Chapter 65: I Had Special Captive Techniques

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

After receiving the transfer order from NTU, Jin Xuan packed up and moved to the Federal Information Building located in the military and political center.

Wu Chenghe felt a bit empty. Since the Black Pearl incident, Jin Xuan had been by his side, steadfast and unwavering every day, suddenly leaving like this made his life feel like it was missing a large piece, and he just didn’t feel right.

Has he become somewhat dependent on him? Wu Chenghe vaguely felt that his feelings towards Jin Xuan had changed. From accepting him innocently to gradually developing a faint longing, yearning to see him every day, to eat with him face to face, sit at the same desk reading, sharing school gossip, and complaining about their superiors…

This feeling was hard to describe as good or bad, it was somewhat uneasy yet sweet, seemed dangerous, but irresistibly wanting to immerse deeper. Was this love?

In his two lifetimes, he had never been so confused. As someone with almost zero past romantic experiences, Wu Chenghe found himself in a strange dilemma. On one hand, he felt like he had finally awakened and learned to like someone, which was a cause for celebration. On the other hand, as a guide, he was alarmed that he had developed attachment and submission to a sentinel without any marks, which was definitely a worrisome sign. And importantly: did he want to take it to bed?

This question was simply too mysterious. For someone like Wu Chenghe, whose brain lacked a piece when it came to romantic matters, undergoing a major surgery involving his heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys would probably be easier.

Everyone had their weaknesses, and his was “not knowing how to date.”

Of course, he wouldn’t just sit and wait for fate to decide. As a smart person, when rational thinking yielded no results, Wu Chenghe put his hopes in various strange divinations, such as subconsciously counting kernels of corn when eating, “yes, no, yes, no… yes… no…”

Then he would unconsciously count during class when the teacher adjusted his pants, one adjustment, one count; two adjustments, two counts, “yes, no, yes… no…”

So much so that during Mu’s experiment class, he got caught up in an endless loop of “one stitch, one stitch,” Mu sewed one stitch, he counted one; sewed another, he counted again, “yes, no, yes…”

“What are you doing?” After the experiment class, Mu sent away the others and kept him alone. “Why do I hear you counting? Are you counting to format your pathetic brain?”

“Uh… nothing!” Wu Chenghe was shocked. He already knew Mu had a strong power, but he didn’t expect it to be so high that he could even sense him counting.

Mu had been paying attention to Wu Chenghe’s situation and noticed that since he came back from having dinner at the presidential residence, this guy seemed a bit absent-minded, often blushing inexplicably, silly smiling, eyes shining. With the professional eye of a doctor, it was probably infatuation.

“Thinking about getting into bed?” Mu asked expressionlessly, getting straight to the point.

“What?!” Wu Chenghe was wiping the dissecting table, startled, almost throwing the cloth in his face. “What nonsense are you talking about?”

“You gave the ring already. Don’t you want to get into bed with him? Don’t lie to me!” Mu chuckled, taking a step back to avoid getting hit by the cloth. “Don’t tell me you don’t know you can’t just casually give rings like that.”

“…I really didn’t know.” Wu Chenghe regretted, “I’ve never bought a birthday present for a boyfriend… no, I’ve never had a boyfriend!”

Mu rubbed his forehead. Did he really have half of Commander Hannibal’s genes? Or did his mom get shocked by some high-powered appliance when she was pregnant with him? “Alright, stop looking so frustrated all the time. If you want to do it, just do it. Holding it in like this is delaying your studies. Look at your recent assignments, they’re not even up to Big Balon’s standards.”

“D-do what?” Wu Chenghe blushed, trying to maintain a straight face. “Dean, as a teacher, how can you casually discuss such topics with students? And you don’t even have a boyfriend, you have no right to speak!”

“Cut the crap,” Mu mocked, “you’ve practically written ‘bed’ on your face, even the floor-cleaning robot can see it.”

Wu Chenghe touched his face nervously. “I-I haven’t…”

“Your face says it all.” Mu leaned against the reagent cabinet, reading through the lab reports handed in by the students, and said lightly, “Being willing to establish the final bond with him isn’t entirely a bad thing. Once the bond is established, you’ll be able to shield yourself from the interference of other sentinels, making it relatively safer. However, empathetic bonding can lead to submission on your part, so you need to be psychologically prepared for that. But a fool like Jin Xuan probably won’t use this to bully you. His IQ in your presence is completely negative… no, wait, both of yours are negative.”

“…Two negatives make a positive.” Wu Chenghe retorted unwillingly.

Mu glared at him and continued, “After the bond is established, his possessiveness and control over you will become more severe. You’ll need to work on increasing your own power to balance him out and ease his aggressiveness. Barbary lion sentinels are very domineering; if you want to maintain your independence in front of him, you’ll need a lot of courage and strong self-control, understand?”

Wu Chenghe nodded silently. Mu was one of the key figures in the Free Guide Organization, and he had rich experience in this regard. Each of his teachings could save him from many detours.

“Creation is very mysterious. Nature has special balancing methods. If sentinel mania syndrome is given, then the guide also has the healing power.” Mu said, “The combination of sentinel and guide doesn’t necessarily mean absolute strength or weakness. Traditional beliefs have always considered guides as dependents and sentinels as leaders, which is completely a misconception. Human vision is too short-sighted. They only see the strong bodies and developed senses of sentinels but overlook the powerful consciousness of guides. In my opinion, a good guide can completely take the lead and lead his sentinel. So don’t worry too much. As long as you’re strong enough, you can continue to be yourself.”

Wu Chenghe pondered for a moment, “Are you saying that guides can influence and even manipulate sentinels through empathetic bonding?”

“No, that’s just the surface phenomenon, the tip of the iceberg.” Mu smiled mysteriously. “You know, guides appeared later than sentinels. Strictly speaking, guides are a mutant species of sentinels. Traditional medicine has always regarded this mutation as accidental, pathological, and bad. But I think it’s actually a kind of evolution. The genes of guides are better and more perfect than those of sentinels. They are the higher beings.”

Wu Chenghe was stunned, completely unfamiliar with such a novel theory. Hesitating, he said, “But the fact is, guides are often weaker, even more fragile than ordinary humans.”

“Human beings are weaker than most wild animals, but they are at the top of the evolutionary chain.” Mu said, “The evolutionary advantage of guides lies not in their bodies, but in their consciousness. Both guides and sentinels have consciousness clouds, but only the consciousness cloud of guides can evolve into mental tendrils, influencing the consciousness clouds of others. What does this mean?”

“…Evolution?”

“Yes.” Mu said, “And there are quantum beasts. As we all know, they are a kind of high-dimensional companion beast. Both sentinels and guides can observe them, but only guides can directly attack them through mental tendrils, while sentinels can only command their own quantum beasts through empathetic bonding to attack others’ quantum beasts. What does this indicate?”

A shocked expression gradually appeared on Wu Chenghe’s face. “This indicates… guides can directly influence higher-dimensional beings through mental tendrils!”

“Exactly.” Mu gave him an appreciative smile. “If in our usual three-dimensional world, of course, sentinels have stronger combat abilities, but once they encounter enemies from higher dimensions, guides are the ones who can truly engage in battle. So in my opinion, they are the real warriors.”

This was completely the gateway to a new world. Wu Chenghe couldn’t come to his senses for a while. In his past life, he had read Liu Cixin’s “The Three-Body Problem,” and the last book, “Death’s End,” talked about dimensional warfare. Advanced extraterrestrial beings lowered their own dimensions in order to eliminate their enemies and even used dimensional weapons to two-dimensionalize the Milky Way, ultimately destroying the universe.

Although what Mu mentioned about dimensional warfare was different from “The Three-Body Problem,” it still referred to higher-level beings. Due to the fusion of human and Scorpio genes, sentinels and guides were born, and their common characteristic was the ability to observe higher-dimensional worlds. Could there really be higher-dimensional advanced life forms in this universe? And is the direction of human evolution high-dimensional beings?

Wu Chenghe was ultimately just a medical student. His scientific reserves were completely insufficient for this. The deeper he thought, the more bewildered his eyes became. After a long while of shaking his head, he summed up, “In short, guides are currently the highest level of evolution, right?”

“That’s what I think.” Mu said. Although Wu Chenghe’s expression was somewhat blank, he seemed to understand a bit, indicating that he wasn’t too stupid. “The reason I’m telling you all this is to remind you not to lose yourself just because you’ve slept with your boyfriend and become his appendage.”

“Oh, I see.” Wu Chenghe nodded, understanding finally dawning on him. He nodded twice before suddenly realizing what was being implied. His face immediately flushed. “Who said I want to sleep with him, Dean? Stop jumping to conclusions. We’re in a normal relationship!”

“It’s precisely because it’s normal that you should sleep together. What’s wrong with your head? Eighteen years old and you don’t even know the proper way to be in a relationship?” Mu hated him so much he smacked his head. “You’re about to come of age. He’s a hundred percent compatible with you. Unless you go back to Gabriel and never see him again, every time you see him, you’ll go into estrus. No ifs, ands, or buts about it! Inhibitors and blockers are useless against someone you’re a hundred percent compatible with!”

Damn it, he had just verified this a couple of days ago, fuck!

The triggering of bonding heat starts with the guide. Once a guide senses a compatible sentinel, they release pheromones. If the other party responds to the pheromones, it triggers bonding heat. When encountering a sentinel who is a hundred percent compatible, even strong inhibitors cannot stop the guide from releasing pheromones. Unless the sentinel doesn’t respond, they will inevitably be drawn into the whirlpool of desire by bonding heat.

So once Wu Chenghe comes of age, unless Jin Xuan uses a large dose of balancers to restrain himself from responding to the pheromones, they won’t be able to escape the fate of having sex as soon as they meet. But even if Jin Xuan doesn’t respond, there are other sentinels. Even if their compatibility is slightly lower, they can still smell his scent and respond to him.

So no matter what, Wu Chenghe was screwed.

“Ouch! Stop hitting me!” Wu Chenghe covered his head and scurried away, tears streaming down his face. He had been agonizing over this for days, and in the end, it was all for nothing. He had agreed to “let things happen naturally” with Jin Xuan in the first place, right? —Once it’s “natural,” Jin Xuan certainly wouldn’t use balancers!

What a mess! Wu Chenghe sighed. He had dug himself into a hole long ago and had spent several days foolishly divining… No, studying probabilities, utterly stupid!

Seeing his expression of doom, Mu sighed helplessly. This kid was good in many ways, smart, focused, and open-minded, but he was too clueless in certain aspects. Fortunately, he met someone like Jin Xuan, otherwise he would have been taken advantage of by someone else.

“Get out of here! Just seeing you annoys me.” Mu waved his hand like he was shooing away a fly after seeing him finish cleaning up, “I used to think you were quite pitiful, being chased by Jin Xuan until you were scared shitless. Today I realized it’s him who’s pitiful — he’d probably be more compatible with his lion than with you. Your emotional intelligence is too low, it’s infuriating!”

Wu Chenghe, “Heh.” There was simply no way to argue back…

After sending away the foolish disciple, Mu finished reviewing the remaining lab reports and prepared to leave. Just as he took off his lab coat, his left hand suddenly vibrated, indicating a call from the manager of the sperm bank. He had been wanting a child for the past few years and had been searching for a suitable donor through the sperm bank. As a male, he could only conceive by using another man’s sperm.

“Hello, Mr. Mu.” The manager’s face was full of regret. “I’m really sorry, but there’s been a problem with the sperm donor who matched your criteria.”

“Oh?” Mu was surprised. “What’s the problem?”

A while ago, he had received a notification from the sperm bank after returning from York City, informing him that someone finally met all his criteria and promised to provide enough healthy sperm. To be honest, he had some doubts when he received the notification. After all, he had only experienced bonding heat once. Could this be a trap, with someone trying to test him in this way?

So he hadn’t immediately agreed at the time, only saying that he needed to think about it. But before he could figure it out, everything had fallen apart. Once the psychological gap formed, he somewhat regretted not agreeing earlier.

“He said he couldn’t accept someone of Chinese descent, so he canceled his donation to you.” The manager apologized, “I’m really sorry, we didn’t expect him to have some racial bias.”

“Oh… I see.” Mu was somewhat disappointed, but he quickly adjusted his mindset. “It’s okay, forget about it. I’ll continue to wait.”

After all, he had been waiting for several years already, so waiting a little longer didn’t matter.

“I have a suggestion, Mr. Mu, you might want to consider.” The manager suggested again, “I have an old client who matches 91% of your requirements. Although it’s lower than the 95% you requested, I think if you’re willing, you might as well give it a try.”

“Oh? An old client? You never mentioned him before.” Mu frowned.

The manager explained, “Well, you see, he was transferred to me from a colleague who just resigned. I’ve been looking through his file, and apart from some minor details like hair color that deviate slightly from your requirements, everything else is perfect. You might want to consider it.”

With that, he sent over some documents. Mu carefully reviewed them and found that they were indeed quite in line with his requirements. The 9% difference was in some insignificant conditions. After thinking it over for a few minutes, he decided decisively, “Okay, please contact him. If possible, I’d like to accept the donation as soon as possible.”

“Oh, that’s great!” The manager breathed a sigh of relief. “I’ll contact him right away. Congratulations in advance, Mr. Mu.”

“Thank you.” Mu smiled at him, a rare occurrence. “I’ll be waiting for your message then.”

Mu sighed with relief as he ended the call. He had been worried that the donor might be a decoy sent by someone else, but he hadn’t expected to draw out another person. Since the manager said it was his colleague’s old client, there should be no problem.

“Great, at least those medications I’ve been taking recently haven’t been in vain,” Mu thought, a smirk forming on his lips. With his hands in his pockets, he walked out of the lab. As he descended the stairs, he paused: “Hmm, feels like I’ve gained some weight, my pants are a bit tight.”

Has all this good luck finally arrived? Mu felt in high spirits, but then his thoughts turned to the sentinel who had nearly marked him thirty-two years ago. He was sure he wasn’t an M, but for thirty-two years, that person’s shadow had haunted his dreams. Countless nights, he had woken up from heavy dreams, feeling like he was still lying in that dark cave, in the firm embrace of the other.

“Human bodies are really annoying,” Mu muttered with a slight frown. Despite being terrified at the time, he had almost killed that sentinel on the rocks. Yet after all these years, he still couldn’t forget him, couldn’t forget the indescribable sensation when he was temporarily marked. Once you’ve taken this path, there’s no turning back. Mu sighed inwardly. He was burdened with too much, too heavy to afford such feelings.

Fortunately, Wu Chenghe was much luckier than him. He had encountered Jin Xuan. Young people deserve to be happy too.

After Wu Chenghe had dinner with Kikujiro and the Balon brothers at the dining area, it was getting dark. Hesitating between “going to the library” and “going back to the dorm to sleep,” he decided to follow his inner call and go back to sleep.

Can’t waste the title of “Sleep King”!

Walking back to the dorm, his eyelids were already fighting. Wu Chenghe swiped his card to open the door, stepped inside, and suddenly felt a sense of danger. He looked up, and a huge black shadow swept past his vision, spinning in the living room before landing on the shoulder of a tall figure in front of the window.

Black-and-chestnut eagle!

“Dad?” Wu Chenghe’s drowsiness vanished instantly, surprised. “What are you doing here?”

After the Black Pearl incident, Hannibal had only called him once, and it had always been Yuna updating him on his condition. He thought his adoptive father was too busy to care for him, but he hadn’t expected Hannibal to put aside his work and come to Planet Dunkirk to see him.

Damn, this is his real dad!

Commander Hannibal stood by the French window, looking out. When he saw him coming, he strode over and hugged him tightly, his voice hoarse, “Charlie.”

Wu Chenghe was embraced by him. Hannibal’s body was firm and warm, emitting a familiar yet unfamiliar smell, but it didn’t bring him any sense of security; it made him uneasy—those bright golden eyes of the black-and-chestnut eagle stared at him as if they were going to devour him.

“Dad.” Wu Chenghe patted his back, indicating that he was okay.

Hannibal let go of him, held his shoulders, and looked around for a while before saying, “You’ve lost a lot of weight. Yuna said you’re recovering well, but I think your Dean is talking nonsense. Sigh, I shouldn’t have left you here. I should have taken you back last time I came.”

“It’s not that serious.” Wu Chenghe smiled wryly. “Just unlucky to run into the mercenary group activity. I’m perfectly fine.”

“Don’t lie! Marlow has told me everything.” Hannibal frowned. “How’s the wound on your leg? Let me see.”

“Um…” Wu Chenghe hesitated. His wound was on the upper thigh, a rather awkward position. “It’s healed already, nothing to see, just a scar the size of a fingernail.”

Hannibal reached out and touched through his pants until he felt a small hard lump, asking, “Is it here?”

“Yes.” Wu Chenghe breathed a sigh of relief, glad that Hannibal didn’t ask him to take off his pants. “Just a regular laser gun, passed right through.”

Having fought for many years, Hannibal naturally knew what a laser gun wound was like. For a soldier, it was almost the lightest injury, but to think that it happened to his delicate son… unforgivable! A faint murderous intent flashed in Hannibal’s eyes, but it disappeared quickly, and he returned to his fatherly appearance. He touched his son’s head, pulled him to sit on the sofa, and said, “Sit down, standing too long might affect the wound.”

“It’s okay, it’s basically healed.” Wu Chenghe reassured him.

“Don’t be careless.” Hannibal gently rubbed his hand, paused, and said, “Charlie, what happened this time frightened me. I didn’t expect such a big incident to happen in the capital. I’ve already applied to the Ministry of Education and Aston University to transfer you back to Gabriel.”

“What… what?” Wu Chenghe was astonished, almost unable to believe his ears.

“I came this time to take you back.” Hannibal said, “Your life is under serious threat here, and the Federation and the school have failed to fulfill their obligations, violating the agreement I signed with Mr. Hobart. I have every reason to take you back to the Voyager Army.”

Wu Chenghe looked at him in surprise. Hannibal’s expression was very serious, completely devoid of any joking intent.

“You didn’t discuss this with me before.” Wu Chenghe’s expression also became serious. “For such a big decision, shouldn’t you have consulted me beforehand?”

“I thought you wouldn’t object.” Hannibal said, “I’m your guardian, I promised your mother to take care of you, protect you, and this is entirely for your own good.”

Wu Chenghe remained silent for a moment and said calmly and firmly, “No, I don’t want to transfer. Dad, please withdraw your application immediately. I don’t want to leave Aston Medical School!”

  1. I’ve a feeling this new sperm donor is JZ.
I thought Hannibal had been too quiet; but will he listen to WC?
If he was behind the mercenaries attack, he was the one who almost got his own son killed. He’s such a slime ball.
