Chapter 102: Dark Sky Sanctuary (37)

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: GaeaTiamat

“What should we do from now on?” Yu Mengzhou sat next to Falchion, as he scratched his head.

Falchion asked, “How do you plan it?”

“First, I’ll look for an unused horse farm backed up against the mountain,” Yu Mengzhou immediately said. “It’s best if it’s near to a place where people live, so that it’s easy to bring in plumbing and electrical wiring, and it won’t be too troublesome to get furniture…”

“If you’ll allow us, we can utilize the teleportation spells a bit,” Falchion said. “You find a suitable location, while I have Noel and Blasphe explore the world. Then, in the place you’ve chosen, we can build a home that mortals can’t see. What do you think?”

Yu Mengzhou thought for a moment. “Seems…seems pretty simple?”

“It wasn’t that difficult in the first place.” Falchion reached out and gently ruffled his hair. “Is it that they were too rowdy and made you feel anxious?”

“Actually it’s alright,” Yu Mengzhou smiled a little. He looked at the centaurs wandering all over the hillside. “I’m just a little scared.”

“Scared of what?” Falchion asked in surprise.

“I’m afraid that I won’t be able to give you guys a good life. To take good care of you,” Yu Mengzhou said frankly. “I brought you here, so you’re my responsibility now. I can’t…I can’t be a heartless stable owner.”

Falchion laughed.

“Do you really think we’re a bunch of fools?”

“They,” Yu Mengzhou emphasized. “Don’t include you. You’re okay not being counted among the fools.”

“Only where they feel safe do they become what they are.” Falchion accepted Yu Mengzhou’s affirmation with pleasure as he said, “This planet is a bit small in size, but compared to Hell, it’s already considered a vacation paradise. Here, we will never feel uncomfortable. Don’t worry.”

Yu Mengzhou smiled. “Tomorrow, I’ll go and get my documents renewed, then I’ll look for acquaintances and see if there are any suitable venues. Ah, I see. So this is what I have a headache about!”

“What?”

“By my count, my ID card will have to be replaced with one that’s valid for twenty years, and I guess my bank card is now inactive and needs to be reactivated, as well as my various accounts, my cell phone, my calling card…”

He let out a long sigh. “What a pain in the ass.”

“Trouble?” Iron Scepter squeezed over, and just like a magic trick, a dozen gold coins clattered and fell from his hands, like a glittering rain of sunshine, as they streamed into Yu Mengzhou’s arms. “Take it and spend it!”

Yu Mengzhou looked at the gold coins with mixed feelings. “Money is very important, yes, but the currency in circulation here is not gold. Forget it. First, I’ll take it and exchange it for cash tomorrow.”

“I’ll go with you,” Gao’er said. “I need to familiarize myself with these earthly surroundings. I’ve just made a general observation. What’s with all the activities around here? I just saw one drawing spells on the ground and lighting candles as they tried to summon demons.”

“No way?” Yu Mengzhou was surprised. “Male or female? Can they really summon demons?”

“An adult male according to the age of humans.” Gao’er said. “Definitely not. That meager amount of shit wouldn’t even attract a Frightened Lesser Demon, so how could they possibly summon a real demon over? Not to mention the fact that how in the world would a demon come here? Besides us.”

“Oh,” Yu Mengzhou was relieved. “They’re probably just kidding around.”

As he tilted his head, Iron Scepter asked Gao’er skeptically, “That’s it? You did nothing more than watch?”

Gao’er lowered his voice to make sure Yu Mengzhou didn’t hear him, “I just glanced at it and the man’s spell exploded. That’s still okay. It panicked me like I was a thief. What else did you want me to do?”

Iron Scepter thought for a moment and slipped a few gold coins into Gao’er’s arms.

“Humans are quite fond of these. Remember to curry favor using this in case he learns you blew up an adult male.”

Gao’er froze for a moment then suddenly got angry. “I brought more money than you. I don’t need you to lend it!”

It took a while before everyone squeezed into the King’s Tent, and one on top of the other, they slept.

Now that he was back on earth, Yu Mengzhou had no need to share his bed with Falchion. The night was quiet, and the concerns in his heart rose to the top of his thoughts. It caused him to lean against the fur of the centaurs because he was suddenly lost in thought for a moment.

To be completely honest, he had been willing to go to the front lines of battle and fight the Prince of Demons one-on-one a long, long time ago, even before he had clarified his feelings for Falchion. It was like an ant that had dared to go against a maddened male elephant without fear. Where on earth did he get that courage? Where did he get that determination?

In retrospect, could it be that at that time that he was already interested in Falchion…? Uh, no. Falchion was still a Demon Horse, so even if he loved him then, it wasn’t the same love he would have now.

If he thought about it, the moment when his feelings began to change was during Falchion’s confession to him when they were reunited. At that moment, their tears resonated and his heart ached just for Falchion.

So much so, that all the intimate actions that followed – even without the subtle influence of the centaurs – Yu Mengzhou could not attribute it all to demonic temptation. If he hadn’t shed tears for Falchion, if he hadn’t felt pain for him, if he hadn’t felt guilt for him…How could he have accepted things like “absorbing magic with his mouth” without that as a foundation? He was afraid that in a hundred years, it would still be a strange thing for him to think about.

So, Yu Mengzhou hunkered down in Falchion’s fluffy fur and rolled over.

On the list about love that he had imagined in his heart, he lifted his pen, moved to the “pain” column, and made a final check mark.

Love is pain, pleasure, happiness and possessiveness. Even with Yu Mengzhou’s slight understanding of love, he should now be sure that he loved Falchion, right?

–Of course, it wasn’t as intense and crazy as Falchion’s love for him.

He couldn’t sleep. He frowned, deep in thought, while the centaurs watched him in the shadows.

As demons who could naturally look into the heart of a human and flirt with malice, they must have known exactly what was going on inside his head.

Falchion smiled, and in the darkness of the night, he gently stroked the human’s soft short hair, and rested his palm on the back of the other’s neck.

It didn’t matter that Yu Mengzhou didn’t understand his feelings for him. It didn’t matter that he thought his love was the same as that for his family and friends. It didn’t matter that he had never been in a romantic relationship and didn’t understand his own orientation because that wasn’t the point.

What mattered was that Innocent’s pure white heartedness could have easily turned him into an obsessive and rigid person. On the battlefield, Yu Mengzhou would be a fearless fighter, but what about in the love field?

Falchion lowered his head and pressed a kiss, full of love, on his hair.

In the field of love, it was only necessary to quickly and resolutely stir up his heart, so that he would move close to him in the confusion. Then he would slowly come to realize, and be firmly convinced, that the object of his love had always been the Demon Horse named Falchion.

“Go to sleep,” he whispered. “You have to get up early tomorrow, don’t you?”

Yu Mengzhou gave a vague “hmmm.” He was completely sure of himself now, and as if he had unraveled a tangled knot, he soon fell into a peaceful sleep.

.

The next day, Yu Mengzhou woke up, and the first thing he did was to go to replace his documents.

As a person who had disappeared for several years, but now suddenly appeared, there would always be someone who would come to check up on him or her.

“I’ll give you a brooch,” Noel said as he pinned a gold brooch onto Yu Mengzhou’s collar. “It can confuse the sights and thoughts of intelligent beings. This way, even if they sense something unusual about you, they won’t think there’s anything wrong with it, much less purposely give you a hard time.”

“…It’s still a cognition-altering type of spell, ah.” Yu Mengzhou poked the brooch with his finger. “Ugh. Well, it’s kind of a no-brainer.”

After they determined the plan for their tasks, the centaurs grouped up in twos and threes, as they prepared to familiarize themselves with the Earth’s surroundings.

Falchion accompanied Yu Mengzhou, while Gao’er followed behind. With Noel’s brooch, he was able to get things done with half the effort. His rental house would have been rented out to someone else by the landlord a long time ago, so naturally, his account book was nowhere to be found. The only thing he could get was a labor stipend and two headshots, but with the brooch on, none of that was a problem.

In the police station, Yu Mengzhou took the time to look at the present date. Counting from the day he left, as of now it had been four years.

What a time difference. One year alive in Hell and one hundred years as a soul in limbo…He sighed in his heart.

After he replaced his documents, he used the money he exchanged for the gold coins to buy a cell phone and a phone card. He intended to arrange for the centaurs to have some of humanity’s technological wizardry as well, but Falchion took one look at the cell phone screen and flashed his sharp nails.

“This,” he told him truthfully. “Will shatter at our slightest touch.”

Yu Mengzhou had to give up.

On the street, the two centaurs covered themselves with a magical barrier so that they and the pedestrians on the street seemed to be in a parallel time and space. They were able to walk on the street unimpeded. Exempting the ground, the passersby, the railings, the trees, and the roofs of the stores…they went right through without touching any of them. Yu Mengzhou looked at the scene, and only felt magical.

Gao’er was very interested in the sight of the traffic on the street. He asked, “Your cars run very fast here without magic. Have you developed another energy system?”

“If oil and hydroelectricity count as other energy systems, it would be correct to say so,” Yu Mengzhou replied.

After a few more moments, Yu Mengzhou saw a tanghulu seller on the street, so he took one in each hand and ate them while walking forward in a lazy manner.

Falchion ate one well, chewing quietly and not speaking. Gao’er took a bite of his strawberry tanghulu and commented appreciatively. “Not bad. A rare sweet treat in hell. What kind of eating style do you guys have here? Sweet on top of sweet?”

Yu Mengzhou laughed, “Sure. Let’s call it sweet on top of sweet.”

Having finished his stroll down the street, Yu Mengzhou looked at the skyscrapers in the distance and decided it was time to face his biggest problems of the moment: finding acquaintances from his past, muddling through the questions about what he’d been up to for the past few years, and then moving on to establishing the location of the stables.

“Come on.” He mentally prepared himself. “I’ve got to go meet Master Hu.”
