Lin Nuo didn’t have the strength to lift his head anymore. In the moment he was pulled out of the water, feeling that faint icy aura and a vague sense of oppression, he already knew who had rescued him.
Indeed, the young man who had just been frightened out of his wits stammered, “C-Clement…? Is that Sir Clement?”
Rennes remained silent, which was a tacit confirmation.
The noblewoman stared at the small creature in Rennes’ hand, nervous but excitedly asking, “Is the little creature in your hand, by any chance, a pet of Your Excellency’s?”
After a brief pause, Rennes replied with a simple, “Yes.”
“Ah, I see! So it’s your pet! No wonder it’s so cute! Pink! Small! And it even has tiny wings!” exclaimed the noblewoman.
Ignoring the two of them, Rennes carried his ‘pet’ away from the backyard illuminated by moonlight. Behind him, the two nobles stared with wide eyes, watching the knight’s departure. Once Rennes had gone far enough, the noblewoman whispered, “To see Sir Rennes Clement here… He’s really handsome…”
The young nobleman mumbled, “Indeed, seeing Sir Clement… Even his pet is so unique.”
Glancing at the disheveled young man, the noblewoman huffed, “Tsk, you got scared by someone else’s pet. You even lost your sword. You’re really brave.”
With that, the noblewoman adjusted her dress, raised her head high, and walked away without looking back.
—
Lin Nuo lay in Rennes’ hand, motionless. He knew he should jump down and run away, flap his wings to escape, and stay far away. But he found himself unable to move once again. What’s worse, this person’s palm carried a refreshing coolness that made staying there more comfortable than in the water, robbing him of any desire to resist. He even instinctively wanted to get closer.
So, after running in circles for a month, he still ended up being captured by the knight? Helpless, Lin Nuo could only emit a low chirp from his throat, expressing his frustration and despair.
In response, Rennes raised his other hand and gently stroked Lin Nuo’s back, then said, “Don’t cry.”
Lin Nuo immediately fell silent, and Rennes carried on, eventually bringing him back to the knight’s room. Lin Nuo never thought he would return to this room again. A month had passed, and the furnishings remained unchanged, except for two coins scattered on the small round table where the beast cage had sat.
Coins! Lin Nuo widened his eyes in an attempt to move. If he could, he would probably rush towards the coins without hesitation. Unfortunately, he could only twitch his nose and pray that Rennes would place him closer to the coins.
Perhaps the gods heard his prayer. Rennes did place him on the table again! Great! This time, Rennes didn’t head to the bathroom. Instead, he sat at the round table and, with a gentle lift, turned Lin Nuo over.
Lin Nuo suddenly found himself upside down, exposing his soft white belly to the light. Rennes’ gaze started from the dragon’s neck, slowly sweeping down, briefly pausing between the hind legs. Realizing what Rennes was looking at, Lin Nuo felt a deep sense of embarrassment and covered that area with his tail.
“Hmm? You can move?” Rennes asked.
Lin Nuo was surprised; could he move? He tried to wave his paws or turn over, but the only movable parts were his tail and mouth. He made a small chirping sound of discontent and kept his tail firmly in place.
Fortunately, Rennes didn’t attempt to pick him up again or play with his tail. Instead, he raised Lin Nuo’s right paw and asked, “Injured?”
Uh, why does this scene feel so familiar? Does this guy like to heal other creatures? To Lin Nuo’s ears, Rennes’ voice sounded much softer now, almost tender. Examining Lin Nuo’s burned paw, Rennes blew gently on it and then pressed his fingertip against the wound.
In an instant, the burning pain in the right paw vanished, replaced by a cool and refreshing sensation. It felt so cool… so comfortable…
Lin Nuo felt like a traveler stranded in a scorching desert who suddenly found a big ice cube falling from the sky. The relief was beyond description. After healing Lin Nuo’s burned paw, Rennes didn’t withdraw his hand. Instead, he covered Lin Nuo’s entire body with his palm, using it as an ice pack.
Gradually, Lin Nuo’s skin, which had turned red from the heat, returned to its pale pink color.
Watching Lin Nuo’s skin return to normal, Rennes reached for a cup and spoon from the silver cabinet, used a seashell spoon to fetch a few drops of water, and brought it to Lin Nuo’s small mouth.
Water! Lin Nuo obediently opened his mouth, allowing the spoon to deliver the clear water. Since his mouth was too flat, he couldn’t drink all the water in the spoon, and some droplets dripped down, wetting his chin.
Embarrassing… but whatever, he thought. Given his current state, why care about embarrassment? What was the knight planning to do? A creature that had escaped him for a month was finally caught again. Was Rennes planning to feed him for a few days and then start some kind of research?
Lin Nuo recalled the noblewoman’s question about whether the creature was Rennes’ pet and Rennes’ ambiguous response. Pet. Mn, a pet.
It seems like a cold and distant paladin has a secret hobby of collecting strange & unique little creatures to keep as pets in secret? Lin Nuo, flipped over, tried hard to focus on Rennes’ face but, due to the angle, could only see the elegant jawline and straight, slender neck of the man.
Seeing Lin Nuo struggling, Rennes gently pressed his belly, whispering softly, “Don’t be afraid.” In his voice was a gentleness that Lin Nuo had never experienced before.
Despite being immobilized by this person’s presence, nearly turned into a specimen, just having recovered from an inexplicable fever and almost being swallowed by a giant crow, Lin Nuo found this person’s unexpectedly gentle voice to be calming. He couldn’t help but wonder why this person was so tender towards this creature when he was usually so ruthless towards him as a human. He had never received a kind word despite being constantly beaten up. Even during the wound treatment this afternoon, this person had teased him a few times!
Hmph. Thinking about the treatment he received as a dragon compared to his treatment as a human, Lin Nuo felt it was unfair and emitted a dissatisfied chirping sound from his throat.
At this moment, he heard Rennes sigh lightly, saying, “Sleep.”
But I don’t want to sleep! I want to take the soonest opportunity to escape! But, I’m so tired… Why am I so tired… The irresistible drowsiness surged from the depths of his body. Lin Nuo soon fell asleep, even relaxing his tail. Rennes covered the sleeping little dragon with a handkerchief and then left the room.
—
At 4 AM, the moon was obscured by clouds, the darkest hour.
Baron Duval, Lin Nuo’s meal steward, sat neatly in his room, his chin resting on his hand, his leg shaking incessantly. He had listened at Lin Nuo’s door for a long time, but the wooden door had excellent soundproofing, and he heard nothing. Lin Nuo hadn’t shouted or pressed the bell. Had he fallen asleep?
After all, he had eaten that black dessert, and the person who brought it also ate one in front of him. The dessert contained a special sweet wine. Consuming it would cause a feverish sensation, needing relief, but it wasn’t deadly. According to the person who brought it, his master was only planning to tease the uninitiated little prince, not harm him. So, the worst it would be was feeling feverish and uncomfortable all over; there shouldn’t be anything else, right? If something happened and it was discovered that I had replaced his meal and gave him this dessert, would I… survive?
As Baron Duval fretted, the window, which had been securely shut from the inside, suddenly creaked open on its own. A cold draft rushed in, causing the curtains to flutter against the wall. It’s so cold… It’s already April, so why is it so cold?
Baron Duval shivered and went to close the window, but he recoiled in fear— There stood a tall figure by the window, emitting a chilling aura in the darkness. He wanted to scream, to beg for mercy, but before a sound escaped his throat, the chill locked his voice.

This Rennes seems very different to the story LN was illustrating!
Now Otto will be for it, assuming Rennes can trace it back to him.
EDIT: why has he gone to LN’s room? He must suspect he’s the little dragon.
Thank you all for the chapter.
Oh yeah, Rennes is chill to the whole thing. And he likes the little pink dragon, but no peeking below the waist just yet or you are a pervy knight. 😏
