Chapter 50: The Two Evolved Little Buns

There were a total of seven rounds in the 1v1 examination. Inside the VIP room, everyone perked up again. It was impossible for every student to go easy on Yun Yingzhi. As long as even one ambitious student appeared, Yun Yingzhi’s carefully crafted persona would crumble.

Emperor Jarren, Jia Qingwan, and the others waited patiently, hopeful, for Yun Yingzhi’s next six battles. It was only the beginning—there was no need to rush.

They watched the other students fight. Each one yearned for victory with fierce determination, and the quality of the battles was remarkably high. Everyone thought, Yes, this is what a real fight should look like.

Little Kit suddenly cried out, “Da-da-da!” Still nestled in the Imperial Consort’s arms, he waved his tiny paws in excitement. Before the Imperial Consort could even ask, Jia Qingwan beat her to it. “Yinghui, what’s Jiaojiao saying?”

Yun Yinghui paused for a moment before answering, “He said, ‘Zhizhi is the strongest.’”

Everyone in the room exchanged complicated glances—first at Yun Yinghui, then at Little Kit, and finally at the projection of Yun Yingzhi on the screen. From a certain point of view, they felt Little Kit wasn’t entirely wrong. If beauty alone could conquer the starry seas, Yun Yingzhi certainly could. He was someone who could fight with his face.

But then again, even if they didn’t know the full extent of Yun Yingzhi’s combat ability, they were sure he wasn’t as weak as Fansa Academy’s students believed. After all, to the countless netizens across the Star Network, he was a true fighter through and through. They just didn’t know how strong he really was.

The next moment, they heard Yun Yinghui—whose protective brotherly filter was thicker than ever—let out a quiet sigh. “I was worried Zhizhi would get bullied, but thankfully his classmates seem…” He stopped, realizing he had said too much. Still, everyone understood his implication. Thankfully, Zhizhi’s classmates know their place. This brother complex was truly beyond saving.

With those complicated feelings lingering in the air, Yun Yingzhi’s second battle soon began. Aside from Yun Yinghui, who remained anxiously worried, everyone—including Little Kit and Little Egg—was full of anticipation.

Jia Qingwan and the others straightened in their seats, hoping Yun Yingzhi would finally reveal his true strength. They couldn’t wait to see the Fansa Academy students realize that the person they had been protecting for over ten years wasn’t just a pretty face.

The two Little Buns, however, were excited for a simpler reason—they genuinely believed that Yun Yingzhi was unbeatable. Little Kit waved his small paws from the Imperial Consort’s arms, squealing, “Da-da-da! Aoo! Da!”

Little Egg bounced in Emperor Jarren’s hands, spinning in circles, equally thrilled. Jia Qingwan asked, “Yinghui, what are Jiaojiao and Taotao saying now?”

“Jiaojiao said, ‘You weak little buns, watch and see how amazing Daddy Zhizhi is!’” Yun Yinghui explained. Then he glanced at Little Egg and added, “Tatao said, ‘You weak little buns, just wait—my daddy can take all of you down by himself!’”

Everyone: “…”

Honestly, they believed Yun Yingzhi was capable enough—but even so, those two Little Buns had far too much faith in their dad. Under their collective silence, Yun Yingzhi’s second match finally began.

Everyone: “…”

The fight started fast—and ended just as fast. To put it bluntly, the second battle was almost identical to the first. The opponent was different, but the pattern was exactly the same. Even more exasperating was that the three instructors gave nearly identical evaluations.

The two Little Buns jumped for joy. Little Kit rested his chubby face in his paws, surrounded by a bubbly aura of happiness. “Da-da-da!”

Before anyone could ask, the human translator Yun Yinghui spoke up. “Jiaojiao said, ‘My daddy really is the best daddy ever.’” He looked at Little Egg. “Taotao’s trying to argue.”

Everyone felt he must’ve misunderstood. Regardless of how questionable the fighting style was, Yun Yingzhi had won. As a proud daddy’s boy, what could Little Egg possibly have to argue about? But it turned out Yun Yinghui wasn’t wrong at all. Little Kit, his expression full of righteous fury, glared fiercely at the Little Egg in Emperor Jarren’s hands. “Aoo!”

Everyone: “…”

Jia Qingwan couldn’t understand. “Why? Taotao shouldn’t be arguing with Jiaojiao, should he?”

Everyone silently agreed. Yun Yinghui said, “Taotao isn’t arguing with Jiaojiao’s daddy—he’s arguing for his daddy.”

Everyone: “…” They had completely overlooked that tiny but crucial detail.

Before long, Yun Yingzhi’s next two battles took place—and they were exactly the same as the first two. Yun Yinghui nodded in satisfaction. Jia Qingwan and the others exchanged glances, feeling extremely conflicted. At noon, they all ate lunch together.

Three rounds of the 1v1 exam remained. The morning matches had been filled mostly with weaker students. Since Yun Yingzhi had already won four rounds in a row, his remaining opponents that afternoon were expected to be progressively stronger.

The stronger the students, the more they cared about their scores. Everyone thought there was a real chance Yun Yingzhi might finally trip up—and honestly, they were looking forward to it. With that mix of anticipation and curiosity, the afternoon combat exams began.

Jia Qingwan’s eyelid twitched. “Um…” she began, hesitant.

Nangong Qing asked, “What is it?”

Jia Qingwan glanced from Yun Yinghui to Yun Yingzhi. “Maybe it’s just my imagination, but… This morning, Yingzhi already looked fragile. Now that it’s afternoon, he looks…” Even more so. He somehow looked softer. Even more delicate. Yun Yinghui frowned deeply, his tone full of genuine concern. “Is Zhizhi feeling unwell?”

Everyone: “…”

Little Kit sniffled, pressing his chubby cheeks between his tiny paws as two tears pooled in his eyes. “Qaq-da-da.”

Everyone suddenly had the illusion that they understood him. It was as if he were saying, Daddy, are you hurt somewhere? Even Little Egg started looking worriedly at the projected image of Yun Yingzhi. Unable to resist, Yun Yinghui sent his brother a private message:

Yun Yinghui: Zhizhi, are you feeling alright today?

Almost immediately, Yun Yinghui received a reply: Very good.

Yun Yinghui: Are you feeling unwell anywhere?

Yun Yingzhi: …Actually, I’m a little upset.

Yun Yinghui: What happened?

Yun Yingzhi: During my lunch break, I checked StarNet, and more people said I was violent. But, brother, you know, I’m not that kind of person.

Yun Yinghui: Don’t overthink it. You’re not. Zhizhi has always been well-behaved.

Yun Yingzhi: Yeah, I just thought… after the final exams, I’m going to refine the limited space imprint as contestant A13167. How am I going to explain to the Source Weapon Association what kind of person I really am, since it’s not what they imagine?

Yun Yinghui: It’s okay. You don’t need to worry about that.

Jia Qingwan asked, “Yinghui, is Yingzhi alright?”

Yun Yinghui replied, “It’s nothing. He just saw other people’s random guesses on StarNet and got a little upset.” Everyone thought, It’s nothing serious.

In the afternoon, Yun Yingzhi’s fifth 1V1 match finally began. The fragile little white rabbit lit up a fire-ring skill again, and the battle ended. There was no suspense—he won easily. The sixth and seventh matches were the same. It was clear now that there was no chance of failure. The 1V1 exam was over. The entire VIP room was quiet.

No one knew how much time had passed before the Imperial Consort broke the silence, saying, “The 1V1 battle can manipulate space extensively, but team battles cannot proceed in the same way.”

Everyone’s spirits lifted. It made sense. Yun Yingzhi could easily win today’s 1V1 battles, but tomorrow’s team battle would be a different story. They agreed to watch again tomorrow and then dispersed.

To avoid letting Yun Yingzhi notice that they had been secretly observing his fights, Yun Yinghui, under the displeased looks of the little kit and little egg, quickly parted from the group and took both Little Buns back to the hospital.

Not long after returning to the hospital, Yun Yingzhi came back. The Yun Yingzhi who had returned from the exam radiated joyful little bubbles all over, clearly very happy. The two Little Buns were thrilled to see Yun Yingzhi return after seven consecutive victories and excitedly pounced on him. Yun Yingzhi kissed the little kit, then kissed the little egg.

In the blink of an eye, it was the last day of December, the day of the final exam for the Battle Department at Fansa Academy. Yun Yingzhi once again went to Fansa Academy early. Yun Yinghui met up with Emperor Jarren and the others, and they gathered once more in the VIP room.

They thought, Forget the 1V1 battle. There’s no reason Yun Yingzhi should be able to maintain his persona in the team battle without breaking.

If Yun Yingzhi could still maintain his persona in this situation, then they would see just how he managed it. With their anticipation, the team battle finally began. 25V25. The two teams stood at opposite ends of the arena.

The moment the teacher, acting as referee, shouted, “Battle begins,” the vast majority of students transformed into their second forms.

Yun Yinghui and the others immediately focused on Yun Yingzhi. Yun Yingzhi transformed into a little white rabbit. As Yun Yingzhi transformed, the little kit in Imperial Consort’s hand made a happy “da” sound. He seemed very proud to share the same second form as his father, looking proudly at the little egg in Emperor Jarren’s hand. Little egg silently twirled half a turn in Emperor Jarren’s hand, then spun back.

On the video projection, the moment Yun Yingzhi transformed into his second form, a student said, “Yingzhi, go to the back.” The little white rabbit moved swiftly to the back upon hearing this.

Then…

Then…

A student whose second form was a raptor lifted Yun Yingzhi onto their back. Yun Yingzhi didn’t need to do anything; a student with a wood-type esper used their power to toss him onto the raptor’s back. It seemed very familiar to Yun Yingzhi. The little white rabbit didn’t resist at all.

The two teams’ fierce battle began. But, wherever Yun Yingzhi was, enemy students avoided him completely, not harming him in the slightest.

There was a saying: “When the opponent doesn’t attack me, I feel embarrassed to attack them.” It was like in 1V1 battles, Yun Yingzhi at least used a fire-ring skill, but in a group fight, he didn’t need to release even one.

Everyone watched the battle with subtle expressions. They felt that among a group of ferocious beasts, the little white rabbit—the herbivore—was like a cute mascot, just along for the ride.

Suddenly, everyone’s attention snapped! At that moment, it seemed like the little white rabbit was about to fall! Jia Qingwan clenched both fists excitedly.

The raptor carrying Yun Yingzhi flew too wildly, and since the little white rabbit might not have held on tightly, he fell directly from midair. However, an esper soldier from the opposing team reacted extremely quickly, jumped, and caught Yun Yingzhi precisely. Clearly, the little white rabbit had experienced similar situations before and remained extremely calm throughout.

But…

None of that mattered. What mattered was that in this back-and-forth, Yun Yingzhi, all alone as a little rabbit, had fallen straight into the enemy’s stronghold!

Emperor Jarren and the others thought, Now, even if Yun Yingzhi’s being lazy, he should spring into action and figure out a way back to his own team, right?

Their spirits soared. At that moment, they even held their breaths, eyes wide, unwilling to blink for fear of missing the highlight of the little white rabbit escaping back to his camp.

Everyone: “!”

One second passed.

Everyone: “…”

Three seconds passed.

Everyone: “…”

Ten seconds passed.

Jia Qingwan held back as long as she could but couldn’t, and said, “I just have to say… I’m utterly shocked right now.”

Everyone else thought the same. They were just as shocked as Jia Qingwan, even more so than yesterday. From Yun Yingzhi’s current performance, it was obvious that being a lone little white rabbit running into enemy territory was something he had quite a bit of experience with.

Sure enough, the little white rabbit was just along for the ride. He didn’t panic at all, and he didn’t need to. He was being carried by a massive black panther. The panther tossed Yun Yingzhi onto its back and continued moving at high speed. This time, Yun Yingzhi’s reaction was… well, reasonably fast. The little white rabbit grabbed the panther’s fur and then… lay down. He lay down.

The fierce battle raged on, but it didn’t affect the little white rabbit at all inside the enemy camp. The team battle ended after roughly half an hour. Yun Yingzhi’s team was fortunate enough to win.

The little white rabbit hopped happily—really, he only hopped once. If it weren’t for the people whose eyes were glued to him, no one would have even noticed.

There were four group battles in total. It could only be said that whether it was Yun Yingzhi or the students teaming up with him, everyone had become extremely skilled. Jia Qingwan couldn’t hold back and said, “They all look so used to this.”

Jin Taichu looked at Jia Qingwan and voiced everyone’s thoughts: “They really should be used to it. If nothing unexpected happened, Yingzhi probably met them back in kindergarten.”

Everyone: “…” In other words, since kindergarten, Yun Yingzhi had breezed through exams with his classmates giving him full leeway. It was… truly impressive. And his path to success was something no one else could replicate.

After a brief silence, Jia Qingwan said, “I really want to see Yingzhi flip…”

With Yun Yinghui’s subtle intervention, Jia Qingwan fell silent. That didn’t stop her from quietly typing the last words in the group chat: “I really want to see baby Zhizhi fail.” Then, it was just a string of 1 1 1…

Yun Yingzhi, fragile, incapable of self-care, little white rabbit—he successfully survived the final exams with the help of his classmates. He patted his chest. Exams were over, and he let out a genuine sigh of relief. He knew that compared to the practical combat exam, the written test was far more difficult for him. Still, he always worried he might have to repeat a year.

The combat students were all extremely strong. If they took things seriously, he wouldn’t have stood a chance. In any case, he had safely made it through the semester finals, and that was excellent.

His three roommates asked Yun Yingzhi to thank the mysterious Source Weapon maker, since the Source Weapons he provided had helped all three of them achieve excellent results this semester. Yun Yingzhi promised he would convey their thanks.

After the exams, Yun Yingzhi reunited with Yun Yinghui. According to the hospital’s assessment, Yun Yingzhi was now cleared to take the two little hatchlings home. Yun Yinghui took Yun Yingzhi to their new home. To Yun Yingzhi’s surprise, their new house was fairly close to Fansa Academy—about a fifteen-minute drive—and located in a well-known wealthy district.

Their villa was in the very center of the area. It had an enormous plot, a private swimming pool, three major sports courts, separate indoor and outdoor training grounds, full training facilities, and even a Source Weapon workshop… It was even bigger than General Yun’s estate.

Yun Yingzhi looked at Yun Yinghui in shock. He knew Yun Yinghui’s financial situation well. Right now, Yun Yinghui should be poorer than him. How could he afford a place like this?

Yun Yinghui seemed to notice his confusion and said, “It was a gift from His Majesty.”

“Why?”

“Because Zhizhi gave the Empire the limited space imprint, and because you agreed to help the Source Weapon Association optimize it. This is His Majesty’s reward to you.”

Yun Yingzhi immediately became wary. “But I competed anonymously!” He didn’t want anyone to know he was the so-called “combat prodigy.” If his true identity was revealed someday, he feared he’d ruin his reputation. Worse, people would probably be disappointed seeing how fragile he really was. He had let them down; he was just a weak little white rabbit.

Yun Yinghui said, “Yes, so it was given to me, and I transferred it to your name.” Hearing this, Yun Yingzhi relaxed instantly.

That evening, the little kit perched on his shoulder, occasionally nuzzling his face, and he carried the incubator in his arms as he walked around the perimeter of the new house for over an hour before returning inside the villa. After dinner, he stared at Yun Yinghui, lost in thought.

Yun Yinghui asked, “Zhizhi, what’s wrong?”

Yun Yingzhi blinked, paused, and said, “I didn’t realize it before, but I heard there’s a property fee here, charged by area.”

Yun Yinghui: “…”

Yun Yingzhi’s voice trembled slightly: “Brother, it sounds kind of expensive.”

Yun Yinghui said, “Don’t worry, I’ll figure something out.”

Yun Yingzhi thought, Liar. Brother’s not working anymore. How could he figure anything out?

At that moment, Yun Yingzhi was still worried about the property fee. The next moment, he was pulled back to reality by two Little Buns fighting again. He grabbed one in each hand and forcibly separated them. Even so, it didn’t stop the Little Buns from wanting to fight.

The little kit looked at the little egg and growled, “Ao!” The little egg, unable to speak, struggled angrily, trying to reach the little kit. Yun Yingzhi held each firmly in his hands. He remained calm. The two could at most exchange a few words of protest, and Yun Yingzhi couldn’t understand a single one.

Yun Yingzhi: “…” Huh?

What puzzled Yun Yingzhi was that the two Little Buns… had evolved again. Their fighting spirit was undiminished. The little egg, like His Highness Elvis, awakened as a space-and-lightning ability, while the little kit awakened as a fire ability. However, compared to their previous awakening, their lightning and fire powers were a bit weaker.

A nail-sized arc of electricity struck toward the little kit. A nail-sized fireball attacked the little egg. It all happened so suddenly that by the time Yun Yingzhi, holding one in each hand, reacted… The little egg’s pearly shell had a small blackened patch, and the little kit had a singed tuft of fur.

Yun Yingzhi was shocked. The two Little Buns that had been hit were equally stunned. Yun Yinghui’s eyelids twitched violently as he watched the restless Little Buns. Finally, the little kit and little egg recovered from their shock. The little kit looked at the little egg in Yun Yingzhi’s other hand and growled, “Ao!” The little egg angrily threw a small lightning arc. The little kit angrily threw a small fireball.

Yun Yingzhi couldn’t hold back any longer. Furious, he shouted, “You two, stop messing with Daddy’s assistants!”

With a wave of his hand, Yun Yinghui’s ice barrier intercepted the little electric arcs and fireballs completely. The two Little Buns were still angry, worked up, and still wanted to fight.

Yun Yingzhi first placed the little egg into Yun Yinghui’s hand, then poked the little kit with his finger. “Did Daddy ever tell you not to bully Taotao?”

Confronted directly, the little kit’s eyes immediately welled up with tears. His tiny paws covered his head, and he looked at Yun Yingzhi with a weak, helpless expression.

Yun Yingzhi poked the little kit again, scolded him a couple of times, then handed him over to Yun Yinghui. He took the little egg back, tapped its eggshell, and shouted, “Little Bun, do you realize you haven’t even hatched yet? How can you be so mischievous, fighting with your brother every day, hmm?”

The little egg wobbled, looking as if the scolding from Daddy was too much to bear, nearly cracking its fragile shell in despair. Yun Yingzhi softened again. He handed the little egg back to Yun Yinghui. Now Yun Yinghui held one in each hand. Yun Yingzhi looked at the two little ones and continued scolding them. Yun Yinghui’s eyelids twitched. Yun Yingzhi poked the two Little Buns again, muttered, “I’m going out to cool off,” and then left the room.

The living room was left with only Yun Yinghui and the two pitiful, scolded Little Buns. Yun Yinghui frowned slightly and placed the two Little Buns on the floor. Almost immediately, the little kit, looking panicked, clutched one of Yun Yinghui’s legs, while the little egg pressed against the other.

Yun Yinghui had only set them down, hoping the little kit would hug the little egg to encourage some sibling bonding. He hadn’t intended to make the two Little Buns panic. He looked down at the two Little Buns clinging to his legs, worried that any movement might hurt them, and froze in place.

The Little Buns looked up at Yun Yinghui helplessly. About ten seconds later, the little kit tentatively climbed up Yun Yinghui’s leg, hugging it, with the little egg following behind. One after the other, they crawled along Yun Yinghui’s clothing and slipped inside.

Remarkably, the two Little Buns didn’t fight inside his clothes. For once, they were harmonious, both clinging to his collar and peeking out, probably searching for Yun Yingzhi.

Meanwhile… Yun Yingzhi, who had gone out for some fresh air, grew angrier the more he thought about it. He opened his personal terminal and found Elvis. Elvis had been messaging him quite a bit lately, but Yun Yingzhi had always read without replying. Now, he opened the chat and typed his first message.

Yun Yingzhi: Your Highness! I really can’t stand you anymore!

Elvis: “…”

Yun Yingzhi: Could you please be a little quieter?

He frantically typed: The abilities of esper soldiers awaken to protect their homes and country, but you awakened your ability just to fight—do you really think that’s okay?

Thinking about the two Little Buns who had awakened their espers just to bicker, Yun Yingzhi completely lost it.

Yun Yingzhi: When you were little, you fought every single day, chaos everywhere! Did you ever think about His Majesty or the Imperial Consort? Genetics really matter, and you must correct your attitude!

The more he thought, the angrier he became. Couldn’t you just behave and listen to His Majesty and Imperial Consort?

Elvis: “…”

When he was little? What was he like when he was little? According to Emperor Jarren and Imperial Consort, he had been quiet back then, like a cold machine—completely emotionless. He didn’t cry, didn’t laugh, didn’t express anything—like a lifeless, cold puppet.

Elvis: “?” What on earth had happened that made Yun Yingzhi so angry?

Finally, Elvis replied: Zhizhi, don’t be angry. It’s all my fault.

Yun Yingzhi: Of course it’s all your fault. If it wasn’t your fault, would it be mine?
