Chapter 91: Conversation

Through the porthole, Tang Ce looked at the massive creature floating on the sea surface and couldn’t help but say, “This thing is really abnormal! However, it seems like this is the only type of creature on this planet, right? I haven’t seen any other fish in the ocean. How does it survive?”

Zhu Tianyi speculated, “Perhaps it doesn’t need to eat, it survives on light and water?”

Human understanding of these galactic creatures is actually very limited. This monster was also a species that had never been seen in the database.

Qin Xiao looked thoughtfully at the monster in the sea and suddenly said, “Lower the starship by one hundred meters, I want to communicate with it.”

Zhao Feng, who was controlling the starship, hesitated and nervously said, “Marshal, the current altitude of the starship is very safe. If we lower it by one hundred meters, what if it attacks us again?”

Qin Xiao calmly said, “Activate the defense shield and do it quickly.”

Seeing his firm attitude, Zhao Feng had to follow his orders and swiftly maneuvered the starship to descend in the air. The monster seemed surprised that these humans would return, it hesitated for a moment. Qin Xiao took this opportunity. Blue mental tendrils instantly extended from the crack of the porthole, swiftly passing through its layered limbs, reaching the location of the “eye” that Tang Ce had just discovered!

It was a football-sized eye, starkly contrasting with the densely packed dime-sized eyes around it. Tang Ce was right, this was indeed its brain.

As the mental tendrils suddenly approached, the monster felt a buzzing in its head. Immediately after, a gentle voice sounded in its mind, “Hello, I am Marshal Qin Xiao of the Human Federation. We do not harbor any malicious intent towards you, we are only here to investigate the truth of a matter.”

The monster coldly responded, “No malicious intent? But you have killed many of my kind.”

Kind? It referred to those tentacles as “kind”? This race should be a strange communal organism, with leaders possessing super high intelligence, similar to the spider queen on Red Spider Star.

However, the spider queen’s reproductive method involves laying eggs, and the newborn spiders do not need to stick to its body. The monster in front of them, its reproductive method was self-division, like shedding “seeds” from its body, the new life it reproduced would gather around it and act collectively.

Those tentacles were its “kind,” which meant that after the tentacles formed a new life, they would have the ability to move freely and think independently.

Qin Xiao sincerely said, “I’m sorry, but you attacked us first. In order to survive, we had no choice but to counterattack and defend ourselves.”

The monster sneered, “You invaded my planet first, so I attacked you.”

Qin Xiao was speechless. If we really argue about the sequence, it is indeed the humans’ fault. Humans invaded its planet first, it launched an attack, humans then defended and counterattacked, both sides suffered losses, and the Sunday Legion almost suffered a complete annihilation that year, and today Qin Xiao’s group almost left their lives here.

The key reason was still the lack of communication, everyone acted on instinct.

Humans had been expanding in the universe over the years, and the habit of allowing the Sentinel Special Forces to occupy and conquer resource planets has led to many wars and sacrifices. If the Guide Legion had been sent initially, gently and politely communicating with it, expressing goodwill, perhaps the tragedy would not have occurred.

Yu Ran once said that the mental communication ability of the Guide Legion was the best gift given to humans by God. However, humans did not make good use of the advantages of the Guide Legion. Instead, they hid the Guide Legion on the capital star and used the most brutal and rough methods to dominate interstellar space. This way, sooner or later, they would face backlash.

Now, the backlash was imminent.

Qin Xiao’s communication with the monster was not for negotiation, but to determine one thing—whether it has seen the Guide. At the moment of mental connection with it just now, it was not surprised, indicating that it knew about the existence of the Guide.

The guide accompanying the Sunday Legion, Ludwig, must have had mental communication with it. This was also the key reason why all other soldiers of the Sunday Legion perished, and only Major General Oust and Ludwig returned to the capital star alive!

They most likely reached some kind of agreement, so it let those two go.

Qin Xiao calmly asked, “Humans once invaded your home, so do you also want to visit the human world?”

The monster countered, “You humans are allowed to go to other planets, why can’t I go to your planet?”

Qin Xiao said good-naturedly, “If it’s for a friendly visit, we certainly welcome it. But now it seems that the one you sent wants to completely occupy the capital star. After its plan succeeds, does it also plan to come and get you? We also have oceans over there, perhaps more suitable for your survival?”

The monster sensed that Qin Xiao was being evasive and did not continue to respond.

Qin Xiao smiled, “Unfortunately, you have underestimated human intelligence. Colonizing human planets is not that easy.”

Upon hearing this, the monster’s mental world suddenly surged with intense anger, and its tentacles began to attack the starship frantically. Zhao Feng hurriedly controlled the starship to ascend instantly, narrowly avoiding its attacks.

The others didn’t know what the Marshal had talked about with it, only knowing that he had angered it. Qin Xiao severed the mental connection, his forehead already covered in cold sweat. He had just used the jellyfish to protect everyone, and now he had mental communication with a highly intelligent creature, almost depleting his mental energy.

Tang Ce quickly poured a glass of water and helped the Marshal sit down nearby, concerned, “Marshal, what did it say?”

Qin Xiao looked serious, “My guess was correct. Back then, Ludwig communicated with it mentally at a critical moment, allowing it to spare him. The exchange condition it proposed was to take it to see the human world.”

Everyone was speechless.

The people on the starship could all pat their chests and say—they were not afraid of sacrifice, they would never become traitors. However, not everyone could achieve “death with dignity.” There were always some who were cowardly and selfish, making choices that benefit themselves at critical moments. Perhaps, Ludwig didn’t expect these creatures to be so terrifying back then; he just wanted to survive, so he agreed to their conditions.

Unfortunately, he lacked understanding of these extraterrestrial beings. After being parasitized, his consciousness gradually got consumed and replaced, and his appearance stopped changing. That monster donned his skin and lurked in the human world for many years.

It lay dormant for so long, even collaborating with Morvi in sentinel experiments, likely to take over the capital star, making the oceans there its new home—completely colonizing human planets and controlling humans to serve it.

Humans had long been arrogant atop the food chain, and someday, they would reap what they sow. Perhaps when the new president takes office, it will be time to completely change the centuries-old interstellar expansion strategy.

Meanwhile, on the capital star, upon hearing the news that the Marshal was critically ill and bedridden, Lu Zexuan said, “The Marshal has been the Marshal for more than twenty years, he must have cultivated some of his own confidants. I guess he will secretly leave the capital star, find a body double to pretend to be ill at home, and deceive the eyes of the Dark Night Organization’s spies.”

“I’m worried that after he goes to Horologium, he might encounter terrible monsters…” Yu Ran closed his eyes, not daring to think further.

Lu Zexuan gently embraced Yu Ran, comforting him in a low voice, “Don’t think too much, Grandpa will be fine. He’s an S+ guide, with strong mental energy, and the jellyfish can also become invisible. He wouldn’t go on such an adventure alone. I guess he will go to Red Spider Star, find a few assistants, and explore together.”

Listening to Lu Zexuan’s calm analysis, Yu Ran’s anxious mood eased a bit. Grandpa had already left the capital star. There was no use worrying now; it was better to calm down and focus on their own tasks.

Thinking about this, Yu Ran changed the subject, “The first phase of the presidential tour has concluded, and there’s only one month left until the official vote. The Dark Night Organization should seize the opportunity to strike against him. After killing the president, they’ll replace him with the impostor.”

Lu Zexuan frowned, “There hasn’t been any news from the presidential palace recently.”

As they were talking, suddenly, a news bulletin played on the television, “President Harrison was intercepted and attacked by unknown forces while en route to the Shepherd Constellation for a speech. The president’s guard suffered heavy casualties. General Otis, the commander of the Sunday Legion, rushed to the scene upon receiving the distress signal and rescued the president. Currently, the president has safely returned to the capital star. The presidential palace spokesperson stated that the upcoming speech will be temporarily postponed.”

Underneath this news, countless netizens criticized another candidate.

“Surely this is McLean’s doing, right?”

“Assassinating President Harrison to sway the votes in his favor? How despicable!”

“Such a vile person with such methods should never become the president of the Federation.”

Lu Zexuan and Yu Ran exchanged a glance—this was definitely the work of the Dark Night Organization, and it was a smear campaign against the competitor. President Harrison was likely in trouble. And at this moment, the person living in the presidential palace had already been replaced with a fake.

This trick of “bait and switch” was indeed clever. Now, with the Sunday, Eagle, and Starlight Legion commanders ostensibly under the control of the Dark Night Organization, the Marshal bedridden and unable to influence the situation, and the president killed, what would they do next?

Yu Ran said, “Shouldn’t they contact me for the next step in their plan?”

The next day happened to be Friday. When Yu Ran and Lu Zexuan went to work together, that A-level sentinel came to see them again.

Since the Marshal came for inspection, Yu Ran no longer stayed in the same office as Lu Zexuan, but in the adjacent room, pretending to be a well-behaved boy earnestly studying. Yu Ran had previously asked that sentinel to buy him books, and today, the person used the excuse of delivering books to slip a note inside.

Yu Ran opened it and saw, “Saturday morning at 10 a.m., at the Federal Institute of Science, Professor Morvi invites you for a meeting. Let Lu Zexuan sleep at home; come alone.”

Yu Ran tore the note and flushed it down the toilet, thinking to himself, “Morvi wants to meet me alone.”

Lu Zexuan immediately became nervous. “Are you going alone? I’m worried. Find a way to bring me along; I can continue to play the puppet.”

“Don’t worry. After all, I’m the controller of two important puppets now; they won’t do anything to me for the time being. I guess Morvi wants to meet me for something important. Didn’t he say he wanted to take me as his closed-door disciple?” At this point, Yu Ran smirked, “He’s my dad’s old teacher. Tomorrow, I’ll personally go to pay respects to this ‘master’.”

  1. Seems YR’s Grandpa has seen the light regarding ‘reaping what they sow’. Hopefully this experience will change the Federation’s stance on how they access the resources of other planets.
Great story with several good messages.
Thank you both for the chapter.

  2. Ironic how the human claimed has the smartest brain yet failed to seek a peaceful method to talk to these monsters, instead only thinking using their guns. They’re so greedy. Just like in our real life, with the wars going on in some places 😕.
