Chapter 74: Slaughtering Everywhere

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

At the new recruits training camp, the members of the search team had already left, leaving behind a calm exterior with only a few sentries patrolling in the distance.

Jin Xuan and Wu Chenghe stealthily made their way, avoiding the sentries’ gaze, and soon arrived at the military museum. Jin Xuan once again demonstrated the advantage of being from the Jin family with his skill at picking locks, and in no time, he had disabled the museum’s security system.

The museum was a very spacious rectangular building with a high dome. Inside, various military equipment from different periods of human history were displayed, including clothing, weapons, aircraft, mecha, and more, both real and model replicas, arranged in chronological order, neatly organized.

As the largest military museum of the Voyager Army, many items here were not even found in the national museum of Planet Dunkirk. Jin Xuan wandered around with great interest, pointing to a large, squid-like machine that was entirely black and said to Wu Chenghe, “Look, this is the ‘Sea Sprite II,’ the amphibious super mecha that dominated the Ida Star three hundred years ago! My great-great-great-grandfather was its first pilot. Over three hundred years ago, he, along with my other great-great-great-grandfather, uncovered a spy from the alien scorpion race in Dunkirk Federation’s largest secret base.”

It took Wu Chenghe a moment to understand why Jin Xuan had two great-great-great-grandfathers, so it was a tradition of the Jin family to have polyamorous relationships?

“And this,” Jin Xuan pointed to a model of an aircraft carrier, “when my great-grandmother became a General, these cosmic-level aircraft carriers were still using antimatter propulsion… Unfortunately, this is just a model. The real one would be one-tenth the size of Gabriel.”

Wu Chenghe felt slightly relieved—so his family also had female members?

The descendant of war heroes enthusiastically explained the history of human warfare to his new spouse, as if it were also the history of their family’s rise to prominence. Through this opportunity, Wu Chenghe gained a concrete understanding of the Jin family’s formidable lineage.

Finally, they reached the “Prehistoric Military Exhibition” area at the end of the museum. Nowadays, “prehistoric” didn’t refer to the age of dinosaurs but rather the era before humans migrated to Planet Dunkirk, during the time they lived on Earth. Displayed here were various military equipment used by humans before their migration. Surprisingly, Wu Chenghe saw a nearly new “J-20,” a domestically produced fighter jet, feeling a sense of familiarity.

“They’ve set up a spatial blockade for altitudes ranging from five to fifty meters above ground, so vehicles within this height threshold are unusable,” Jin Xuan frowned. The outer atmospheric layer was only two hundred meters high, so most of the fighter jets in the museum couldn’t fly directly into space and were therefore excluded. Additionally, spacecraft capable of entering space were mostly large in size, so they were also left out. Jin Xuan’s brows furrowed tighter as he contemplated their options.

Just then, he heard Wu Chenghe say, “Let’s drive there.”

Jin Xuan was surprised. “Drive? With a flying saucer? There’s aerial surveillance…”

“No, just prehistoric cars,” Wu Chenghe pointed to a nearly new military all-terrain vehicle in the “Prehistoric Military Exhibition” area. “These cars can go off-road. As long as we avoid the sentries and stick to the ground, we can make it to our destination. They’re less than three meters tall, so they can bypass the aerial blockade.”

Jin Xuan widened his eyes. “These are prehistoric vehicles, with no intelligent control systems. They’re purely mechanical. Nobody knows how to drive them, and I don’t either!”

“…” Wu Chenghe wiped his sweat discreetly. “I do.”

“Do you have a special vehicle driving license?” Jin Xuan asked incredulously. “When did you learn? Why didn’t I know?”

“…I don’t have a license. I’m self-taught.” Wu Chenghe couldn’t explain why he knew how to drive vehicles from over nine hundred years ago, so he gave a vague answer and jumped onto the display platform. Although the all-terrain vehicle was not very large, it was more than enough to carry both of them. As for the model, he hadn’t seen it before, but it seemed to be from a slightly later era than the one he transmigrated from, as the steering wheel and controls were similar.

Thankfully, the military museum had prepared quite comprehensively. To help visitors understand how prehistoric vehicles were driven, there were two barrels of diesel fuel next to the vehicle. Wu Chenghe used a pry bar to open the fuel barrels. These barrels were changed every few years, so some of the fuel had evaporated, leaving only about half. Nevertheless, it was enough for the vehicle.

“The battery is dead. There’s a battery pack over there. Help me borrow some power,” Wu Chenghe directed Jin Xuan to charge the battery and added lubricating oil.

Jin Xuan was dumbfounded by his incredible escape plan and was skeptical. “Are you sure you can drive? Prehistoric vehicles have poor safety features. Although they’re slow, they can still reach speeds of over a hundred kilometers per hour. What if…”

“It’s just over a hundred kilometers per hour,” Wu Chenghe said earnestly. “If the vehicle flips, can you catch me?”

“Of course,” Jin Xuan thought for a moment and felt that there shouldn’t be any problem. After all, a collision at over a hundred kilometers per hour wouldn’t pose much of a threat to him. If anything happened, he just needed to protect Wu Chenghe.

Since they were already in a desperate situation, they might as well try. If worse came to worst, they could use the flying wing to break through the blockade. Bring it on!

With the emo of “fighting against the odds for his beloved” in mind, Jin Xuan fetched a battery pack to charge the battery, while under Wu Chenghe’s guidance, he added oil and water to the vehicle. Wu Chenghe himself was not idle either. He found a hose to fill the fuel tank with diesel, then ignited it and ran the engine for a while to break it in. Finally, he breathed a sigh of relief. “Okay, let’s get in the car.”

Jin Xuan got into the passenger seat, looking at the surroundings curiously. “This car is pretty cool. It’s rough, but it has a steampunk vibe to it, very artistic.”

Wu Chenghe gave Jin Xuan a thumbs up. Turning the key, he ignited the engine and slowly released the clutch, smoothly driving the vehicle off the half-meter high display platform.

The vehicle’s performance was impressive, much better than the ones Wu Chenghe had driven in the UN in his previous life. He tested the gears and quickly got the hang of it. Stepping on the accelerator, the vehicle zoomed out of the military museum.

The ten-speed manual all-terrain vehicle accelerated smoothly. Wu Chenghe shifted gears skillfully. At first, the engine trembled slightly, but after a few minutes, it stabilized, and the noise level decreased to a minimum as they quietly sped along the shadows of the buildings.

Initially, Jin Xuan had no faith that Wu Chenghe could drive the vehicle properly and was prepared to be the hero at any moment. But now, he was completely astounded, watching Wu Chenghe’s skillful shifting, doubting whether the person sitting next to him was the same familiar, silly person.

Wu Chenghe caught a glimpse of Jin Xuan’s amazed expression and felt like he had finally impressed the cool and powerful man from the future.

Jin Xuan quickly regained his composure, accepting the reality that “my wife is an unconventional goofball.” He opened the holographic map to study the route and said, “Let’s go in this direction, through the greenery area. The straight-line distance is only eighty-two kilometers, and we’ll reach in about forty-five minutes.”

The standard transportation in the outer ring military area was airships, and there were no roads on the ground. Outside the airship lanes were various obstacles and green belts. However, their vehicle was all-terrain, capable of easily traversing half-meter-high shrubs, so they didn’t need to worry about road conditions, just bulldoze through.

Wu Chenghe glanced at the map, remembered the general direction, and then activated the scanning function of his consciousness cloud, locking onto the nearby flickering “dots” one by one. He designed a route that bypassed them and without turning on the lights, they sped towards their destination.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Jin Xuan had some free time on his hands. With his left hand holding a ray gun on his thigh, he acted as the lookout for the great driver, while also opening the monitoring software to continue monitoring the internal communication system of the Royal Guards, keeping track of his father-in-law’s latest movements. Occasionally, he would glance at the earnest driver and felt his heart being melted by him: a man who could drive prehistoric vehicles with a steampunk style was so cool!

After driving in the designated direction for over half an hour, Wu Chenghe asked, “Are we close?”

“Still a dozen kilometers away,” Jin Xuan replied, frowning slightly as he monitored, “They found Mu.”

Wu Chenghe’s heart clenched. “How is he?”

“They dare not harm him, they just want to know my whereabouts,” Jin Xuan said, “There are two people from NTU this time, one in the light and one in the dark. My itinerary is confidential, and Hannibal doesn’t know I’m already on Gabriel. But he has guessed that I took you away and is interrogating Mu to get information about my escape plan.”

“Is Dean okay?” Wu Chenghe asked worriedly. “Hannibal… is basically a devil, capable of anything.”

Jin Xuan’s eyes flashed with a hint of ferocity. “Hannibal is just interrogating, he dares not use torture. Mu’s identity is too special, and he’s a strong guide, so he’s not afraid of him.”

“Mu doesn’t know about Hannibal’s… He thinks he’s my father. Will he reveal your plan?” Wu Chenghe asked.

“He won’t,” Jin Xuan said confidently. “Because he doesn’t know… Oh no, someone has spotted us.”

“?” Wu Chenghe’s face changed. “Who?”

“A sentry. He saw our vehicle and was just inquiring about the museum side. He’ll probably catch up soon,” Jin Xuan extended his vision, looking through the greenery towards where he hid his mecha and said, “Forget it, let’s accelerate and rush over. Less than five kilometers to go!”

Wu Chenghe gritted his teeth, floored the accelerator, and shifted to the highest gear, disregarding the risk of exposure. With a loud roar, the engine of the vehicle sounded like an explosion as it shot out like a cannonball!

The Royal Guard legion reacted extremely quickly. Just as the sentry here had inquired, in less than half a minute, the closest searcher piloted an airship and caught up. A beam of light was aimed at Wu Chenghe’s all-terrain vehicle, and through the loudspeaker, a cold voice rang out, “Warning! Stop the vehicle immediately, get out and submit to inspection, or you will be shot on the spot!”

Wu Chenghe paid no attention, slammed the accelerator to the floor, and the vehicle flew over a small hill, crashing heavily into a thicket.

“Shoot on the spot!” The airship transmitted a cold warning tone. Just as the words fell, a bright light flashed, and an electromagnetic cannon fired directly at the all-terrain vehicle! Jin Xuan was already prepared, pulling Wu Chenghe from the driver’s seat, and leaping out of the car window. Before landing, he opened the wings on his back with a “whoosh” sound. The steel wings spread out, generating a fierce airflow, lifting them both into the air just above the ground.

“Boom!” The all-terrain vehicle was blasted into pieces by the electromagnetic cannon, and the remaining diesel in the fuel tank ignited and exploded, sending billowing black smoke into the air.

The atmospheric monitoring system sounded an alarm, and the area was filled with piercing noises. Jin Xuan disregarded the air traffic control and flew forward with Wu Chenghe in tow. In just a few seconds, they reached a low cluster of buildings near the terminal.

The Royal Guard’s airships pursued relentlessly, with the electromagnetic cannon firing at their heels. Jin Xuan, relying on his superb flying skills, glided along the outer walls of the buildings, arriving within tens of meters of their destination. Without time for a safe landing, he released the wings on his back mid-air.

With a height of nearly ten meters from the ground, Jin Xuan held Wu Chenghe in his arms, executed a smooth somersault in mid-air, and rolled several times upon landing, dissipating the momentum. Without even a breath, he asked, “Are you okay?”

Wu Chenghe, held securely in Jin Xuan’s embrace, felt no impact upon landing and replied, “I’m fine.”

“Boom!” The Royal Guard’s electromagnetic cannon hit the out-of-control wings in mid-air, causing a fiery explosion. Jin Xuan glanced at it and then grabbed Wu Chenghe’s hand, running towards a warehouse painted red. “Let’s go!”

The area was filled with warehouses, and the two quickly moved through the shadows of the buildings. The Royal Guard’s airships found it difficult to lock onto them and quickly dispatched several special forces soldiers to parachute from the airships and pursue them.

When Jin Xuan was about three or four meters away from the red-painted gate, he activated his personal terminal, unlocked the access control, and the gate slowly rose, revealing a black giant inside.

It was an unnumbered “Hyena” mecha, space-enhanced type, with attack power considered average in the military combat sequence but extremely agile, almost comparable to the highest-end “Thief Gull” mecha of the Voyager Army.

“Take the number two elevator!” Jin Xuan controlled it remotely with his personal terminal. A small door about a meter high opened under the left foot of the “Hyena.” He pushed Wu Chenghe in and sat him in the memory metal chair, securing the safety belt for him, and said, “Go up and wait for me!”

The hatch closed, and the seat rapidly ascended, quickly bringing Wu Chenghe into the mecha’s control cabin. Through the transparent window on the chest of the “Hyena,” he saw two special forces soldiers enter the warehouse. Jin Xuan had already ambushed them at the door, shooting one in the thigh with a gun, then swiftly tackling the other to the ground and delivering a chop to his neck.

His movements were smooth and ruthless, and he quickly incapacitated the two pursuers without killing them, just temporarily disabling their combat capabilities. Before the second wave of pursuers arrived, he had entered the number one elevator of the “Hyena.” The seat ascended and stopped at a position parallel to Wu Chenghe, giving him a bright smile. “Let’s go!”

Bright green micro-neurons emerged from all sides of the control cabin, like soft hair, wrapping around Jin Xuan. A gentle female voice sounded, “Fusion degree seventy percent, eighty percent… ninety-five percent, one hundred… system activated!”

Jin Xuan’s fingers moved slightly, and the micro-neurons transmitted his commands to various parts of the mecha. The “Hyena” awakened with a roar, its knee joints flexed slightly, and with a nimble leap, it burst out of the warehouse.

The control cabin had stabilizing devices, so Wu Chenghe, sitting in the metal chair, did not feel any bumps despite the “Hyena’s” rapid movements. Jin Xuan was obviously very familiar with this type of mecha. He skillfully issued various commands through the micro-neurons, manipulating it to move quickly between the narrow passages of the warehouses, occasionally aiming the electromagnetic cannon at the airships attempting to ambush them in mid-air and firing projectiles.

Amidst the flames, under the ferocious assault of the “Hyena,” the Royal Guard legion suffered heavy losses. Jin Xuan’s monitoring software remained active, and Wu Chenghe heard their chaotic conversations in the communication system:

“They have a ‘Hyena’! Call for reinforcements!”

“This is a modified ‘Hyena,’ with non-standard weapon systems. It’s very powerful.”

“They’re heading to the port. Intercept them!”

“The firepower of the airships is insufficient. Call for mecha reinforcements!”

The besieged airships gathered more and more, with reports of the battle situation being made within the system and personnel being mobilized. After a while, a familiar male voice solemnly declared, “Advance guard legion, Captain Ivanov commanding, mobilize the ‘Thief Gull’ mecha to intercept the invaders at the port and execute them on the spot!”

Wu Chenghe’s expression turned somewhat grim—throughout Gabriel, only Hannibal could mobilize the advance guard legion and deploy the “Thief Gull” mecha.

When he said “execute them on the spot,” he meant not to let either him or Jin Xuan survive.

Yes, they had seen through his ambition and uncovered his true face. Once they returned alive to the Dunkirk Federation, it would undoubtedly endanger the dignity and authority of his command over the Voyager Army!

Wu Chenghe couldn’t help but grit his teeth. Despite hearing the command, Jin Xuan seemed indifferent, raising an eyebrow and sneering, then manipulating the “Hyaena” mecha to leap up, jumping more than twenty meters high. At the same time, a bright blue flame burst from the rear end of the mecha in mid-air, accelerating abruptly, heading towards the atmosphere—they had reached the port, with the opening of the atmospheric shield directly above them.

A large number of airships chased them relentlessly, but the “Hyaena” was too fast, quickly flying beyond their highest attack altitude. Only when they shook off the top two pursuers did the right foot side engine suffer minor damage.

The advance guard legion was directing the closure of the port’s atmospheric shield. Through the mecha’s control cabin, Wu Chenghe saw a “crack” hundreds of meters above the “sky,” slowly closing, attempting to trap them within the outer military zone of Gabriel.

Jin Xuan, through neural control, loaded the mecha’s speed to its maximum threshold. The black shell of the “Hyaena” rubbed rapidly against the atmosphere, emitting small sparks. The temperature inside the control cabin also rose, but it was still within the range tolerable by the human body. Wu Chenghe did not feel any pain.

Suddenly, the mecha shook, and its speed plummeted. Jin Xuan quickly stabilized the balance and said, “It’s the ‘Thief Gull’!”

The elite members of the advance guard legion drove two “Thief Gull” mechas to catch up. Unlike the “Hyaena,” the “Thief Gull” had a dazzling metallic gray appearance, radiating with a majestic aura. Its size was similar to the “Hyaena,” but its shape resembled a bird with four wings, obviously more suitable for flight.

Facing two pursuers with the command of “execute them on the spot,” Jin Xuan remained calm, quickly allocating energy and installing a long electromagnetic railgun on the legs of the “Hyaena,” firing at the right side “Thief Gull” first!

With a “boom,” the railgun hit the “Thief Gull,” causing atmospheric tremors. The “Hyaena” itself also experienced some fluctuations.

Because the “Thief Gull” had a field protection shield, the shot didn’t damage it but only reduced part of the field’s thickness, slowing down its speed. Jin Xuan took advantage of this, maneuvering the mecha to the right with a slight arc, passing over its head and rushing towards the nearly closed atmospheric “crack.”

The other “Thief Gull” followed closely behind, firing at them. The dense gunfire hit the “Hyaena,” quickly shattering its field protection, but Jin Xuan kept the engines steady, and their speed hardly decreased.

“The right leg is severely damaged and has lost power!” Wu Chenghe exclaimed anxiously. He could observe the mecha’s damage situation through the holographic display on the copilot’s seat.

“It’s better to break free; the crack isn’t wide enough.” Jin Xuan’s voice showed no panic. Seeing the mecha nearing the closing crack, he initiated the “limb detachment” program, directly abandoning the damaged right leg of the “Hyaena.” Then, with a side movement, they flew out of Gabriel, skimming along the edge of the crack.

Entering space, the “Hyaena” swiftly flew away due to inertia. The flames that had been caused by the “Thief Gull” attacks extinguished, emitting a faint black smoke from the wounds. The “Thief Gull,” slightly larger than the “Hyaena,” couldn’t break out of the nearly closed crack and hovered in the atmosphere, waiting for the crack to reopen. This bought them some time. Jin Xuan allocated all remaining energy to the main engine, setting an escape route and said, “We can prepare to leave.”

With that, he disconnected the micro-neurons attached to him and disengaged from the mecha control system, smiling at Wu Chenghe, saying, “Close your eyes, open them dozens of times, and we’ll be safe.”

Wu Chenghe had no interest in playing such childish games; his mind was full of worries about how to deal with this situation—they had destroyed an all-terrain vehicle, blown up a “Wing” glider, and damaged nearly twenty airships, causing chaos in the outer ring port, and it was uncertain if there were any casualties… Oh yes, listening to the snippets of conversation from the advance guard legion’s internal communication system, it seemed like the Military Commission building in the inner ring had also been bombed. Although Jin Xuan didn’t say anything, Wu Chenghe had a gut feeling that this was related to him.

This was going to be a big mess!

Jin Xuan’s god-like face remained as calm as ever, seemingly not considering these issues at all. He operated the life-saving system, lifting both of them and their seats into the escape pod, initiating the “eject” program.

The two escape pods were ejected from the tail of the swiftly flying “Hyaena,” flying out under the influence of inertia. A few seconds later, the remnants of the “Hyaena” abruptly changed direction and left them behind, heading in the nine o’clock direction.

This was not good… Wu Chenghe silently added another item to their list of destruction—the “Hyaena” mecha.

As a bankrupt, he wouldn’t be able to afford the insurance for his whole life. He wondered if Jin Xuan had bought insurance for these things.

Author’s Note: Mr. President cried silently while hugging his piggy bank… The dowry saved for his daughter was squandered by his darn little brother!!!

President: Jin Xuan, you unleashed wild dog!!!

Jin Xuan: The wind is too strong, I can’t hear you…

The President came to pick up his wife, but could only think and not touch, which was very tragic. But as a sadist, torturing himself was his greatest feature!!!
