Chapter 11: He couldn’t escape

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

“You’re late for class and still able to smile? Stand up straight and act serious!”

Zhou Kai looked up at the fierce supervising dean and almost reached up to touch his own face, just to check if he was really smiling so obviously.

But actually, he didn’t need to touch his face; he knew for sure that he was smiling. How could he not, standing next to the person he thought about day and night, the nasty snake? They were only a small step apart, and he could already smell the soap on the clothes of the person beside him.

It was still that fresh lemon scent, which Zhou Kai had always liked.

After scolding Zhou Kai, the supervising dean launched into his usual lecture, which hadn’t changed in seven or eight years. Unaware, the two students standing before him were lost in their own thoughts, not really listening. The dean, however, was speaking passionately, even gesturing with his hands.

He Ye’s gaze was fixed ahead, beyond the supervising dean, staring at the residential building outside the wall. His brows were furrowed, and he was internally conflicted. There were faint dark circles under his eyes from a sleepless night. The person responsible for his lack of sleep was standing right next to him, acting as if nothing was wrong and sneakily glancing at him from the corner of his eye.

He Ye gripped the strap of his bag tightly, recalling the voice message he had sent last night warning the other person, gritting his teeth. His anger burned so intensely that his breath was hot.

The supervising dean hadn’t expected there to be someone even bolder than Zhou Kai and He Ye. Not only was the student late, but he was also slowly strolling in, eating a bun and sipping soy milk.

He didn’t look like he was heading to class; he looked more like a tourist out for a leisurely stroll.

One quick glance, and the veins on the dean’s forehead bulged. He no longer cared about reprimanding Zhou Kai and He Ye. He strode over to stop the high school sophomore who was ignoring the rules.

Zhou Kai looked over and saw the high schooler calmly sipping from a straw. He wasn’t panicked or scared at all, and his reaction was much stronger than Zhou Kai’s earlier attempt to run away. Zhou Kai couldn’t help but admire him.

He turned his gaze back to the person standing beside him, trying to act indifferent. He pressed his lips together, lowered his head, and his mind raced. His feet couldn’t stay still either, fidgeting with a small stone, making it scrape against the ground with a crisp sound.

He Ye was frustrated and irritated, and the sound of the stone was giving him a headache. Unable to take it anymore, he turned to glare at Zhou Kai’s profile and spoke, “Is it fun?”

Zhou Kai’s scalp tingled, and he immediately stood up straighter. His right foot was still on the stone, but when he looked up, he found He Ye’s eyes filled with anger, like sparks about to ignite.

He Ye looked at his black-and-white eyes, which shone with light, and clenched his teeth. He said, “Do you want to switch to a bigger one? It’d be more fun.”

Zhou Kai’s mind went blank, like his brain had crashed. After a moment, he finally rebooted. Flustered, he quickly lowered his head, raised his right leg, and kicked the stone far away, where it rolled into the grass by the wall.

He Ye’s gaze shifted from the grass back to Zhou Kai’s face, then returned to the residential building.

He opened his mouth, nodded slightly, and took a deep breath, quickly exhaling.

Zhou Kai stood beside him, still with nothing to do since the stone was gone. He felt awkward, wondering why he didn’t even refute He Ye’s comment earlier. It made him feel pathetic. Why hadn’t he said anything, as if he were afraid of him?

After a pause, Zhou Kai wasn’t sure why he said it, but suddenly blurted out, “Of course, bigger is better. Who doesn’t like bigger?”

His voice was soft, but the words were crystal clear. As soon as Zhou Kai finished speaking, he froze for a moment. When he realized what he’d just said, his face immediately turned bright red. He buried his head lower, wishing he could disappear into the ground.

And He Ye? Upon hearing Zhou Kai’s bold comment, He Ye clenched his fist and turned to glare at him, his eyes filled with the intent to tear him apart. If it weren’t for the bell signaling the start of class, and the supervising dean walking over to say a couple more words, He Ye was sure his clenched hand would have reached out and grabbed Zhou Kai.

You might wonder, what did He Ye want to do with his hand?

He’d coldly respond, “What do you think? Not hitting him, but touching him?”

As for whether it was a punch or a touch, no one would know since it never happened.

Zhou Kai practically leaped up the stairs, running away to escape. He entered the classroom through the front door. He Ye followed behind, step by step, his lips pressed tight, his face dark with irritation, looking like he was ready to explode at anyone who dared to provoke him.

People who walked past He Ye instinctively avoided him, either out of fear or contempt.

He Ye didn’t care. He was used to it.

When the class monitor saw Zhou Kai rush in and slump into his seat, panting for breath, he curiously approached. Zhou Kai wasn’t paying attention, lost in his own chaotic thoughts, and didn’t notice the monitor reaching out to pat him on the chest to help him calm down.

Zhou Kai snapped out of his daze when he heard the teasing around him. He quickly pushed the monitor’s hand away, glancing around the room and forcing a smile, saying, “What? You all think you’re so clever, huh?”

Laughter erupted, especially from the girls. Some of them giggled and said, “Student Representative, look how kind the class monitor is to you. Why don’t you just give in?”

“Ha ha, just give in!”

“I’ll give you a red envelope if you give in!”

“…”

The class monitor laughed along, pretending to reach for Zhou Kai’s waist to tease him and please the crowd. Zhou Kai pushed him away with a smile on his face, but inwardly he was cursing, “Give in? You can’t even see what’s real, and you still have the nerve to tease me?”

He spun around to dodge, glancing over his shoulder and spotting He Ye entering the classroom. Zhou Kai quickly turned away, hiding his flustered feelings. Trying to cover up his unease, he let the monitor lean on him, joining in the banter with the group.

He Ye kicked his chair out and sat down, then glanced at Zhou Kai, staring at him for a long time. Only when the bell for the first class rang did he stuff his bag into the desk’s compartment, pushing it with such force that the desk slid forward with a squeak.

The person sitting in front jumped in surprise, straightened their back, but didn’t dare turn around.

He Ye leaned over the desk, grinning slightly, opening his mouth soundlessly.

“Zhou Kai… I’ll fuck you up…”

He Ye placed his hand on his head, his lips pressed tight. In the hazy, blurred dream, he let himself fall to the bottom of the cliff, where mischievous fairies wrapped themselves around him, teasing him relentlessly.

He couldn’t escape… and honestly, he didn’t really want to.
