Chapter 17: Third Mark

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

The third time was more intense than the previous two, overwhelming Lyss’s senses in an unprecedented surge, leaving him feeling like a drowning man watching the receding water’s surface.

It turned out Lu Xingye’s warning was reasonable, but it didn’t have any effect. He bit down as soon as he finished speaking, and coupled with the cramped space, Lyss couldn’t cover his mouth in time. The surge overwhelmed his rationality, leaving Lyss with no choice but to bite down on the closest thing next to his mouth in a moment of urgency.

“——!!” Lu Xingye unconsciously increased the pressure on the bite, and Lyss, in pain, managed to regain some consciousness. That’s when he suddenly realized what he had bitten in his moment of panic – it was Lu Xingye’s ear.

Lyss was taken aback and intended to release, but the pain on the back of his neck lessened as Lu Xingye’s movement slowed down. Dominants were accustomed to pain and solitude, but they couldn’t stand pleasure and warmth.

To prevent making any noise, Lyss had no choice but to continue holding onto the other’s earlobe, oddly thinking to himself: “Not a bad taste.’

If the first marking was expected, and the second planned, the third was completely beyond expectations. In the cramped space, their clothes were a tangled mess, one person holding onto the other’s ear, and the other biting the neck, resembling a pair of wild birds entwined in a field, far from any semblance of decency.

The pain receptors in the wolf’s ears were several times more sensitive than other parts, and Lu Xingye had lost control momentarily due to the pain and stimulation. A bit of cloth around Lyss’s waist unraveled, and Lu Xingye’s alpha hands got stuck there. His fingers, marked with scars and sharp as knives, embedded themselves in the pale skin, emitting an inexplicable tension in the darkness.

Outside, the conversation was reaching its end; the unknown voice had disappeared, seemingly having left. The few remaining people were discussing strategies for the second half of the meeting. Lyss closed his eyes in the darkness, feeling the end of the marking. With the suppression of the alpha pheromone, the scent gradually faded.

It seemed there was indeed a strong enough alpha around him to suppress the effects. Lyss held onto Lu Xingye’s ear, gradually forming an unprecedented thought – an idea that could help him eliminate his last weakness completely.

To ensure the smooth progression of the meeting, including Feng Man, three people each took a special pill. After explaining things, President Feng Man, as well as one other, left first.

In the darkness, Lyss released the black wolf ear he had almost bitten hard enough to draw blood, and Lu Xingye lifted his head from Lyss’s neck. After completing the third marking, both fell silent, not saying a word for a while. Lu Xingye looked down at the person in his arms, but Lyss didn’t meet his gaze, leaving only the sound of short and heavy breaths.

After an uncertain period, maybe three seconds, maybe an eternity, Lu Xingye hesitantly kissed the person in his arms.

Lyss didn’t resist, but also didn’t respond.

The two people outside who hadn’t left yet were chatting, “Do you think…what reaction will Lyss have later?”

“The same as just now. Go back to the lounge with his little alpha.”

Lu Xingye’s expression turned slightly cold; he softly pressed against Lyss’s forehead, whispering, “Stay calm, no one can hurt us here.”

The scent suddenly exploded around him, intensifying to a bitter extent, as if to erase the mark on his nape forcibly. The people outside were still talking, intermingled with triumphant smiles. Lyss’s eyes flashed with a killing intent; the chill in his golden eyes almost turned tangible.

Despite not being as powerful as they claimed, the effects of the scent were still taking a toll on Lyss. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, feeling his fingertips tremble. In this state, attending the meeting would mean following the will of those outside.

Although he couldn’t smell the scent, Lu Xingye wasn’t in a better state. In such a cramped space, once Lyss’s estrus erupted, both of them might be in trouble here.

Lu Xingye looked at the person in his arms, and in the darkness, Lyss’s skin was as fair as if bathed in moonlight. His hurried breathing made Lu Xingye almost feel like he was embracing a deity.

Lu Xingye didn’t want to take advantage of the situation, but at this moment, there was no other way. “Stay calm, Chief, don’t make a sound. We may win against them, but we can’t guarantee taking down them at once. They have the emitter’s mainframe; be wary; they might resort to drastic measures.”

The emitter’s mainframe could directly destroy the entire space; Lyss’s struggling strength lessened a bit. He furrowed his brow, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, trying to calm down. In this state, they wouldn’t be able to handle a meeting.

Lu Xingye gently held the person in his arms and spoke softly, “Chief, stay calm. Four people are outside; if we can’t handle them at once, they might resort to extreme measures.”

After their conversation, suddenly, they heard a sound of metal scraping nearby. Before they could react, a punch suddenly flew towards them.

“——!!”

One person hadn’t seen the newcomer clearly and was slammed by Lu Xingye into the metal wall behind, immediately losing consciousness.

The other person was kicked to the ground by Lu Xingye, the emitter and pill flying away from their hands. Ignoring the trickle of blood from their mouth, they tried to reach for the emitter. a shoe with a metallic thud heavily stomped on their wrist.

“Ah——!”

Lyss looked down at the person below, and Lu Xingye then picked him up from the ground.

“Wait.” Lyss loosened his grip and said, “I have something to ask him.”

Hearing Lyss’s voice, the person was terrified. “Please, Chief, I didn’t mean…ah——”

Lu Xingye coldly said, “Shut up; say another word, and you won’t be able to speak again.”

The space fell silent. Lyss looked down at the person and asked, “Who was that just now?”

“You… you know, it’s our President Feng Man…” The person wanted to play dumb but suddenly couldn’t continue. “It hurts, hurts—okay, I’ll tell! That person is a friend of the President’s; we don’t know where he’s from…”

Lyss interrupted, “Disable one of his legs.”

Lu Xingye was about to act.

“Wait, wait!” The person trembled in fear. “He seems to be from the Black Wolf clan, but I don’t know if he’s from the Empire…”

Lyss looked at him, and the person almost curled up into a ball. “Really… I’m not lying to you. With my status, that’s all I could find out.”

“What about Doctor Dong?” Lu Xingye spoke, “His real name?”

“His alias is actually Dr. Qiu, but for safety, they call him Doctor Dong.” The person cautiously said, “I’m not very clear about his real name; he seems to be from the Starfall Sea.”

Hearing that name, Lu Xingye’s heart skipped a beat, turning to Lyss. Both being from the Starfall Sea, Lu Xingye’s reaction suggested recognition or at least familiarity.

Lyss pondered, raising his hand slightly, indicating for Lu Xingye to step back.

On the ground, the person breathed a sigh of relief, but before they could fully relax, they heard Lyss say, “Bon Sendeir.”

Bon was taken aback, “How do you know my…?”

“If I’m not mistaken, the official who was drugged by my men today is named Cage Durse.” Lyss didn’t explain further but laid it out plainly, “There seems to be some conflict between your father and him. But at the moment, he seems unaware of your surname or your purpose in entering the cabinet.”

Bon was bewildered, just like seeing a ghost. Lu Xingye had a mysterious look on his face, equally shocked inside. How did Lyss know everything?

“I’ll give you a chance,” Lyss continued, “A masked person knocked you both out. You pretend to be unconscious without letting them know. But you still didn’t see his face, only that he removed the spatial emitter from his collar before leaving.”

Lu Xingye was surprised by Lyss’s action; this person never lied, or at least, guiding others to lie didn’t count as lying.

Bon was first thrilled by the unexpected chance but then calmed down, “But this is too easily exposed…”

“You’re right; it’s easy.” Those golden eyes stared at Bon calmly, like a predator in the dark, “But if you don’t speak, do you think you can escape suspicion?”

Bon suddenly looked up, “Escape what—”

“Everything was recorded.” Lyss remained calm, “The recording will be handed over to President Feng Man. If you don’t speak, including what you said after he leaves, it will also be in his hands, Mr. Bon. Then you’ll have no way to defend yourself.”

“I… you…” Bon was speechless, and the room fell silent.

After a moment, Bon suddenly deflated, “I understand. I understand your point… But how can my words alone…”

“You don’t need to worry about that; I’ll inform President Feng Man of certain things. I believe he will make the right judgment.” Lyss signaled for Lu Xingye to take out the emitter, “I’ve given you a chance; it’s up to you to seize it or not.”

Lu Xingye was incredulous, obediently taking out the emitter. Bon lowered his head.

Lyss didn’t turn back or respond, just stepped into the spacetime crack created by Lu Xingye.

“Wait, Chief!” Bon suddenly stopped them, “This pill…”

“Keep it with you.” Lyss didn’t care, “It doesn’t affect me.”

“Alright.” Bon lowered his head.

With that said, Lyss walked into the crack in spacetime, followed closely by Lu Xingye. They returned to the lounge, with half an hour remaining until the second part of the meeting started.

Lyss sat on the bed as if nothing had happened, lowering his head to straighten out the rumpled clothes.

Lu Xingye stood by, staring at him without blinking. Lyss, without lifting his head, asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Lu Xingye leaned against the nearby mirror, watching the person before him, “I was just thinking, for people like you, is scheming something casual or has it become instinct?”

“I don’t know for others. But for me,” Lyss raised his gaze to meet Lu Xingye’s in the mirror, “it’s not scheming, it’s calculation.”

The statement sounded peculiar, and Lu Xingye paused, seemingly not quite understanding. He smiled, “So, Chief, am I within your calculations?”

Lyss paused in straightening his clothes, looking directly at Lu Xingye’s reflection, “Return that device to its owner.”

“Every time, Chief, whenever you don’t want to answer, you start beating around the bush.” Lu Xingye laughed at the remark, “But haven’t you forgotten? You owe me a question, don’t you?”

“No.” Lyss continued to focus on adjusting his clothes, “I said I’d answer you when we’re home.”

“Then, I’ll leave you to your business now.” Lyss finally looked up from the mirror, meeting Lu Xingye’s eyes directly, “You’ve asked for quite a lot today, little pup.”

Lu Xingye casually tossed the button-shaped emitter and then walked out of the room. Lyss remained seated on the bed for a while, then took out the recording device and played it back on the terminal.

With fifteen minutes until the second part of the meeting, representatives from various parties were arriving.

Feng Man exited the lounge, turned the corner, and immediately spotted a tall figure standing in the distance.

“Chief, what a coincidence.” Feng Man hesitated for a moment before quickening his pace, his face unconsciously lighting up with a smile.

Almost there, almost within reach, Feng Man felt like the code of the original system was beckoning to him. With the original system in hand, he would be remembered in history, as long as this omega caught a whiff of the scent, as long as this omega—

“How coincidental, President.” Lyss halted at the dim intersection of the corridor, turning slowly. Half of his face remained in the shadow, but his golden eyes shone, cold as an indifferent predator, “But, Mr. President, the scent on you doesn’t seem as effective as Doctor Dong claimed.”
