Chapter 53: Extra 7

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

When his father kicked him, Zhou Kai felt his heart sink. His mind was filled with the thought that he had finally had the courage to tell the truth, and he would no longer have to make excuses to his parents.

When his knee hit the floor with a thud, Zhou Kai didn’t feel much pain, but he had difficulty standing up when he tried to push himself up with his hands.

Zhou Kai’s mother rushed out of the bedroom when she heard the noise. Seeing her son struggling to get up from the floor and her husband looking angry, she was so upset that her eyes welled up. She ignored her husband and rushed to help her son, looking at him with concern and asking, “What happened? You were fine just now. Why did you suddenly hit Xiao Kai? Can’t you just talk?”

Zhou Kai’s father was furious and pushed his wife aside, pointing at Zhou Kai and said angrily, “Talk? I’ve been too lenient with you because I listened to you. You should hear what he just said!”

Zhou Kai’s mother looked at Zhou Kai. Zhou Kai clenched his fists, looked into his mother’s eyes, lowered his head, and took a deep breath. Zhou Kai’s father was so angry that he wanted to find something to hit Zhou Kai with, but Zhou Kai’s mother stopped him.

Zhou Kai’s mother was sobbing and quickly grabbed her son’s cold hands, asking softly, “Xiao Kai, what did you tell your father? Your father has never hit you before. What happened this time? What did you say?”

Biting his lip, Zhou Kai looked at his mother’s worried expression and couldn’t help but blush. He lowered his head and said with difficulty, “I’m sorry, Dad… I’m sorry.”

The words “I’m sorry” were too weak and too hurtful, but Zhou Kai didn’t know what else to say.

Zhou Kai’s mother lowered her head and stopped talking. She held Zhou Kai’s hands tightly and trembled. Zhou Kai’s father sat down on the sofa, slapped the table, and said in a heavy and heartbroken voice, “We’ve raised you for almost thirty years, Zhou Kai. We want you to have a good job and a good family. You said you were young and didn’t want to get married yet, and we believed you. We didn’t force you.”

“Zhou Kai, Zhou Kai, you’ve been lying to your mother and me all this time?”

“You’re so brave! You’re really brave!”

Looking at his father who was shaking his head and speaking in a heavy tone, Zhou Kai swallowed and said softly, “I’m sorry. Dad… I’m sorry.”

The words “I’m sorry” were too weak, but Zhou Kai didn’t know what else to say.

Zhou Kai’s mother, who had already guessed the truth, lowered her head and stopped talking. She held Zhou Kai’s hands tightly and trembled. She turned to her husband and said, “Don’t blame Xiao Kai anymore. Please don’t. It’s my fault, it’s all my fault!”

She couldn’t catch her breath and covered her chest, gasping for air.

“Mom?!”

Zhou Kai felt his heart ache. He knew that his parents would be disappointed and hurt, but he had to tell them the truth. He had been living a lie for too long, and he couldn’t continue to do so.

He Ye walked out of the dark alley, raised his head, and let the sunlight fall on him. He took a deep breath, feeling a sense of relief. But his relief was short-lived. When he heard Zhou Kai’s troubled voice on the phone, his heart ached again.

When he arrived at Zhou Kai’s parents’ apartment complex, he was stopped by the security guard because he didn’t have his ID. He could only wait outside the gate. When he saw Zhou Kai limping towards him from a distance, He Ye’s eyes welled up. He cursed under his breath and rushed past the security guard.

The security guard chased after him, shouting at him to stop. He Ye ignored him and ran to Zhou Kai, staring at him with a deep gaze. He was both angry and sad, and he asked with difficulty, “Why… why didn’t you wait for me?”

Zhou Kai smiled wryly and leaned against He Ye, whispering, “Why not? I just suddenly blurted it out.” He chuckled and pushed He Ye. He Ye didn’t move, so Zhou Kai grabbed his hand and confessed, “He Ye, I’ve been thinking about it for a long time. I knew I had to take you to meet my parents, but I wanted to tell them first so they could be prepared. I didn’t want them to be hurt, and I didn’t want you to be hurt either.”

He Ye understood. He had thought about it too, and he had thought about accompanying Zhou Kai, waiting for him outside, just in case. But Zhou Kai had acted too quickly, and he hadn’t had time to prepare. He Ye closed his eyes to calm himself down and squatted down to look at Zhou Kai’s leg. Seeing the bruise on his right knee, He Ye clenched his fist in anger. He couldn’t believe he wasn’t there to protect Zhou Kai.

Zhou Kai didn’t expect his injury to be so serious. He rubbed the bruise with his fingers and gritted his teeth, forcing a smile. “Hey, it’s my fault for not being careful. My dad’s kick wasn’t that hard, but I didn’t expect him to hit me, so I fell.”

He Ye looked up at Zhou Kai with a complex expression. He put Zhou Kai’s pants back down and turned around, facing away from Zhou Kai. He gestured for Zhou Kai to get on his back. “Come on, let’s go to the hospital to check if you hit your head.”

Zhou Kai sniffed and smiled happily. He hugged He Ye’s neck and swayed his right leg. “I’m sure I’m fine. It just hurts a little.”

He Ye carried Zhou Kai to the car and closed the door. He kissed Zhou Kai passionately, and Zhou Kai opened his watery eyes, feeling He Ye’s excitement. The coldness in his heart gradually melted away.

After the kiss, Zhou Kai panted and asked He Ye who was pressing down on him, “Have you paid off the debt?”

He Ye nodded.

Zhou Kai’s eyes lit up. He licked his lips and smiled, suggesting, “He Ye, let’s buy a house, shall we? It doesn’t have to be big, just one bedroom, one living room, one bathroom, and one kitchen. We can buy it somewhere a bit far from the city center, so it will be cheaper.” He didn’t want to add any more pressure to He Ye who had just paid off his debts.

He Ye kissed him and said, “Okay, let’s buy a home design book on the way back and study it.”

Zhou Kai smiled brightly and blinked. He Ye touched his eyebrows and his expression softened. There was no more bitterness in his eyes.

“As for your parents, let’s take it slow. Don’t worry, I believe they will understand. If it takes a year, or two years, or even three years, I will definitely take you home to meet them.”

“Okay.”

“He Ye.”

“Yes?”

“Should we go to the hospital?”

He Ye let go of Zhou Kai and lifted his chin. He sighed and smiled. “Yes, but let’s do something else first.”

Their lips met again, and tears rolled down Zhou Kai’s cheeks. He Ye wiped them away. They had experienced both sweetness and bitterness, but they were still together.

There would be more ups and downs in the future, but for He Ye and Zhou Kai, those difficulties were no longer scary.

I ended up liking this quite different romance, far more than I expected.
At the start, I wasn’t keen on the characters, but they grew individually, together, and on me.
Thank you for this surprising story.

Happy ending, but a realistic one. I love how they love each other, how they dedicate their selves to each other. It was a short nice romance story. I hope it was longer so it can be more complete. It feels a bit rushing at the end chapters. Still a good one though. Thank you for choosing this story and sharing it with us. Appreciate your hard work. Thank you.
