Chapter 110: Atypical Mother of All

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

“Soul?” Jin Xuan was taken aback. He hadn’t expected Wu Chenghe to bring up such a solemn topic.

“Yes, soul,” Wu Chenghe affirmed. “Do you believe that a person’s soul truly exists and can exist independently of the body?”

Jin Xuan didn’t understand why he suddenly brought this up, but after some thought, he replied, “Some scientists believe that the soul is a type of quantum substance existing in the microtubule structure of the human brain. It’s not just the interaction of human brain cells but rather a separate entity formed within the universe. When a person is in a near-death state, the gravitational effects of quantum microtubules can cause this quantum substance to leave the body’s neural structure and enter the universe… Is this the theory you’re referring to?”

“I don’t know,” Wu Chenghe shook his head weakly, speaking softly. “So, do you believe that a person’s soul can transmigrate through time and space, occupying another person’s body?”

Jin Xuan felt a sense of unease, as if some horrifying truth was unfolding before him. Hesitating, he replied, “Theoretically, it’s possible. When a person’s quantum substance… or soul, leaves the body in a near-death state and returns to the universe, if it encounters high-dimensional or warped spacetime, it can indeed transmigrate through time into another dimensional space. If it happens to encounter someone with a similar brain structure who is also near death, it’s possible for it to enter their microtubule structure, either consuming or expelling their soul, and taking over to continue living… What are you trying to tell me?”

“I want to tell you,” Wu Chenghe looked him directly in the eyes, speaking slowly and deliberately, “that I am one of those people.”

Jin Xuan was stunned, his eyes widening. “What are you saying?”

“I don’t understand the quantum theory you mentioned,” Wu Chenghe continued, “but I am indeed a soul from a thousand years ago. Three years ago, during the Mayflower incident, for some unknown reason, I transmigrated through time and space and occupied this body.”

Jin Xuan stared at him incredulously. “What? You’re from a thousand years ago? A soul?”

“Yes, I’m from a thousand years ago. I was a military doctor working in a field hospital at the time. Some terrorists had taken over the hospital and detonated explosives as a demonstration against the UN forces. I thought I had died, but when I woke up, I found myself lying in a deep-sea hibernation pod, in the body of someone else from a thousand years later,” Wu Chenghe recounted in one breath, pausing to catch his breath before continuing, “I can’t explain this phenomenon, but it did happen. To survive, I concealed the fact of soul transmigration and claimed amnesia… When you met me, I was going through estrus. If you recall the situation at the time, you’ll realize I wasn’t lying. A seventeen-year-old boy facing a sudden emergency couldn’t possibly be so calculating. Only someone with a solid knowledge of medicine could independently prepare a sedative, use vinegar to isolate pheromones, hide themselves in a refrigerator, and inject themselves with over twenty different drugs.”

The expression on Jin Xuan’s face gradually shifted from shock to contemplation as he recalled his interactions with Wu Chenghe. Indeed, Wu Chenghe had displayed a maturity beyond his years in many aspects. For instance, his extensive medical knowledge, surgical skills surpassing many registered doctors since his freshman year, and his remarkable composure and decisiveness in the face of major crises, far exceeding that of ordinary adults, even surpassing federal soldiers.

However, his calm demeanor and accommodating nature in daily life sometimes led people to overlook the fact that he was a formidable weapon. They often assumed he was just quick-witted in emergencies, like a rabbit biting when cornered.

The medical pod fell into silence. Wu Chenghe didn’t offer any further explanations, and Jin Xuan didn’t raise any more questions. After a while, the two exchanged a knowing glance and reached out to hold each other’s hands.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you the truth,” Wu Chenghe murmured softly.

“No,” Jin Xuan shook his head, “to me, you’ve always been you, regardless of who you were before. Since the day I met you, you’ve been yourself.” He paused for a moment before adding, “So, you don’t need to apologize to me.”

A faint smile appeared on Wu Chenghe’s lips. “I also thought it wasn’t a big deal. That person has disappeared, and those who cared about him are all gone… until the day of the battle with the Quadrant, I realized that I had been ignoring his existence all along, taking over his body as a matter of course, but never considering doing something for him, fulfilling his wishes.”

In that instant, Jin Xuan remembered his behavior at the time and exclaimed, “So, that person wasn’t you back then? It was him who came back?”

“Yes,” Wu Chenghe nodded. “I had been ignoring the lingering obsession he had within this body. That day, after learning the true cause of Wu Xi’s death, I sensed Hannibal’s consciousness in the ‘Quadrant’ liaison ship. I don’t know why, but he suddenly ‘came’ back to life, forcefully seizing control of this body and using mental tendrils to control you, making you attack Hannibal regardless of the consequences.”

Jin Xuan suddenly understood. “I see. That’s why you seemed like a different person at the time, refusing to empathize with me and instead pushing me to unleash my potential and launch an attack… After the battle ended, you apologized to me, was it also because of this?”

Wu Chenghe nodded and said, “His soul, or rather the remaining quantum substance, was completely depleted after that fierce battle. I regained control of this body afterward, but it was too late. The mecha’s energy was depleted, the main engine malfunctioned, and my consciousness was exhausted. All I could do was to calm your mania and hope you could find a way to get us out.” He held Jin Xuan’s hand to his cheek, gently kissed it, filled with immense trust and pride, and hoarsely said, “I thought you couldn’t do it, but you did. You protected me, you protected us.”

Jin Xuan’s breath hitched. In fact, he had already prepared himself for both of them to die together at that time. If it weren’t for the timely arrival of the NTU First Fleet, they would have been cannon fodder for the “Quadrant” long ago…

But luck was also a part of strength. Jin Xuan quickly realized this and leaned down to kiss him on the corner of his mouth, saying, “It was you who protected us. Since the day I met you, I’ve been lucky. With you by my side, I can overcome any obstacle. That’s why you’re my guardian angel.”

Wu Chenghe smiled foolishly, despite his pale queen-like face, he still appeared gentle and harmless, like the naïve person he was.

“Oh, by the way, you said you were a military doctor?” Jin Xuan asked curiously. “How old are you? What’s your rank?”

“I’m a Major, one rank lower than you,” Wu Chenghe poked at Jin Xuan’s Colonel epaulets. “I studied medicine for eight years straight. I’ve been serving in the UN for two years since I graduated, but I didn’t even make it to Lieutenant Colonel before… before I died… at the age of twenty-eight.”

“Oh!” Jin Xuan raised an eyebrow. He had always thought that Wu Chenghe was knowledgeable and refined, far surpassing an ordinary medical student. It turned out he already had a doctorate and was also a Major in the military! Suddenly feeling proud and perfectly matched with him, Jin Xuan exclaimed, “I know about the UN, the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces. It’s like a precursor to the federal military, right? At that time, humanity seemed divided, and only through UN procedures could borderless alliances be formed.”

“Yes, I am Chinese,” Wu Chenghe nodded. “In our era, humanity was divided into dozens of countries. Most regions were peaceful, but due to beliefs, races, historical grudges, and so on, some countries were in constant warfare. It’s unbelievable that, because of the biochemical frenzy a hundred years later, the remaining humans actually came together, abandoning prejudices for survival and forming a unified federation. It’s really remarkable.”

Wu Chenghe sighed with emotion. Though feeling somewhat exhausted and dizzy, he felt a strong desire to express himself. He had suppressed many thoughts due to hiding his identity for so long, unable to even articulate his true thoughts to trusted individuals like his close teacher, Mu. Facing Jin Xuan, who was completely open and honest, his suppressed thoughts couldn’t help but emerge.

“Human unity is precious beyond measure. Nobody understands this better than me. I’ve witnessed many countries engage in endless battles due to historical disputes. In my previous life, I died in a bomb attack in Syria. So I don’t want to see people like Hannibal and Lancer succeed. I hope they fail, their conspiracies unravel, not just because of personal grudges, but because they jeopardize human peace for their own selfish desires.”

Jin Xuan was a bit worried about his condition, but seeing his clear gaze and firm tone, he knew that Wu Chenghe had been suppressing many things for a long time. He hesitated for a moment but decided not to interrupt him, simply holding his hand and quietly listening.

“Human peace has lasted for millennia. Once it fractures, it’s like stepping back in time. At that time, a huge amount of resources and energy will be wasted on internal strife, with death and destruction everywhere,” Wu Chenghe continued in a low voice. “The expansion of authoritarianism inevitably leads to separatist wars. To cover up their ambitions, they will dig up various excuses to sow hatred among humans, portraying themselves as arbiters, embodiments of ‘justice’… Human history is too dark. Germans and Jews, Israelis and Palistinians, Japanese and Chinese… With just one or two reasons, any race can be plunged into a prolonged war until extinction. We, the federal government and the president, must stop them… Facing the unknown universe, humanity should be unified. Internal contradictions can exist, but there should be no division and hatred. Anyone who attempts to divide humanity for their own ambitions should be sent to the electric chair…”

Wu Chenghe spoke intermittently, releasing the suppressed emotions gradually. His voice grew softer, and unconsciously, he drifted off to sleep. Jin Xuan held his cold hand, feeling a mix of astonishment and admiration.

He remembered when they first met, he asked Wu Chenghe what kind of life he wanted. Wu Chenghe had said he wanted to improve the lives of ordinary people through specific means, to do what he could for people like himself.

Wu Chenghe rarely talked about ideals or dreams, Jin Xuan always thought he was someone who focused on the present, even a bit of a follower. He entered Aston University, fought against Hannibal, and followed the NTU on missions, all just because of fate. It wasn’t until today that he realized, belatedly, that beneath Wu Chenghe’s simple and pragmatic attitude toward life, there had always been a great compassion and idealism for humanity, no less than the beliefs he had adhered to, such as freedom, democracy, and independence.

His guide, truly a motherly figure!

Wu Chenghe was seriously injured and lay in the NTU Medical Center for more than a month before he could barely use his brain normally.

During this period, Jin Xuan stayed by his side, taking care of his daily life and taking him to the rehabilitation center for cognitive rehabilitation with the guidance of doctors. During rest time, they lay on the same bed, chatting about their past, childhood anecdotes, teenage experiences, and emotional experiences.

Jin Xuan’s mind was open to Wu Chenghe. He had long understood his emotional history. This guy was too proud and arrogant; there were many who pursued him, but none caught his eye. Therefore, before going to Gabriel, he was still a virgin, both emotionally and physically.

Wu Chenghe’s own past was relatively complicated. During his military medical school days, he had a female classmate whom he developed a relationship with, going as far as holding hands and watching movies together. However, because he was too busy with his studies and too passive in his character, they only went on two dates before she broke it off.

Later, at the UN, an Arab tycoon pursued him because he was infatuated with Wu Chenghe’s “mysterious oriental temperament.” To express his feelings, the tycoon surrounded Wu Chenghe’s dormitory building with tens of thousands of roses and even bought a lion to propose to him. Wu Chenghe couldn’t handle this kind of stimulation, feeling depressed at the time. The next day, he volunteered to go to the front line, and then… there was no “then.” He was given a bomb at the field hospital and died.

The rhythm of “no gay, no life.” This incident caused him to have serious psychological barriers to both men and lions. But encountering Jin Xuan, who was extraordinary, all those barriers were nothing. He could only silently overcome them himself.

Jin Xuan learned that he had a romantic history in his past life, and he was quite displeased about it. However, considering that he had already changed bodies and had remained chaste in this life, Jin Xuan reluctantly “forgave” his “infidelity” and gave him some “education” in bed whenever his physical condition allowed it.

Wu Chenghe eagerly accepted his “education,” wondering if there were any strange side effects from the interferon Haynes injected into him. Since returning from Tartaros, his desire in that area had suddenly become strong. Sometimes, just a touch or a hug from Jin Xuan would trigger it, and he would actively cooperate to satisfy it.

Fortunately, he had taken long-lasting contraceptives after giving birth to his children, so even though he was frequently intimate with Jin Xuan, they hadn’t ended up with any unplanned pregnancies.

In contrast, Yin Bo was having a rough time. Yin Bo had suffered minor injuries during the battle on Tartaros and was sent to the medical center, only to find out that he was thirty-eight days pregnant. He was carrying a bun in the oven!

The day Yin Bo received the test results, he almost had a breakdown. If it weren’t for Kazumi Koyama holding him back, he might have smashed the porthole and jumped out of the medical starship!

Although he already knew he was a fertile male, and he joked around with Chang Gong and the others, saying things like “Your Highness, I’m willing to bear your child,” it was all just banter. He never imagined he would actually end up pregnant!

What was going on? He had infiltrated the X-X Research Institute for the mission. Was this child his own or the result of his mission? Should he turn it over to the federation, or should he raise it himself? Oh my god, how could he raise it on his own? An unwed father-to-be? Oh, heavens! He was only twenty-two years old; he still felt like a child himself!

And he hadn’t even gotten a marriage certificate with Kazumi Koyama yet!

The immature sentinel was at a loss, already experiencing prenatal depression in the hospital room. Fortunately, Kazumi Koyama was more mature. He quickly accepted reality and completed the transition from single nobleman to a new dad, comforting his sentinel, “That’s great! I’ve wanted a child for a long time. Once you’ve recovered, we’ll return to Planet Dunkirk and have a wedding! Don’t worry, I’ll always be with you. I love children, and I’ll be a good dad!”

Although Yin Bo was depressed, as a special agent, he remained strong inside. Hearing Kazumi Koyama’s firm declaration, he felt that enduring such suffering was worth it. Kazumi Koyama was introverted, and they had been together for so long without him saying anything cheesy. Today, suddenly proposing to him, even if it was just for the sake of the child, was a huge step forward!

After a brief panic, Yin Bo began to feel a sense of relief. Thinking about it, it felt somewhat like a blessing in disguise. Yin Bo, forgetting his previous cowardly behavior in the face of doomsday, looked at Kazumi Koyama with shining eyes, “Then you can’t back out! Let’s get married as soon as we go back, and I want to have the wedding banquet at Chen’s Sign of Good Fortune. We’ll buy a big house with a swimming pool and even raise a big golden retriever!”

Kazumi Koyama chuckled at his silly and cute appearance, patting his head, “Whatever you want. I’ll make our accounts joint, so feel free to buy whatever you want. House, car, dog, cat… except for another guide, there’s no problem with bringing anything home!”

As the chief scientist of a well-known pharmaceutical company, his salary was quite generous. All those years of saving for a wife finally came in handy!

The experienced, penniless special agent’s eyes sparkled at the sight of his sugar daddy, completely forgetting his previous cowardly behavior, “Oh! Sugar daddy! I’m willing to bear your child!”

Kazumi Koyama calmly patted his head, “Then let’s have one!”

The feeling of a reverse CP was getting stronger and stronger… Kazumi Koyama’s chameleon squatted in the corner, anxiously raising its head: Oh! No! Wha!

In the days that followed, Yin Bo and Kazumi Koyama discussed the details of children, houses, cars, dogs, and the wedding until everything was planned out. Only then did they realize an important issue: their exemption application seemed to not have been submitted yet.

So the two of them jointly wrote a letter to Jin Xuan, requesting that the busy captain take some time out of his schedule on another medical starship to help them apply for an exemption from their superiors.

Jin Xuan, who was busy with Wu Chenghe’s rehabilitation and their love affair, naturally agreed to their request. He followed the regulations and wrote a formal exemption application, which was then submitted to the NTU big boss.

Several months later, after a series of cumbersome approval procedures, Yin Bo’s exemption request was officially approved. Kazumi Koyama, as his full-time doctor, was conscripted into the NTU by the federal government. Due to Kazumi Koyama’s high qualifications and significant scientific contributions, he was given the rank of lieutenant colonel right away, surpassing Yin Bo by a huge margin. Thus, he became one of the legendary figures in the military—a guide with a rank higher than a sentinel, a first in many years.

The reverse CP had reached such a level that Yin Bo could be considered to have made a name for himself…

Meanwhile, the long-lasting campaign to suppress the rebellion of the Second Army finally came to an end. The combined fleet of the Federal Navy and the Voyager Army’s First Corps completely wiped out the remnants of the Lancer rebellion in the Chi Fu Chain Nebula, capturing over a thousand prisoners and over a hundred warships. All the senior rebel commanders were killed, including Lancer and his wife, as well as their young son and daughter.

When the battle report reached the NTU medical center, Jin Xuan and Wu Chenghe exchanged a glance, both wearing solemn expressions. Although Lancer was dead, the battle still consumed federal military strength. After this battle, the Second Army’s strength was greatly reduced, to almost less than seventy percent of its original force.

Furthermore, in this battle, the First Corps dispatched its fleet to besiege the Second Army without receiving orders from the federation, indicating a clear signal—Hannibal already considered the Voyager Army as his personal domain of power and dared to attack at will.

Of course, for now, he hadn’t thought about turning against the federation. So, at the beginning of the battle on Tartaros, he submitted an application to the federation, stating that he had discovered disloyalty within the Second Army. As the supreme commander of the three armed forces, he was willing to take the initiative to eliminate this threat to the federation and clean house. Although his actions were completely unauthorized, he at least reported it. The federation couldn’t do anything about him, so they tacitly approved his actions.

Later, when the battle in the Chi Fu Chain Nebula broke out, he volunteered again, mobilizing the First Corps’ main fleet, the “Quadrant,” to the front lines, “assisting” the Federal Navy in jointly eliminating the remnants of the rebellion.

After these two incidents, both the federal navy and the government tacitly understood Hannibal’s intentions: after the battle, the Second Army would face a massive reshuffle. No one wanted to give up such a large piece of meat easily. President Jin had been scheming from the Black Pearl case all the way to the Tartaros case, just to weaken the Voyager Army’s strength and reclaim one-third of its military power for the federation. Hannibal, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate to confront his father-in-law. He dug one pit after another, aiming to swallow up the Second Army and end the current situation of the Voyager Army’s three-way balance, becoming a true “commander”!

The root cause of the conflict was still the struggle for military power.

This conflict reached its climax after the battle in the Chi Fu Chain Nebula. The Federal Navy stationed on the front line demanded that the “Quadrant” withdraw from the First Corps’ base. However, the “Quadrant” remained stationed on the side of the nebula for various reasons, refusing to comply with the navy’s deployment and instead demanding that the federal government redraw the territorial boundaries according to Commander Hannibal’s proposed defensive line plan.

The navy and the Voyager Army faced off in the Chi Fu Chain, and Hannibal and Defense Secretary Balon initiated three rounds of negotiations, all of which ended in failure. In the end, both sides jointly submitted an application, pushing the issue to the highest leader of the federal military—the president, Jin Zhe—asking him to make the final decision.

On the day the application was placed on the desk of the “Iron Wing” Tower, Wu Chenghe’s mental trauma had completely healed. He boarded the starship bound for Planet Dunkirk with Jin Xuan, and accompanying them were Yin Bo and Kazumi Koyama, who had been granted exemptions and were about to hold their wedding ceremony.

  1. Loving this. I get this chapter of events needed tying up; succinctly done.
I’m confused about Lancer’s family that died too. I thought his daughters were Lilith, and the brat who’s a Nurse & hates WC; plus a grand-daughter. So is ‘Miss Lancer’ (the nurse) dead?!
Didn’t he also have another son in Third Army (granddaughter’s dad). Maybe I don’t remember early chapters so well.
    Thrilled for YB and KK!
JZ & Mu need to 🤵‍♂️🤵‍♂️👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨 now.
Thank you both for the chapter.
