Chapter 43: Madness

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: CaiCai

Unprecedented silence engulfed the room. Lyss’s heart pounded like a drum, the sound of his own heartbeat ringing clear in his ears.

He widened his eyes, gazing at the figure on top of him, momentarily thinking he was still dreaming.

The day’s experiences had been too tumultuous. Just as Lyss began to believe that Lu Xingye had truly forgotten him, there he was again, appearing before him with a paranoid and crazed demeanor.

Lyss had refrained from speaking all day, unable to suppress the tremble in his voice. But now, staying silent was no longer an option.

“She is your…” Lyss quivered, attempting to speak.

“Chief, are you planning to deceive me again?” Lu Xingye suddenly interrupted in a gentle tone.

Lyss’s breath hitched. He tried to deny it, but Lu Xingye had lost the courage and patience to listen. A torrential kiss descended abruptly, like an unannounced storm.

“Mmm…”

It wasn’t gentle but instead a fierce kiss, impossible to resist. His tongue was sucked and teased until his taste buds were tingling. Then it began pressing against the roof of his mouth, until his mouth was forced open for the invader’s exploration.

Saliva, unswallowed, trickled down his lips. For a moment, Lyss felt as though the other person’s tongue had reached his throat.

Ambiguous sounds filled the room. Triss’s highest leader was now disheveled, pinned down on the bed, yet Lyss showed no signs of resistance, almost docile.

Lu Xingye never imagined the word “docile” would ever be associated with Lyss. His attitude, so different from five years ago, ignited a simmering anger within him.

The hem of the bathrobe was suddenly lifted, and Lyss realized the intentions of the other person. His golden eyes widened, attempting to push back, “Wait, not right now…”

There was a slight quiver in his voice, a physiological tremor from excessive joy and excitement. Lu Xingye misunderstood, thinking Lyss was trembling because of resistance to his advances.

An unnamed fury overwhelmed Lu Xingye’s rationality.

The bathrobe was abruptly opened. Over the past five years, Lyss’s slightly plump thighs were pushed aside, the damp tail instinctively blocking, yet unwittingly exposing a vulnerability.

“Ah!”

Golden eyes, calm and collected for thousands of days and nights, rippled once more, the mist of moisture almost falling.

Lyss bit his hand, refusing to make a sound, offering no resistance apart from this, but even in his compliance, Lu Xingye remained unsatisfied.

“Scared your daughter might hear?” Lu Xingye forcefully pulled apart the hand beneath him, staring intensely at the reluctantly parted lips and tongue, “Brother, make a sound.”

The upright white animal ears drooped sadly atop his head.

Hearing those words, Lyss widened his eyes in bewilderment, his breath and body freezing simultaneously. Lu Xingye paused, his gaze deepening by a degree.

Compared to the once deep green, his eyes were now entirely a rich black, like an unfathomable abyss.

“Chief, are you afraid…” Lu Xingye could barely contain his malice and desire, gripping Lyss’s chin, biting harshly on his neck, “that your lovely daughter might find her dad lying beneath a stranger?”

Lyss shuddered all over, his eyes, filled with watery gold, lifted unbelievably. It seemed he couldn’t comprehend that these were words from Lu Xingye.

Harsh words were like a double-edged dagger, stabbing both others and oneself the moment they were spoken.

Even though this person had never loved him, even though this person knew Lu Xingye would die for him, and even though this person turned around and had a daughter with someone else…

But Lyss couldn’t bear to see that expression on his face. Lu Xingye cursed himself internally, biting back his words, not continuing. Just as he was silently intending to proceed, a trembling yet resolute voice spoke up.

“N… no…,” Lyss bit his lower lip and forcefully raised his hand to hook onto the person’s neck, replying firmly, “Not a stranger.”

Lu Xingye, who was about to act, paused, “What?”

“Not a stranger…” Emotions pent up for five years suddenly exploded. Lyss, holding back tears, kissed the person on top of him, “You’re my alpha…”

Lu Xingye’s breath hitched. After regaining his senses, something struck him, and sadness and ferocity flashed in his eyes, “You think saying such words would deceive me a second time? Lyss… you’re just a liar.”

Lyss knew his coaxing skills were lacking, but he never expected that a single sentence could drive Lu Xingye even crazier.

The return of complete memory and five years of time made Lyss gradually understand what shame meant. Among the three people he cared about the most in this world, two had died. So, he devoted all tenderness to Lin Lang, striving to be a good father.

Yet, lying next door to his sleeping daughter, he was stripped of all dignity and composure by someone pulling his tail. Shame engulfed his mind, making him want to shut his eyes uncontrollably.

But still, he didn’t resist. This was the person he had yearned for over the past five years, someone he was willing to give everything to.

After five years apart, his little wolf seemed too wild. Inexplicably, there had even been a great increase in his physical strength. Lyss couldn’t resist in the end.

As consciousness began to fade, he raised his hand to touch the puppy’s ears but felt only dampness.

Lyss suddenly snapped awake. His golden eyes, filled with physical tears, looked up and saw Lu Xingye’s actions were extremely fierce. His eyes were filled with madness and paranoia, yet tears flowed silently.

Lyss felt puzzled but still struggled to wipe away those tears, yet the more he wiped, the more they flowed.

“Don’t cry…” Lyss tried to comfort, his voice strained, “Don’t cry… little pup…”

Lu Xingye cried ferociously, his actions and words fierce, “Chief, have you gone mad? Your little pup is already dead.”

Lyss wanted to console further but was abruptly silenced by the person, who took the belt from the bathrobe and tightened it in front of his mouth.

“——!”

“Not afraid your daughter might hear?” Lu Xingye wiped away a tear, looking down darkly at the bedraggled figure beneath him. “Then don’t make a sound.”

The night’s inky blackness shrouded unseen sins while concealing indulgences akin to a sacrifice.

Early the next morning, Lyss abruptly opened his eyes. Urgent knocking came from outside the door, “Mommy… Are you awake?”

Lyss’s breath hitched, hastily scanning the room’s condition. Seeing everything clean and tidy, he breathed a sigh of relief and replied, “I’ll be there in a moment…”

He suddenly paused. Lin Lang outside the door also faltered and immediately asked, “Mommy, what’s wrong with your voice?”

It was only when Lyss sat up that he felt the soreness and pain all over his body, as if he had been run over by a mecha. “…You go ahead and freshen up.”

Lin Lang keenly sensed something amiss, hesitated, and leaned against the door, asking, “…Can I come in?”

Lyss, cautiously pulling back the covers to check his body, from collarbones to thighs, found unspeakable marks. Startled by the words, he instinctively exclaimed, “Don’t come in.”

Lin Lang scratched the door, a bit worried, resembling a little puppy. in the end, she obediently said, “Okay… I’ll go freshen up first.”

Lyss slowly sat up, enduring discomfort, and attempted to freshen up. But as soon as he stood before the mirror, he froze.

Except for above his neck and wrists, almost every exposed inch of skin had marks. Lyss blushed almost instantly.

Memories of last night gradually resurfaced—the ambiguous breaths amidst mingling shadows, the shameful feeling of wanting to cry but being unable to make a sound…

Lyss pursed his lips, meeting his reflection in the mirror. After a moment, he pretended to be composed, lowered his head, and shakily finished freshening up before leaving the room.

Upon seeing Lyss, Lin Lang immediately wagged her tail and worriedly asked, “Mommy, what’s wrong… Are you feeling unwell?”

Lyss couldn’t answer that question and redirected the conversation, “I’ll be attending a meeting shortly. I’ll come back for you at lunchtime. Will you stay here and wait for me, okay?”

Lin Lang obediently nodded, “Okay.”

Seeing his obedient daughter, Lyss’s heart trembled, but in the end, he remained silent.

He didn’t intend to tell Lin Lang for the time being. After all, he himself hadn’t figured out what Lu Xingye had experienced, why there hadn’t been any change in him in five years. Revealing too abruptly to Lin Lang that he, a seemingly under twenty alpha, was her biological father might be too much for the young girl to accept at the moment.

Thinking about it, Lyss felt a bit amused for some reason. He straightened his collar, gave his daughter’s ears a rub, and prepared to go for the meeting.

As he opened the main door, a familiar figure happened to pass by the entrance. Startled by seeing Lyss, the person stopped in surprise, then flashed a bright smile, “Mr. Silverfang, what a coincidence.”

Lyss abruptly stopped in his tracks, unable to discern Lu Xingye’s intentions, even with the computing prowess of the Chudai System. Lu Xingye’s demeanor was completely different from the night before—sunny, upbeat, and youthful, reminiscent of when they first met.

Noticing the perplexed expression on someone named “琳琅” (Lin Lang), Lyss gently addressed her before silently heading to the Empire’s conference hall with Lu Xingye.

A youthful voice commented on Lin Lang’s attachment to Lyss, and Lyss, unsure of how to respond, mentioned that he raised her himself and she had always been close to him. Lu Xingye seemed to take it lightly, though only he knew the feeling of nails digging into his palm.

As they walked, an uncomfortable silence settled between Lyss and Lu Xingye. Lyss couldn’t bear the atmosphere and turned to ask Lu Xingye if he had experienced amnesia. After a brief pause, Lu Xingye responded, and then questioned if a person who lost all their memories was still the same person. Lyss, puzzled, replied based on biological terms.

Suddenly, Lyss realized something when Lu Xingye asked if a completely deceased person, whose memories were entirely inherited by a machine, would still be considered a person.

Lu Xingye, with unfathomable dark eyes, gazed quietly at Lyss’s incredible golden eyes and offered condolences for the reported passing of Silverfang’s alpha.

The author notes: “The little dog has gone mad and is speaking gibberish. Don’t believe him.”
