Chapter 34: Unexpected

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

At the end of the passage, just as Rennes described, there truly was a ‘lake’. Beneath a dark blue dome, there lay a sparkling lake; the shores were lined with various colorful and dazzling crystals. Upon closer inspection, one would notice that the ‘water’ in this lake consisted of countless tiny points of light. The shimmering on the lake’s surface was not a reflection but rather the light emitted by these points themselves.

While it appeared tranquil, this place was actually bustling.

Lin Nuo’s ears were filled with voices, “Wow! These are the Clement and Heinrich descendants!”

“Wow, this Heinrich looks so cute! Hehehe…”

“Indeed, so adorable. I wish I could peel off his clothes…”

“What are they here for?”

“I heard from the Guardian that the Heinrich’s body’s magical mark was damaged, and they came for healing.”

“Ah? Is the whole magical mark in his body damaged? Does that mean he needs to take off his clothes…”

These voices must belong to the crystal creatures by the lake. Perhaps due to being a different species from the crystal creatures in the collecting field outside, the words spoken by these crystal creatures were more aggressive. But Lin Nuo had no interest in listening to their chatter right now. His eyes were fixed on the light lake in front of him.

He needed to hurry, dive into the lake, and repair his mark!

Holding hands, the two hurried to the lakeshore. Just as Lin Nuo was about to step in, Rennes held him back, “Your Highness, if you feel any discomfort later…”

Lin Nuo gritted his teeth, staring at Rennes’s pale and tense face, and uttered two words through clenched teeth, “Shut it.”

Even though Rennes was in intense pain, hearing Lin Nuo so audaciously contradict him made him raise an eyebrow.

As Lin Nuo stepped into the ‘water’, he glared fiercely at Rennes with all his might while advancing. Once I’m done fixing this, once I’m out of here, I must question why this person did this! Hmph!

In Rennes’s eyes, the determined gaze of the young prince looked more like that of a fierce kitten, waving its paws and emitting meows from its throat while glaring with bright eyes and puffing out its round cheeks. Whether this posture was a threat or a lure was unclear.

Lin Nuo initially thought the lake would be deep, but upon stepping in, he realized the water, or rather these dots of light, only reached his shins. As he stepped in, ripples spread across the surface. The dark blue dots under his feet vaporized like mist, slowly rising, twisting, and swirling upward along his legs, gradually enveloping his body.

The place enveloped by this misty light felt unusually soft, like the first gentle rain of spring on long-frozen soil, gradually softening the stiff ground. Lin Nuo felt a bit absent-minded, reminiscent of the feeling he had when lying in Rennes’s palm. This mist, containing what Rennes described as primal magic… Was this magic doing the same thing Rennes did before, aiding in my healing?

At that moment, Rennes, who had been standing at the shore, also stepped into the lake. He firmly held Lin Nuo’s hand without any intention of letting go. Once Rennes stepped into the lake, the dark blue dots beneath his feet, instead of enveloping him like they did Lin Nuo, swirled in place and then, with a splash, retreated far away.

Lin Nuo looked puzzled by this scene, wondering what was happening.

Fortunately, the chattering crystal creatures nearby gave Lin Nuo the answers.

“Oh my, oh my, the magic power within the Clement is too strong, scaring away even primal magic. Haha.”

“Wow, is this the kind of magic a human can possess? It’s amazing…”

“I heard that if a human’s magical power is extremely strong, they become especially enduring and hard to satisfy during mating.”

!! What, what, what are these creatures saying?! These creatures are too perverted! Lin Nuo, surrounded by the light mist, blushed in embarrassment, unable to lift his head to look at Rennes. Thankfully, I’m the only one who understands what these creatures are saying. Otherwise, it would be so embarrassing for Rennes. Ahem, I just hope these creatures aren’t saying something true? Rennes really… um, in that aspect, is he really…? What am I thinking?! My impure mind! This genre is supposed to be children’s literature!! If I think too much, the System will pop up again!

Lin Nuo shook his head, forcing himself not to think about bizarre scenes. At this moment, Lin Nuo wasn’t looking at Rennes’s expression turning unnatural, still holding his hand.

After calming down a bit, Lin Nuo finally lifted his head to look at Rennes’s face. What he saw made his heart sink. If Rennes’s face before entering the Starry Dream was just pale & ugly, now, his originally exquisite and beautiful face had turned ghastly pale.

But what upset Lin Nuo the most were Rennes’s eyes. Rennes stared blankly ahead, not blinking. In those usually deep black eyes akin to a universe full of stars, there was only emptiness.

“Oh my, oh my,” the creatures sighed.

“The Guardian said that the Clement is enduring the pressure of the Heinrich’s magic. It must be super, super, super painful.”

“Even the toughest Clement can’t endure this kind of pain forever!”

“Tsk tsk, if the Clement continues to suffer like this, will he pass out or end up going crazy?”

Lin Nuo, distressed, closed his eyes, trying to recall some horrifying scenes. He had planned that once the repair had begun, he would do everything possible to make his heart race. The faster his heart beat, the shorter the repair time— Once the repair was completed, Rennes wouldn’t have to suffer for him anymore.

Horrifying scenes… The first time he was caught by Rennes, scared stiff, thinking he was done for. How terrifying! But why did my heart only slightly speed up then and not go crazy with fear? The second time, a sudden fever in the palace, uncontrollably transforming into his dragon shape, then almost being eaten by a giant crow. Ah, it was quite frightening, but didn’t Rennes come to my rescue?

No, that’s not enough. Then, on the journey together, almost falling off the horse in front of him, so thrilling! But later, didn’t I stay quite comfortably at his mansion? The more Lin Nuo thought, the more frustrated he became. So, there aren’t any memories that can make my heart rate skyrocket now?!

His handsome features scrunched up in a frown as he tried hard to remember the last time his heart raced. It seemed… when he just jumped down, lying on top of Rennes, in a somewhat awkward position, his heart was beating extremely fast then, right? Also, in the carriage, when Rennes’s fingers entwined with his; he didn’t know if Rennes did it to alleviate his pain, but his heart was about to leap out of his chest, wasn’t it? And further back, on the carriage again, Rennes’s voice was hoarse, saying if I were his pet cat, he could do this and that…

Ahem. Understood. I know how to make the heartbeat faster.

Lin Nuo turned sideways, reached out with the hand not holding onto Rennes, placing it on Rennes’ upper arm, and leaned forward, perfectly fitting into Rennes’s embrace.

In initially vacant eyes, a glint of clarity returned, mixed with a hint of surprise. Rennes struggled to lower his head, gazing at Lin Nuo’s soft hair, his voice hoarse, “You…”

With a face flushed red, Lin Nuo buried it in the crook of Rennes’s neck, earnestly stating, “I’m trying to figure out how to make my heart beat faster! So please, don’t speak! Save your energy!”

Hence, Rennes truly didn’t speak again, simply sealing his lips tightly, gazing at the little prince in his arms. Although Rennes remained silent, the crystal creatures on the shore began to cheer:

“Ah-woo, ah-woo! It’s a hug! It’s a hug!”

“Two beautiful people hugging each other; it looks so nice!”

“Oh, the speed at which the primal magic is flowing seems to have increased, doesn’t it?”

Huh? Increased? Lin Nuo didn’t feel it distinctly, but with his accelerated heartbeat, the mist surrounding him seemed warmer. Indeed, it was effective!

Lin Nuo’s left hand couldn’t help but grip Rennes’s arm while pressing his face closer. A few minutes later, despite his heart thudding persistently, the temperature of the mist did not rise any further. This…

“Ah, ah, the primal magic has adapted to his heartbeat. If he wants it to go faster, he’ll have to make his heartbeat even faster!”

“Hehe, I wonder what method this Heinrich will use next? I heard that during the most intense moments of copulation humans’ heartbeats can get terrifyingly fast.”

Lin Nuo’s already reddened face now burned entirely. What nonsense were these creatures blabbering about? Copulation and such— Was that something that could start just like that?

Meanwhile, Rennes, whose complexion had already turned pallid due to suppressing pain, now appeared even more peculiar.

At that moment, amidst the noisy crystal creatures, a particularly clear voice sounded out, “Oh, at this rate, it’ll probably take about an hour in human time to completely restore.”

An hour?! Another hour of agony for Rennes?!

“If the Heinrich’s heartbeat can speed up a bit more, maybe he can reduce the time to half an hour.”

Lin Nuo took a deep breath and lifted his head from Rennes’s shoulder. He freed the arm that had been holding Rennes’s and wrapped it instead around Rennes’ neck. Then, he closed his eyes, lifted his face, and bumped into Rennes’s face—

Yes, he bumped into it. His lips collided with something soft and warm. A gentle breath, a cold fragrance, rushed towards him, causing Lin Nuo’s breathing to become erratic, and his entire face to burn. His heartbeat suddenly reached an unbelievable speed.

This time, Lin Nuo clearly felt the warm mist enveloping him, which had never ceased, suddenly strengthened. He vaguely felt that, with the penetration of this warmth, his body was undergoing tremendous changes. But he couldn’t focus on how Rennes might feel. He could only subconsciously part his lips slightly to welcome the equally tender touch, wanting to make more contact, feel more…

In a daze, he heard the cries of the creatures, “Wow! They’re kissing! They’re kissing!”

“Ah, it’s almost done! Supreme God, his magical mark repair is about to be completed!”

Almost done? That phrase made Lin Nuo somewhat sober. Once the repair was completed, Rennes could—

Before this thought could fully form in his mind, a sharp and piercing alarm sounded: [Warning! Warning! Scene detected unsuitable for children’s literature! Host is requested to immediately cease this behavior and accept corresponding punishment. Punishment includes a mild electric shock to the host and a deduction of two gold coins carried by the host. Punishment countdown initiated: 10, 9, 8…]

What?? Stop this behavior?! At this crucial moment when the magical repair was almost complete?! What’s this punishment about? And an electric shock, plus deduction of gold coins?! Those are my precious coins earned by turning into a pet and letting Rennes pinch my tail! The System wants to casually ‘deduct’ them?! If two coins suddenly disappear, I might again face insufficient magic to maintain my human form! The System is going too far! This is unreasonable!

Lin Nuo swiftly snapped out of the infinitely romantic state, feeling anxious and furious, arguing vehemently with the System in his mind, System! What inappropriate behavior did I display?! I completely disagree with your unjust punishment!

*beep-beep* [System detected that you were about to engage in kissing or even attempting to solicit deeper contact. Such scenes, when transformed into text, cannot be recommended for children’s literature under the rating system.]

Lin Nuo became even more furious and exclaimed, You’re talking nonsense! What kissing, what soliciting! I was only trying to alleviate his pain! Do I have to watch him suffer in front of my eyes?! System, please think carefully. The scene just now, when transformed into text, would be ‘The prince, in order to alleviate the knight’s pain, tried every means with the help of creatures to hasten the magical repair.’ May I ask, which part of this text doesn’t meet the requirements of children’s literature?! And, even if it was a kiss, a genuine one, what’s wrong with that? Snow White kissed. The Little Mermaid kissed. Kisses are all over fairy tales; why can’t there be a kiss?!

The System fell silent for a while, finally stating, [The host’s explanation holds some validity. Considering that some hosts intentionally use vague language to influence the System’s judgment, further verification is necessary.]

Huh? Verification? How do they verify this?

[If the host’s subsequent explanation to Clement aligns with the explanation given to the System, the System will accept the host’s version.]

Just then, the mist swirling around Lin Nuo gradually descended into the lake. The crystal creatures on the shore boiled with excitement, exclaiming, “It’s done, it’s done! The Heinrich’s repair is completed!”

“Oh? So fast?! Will they keep kissing? I wanted to see them kiss more passionately!”

“Wah, I want to see too! I want them to kiss even more intensely!”

Aware that the repair was completed, Lin Nuo stepped back, breaking the ‘connection’ with Rennes. He stared at Rennes in a daze and said, “It seems like the repair is complete?”

While speaking, he released the arm wrapped around Rennes’s neck and withdrew his hand from Rennes’s palm. This time, Rennes didn’t stop him nor hold onto his hand, allowing Lin Nuo to completely disengage from him. Lin Nuo couldn’t focus on understanding any changes in his own body. He anxiously looked at Rennes—

Perhaps Clement’s physical resilience was truly incomparable to an ordinary person’s. In just half a minute, Rennes, who had appeared pale from the pain, had now returned to his original fair complexion. The tightly knitted brow and pursed lips gradually relaxed. He lowered his head slightly, looking at Lin Nuo, about to speak, but Lin Nuo cut in first, “Teacher! The behavior just now, uh, that behavior was just, just to speed up the repair time! The Guardian said that the faster the heartbeat, the shorter the repair time, right? I couldn’t think of any other method at the moment, so I used this one. I didn’t mean to kiss you! Oh no, that didn’t even count as a kiss. I had no intention of offending you! You… Please consider that as an accident!”

The little prince, his eyes reddened at the edges & his face full of awkwardness, used a slightly hoarse voice and the most serious tone to repeatedly emphasize to the knight: it was just an accident. He had no other intentions!

A hint of helplessness flickered in Rennes’ eyes. He reached out, grasping the smooth chin of the little prince, and said in a deep voice, “I understand. There’s no need to repeat it so many times.”

Ha. The little prince’s face was held by Rennes, and, as he stared blankly at this person, he thought: He says he understands, but will the System agree?

As if to respond to his query, the System spoke up, [The host’s behavior has been confirmed to be reasonable and compliant with the requirements of children’s literature. The System will revoke the decision to punish the host.]

Upon hearing this, Lin Nuo breathed a sigh of relief but quickly exclaimed,  Oh right! There’s an important plot point! I’m supposed to be transformed from the dragon clan, right? Why do all the creatures recognize me as a Heinrich? And why is there a magic mark inside me? What’s the deal with it being broken? What kind of colossal mistake is this?

The System vanished again, refusing to reply even a single word.

Lin Nuo was furious, thinking, This lousy System, besides watching for any indecency, it ignores everything else?! Not even an explanation for such a huge BUG?!

Without knowing what drama was playing out in Lin Nuo’s mind, Rennes, who could only see Lin Nuo’s face alternately flushing and paling, displayed an extremely captivating expression. He released his grip on Lin Nuo’s chin, saying, “Rest assured. I won’t misunderstand.”

Though Rennes’ tone was calm, for some reason, Lin Nuo felt that Rennes seemed… angry. Uh… Despite the open-minded atmosphere in the court and the presence of ‘face-to-face etiquette’ among close people, this cold and ever elusive knight probably didn’t appreciate casual kisses? Now, for the sake of treating my magic mark, he endured excruciating pain and then received an inexplicable kiss from me. It’s normal for him to be angry, right?

The more Lin Nuo thought about it, the more guilty he felt. Wanting to explain further but unsure how to do it, he awkwardly changed the subject, “Is the ‘imprint’ inside me completely repaired?”

“Yes,” Rennes responded as he stepped out of the lake. “We should head back. If we leave now, we can still reach the Divine City today.”

“Oh, okay,” Lin Nuo hurriedly followed suit.

As soon as the two set foot on the shore, the sparkling crystals nearby suddenly shone brightly:

“Ah, they’re leaving, sob.”

“So reluctant to see them go.”

“Shall we give them a gift as a farewell present?”

As the creatures spoke, numerous crystals descended like petals, avoiding Lin Nuo and Rennes and neatly arranging themselves in front of them, forming a few words: ‘Gift for you’

Lin Nuo was left stunned, blurting out, “Why are they still giving us gifts?”

If he heard correctly, the creatures had just mentioned something about a gift? What was there to celebrate? The creatures didn’t answer but instead emitted meaningful hehe and haha sounds, making Lin Nuo’s heart shiver.

Fortunately, Rennes picked up one crystal and said, “These are the most precious kind of elemental crystal and extremely difficult to collect. They actually gave us so many; it seems they really like Your Highness.”

Lin Nuo couldn’t explain anything and could only respond awkwardly. Rennes’s slender fingers swiftly danced, summoning a space in the air and placing all the crystals on the ground into it. After securing the crystals, he turned to Lin Nuo and said, “Later, I will teach Your Highness how to use the magic inside you and command these crystals.”

Lin Nuo listened while carefully observing Rennes’s expression. At first glance, there was no difference in Rennes’s tone or demeanor from when he was teaching. Lin Nuo still felt something was off.

Hesitating for a while, Lin Nuo finally managed to spit out a few words, “Um, sorry?”

Rennes’s figure stiffened, pausing in place. He slowly turned around, furrowing his brow, and looked at Lin Nuo, asking, “Sorry?”

Lin Nuo’s chest drummed like a heartbeat, not slower than before. He blushed and stammered, “Because, um, even though it was an emergency, even though it was an accident, but, um, I didn’t seek your consent before, um, that… kiss…Eh?!”

Lin Nuo couldn’t finish his sentence. Rennes once again lifted his chin in his hand, closed his eyes slightly, and sealed Lin Nuo’s lips with his warm ones. What’s happening? Wait, is the System going to punish me again?!

As the sensation on his lips continued to spread and Rennes’s tongue teased and explored, Lin Nuo gradually forgot these concerns. His mind exploded into a riot of colors, much like the petal-like crystal rain earlier.

After a long while, Rennes finally released his hand, and his slightly elongated eyes stared unblinkingly at Lin Nuo, who was already dazed. He reached out his clean, slender fingers, pressing at the corner of Lin Nuo’s now moist lips, softly saying, “Alright, I didn’t seek your consent either. Now, with one ‘accident’ each, we’re even.”

Hahaha the crystals are so perverted. They want to see Linnuo naked! 🤣
The system is so cunning! If Linnuo’s the one who initiate the kiss, it was off children’s story. But if Rennes did, it was okay? 🤣
