Chapter 64: A God’s Marriage (35)

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: GaeaTiamat

The subsequent developments, Yun Chi recalled in hindsight, were a complete mess.

Sa’gya had fallen to the bottom of the sea with him in his arms. Tumultuous tsunamis were still raging around the continent, glaciers were collapsing, earthquakes, hurricanes, and volcanoes were causing secondary disasters that wouldn’t stop, and the Goose River in Dhanera was bursting at the seams with a sudden surge of souls, while the temple of the God of the Underworld was in shambles, and even the gods couldn’t help but cry out for help.

At that moment, the Mother Goddess and the Sea God – the golden body of the first generation – belatedly arrived and descended from the void into the world of mortals.

The Sea God of the First Generation stopped the ice sea, which had been unleashing its brutality and its nature, then gathered it back to a state of calm, while the Mother Goddess carried back to earth the spirits that had been struggling in the Goose River, whether they were human beings, animals, plants, elves, evil spirits, or monsters, and brought everything back to the time before the catastrophe occurred. The land was reunited, the volcanoes were silenced, and the broken islands were once again intact…

“I hope this is the last time,” Irma admonished. “And don’t make me reflect on whether or not I made a good decision in giving you joy and sorrow in the first place!”

The gods all hung their heads submissively. The Winter Goddess carried Roche’s head, but hid his body behind her back, her throat rolling slightly. She didn’t speak.

Yun Chi was forced to lie on Sa’gya’s belly – his hold was too tight, it had to be said – and laboriously looked up at the Maiden of Creation in the sky.

“As for you…” Irma turned to the small white dot floating on the surface of the sea, and sent a hidden voice into Yun Chi’s ears, “It’s all up to your choices as to what you want to do with the divine system going forward.”

Huh? Yun Chi froze. Look at the choices? How to look at it? Do we let the little sea otters all get laid off and re-employed?

Still without a detailed answer, after sending this warning, Irma took the first generation Sea God and proceeded to go back to the Void to retire comfortably.

However, once the West Wind, who had gotten out of jail, returned them to their island, Yun Chi did not forget the other accomplice besides Roche, Berthia, the Goddess of Dreams.

Instead of Sa’gya, he issued a punitive order to the dream goddess, who came to apologize with her tail between her legs – since the storm was caused by you and Roche, and you like to mess around in other people’s dreams so much, you will be responsible for soothing and healing the psychological trauma of the hundreds of millions of affected beings, and you will only be allowed to let people have beautiful dreams for the next three months. How about that? Let everyone have beautiful dreams, how about it?

Berthia gave a grin that was worse than a cry, and even though the job would leave her paralyzed and exhausted, her life was saved after all. At that point, the commission was far better than the unlucky Roche.

“Here, open your mouth, ah-” Yun Chi sat on the soft belly of the white sea otter, took a spoon, scooped up the bowl of medicine and passed it to his mouth.

The wind and water turned! Sa’gya was the one who had taken care of the seriously injured human, now it was Yun Chi’s turn to take care of the seriously injured sea otter. Sa’gya’s fur was covered with bandages. According to reason, the fur near the injury should be shaved off so that the wound could recover better and faster, but it was a god’s body. Where could he find a shaving tool of such strength? So they had to give up and wrap the herbs in cloth alone, it was just a good thing all the bandages Yun Chi had used were still intact.

Sa’gya kept his mouth shut, not wanting to take the medicine.

Yun Chi said helplessly, “I used to take my medicine obediently, why don’t you?”

“Uh-huh.” Sa’gya tilted his head in a boneheaded manner. The whiskers on his cheeks moved around, but he didn’t open his mouth.

Yun Chi really had no choice. At first, he just sat on the edge of the bed to feed him. Later, Sa’gya grunted, wasn’t satisfied, and wanted Yun Chi to sit on his belly to feed him, and then, not only to sit on his belly, but also to coax him. It wasn’t until yesterday that Yun Chi took a bite out of the increasingly demanding sea otter’s face, and Sa’gya was dumbfounded. He immediately opened his mouth in a daze and allowed Yun Chi to pour it in spoonful after spoonful.

Then came today, and he immediately had a new request.

I’m so mad at you. What a hateful sea otter. How dare you do whatever you want just because you’re so cute…

As if he knew what Yun Chi was thinking, Sa’gya turned his face to him and squinted his eyes, then curled his mouth and twitched his whiskers into a sweet, silly smile.

Yun Chi ground his teeth as he shouted towards the kitchen, “Boil another bowl!”

Several round sea otter heads sprang up in the kitchen doorway, as if they were copies of Sa’gya, only several sizes smaller.

At that command, the little sea otters immediately got busy, pounding pots and boiling water, while the biggest one was in charge of straightening up, clutching a spoon, and stirring at the side of the pot.

“Well, you wouldn’t eat it anyway, so I have to go to the kitchen and watch the fire.” Yun Chi faked putting the bowl down to get off Sa’gya.

“Uh-uh!” The sea otter was immediately anxious. He wrapped his arms around Yun Chi’s waist and whispered, “Don’t go. Don’t go, okay?”

Yun Chi looked at him without mercy. “Then drink the medicine.”

When he saw that Sa’gya was going to be a firm and unyielding childish ghost again, Yun Chi sighed and said, “Drink the medicine once, and get a kiss in exchange. Do you want to do it?”

Sa’gya immediately hugged the bowl of medicine and gulped it all down.

Yun Chi helplessly leaned down and kissed him on his furry face. “Okay, satisfied now?”

Sa’gya hugged him contentedly, his joy overflowing.

Maybe it was really the after-effects of the scare, but during the past few days of recovery on the island, Sa’gya never let Yun Chi out of his sight and kept using the excuse of “wound pain” to keep Yun Chi close to him. Then, in order to prevent his person from running around, he even released a batch of little sea otters that specialized in helping with household chores, releasing Yun Chi from helping with the housework and in Yun Chi’s words, “began to employ child labor.”

Yun Chi lay on top of Sa’gya, Sa’gya lay on the bed, then one person and one otter slept for half a day like Jenga, when Yun Chi suddenly asked, “By the way, you haven’t told me what the God of the Time really told you.”

Sa’gya and Yun Chi had returned to the island, and the inexplicable drama about the “Bride of God” came to an end. Only Yun Chi didn’t realize that for something as big as the Mother Goddess’ prophecy, Sa’gya had actually forgotten it when he said he would.

“Because words are magic!” Sa’gya was really aggravated by Yun Chi grabbing his ears. “A word is a promise that must be fulfilled, and since I said it, I definitely fulfilled it. It’s not a joke.”

As for Time God’s reply, it was an arcane one that Yun Chi hadn’t considered either.

“Time is a complex concept, and even the Mother Goddess who created the world is not in a good position to interfere with it too much,” Yo’kamanin explained to Sa’gya. “So She chose one of the simplest methods of honoring Her promise. The human that is born on a different world and comes to Kaleva, his time will stand relatively still here, and yet that relative stillness will be almost as long as an eternity. And, of course, it is because of this that his unchanging soul is able to bear the weight of eternity as a god would.”

“In other words, you are in a sense a personal divine soul,” Sa’gya said. “No native human of Kaleva, unlike you, could do that.”

“So…There’s no way for a newborn god to choose the so-called ‘Bride of God’ even if he put his life on the line, right?” Yun Chi asked.

Sa’gya nodded. “Even though I forgot the Mother Goddess’s prophecy, it was eventually passed down and mutated to an outrageous degree.”

When he thought about that, Yun Chi said, “By the way, there is something else I haven’t told you…”

He explained to Sa’gya in detail about the Winter Goddess’ execution of Roche, and Yun Chi said sadly, “In that case, those rumors were really spread by her, and she still ended up becoming Lord God. What should we do about it then?”

“Do you want to hold her accountable and get a new Winter God?” Sa’gya asked softly as he brushed his sideburns.

Yun Chi thought for a moment and said frankly, “If she really did start it, then I definitely can’t swallow this dumb loss, but all of this is just speculation. We still need to put in some effort and find concrete evidence. What’s more, after all the fuss, it’s too much to replace the only Goddess of Winter…It’s also too eye-catching to be going into seclusion.”

Sa’gya mused for a moment, “I know.”

“You know?” Yun Chi curiously went to press his wet black nose. “You know what?”

“In fact, the delay in the birth into the world of the goddesses of the remaining three seasons should have something to do with the Winter Goddess. Find something for her to do while she is still far away from her position as the Main God.”

Sa’gya let out a low whine and three little sea otters stuck their heads out from under the bed and looked sleepily at the big sea otter.

“Geez, why did you guys sleep down there?”

Sa’gya purred and commanded something. The little sea otters couldn’t stop nodding frequently, and when they finished talking, the three of them licked Yun Chi’s hand and jumped off the bed in pursuit of each other, arching all the way out the door.

“What did you say to them?” Yun Chi wondered.

“To go to the burial place of the three generations of the Spring, Summer and Autumn Goddesses,” Sa’gya said slowly. “The first step in taking over divine power requires retrieving their tokens. The third generation of the Sea God…Because I was so angry at the time, I swallowed Him whole, so until now, the ice sea has been unable to spawn a new Sea God.”

Yun Chi asked, “Do you want them to be gods?”

“The most intolerable thing for those in power is to have their own power apportioned and removed.” Sa’gya rubbed his face. “The Winter Goddess has been alone for too long, and her ambitions have been cultivated and brewed for too long. Let her learn a lesson. In a few days, I’ll take a few more with me and look for the bodies of the other three generations of gods…The Divine Spectrum has withered for so long, it is time to prosper once again.”

Yun Chi smiled and said, “What about you?”

“Me?” Sa’gya froze, “What about me?”

“What are you going to do from now on?” Yun Chi looked at him. “It’s not just going to be on the island, sunrise and sunset, is it?”

Sa’gya laughed. He hugged Yun Chi, gently bit his cheek and said, “Work at sunrise, sleep at sunset. This is also very good. As long as you are there, doing anything is very good.”

The sky outside the window was bright and clear and cloudless, while inside, the little sea otters clanked and pounded for a while, reboiling a fresh bowl of medicine and bringing it to the bedside in a cart.

“Chi!”

Drink medicine!

Yun Chi, “…”

Sa’gya, “…”

The two unscrupulous parents who had forgotten all about this long ago looked at each other face to face, and again to the little sea otters’ eyes that changed dramatically from disbelief, to skepticism, to accusation. Yun Chi wordlessly picked up the bowl of medicine and handed it to Sa’gya.

“So what…” He coughed twice. “Take, take the medicine.”

Sa’gya blinked silently and looked at his bride, quiet for a long moment before giving a determined, rather rigid tilt of his head.

“Uh-huh.” Sa’gya said.

A scheming Goddess can’t be good in the highest position; especially one that sacrifices her own (albeit vile) brother.
Sa’gya reduced to putty 😆
