(Addis note: The title is the same name as an anime that I really like!)
Zhou Yan did not find the truth he wanted, always stored things in his heart, sleepless at night, and woke up very early the next morning. He wanted to go through the ancient books again, perhaps he did not read carefully enough. He did not find the key information, so he decided to go back again and try to find clues again.
Zhou Yan gently got up, Luo Futu beside him was not asleep, directly reached out and wrapped his arm around his waist and swept Zhou Yan back, lowered his head and leaned towards his neck.
“Where are you going so early?”
Zhou Yan struggled a few times in Luo Futu’s arms and found that he could not break free, so he tilted his head to look at him, “I’ll go check the books again, you sleep.”
Luo Futu yawned and tried to sit up, “I’ll go with you.”
“No, you rest, I’ll be back soon.”
These days Luo Futu also began to prepare for the implementation of the New Deal. He was also very tired, he always said he did not need to sleep, but that is “no”, he can not sleep, so busy for a long time, more sleep for him was always good.
Zhou Yan finished staring at him, “You and I are not children, we don’t need to stick together all day long.”
Luo Futu smiled a little, he hugged Zhou Yan and kissed him hard on the lips, “Then you go and come back quickly.”
Zhou Yan subconsciously pursed his lips, behaving like a cat being forcibly pet, reluctant. Luo Futu saw him like this, so he inhaled hard on his face again – he just likes forcibly petting cats.
Then he was disliked.
Zhou Yan “swished” his arm away from Luo Futu’s arms, and then quickly slipped away.
The place they lived now was really big, and there was a house in the backyard that was under construction to be built for Zhou Yan’s lab, and Luo Futu had carefully built him a basement that could be slowly converted into a lab in the future. In fact, Zhou Yan mentioned to him that he should grant himself a piece of land to build a research institute – now the focus was still on agriculture, but in the future, the fields of science, medicine, and education should be developed gradually.
Zhou Yan had a long-term view, and everything had to be done slowly.
But then he met someone on his way to the book collection. At first, Zhou Yan just saw someone lying on a very high stone in the small garden, and he didn’t know what he was doing. Could it be that he was sleeping? Zhou Yan was about to walk over, but the person who was lying there suddenly rolled over and rolled straight down from the stone.
Zhou Yan was startled and rushed over to see if the person was okay. Zhou Yan got closer and realized that the person was actually the right protector.
…
So why let him bump into things, now it is not too late to pretend not to see and hurry away? Anyway, mystics can’t die from falling.
The person lying on the ground suddenly grunted, turned over, and the soft wrist rested on Zhou Yan’s foot.
… He couldn’t walk now.
Zhou Yan sighed deeply and bent down to help the right protector up, and was greeted by a smell of alcohol that almost made Zhou Yan faint.
It didn’t matter if it’s a male alpha or a female alpha, there were always people who liked to get into the habit of smoking and drinking.
But she drank too much, and fell down.
In fact, Zhou Yan saw Mu Lian’s wrong, in his eyes she was a very valiant woman, yesterday that expression should not appear on her face. But at that time Zhou Yan did not want to care about this matter, and it had nothing to do with themselves.
Zhou Yan wanted to help Mu Lian up, but the latter was not conscious at all, so Zhou Yan had to drag her directly to the stone table and let her lie on it. Mu Lian was holding a wine jug in her hand, and Zhou Yan took a look at it, suddenly remembering that Luo Futu would often drink to the moon outside the window.
…
This could be a reserved program of their mystic faction?
Zhou Yan was ready to leave after he got her on the table, but he heard the right protector mutter, “Worker Zhou, why are you wandering around in the middle of the night, let this servant send you back…”
Zhou Yan froze, then saw the right protector who was lying on the table suddenly propped up on the table and wobbled up, seemingly wanting to “escort” him back.
Zhou Yan looked at her with a deep sigh and said helplessly, “It’s already early in the morning, Right Protector. Well, you can sit down.”
Now this situation, Zhou Yan also cannot afford to leave, Mu Lian was so drunk and still remembered to send him back, if he just left her alone, it would seem too heartless.
Zhou Yan shook his head helplessly and sat down opposite Mu Lian, “You’re not going to drink all night here alone, are you? It hurts your body.”
The right protector smiled and raised her eyes to look at Zhou Yan, her eyes were very good looking, she could be described as charming. Zhou Yan looked at her and could not help but smile – the right protector was not like an alpha, but like a delicate little girl.
“This servant was in a bad mood, so I wanted to look at the moon for a while. Who knew that it would take all night to look at it.”
Zhou Yan did not expect Mu Lian to say so directly, is it because of the wine? The reason for this was the wine, which made Mu Lian put down her guard for a while… In fact, Zhou Yan understood in his heart that although Mu Lian usually seemed to be respectful to him, it was only superficially respectful, completely because of Luo Futu’s face. However, today, she suddenly wanted to make friends with him.
But Zhou Yan still dutifully acted as a listener, “Why are you in a bad mood?”
Mu Lian propped up her jaw with one hand, pouted and sighed slightly, “This servant’s follower was snatched away by an Omega. And he was so willing…”
A follower? Is the left protector just a follower?
Zhou Yan slightly twitched the corner of his mouth, “Then you should just get him back.”
Mu Lian’s eyes opened wide and stared at Zhou Yan, Zhou Yan was waiting for her to speak, but two lines of tears suddenly welled up in Mu Lian’s eyes, without warning, streamed down from the face with a “whoosh”.
“It’s impossible… He will not come back. Although he and this servant are close during the day, but his heart is far away, this servant has never found…”
Zhou Yan knew who she was talking about. Mu Lian’s voice trembled slightly with reluctance and helplessness, but her tears were limited, only those two lines were shed. The sad expression could no longer be seen on her face, she seemed to have recovered. But Zhou Yan was not deceived by her acting skills, even he could see that Mu Lian’s feelings for Zuo Guofu were not at all those of a follower, let alone a mere playmate…. Mu Lian was usually quite perspicacious, but when it came to herself, she didn’t want to admit it.
Mu Lian did not speak, tilted her head holding the wine jug to pour wine into her mouth. Zhou Yan frowned, originally wanted to snatch the wine jug away from her hand, but after thinking about it, and feeling that this action would be too ambiguous, not suitable for them to do, so he finally gave up.
Zhou Yan frowned, also not quite able to bear this look of the right protector.
“Right Protector is not like the left Protector, you can perhaps try to be more frank.”
Mu Lian did not look up, lying on the table humming a laugh. She whispered, “How is it possible, this servant hates him more than that. It’s just… I didn’t think someone like Zuo Guofu would fall in love with someone. He said he would serve the Spiritual Master together in this life and wanted nothing else, but he had mortal feelings first.”
She finished and sneered once again, raised her face to stare at Zhou Yan, “Worker Zhou, do you think there is really no way to break this routine, it is impossible for an Alpha not to like an Omega…”
Zhou Yan shook his head, but finally reached out and snatched the jug out of Mu Lian’s hand, “How could it be, look at yourself, you don’t like an Omega. And when technology develops to a certain level, pheromones will really mean nothing, there are many ways to control it…. . pheromones can be manipulated by humans, what is really difficult to manipulate is the human heart.”
The right protector heard this, first froze, then slowly nodded, “It makes sense, it’s not about pheromone at all, it’s his heart that changed, he just simply had a heartbeat.”
Zhou Yan heard her say this, suddenly felt as if he had said the wrong thing, he said this was not telling Mu Lian, Zuo Guofu liked Bai Yueqing himself, was happy to like, and it had nothing to do with pheromone at all.
…
Shit, is this comforting or is it burying people?
Zhou Yan was so disappointed with himself that he simply shut his mouth.
Mu Lian didn’t care whether Zhou Yan said anything or not, she took a look at the jug of wine he had taken away and smiled charmingly at Zhou Yan, “Worker Zhou, thank you for talking with me so much.”
“No… It’s okay.”
Zhou Yan’s heart was weak, he really did not deserve to accept Mu Lian’s thanks, and even began to regret accompanying Mu Lian to talk. People have to do things according to their ability, he also overestimated himself…
Zhou Yan was silent for half a day and suddenly stood up, “I still have things to do, the right protector also seems to have sobered up, go back quickly.”
Mu Lian did not see the thoughts of Zhou Yan’s heart, so she waved her hand towards him, “Worker Zhou is busy, do not worry about me.”
Zhou Yan, as if he had been pardoned, immediately stood up and ran away in a flash.
Just a chance encounter with Mu Lian was like a hiccup. Zhou Yan was soon fully engaged in the books, he carefully searched the books, any word involving “boundary” or “outside” and so on, all was read by Zhou Yan word by word. But unfortunately, there was really no mention of boundaries in the records.
Zhou Yan frowned in disappointment and put the book he was holding back on the bookshelf. Just as he was trying to put the other books back, something suddenly fell from the upper shelf and hit Zhou Yan’s feet.
Zhou Yan subconsciously looked down, but it turned out to be a parchment-like scroll, which he hadn’t found when he was going through the books with Luo Futu last time.
Zhou Yan picked it up and took a deep breath nervously – could there be an answer he wanted on it?
Whether there was or not, this parchment was the only ancient book that hadn’t been opened, so there must be some clues to be found.
Zhou Yan held his breath and carefully unfolded the parchment one layer at a time, and then he found that there were no words written on the parchment, only a faint painting. The picture was not very clear, Zhou Yan looked carefully for a long time, before he could see what the picture was.
There was a simple semicircle on the picture, and beyond the semicircle, there was a group of monsters with blurred faces and twisted bodies, and within the semicircle, there was a group of people in robes holding up their hands in a propping motion.
Zhou Yan finally realized what the meaning of this painting is – if the semicircle refers to the boundary, then the meaning of this painting has at least conveyed a message that the mystics have used the boundary to fight against Lurian.
Or that it was Lurian who lived beyond the boundary.

Thanks for the chapter!
I don’t think Mu Lian likes Zuo Guofo in a romantic way; I think it’s more about the thought of losing her long-time partner (in a ‘work’ sense) and the fact he had his heart moved, which she never contemplated happening. She’d taken it for granted he’d always be around, like her.
I don’t think ZY said anything inappropriate. She needed to be made to think.
Thank you both for the chapter.
