Facing Lu Xingye’s gentle yet firm vows, Lyss remained silent but his demeanor visibly softened. Observing the relaxation in the person in his arms, Lu Xingye took the opportunity to step forward and said, “Brother, could you find a chance to dismiss your apprentice secretary?”
Lyss paused, not mentioning that he had already considered dismissing Lin Xi long ago. Instead, he pretended, “Why should I dismiss him?”
Lu Xingye’s hand around Lyss’s waist tightened, his eyes carrying a shadow of grievance and gloom, “I can do everything he does, and I can do it better. Brotherā”
Lyss interrupted, “Then wait until you return. When you come back, I can dismiss him.”
Lu Xingye paused, incredulously widening his eyes, “But that alpha clearly likes you! You can’tā”
“I can,” Lyss replied calmly. “This is a punishment.”
As he spoke, he leisurely adjusted Lu Xingye’s collar, his long and strong fingers playing with the fabric in a seemingly casual manner, yet quite striking.
Seeing this, Lu Xingye’s expression turned playful, and with a teasing look, he suggested, “Shall we go together?”
As this was the medical center of the Empire, Lyss wasn’t keen on bathing here. Hearing Lu Xingye’s words, he pursed his lips and changed his previous attitude, “We’ll bathe when we return.”
Lu Xingye’s amusement deepened, “What should I do then?”
Lyss, with a change in demeanor, replied, “Come with me.”
Lin Lang waited anxiously outside. When she saw the two coming out, she hurriedly intercepted Lyss, “Mommyā”
Lyss adeptly lifted the girl. Lin Lang leaned against him obediently, cautiously glancing at Lu Xingye with a mix of concern and worry, looking rather cute.
Lu Xingye blinked, pointing at Lyss, miming words, “Mommy’s upsetā”
Lyss cut him off, “Lin Lang, don’t mind him.”
Lin Lang blinked, instantly changing sides and nestled in Lyss’s arms, giving Lu Xingye a helpless look.
Lu Xingye chuckled. Lillia, sensing the atmosphere, said, “Chief, then I’ll go back.”
Lyss nodded, “Yes, sure.”
After putting the little girl to bed, Lin Lang was about to say something when she asked, “Are we leaving tomorrow, Mommy?”
Lyss paused, gently nodded, “Yes.”
Lu Xingye had just entered and heard Lin Lang, who was drowsy, ask, “Is Daddy coming with us?”
The candid question left the adults momentarily stunned.
After a while, Lyss softly replied, “Daddy has some things to take care of here. He’ll come find us after some time.”
“Oh, okay… When will Daddy be back?” Lin Lang asked with a tinge of disappointment.
Lu Xingye couldn’t resist, “Soon. When does your next semester start?”
“In six months,” Lin Lang replied, eyes brightening.
“Then, I promise,” Lu Xingye approached Lyss from behind, holding him gently, “I’ll accompany Mommy to see you off at the start of the semester.”
The little girl was elated, nodding vigorously. Lyss, half-leaning against Lu Xingye, listened as the person behind him solemnly spoke, “Yes, I promise.”
After soothing the girl to sleep, before Lyss could say anything, someone embraced him and dragged him to the bathroom.
As Lyss leaned against the door, feeling the warmth and breath on his neck, Lu Xingye, buried in Lyss’s neck, playfully complained, “Brother, I don’t want you to leave.”
Indeed, Lu Xingye had a way of being playful. Lyss, even if he had a heart of stone, softened at that moment, letting out a sigh and wrapping his hand around Lu Xingye’s neck, soothingly asking, “Is it still hurting?”
Lu Xingye immediately capitalized on the situation, leaning in to kiss Lyss’s lips, “It won’t hurt if Brother kisses me.”
Lyss relented, propping his shoulders and reluctantly allowing Lu Xingye’s affections, “Why are you avoiding me? Don’t you like me anymore?”
As his tail’s base was being touched, Lyss gasped and held back a shiver, biting his lip and restraining the hands causing mischief, “I do… Stop touching recklessly.”
Water flowed, wrapped around his tail, streaming down⦠Weird feelings made Lyss glance at Lu Xingye, which seemed to excite the latter even more.
“Why push me away when you like it?” Lu Xingye took advantage, kissing the slightly raised chin of Lyss. “Brother is about to leave… Don’t be so cold?”
With a tone carrying a hint of plea, though Lyss knew there was an element of acting, his heart softened at the words. “Don’t get too carried away.”
“I will. I’m going to get carried away,” Lu Xingye lifted him under the water, hands mischievous while his words played coy. “You’re leaving soon… Chief, give me some memories…”
With a mix of grievance and perfectly timed hope, Lyss softened, forcefully pushing Lu Xingye’s shoulder and sitting on top of him, suppressing a smile.
“Broā”
“Shut up,” Lyss felt a slight warmth in his ears but kept a calm tone. “If you want a memento, keep quiet.”
Lu Xingye immediately closed his mouth, staring unblinkingly at the person on him. Drunk Lyss might be adorable, but this assertive Lyss was the one who truly stirred his heart. The more authoritative Lyss acted, the more Lu Xingye wanted to pin him down.
Lyss was suddenly pulled by his tail out of the pool, causing a water spill. His pupils contracted as he pressed Lu Xingye’s shoulders. “Wait… youā”
Before he could finish, he was thrown onto the bed, clumsily landing. Droplets rolled off his skin, Lu Xingye’s gaze growing deeper. Lyss’ heart skipped a beat, instinctively trying to turn but was pulled back by a wet tail.
“ā!”Ā
His helpless golden eyes widened as trembling hands were restrained at the bedside.
“Brother…” Lu Xingye gently kissed the side of Lyss’ neck, “Will you video call me? Will you miss me?”
Lyss’ struggling suddenly softened. “I will… miss you…”
“That’s good… I love you, Brother.” Lu Xingye lowered his head, devoutly kissing the person beneath him, as if embracing his own deity.
Lyss, rarely so soft-hearted, soon regretted it.
The next morning, under a clear sky, Lyss led Lin Lang onto the starship. Unable to resist, he looked back, finding the one who claimed he would miss him standing there, waving with a radiant smile.
The overly bright smile felt off to Lyss, but the sorrow of departure quickly overshadowed the unease. He waved back before Lin Lang, beside him, waved fervently, unable to bid farewell due to Lyss’ request, gazing reluctantly at Lu Xingye.
The starship smoothly entered its return orbit. The following days returned to their regular routine. Political turmoil for Lyss was merely work; the Empire’s affairs sparked turmoil across the interstellar, leading to significant unrest. In such a situation, internal and external factors prompted the Empire to replace diplomats in various states.
“When will the new diplomat arrive?” Lyss casually asked.
Lillia glanced at the message, “This afternoon.”
“This afternoon?” Lyss was taken aback.
“Yes,” Lillia seemed puzzled. “But the Empire didn’t specify who the successor diplomat would be.”
Lyss didn’t pay much attention. “Okay, got it.”
In the afternoon, Lyss was absent-mindedly waiting at the reception area, Lu Xingye’s midday words flooding his mind. The starship landed, and the departing diplomat, along with the Foreign Ministry, went forward. Lyss subconsciously looked up, then frozeāseeing a familiar figure slightly turned, he paused, and then a brilliant smile spread across his face.

Author’s note:
The little puppy has decided to come and take over as the new diplomat, but he’s not saying it yet, pretending to be pitiful for sympathy. I guess he’s in for a scolding tomorrow, haha.

LX is a devil, not a dog! Lyss can never stay angry at him for long though.
