… What did you mean by that… gibberish?”

This man not only could speak, but also had an unexpectedly beautiful voice. His voice was very mismatched compared to his ugly appearance; his voice sounded gorgeous and elegant, although his tone of voice was not good, but revealed a noble temperament. This obvious contrast created a sense of incongruity and made Zhou Yan impressed hearing it.

Faced with Zhou Yan’s question, the black-robed man did not answer. He seemed to want to hear Zhou Yan answer his question first, but unfortunately, Zhou Yan was not willing to answer his question either.

“I don’t know exactly how you fell from the sky and landed in my courtyard, but since you survived your great disaster, then hurry up and leave. I don’t take in living people here.”

“Huh…” The black-robed man sneered, then struggled to hold up his body to sit up, but perhaps because he was severely injured, his movement was a bit slow, and he ended up just barely holding on to the operating table to sit against it.

Zhou Yan walked over to a chair and sat down when he heard the black robed man speak. “You mean you thought I was a corpse and brought me back?”

That’s true.

Zhou Yan shrugged. “You landed in my yard with blue fire all over your body, as if you had just been blitzed by a Gatling. I thought your bone phosphorus had burned in advance, which is very rare and a good research material for me.”

He looked up to see the ugly face of the black-robed man was a little twisted, and was only vaguely aware that wanting to dissect him was a little rude. So he reluctantly defended himself, saying, “I hope you do not mind, in fact, after death your body is not useful except to turn into fertilizer. But, in my hands, I can add important data for scientific progress.”

However, after listening to Zhou Yan’s explanation, the black-robed man not only did not understand him, but also looked more angry.

…He really wasn’t very good at explaining.

Zhou Yan wisely shut his mouth and got up to go to the medicine storage room to get an IV and water, but just as he walked into the medicine storage room, he heard a dull thud from outside, as if the pork hanging from the beam had hit the ground with a heavy thud.

Zhou Yan pushed the hanging rack out and saw the black-robed man fall under the operating table, completely immobilized. When he saw Zhou Yan approaching, he asked nonchalantly, “What did you do to me?”

Zhou Yan couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth. “What did I do to you? You did whatever it was to yourself.”

If he could have been quicker and really done something to him, he wouldn’t have wasted a great opportunity to dissect.

The black-robed man showed a puzzled expression, as if he had never experienced such a situation before, and Zhou Yan squatted down in front of him and looked at the black-robed man expressionlessly and said, “I’m going to get you into bed now, but you’d better be honest. Fall down again and you’ll sleep on the floor.”

“…”

Zhou Yan saw that he did not say anything, so he went over and put his two hands under his armpits and lifted the black-robed man upward with force—dead weight was heavy!

Zhou Yan gritted his teeth and pulled upwards, while growling in a low voice, “…Damn it! Don’t not move a muscle! Give me some strength!”

After exerting all his strength, Zhou Yan finally got the black-robed man back to the bed again, but his back was almost broken. Zhou Yan climbed up with a ragged breath, full of mockery. “Your body looks normal, but I didn’t expect it to be heavy as hell.”

The black-robed man, not to be outdone, laughed. “You are just as you appear…” he paused before spitting out a vicious word, “weak.”

Zhou Yan glanced at him with a cold face, pulled the IV rack over, then took the black-clothed man’s hand and rolled up his sleeve. After disinfecting it haphazardly, he inserted the needle rudely into his veins, and his attitude was a far cry from the last time he gave Bai Yueqing an injection. All he wanted to do was to throw him out.

The black-robed man frowned. “What are you doing?”

Zhou Yan was not in a good mood. “Giving you poison.”

The black-robed man grunted coldly and raised his hand to pull the needle out of his arm. Zhou Yan reflexively reached out and held the needle, and in this instant, the black-robed man fiercely lowered his head, and through inertia hit Zhou Yan hard on the top of his head.

This time the black-robed man put his best foot forward, and Zhou Yan was hit and saw gold stars in his eyes, and his entire body slid straight down against the surgical bed. The black-robed man did not have the strength to pull the needle in his arm, so he laid down directly on the bed and rolled, falling off the bed again, the needle inserted in his arm was also pulled out.

Zhou Yan held his head on the ground for a long time, before slowly coming back to his senses, he covered his head to get up with difficulty, could not help but burst out a foul curse, “Shit!”

The black-robed man did not have the strength to speak, but lay on the ground, his chest heaving sharply. His left arm was stabbed with a hole and his vein was gurgling out blood. Since he had rolled down, the blood splattered over his face, and now the blood on that ugly face was slowly flowing down, looking incomparable wretched. But in such a wretched situation, the black-robed man was still laughing, grinning provocatively as he looked at Zhou Yan, with a few moments of appalling madness in his eyes.

Zhou Yan could see from his expression that he knew his words about giving him poison were false, but still went against him. In the end, he was just unhappy that he could say he had poisoned him at will, which in his opinion was a very treacherous thing to do. Perhaps, since he used to be of high status and anyone who dared to act against him would die, he wanted to prove in this way that even if he was lying in bed and could not move, he could not control his body.

Zhou Yan surprisingly understood his boring pride all of a sudden.

But who cares.

Zhou Yan grabbed the medicine bottle that rolled at his feet and walked over to the bed, and then slammed it into the black-robed man’s face so hard that the glass bottle squeezed his entire face into a sinkhole. He was furious. “Are you gambling with me? You think I’m your father, pouting at me? Look carefully, this is glucose, it’s for energy. You ignorant neanderthal! You can pull out the needle all you want, you have countless chances to kill yourself this night, and by the way, I’m very much looking forward to your death. When you turn into a corpse, I’ll dissect you immediately!”

The black-robed man’s face was squeezed out of shape, looking very funny, and he stared coldly at Zhou Yan without saying a word, quite stubbornly. Zhou Yan also did not talk to him, re-inserted the needle and turned away. He was not going to care about this obnoxious patient! If he liked to sleep on the floor so much, let him sleep there all night! If he wanted to pull out the needle, let him do it! But he won’t come over to see him again tonight!

  1. I love this story and its wit.
The black robed man (who I thought was de-robed, but maybe dressed again, since he’s not dead), thinks ZY is weak; so is he a superior evolved human, or a mage of some kind, or an alien? Or a mix?
    Can’t wait to find out.
Thank you both for translating and editing.
