The military training ended, and Wu Chenghe officially began his career at the medical school.
The clinical study at Aston Medical College spans eight years, divided into two stages. The first stage covers grades one to four, during which students primarily learn theoretical knowledge at school, along with around thirty percent of practical classes. However, this doesn’t mean they stay at school all the time. Every year, they have to participate in a one-month social practice, during which they enter major federal hospitals as interns, assisting doctors and familiarizing themselves with hospital workflows.
The second stage covers grades five to eight, during which they wear the badge of intern doctors, rotating shifts with designated hospitals and doctors. During these four years, both the school and the hospitals assess their performance. Those who pass stay, while those who fail leave.
“Leaving” here doesn’t mean transferring to another hospital or school; it means losing the qualification to practice medicine. Once they enter the internship stage, medical students have no chance for makeup exams. If they fail any assessment, they lose the opportunity to become a doctor for life.
The dropout rate for each year at Aston Medical College is close to 20%, extremely harsh. Compared to the military specialty, the intensity of the first-year curriculum makes all the freshmen feel like it’s doomsday. Only Wu Chenghe remained relatively calm, having undergone eight years of medical education in his previous life; this felt like child’s play now. Back when he served in the UN, due to understaffing in field hospitals, they often operated on a 120-hour shift rotation, with doctors on standby for five days and nights straight, performing one major surgery after another, even timing their bathroom breaks!
Thinking about it, he’s about to experience those days again soon, and he’s kind of excited!
The first year mainly consists of foundational courses, including microbiology, pharmacology, and so on. After centuries of development, these basic sciences have evolved significantly from what they were hundreds of years ago. However, Wu Chenghe had a solid foundation, and during the unified exams, he browsed through the database of the First Hospital, so he didn’t feel particularly out of touch.
Additionally, there are some elective courses, such as holographic medicine and artificial intelligence, taught by professors hired from other institutions. Jin Xuan, an expert in artificial intelligence, fulfilled his wish to become Wu Chenghe’s substitute teacher, and they began a teacher-student romance.
At first, Wu Chenghe was worried that Jin Xuan’s flashy style might scare off his classmates, but Jin Xuan behaved very normally during working hours. He either wore a white shirt and black suit or the military uniform that’s standard for graduates of the Strategy Academy—he held the rank of Major after graduating with a doctorate in military science. When he put on his military uniform, he looked incredibly handsome, especially when he had a serious expression on his face; he was like the male lead in an imperial military novel. He had a considerable reputation before, although he’s now retired from the art scene, his influence still lingers. During the first class, many students skipped to watch, almost bursting Wu Chenghe’s classroom. Several professors with zero attendance rates complained to the administration, demanding the removal of such competition that relies on flaunting looks.
Fortunately, Jin Xuan didn’t behave improperly during class, so the complaints were dismissed by the administration, and only the students who skipped were given warnings.
Over time, the students realized that King and Professor Jin, although the same person, had completely different personalities. The former was dazzling, while the latter was more conventional. Disappointed, they stopped watching him, and the classes finally returned to normal order.
To be honest, Wu Chenghe admired Jin Xuan. When he says he’s retired from the art scene, he truly was. It seems like he doesn’t even miss the feeling of being in the limelight, which is simply unbelievable!
If someone can let go of fame and fortune, what can’t they do? Suddenly, Wu Chenghe felt worried about his own future.
Because the curriculum is too tight, and King God’s fans are too fierce, Wu Chenghe only had one public date with Jin Xuan in over a month. They went to a nearby city to participate in a retro carnival parade. Jin Xuan had customized exquisite Hanfu for them; he wore a gray shirt, while Wu Chenghe wore a dark green robe. The two of them standing together were like a perfect couple, receiving countless enthusiastic cheers even though they wore ancient Kunlun slave masks.
The feeling of being worshiped together made Jin Xuan very happy. Throughout the parade, he tightly held Wu Chenghe’s hand. Although he’s seen much more fervent adoration, being able to stand side by side with Wu Chenghe still gave him an electrifying sense of satisfaction.
If one day he could openly hold his hand and walk into the church, receiving blessings from the whole world, I wonder if he’d be so ecstatic he’d burst a blood vessel… It was the first time in Jin Xuan’s life that he began to worry about his health.
Unable to publicly date, Jin Xuan could only privately take care of his little guide. Almost every weekend, Jin Xuan spent three to five hours in the kitchen preparing various snacks for Wu Chenghe, stocking his dormitory fridge with late-night snacks. Wu Chenghe was at the stage of growing taller; after entering autumn, his height officially surpassed 170 cm, but he remained quite thin. Although theoretically all guides looked like this due to genetic issues, Jin Xuan still diligently fed his little boyfriend, hoping to accumulate enough fat for him before adulthood to avoid draining his vitality.
Entering early autumn, the Strategy Academy welcomed its annual autumn training. As a freshman counselor, Jin Xuan had to accompany the team to the Grand Canyon for a four-day training. Before leaving, he instructed Wu Chenghe to eat on time and go to the tailor he had booked to try on clothes—Jin Zhe’s secretary had officially sent an invitation, inviting Wu Chenghe to attend a thank-you banquet at the presidential mansion next week, requiring formal attire.
Sending off Jin Xuan, it happened to be Friday, with no major classes in the afternoon, only a human anatomy experiment. “Systematic Anatomy” was a required course for freshmen. For the past month, they had been learning theoretical knowledge, and today, they finally entered the laboratory. Everyone felt a bit nervous—after all, they had never seen a dead body before.
At 3:30 in the afternoon, all the students went to the laboratory. The scale of the medical school’s laboratory was quite large, with more than twenty floors in total. The human anatomy room was on the second basement floor. Students went down in batches using the elevator, gathered at the entrance of the laboratory, and waited for about five minutes before seeing a tall figure approaching.
Dean Mu was wearing a snow-white lab coat, still underneath was a black shirt and black trousers, the standard attire for grave sweeping. His face was so cold it seemed like it had just been taken out of the fridge, about to release ice crumbs.
The dean personally leading the lab session surprised everyone, but having such a teacher… the pressure was a bit too much.
“Is everyone here?” Dean Mu’s sharp gaze swept from left to right. Before the class monitor could answer, he said, “Hmm, everyone’s here. Let’s go in.” With that, he used his personal terminal to connect to the door access.
The automatic door “beeped” open, and everyone followed him into the lab. Immediately, they smelled a faint medicinal odor. The boys wrinkled their brows, and a few delicate girls covered their noses.
For Wu Chenghe, this scent was almost negligible, probably because of technological advancements. In his previous life, when he attended anatomy class, the bodies were still treated with formalin, which was much more nauseating. After one sniff, you’d be nauseous for ten days. After the first anatomy class, many people couldn’t eat red meat for almost half a month.
“Several of you, go and move the samples,” Dean Mu said, scanning the crowd and accurately catching the students with the worst expressions. “You, you, you… and Balon, along with the girl next to him, you six go to the adjacent room to move the samples over. I’ve already had my assistant handle it in the morning; they’re outside the freezer.”
The six students turned pale, including Balon, who usually carried himself arrogantly. Everyone looked at each other, none of them moved. After waiting for half a minute, Dean Mu said, “Alright, you six can pack up and go home. Congratulations, you’re finally liberated; you’ll never have to dissect corpses again in your life. Of course, congratulations to the rest of you as well; the teaching resources available to you will be more abundant from now on.”
“W-Wait a minute, I-I didn’t mean that, I’ll go move them right away.” One male student said, forcing himself to speak, looking around, “Who’s coming with me?”
“I’ll… I’ll go.” Several students picked up, including Balon, who also chimed in softly. The remaining girl looked even worse, shifting her feet helplessly, and finally, her eyes rolled back as she fainted.
Wu Chenghe happened to be standing behind her and immediately caught her, laying her flat on the nearby lab table. “Professor, let’s send her to the campus hospital first. I’ll move the samples for her.”
Dean Mu glanced at him, then turned to the girl who fainted, “She’s fine, she’ll wake up in a few minutes.” Then he waved his hand, signaling him to go move the samples.
Wu Chenghe was already an experienced porter, often moving corpses in medical school in his past life. The elevators at their school were particularly weird; a body could never fit, forcing them to stand upright. It was manageable with two
Two people, each supporting one side, but if he was alone, he had to lean the entire body against the wall. Once, he had to carry two bodies alone, one on each side. The group of six arrived at the adjacent sample room and indeed saw three processed bodies on the mortuary table. They had been taken out of the freezer in the morning, their skin and hair had been treated, and they were smooth and white.
One male student immediately vomited.
Wu Chenghe rubbed his temples. After hundreds of years, why were the children’s mental resilience not as good as before? In his previous life, even the most timid girl in their class didn’t vomit during their first anatomy class. Wait a minute, it seemed different. At that time, their first class was about understanding the skeleton. They only officially interacted with corpses after several classes to get used to it.
“Let’s move first and let him rest for a while,” Wu Chenghe said, pondering that perhaps teaching methods had changed these days.
Several students wore expressions as if they wanted to die, but given that not moving the bodies would mean dismissal, reluctantly accepted Wu Chenghe’s suggestion. They paired up and each group pushed a body into the lab. The boy who had vomited came over to help Wu Chenghe.
When they had all pushed the bodies in, Dean Mu frowned and said, “Who told you all to push them here? Those two bodies are for the parallel class. What will the others use now? It’s shameful to waste, do you understand?”
Except for Wu Chenghe, all six of them were thunderstruck. Why did they need six people to move just one corpse? They hadn’t been clear when they moved it, and yet the adjacent room conveniently had three prepared…
Everyone felt like the dean was playing them, but under pressure, nobody dared to say anything. They silently pushed the bodies back to a distant location.
When Wu Chenghe returned to the lab again, the girl who had fainted was already awake, standing pale and trembling near the bodies. Dean Mu stood next to her, either to comfort her or prevent her from escaping, his hand tightly gripping her shoulder.
“Alright, starting today, you’ll officially have systematic anatomy class. Last semester was human anatomy, and this semester is regional anatomy,” Mu said. “First, as per the tradition of our medical school, we pay homage to the ‘cadaver teacher,’ the body donors who will teach you knowledge with their bodies. Now, let’s observe three minutes of silence.” With that, he bowed his head first, devoutly saying, “Thank you for your selflessness, rest in peace.”
The students endured the intense discomfort and followed suit, bowing their heads and saying, “Thank you for your selflessness, rest in peace.”
After three minutes, Mu raised his head and gestured to Balon, “Alright, you two, take the ‘cadaver teacher’ back to the adjacent room.”
Everyone felt like fainting—was all this trouble just for three minutes of silence?
But nobody dared to question the dean’s decision. Balon, his face ashen, pushed the body back again.
“While you have some time, familiarize yourselves with the lab rules,” Mu said casually, pointing to the regulations posted on the lab wall. After the dean’s impressive demonstration of authority just now, everyone took his words as gospel, devoutly studying the regulations, even Wu Chenghe.
“Alright, let’s officially start the class now.” When Balon returned, Mu clapped his hands and pushed out a bright white human skeleton from the cabinet. “This class, we’ll start by understanding the human skeleton.”
Compared to the previous “cadaver teacher,” the skeletal model looked so cute and lovely that everyone faced the dead bones without any discomfort. Even the girl who had fainted earlier bravely touched the skull, her pale face even showing a blush.
Was this the power of contrast? Wu Chenghe wiped his sweat silently, thinking, “Dean, why are you always so unpredictable…”
The lab session ended quickly. Although Mu was eccentric in many ways, his professional level was extremely high. Wu Chenghe’s anatomy teacher in his previous life was considered a top expert in the industry, but he still fell far short of Mu.
That’s the difference between a master and a genius, Wu Chenghe thought. Anyway, learning from such a person would be extremely beneficial.
After class, Mu washed up and changed clothes, leaving behind his lab coat. He pointed to the girl who had fainted earlier and said, “Someone has moved the samples for you earlier. You stay and clean up here, tidy up the lab, the experimental tables, floors… Also, make sure to store the human bone specimens properly in the cabinet.” With that, he waved his sleeve casually and left.
The impact of the first anatomy class was too great, and everyone felt a bit mentally uneasy. They quickly left. Wu Chenghe saw the girl looking helpless and conflicted, knowing she might burst into tears if left alone. He sighed and said, “Forget it, you go. I’ll tidy up for you.”
“How can I let you do that?” The girl wasn’t familiar with Wu Chenghe. Although she was grateful that he volunteered to help her, she still felt embarrassed.
“It’s okay, I’m brave and not afraid of these things,” Wu Chenghe said. “You go back and rest. The dean has left, and nobody will know if I don’t say anything.”
“Then, thank you!” The girl was so grateful that she was almost in tears. She bowed to Wu Chenghe and left.
The twins exchanged a knowing look, and with a subtle nod, they summoned their white lackey over. After a brief whispered conversation, the three of them left together.
Wu Chenghe noticed them conversing in the corner outside the lab, finding it odd that they hadn’t left. But he was busy cleaning up and didn’t dwell on it. He restored the human skeleton to its original position, secured it, and carefully placed it back in the cabinet. He then cleaned the lab benches, the floor, and finally disinfected everything, preparing to leave.
The clock pointed to 7 PM, and it was probably dark outside. Wu Chenghe washed his hands, intending to head upstairs to his dorm. However, when he tried to open the corridor door, he was surprised to find it locked from the outside.
Damn it! He finally understood what the Oreos Trio had been up to outside!
“Is anyone there?” Wu Chenghe knocked on the door, calling out loudly. There was no response. Today was Friday afternoon, there weren’t many classes to begin with, and once Dean Mu left, the assistant lab technicians would have left too. They wouldn’t have stayed behind to wait for him to clean up.
He tried to use the emergency call device but found the line was dead. Whether it was already broken or tampered with by the Oreos Trio, he didn’t know. He then tried to use his personal terminal to call someone from the dorm, but the signal was blocked, and he couldn’t make a call.
This was too much! Wu Chenghe hadn’t taken the Oreos Trio seriously before; they had caused him some trouble in the past, but it was all child’s play—like planting viruses in his course materials or deleting assignments submitted to the teachers’ network. After being ruthlessly retaliated against by the likes of Jin Xuan, the twisted academic overachiever, they had been quiet for a long time.
He thought they were just good at small tricks, but he didn’t expect them to pull off something big today! Now it was troublesome. The experimental center wouldn’t open over the weekend, and the first lab class next week was on Monday afternoon. That meant he would be stuck in the lab for three days and two nights, spending a “wonderful” weekend with a bunch of human skeletons and the “cadaver teacher.”
Well, it wasn’t a big deal for him; he wasn’t afraid. But how would he solve the problem of food? He couldn’t just eat samples, could he?
He hoped his roommates would notice he hadn’t returned at night and inform the dorm management office. Wu Chenghe prayed silently, but he also knew the chances were slim. He had a good relationship with his roommates; the last time he went out with Jin Xuan for the weekend, he had asked everyone to cover for him when the dormitory staff came for inspections. Without him there this time, they probably thought he was out on another date and would likely cover for him again.
The problem was Jin Xuan had been assigned to the Grand Canyon for training, which was completely closed off from the outside world, so he wouldn’t notice that Wu Chenghe was locked up.
What rotten luck! Wu Chenghe paced around the lab like a trapped animal for a while, finally sighing—alright, might as well stay put. At worst, he would be hungry for a couple of days, but he wouldn’t starve. The “cadaver teacher” and the others were all very caring individuals; even in death, they were generous. Spending time with them could still elevate his spirit.
Soon, someone found solace in their predicament and became completely calm. After a couple of laps around the underground floor to familiarize himself with the layout, Wu Chenghe found the chemistry lab. He washed a clean beaker and heated a cup of water with the alcohol lamp. Then, he opened the medicine cabinet and found a bottle of analytical grade fructose, adding two spoonfuls to the water to replenish his energy.
After drinking the sugary water, his hunger seemed to subside. Wu Chenghe returned to the anatomy lab, laid down on the clean bench he had prepared earlier, and took a nap.
The next day, Wu Chenghe woke up refreshed, feeling energetic. After running a few laps in the corridor, feeling a bit bored, he decided to pull out one of the bodies from the storage room, intending to dissect and practice. He hadn’t used a scalpel in over half a year; his hands were starting to feel rusty. Since he was stuck here with nothing to do, he might as well get some practice.
As soon as he picked up the scalpel, Wu Chenghe forgot everything else. He was completely absorbed, his entire consciousness focused on the thin blade.
Cutting through the skin, layer by layer dissecting the muscles, using instruments to open the chest cavity, separating and tying off blood vessels… It might have been an illusion, but Wu Chenghe felt like his intuition was especially keen. His hand-eye coordination was almost perfect, and even though he wasn’t as familiar with this body as he had been with patients in his previous life due to human evolution, his movements were smoother than ever, especially when it came to dissecting muscles and handling blood vessels, clean and precise, even better than his previous life’s mentor.
Was it because of guidance? Was his consciousness cloud controlling his hands and eyes? Wu Chenghe separated the last blood vessel and looked at the intact heart in front of him, feeling a surge of joy. After such a long time, he felt like becoming a guide might not be such a bad thing after all!
Discovering this secret, Wu Chenghe really wanted to shake hands with the Oreos Trio and thank them for locking him in here, giving him the chance to enjoy so many human samples all by himself!
In his previous life, anatomy classes had five or six people sharing one sample. Now, one person had three! It was simply an anatomy feast!
After dissecting the thoracic and abdominal cavities, Wu Chenghe was more convinced than ever that he was a genius. He would surely become a master in the field of surgery in the future. Unable to contain his excitement, he wandered into other labs, only to find some students from who-knows-which class had practiced suturing and created a mess of synthetic skin. As a surgeon with high standards and strict criteria, Wu Chenghe had severe OCD when it came to suturing. Seeing their messy work made him feel as uncomfortable as if his skin was being scratched by a cat. So he tore them all out and re-sutured them properly, feeling much better afterward.
And so, Wu Chenghe spent his happiest and most fulfilling weekend since arriving at Aston University, dissecting two bodies and suturing dozens of different wounds. When Dean Mu, looking pale, rushed into the basement with two school doctors, he found his miraculous student not fainting or collapsing but happily dissecting a male corpse, humming a cheerful tune as if he had consumed an energy drink—completely unstoppable!

Thank you ♥️❤️☺️☺️
I did anatomy class at Uni and I would’ve thoroughly enjoyed it except for the strong smell of formaldehyde 😖 I can feel his joy 😄
Thanks for the chapter!
I doubt Mu will be impressed, and even if he is, it won’t be shown.
That Balon Twin and his lacky really need taking in hand… I assume only one is there, the other being a Sentinel?
