Chapter 56: Anger

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: CaiCai

Lyss rarely called Lu Xingye by his full name as directly as now. His tone was calm, but upon hearing it, Lu Xingye felt as if his heart had been fiercely squeezed by a giant hand, causing immense pain that triggered spasms, surpassing the total agony of the past five years.

“Don’t cry, don’t cry… I’m sorry, brother.” Lu Xingye hurriedly reached to wipe the tears from Lyss’s eyes, but was avoided by the other person’s silence.

The tears rolling down fell along his hand back. Lu Xingye panicked; he didn’t even care about the treatment liquid on himself. He instinctively embraced him like a frightened little dog, whispering in a fearful and anxious voice, “Brother, don’t be angry… I’m truly sorry. I acted hastily at that moment, afraid the explosion might harm you, so I intervened.”

The disinfectant-smelling treatment liquid smeared Lyss all over. Some even ended up on Lyss’s chin as Lu Xingye moved.

Lowering his head, Lu Xingye kissed the tears at the corner of Lyss’s eye, his moist tongue brushing the cheek. Lyss didn’t show disgust but instinctively used his tail as a barrier, which, unsurprisingly, got entangled in the transparent treatment liquid, turning it into sticky strands.

The uncomfortable stickiness at the tip of the tail made Lyss push Lu Xingye away involuntarily. “Let go.”

“I won’t.” Lu Xingye, resolute for less than a second, turned pitiful, “Brother, I didn’t mean it. Can you forgive me for this last time?”

It would have been better if Lu Xingye hadn’t mentioned it. As soon as he did, Lyss couldn’t help but sternly inquire, “The last time? When you charged in, did you consider me?”

In certain drama scenarios, such words usually appeared when a wife questioned her husband for not coming home. Growing up with his mother, Lu Xingye had once found such plots particularly amusing. Yet, at this moment, he couldn’t laugh and felt immensely frightened instead.

“I did think about it. It’s precisely because I didn’t want to expose your situation that I intervened.” Lu Xingye cautiously defended himself, “You can’t reveal your identity, at least not in this situation.”

Lyss was infuriated, “I can’t reveal my identity, but you can risk your life?”

Now genuinely angry, after speaking, Lyss directly shook off Lu Xingye’s arm with a force no one could stop, standing up to leave.

Startled, Lu Xingye hurried to intervene, “Brother—”

When Lyss was determined to leave, no one in the world could stop him. In a flash, Lu Xingye involuntarily gasped, “Ah—”

Lyss halted abruptly, looking back to see Lu Xingye standing there with an unpleasant expression, his wrist unconsciously trembling.

His heart skipped a beat. For a moment, forgetting his anger, Lyss quickly walked up to Lu Xingye, asking with a hint of urgency, “What’s wrong?”

Unexpectedly, Lu Xingye, with a serious expression, grabbed Lyss’s wrist, “My heart hurts.”

Lyss thought it might be some aftermath of the explosion. His speech sped up, “Is it a spasm or a cramp?”

“A cramp,” Lu Xingye shamelessly confessed, “because I feel guilty for making you angry, it’s like an ache of remorse.”

Lyss’s expression went blank for a few seconds, realizing he’d been manipulated into showing concern. He coldly attempted to pull away his hand from Lu Xingye, though his face didn’t portray much annoyance, his actions hinted at a mix of irritation and embarrassment.

This time, Lu Xingye was prepared. He stuck to Lyss like a plaster, impossible to shake off. Moreover, shamelessly, he embraced Lyss from behind, burying his face in Lyss’s neck, pleading, “My heart really hurts, brother… Please don’t be angry with me? I swear, if I get hurt again, let me be…”

Whatever he intended to say next, Lyss didn’t want to hear it. Upon hearing that, he immediately covered Lu Xingye’s mouth, staring at him without blinking, “A liar who doesn’t keep promises.”

Previously, it had always been Lu Xingye plaintively claiming Lyss was a liar, but now, unexpectedly, the roles had reversed.

Lu Xingye blinked, cautiously wrapping his arms around Lyss’s waist. Despite the unfriendly look he received, Lyss didn’t forcefully push him away. With some courage, Lu Xingye half-embraced Lyss, sitting beside him. He lowered his head, gently kissing Lyss while softly coaxing, “I didn’t know anyone would intrude. If I did, this wouldn’t have happened.”

This time, Lyss didn’t resist, simply coldly remarking after Lu Xingye finished, “You don’t know much, it seems.”

Lu Xingye shamelessly continued, “I might not know many things, but I do know some, like the Chief’s estrus period—”

Cutting him off in a cold tone, Lyss stated, “I’ll leave tomorrow; I’ll handle my estrus period myself. You don’t need to worry.”

Lu Xingye’s expression stiffened, incredulously widening his eyes, “Tomorrow?! Why the hurry?”

But as soon as the words came out, he realized why Lyss was in such a rush.

“The incident happened suddenly, nearly causing several heads of various nations to perish. This can’t be contained.” Lyss calmly analyzed while sitting in his embrace, “Some think it’s an imperial conspiracy and fear a suicide attack rather than AI being the main concern. But regardless of the speculations, staying in the empire now isn’t a wise choice. Feng Man of Sheng Dan left right after the explosion; other representatives left around the same time.”

Lu Xingye suddenly understood, “You were supposed to leave with them, right?”

Lyss didn’t hide it, “Yes.”

“Then why didn’t you leave, brother?” Lu Xingye, taking advantage, joked, “Because of me?”

Saying this, he tried to nuzzle Lyss, who evaded by turning his head, only able to press his hand against Lu Xingye’s face, saying, “Yes, afraid you’d die.”

His tone was icy, but Lu Xingye didn’t feel uncomfortable. Instead, he lightly kissed Lyss’s pursed lips, shifting the topic before the outburst, “Ultimately, this is my fault. I probably knew some people might act, but I didn’t expect them to choose this time… a little explosion isn’t too bad.”

Initially curious, Lyss got fired up again upon hearing the last statement. He grabbed Lu Xingye’s ear forcefully, “What’s not too bad?”

“Ah—” Lu Xingye quickly apologized, “I was wrong, I misspoke, brother, it hurts—!”

Lyss released his grip, looking at Lu Xingye with a neutral expression. “Who is planning to act?”

Rubbing his ear that had just been pulled, Lu Xingye joked, “Give me a kiss, and I’ll tell you.”

Lyss glanced at him and then silently attempted to stand up from his embrace.

Seeing this, Lu Xingye quickly hugged his waist, keeping him in place. He leaned in to kiss the corner of Lyss’s mouth. “Alright, don’t be angry. I’ll just say it.”

Kissing him like an eager puppy, Lu Xingye almost broke through Lyss’s intentionally cold demeanor. “Speak.”

“The reason I chose to return to the empire is because my mother’s diary mentioned some things about her time in the empire.” Lu Xingye saw Lyss’s expression turn colder, so he quickly feigned pity. “This is the last thing I’ve hidden from you, there’s nothing else.”

Lyss kept his face cold and didn’t respond. “Continue.”

Seeing his pity act wasn’t working, Lu Xingye obediently continued, “In the diary, she mentioned that I was the son of the reigning monarch of the empire. When she met that man, she didn’t know he was the heir apparent, but it seemed like he knew her identity from the beginning. So when she wrote in her diary, she suspected that the Imperial Family might have had a role in the past AI** crisis.”

“In reality, that man deceived my mother. If not for him, my mother wouldn’t have chosen to have me and wouldn’t have been hunted down. Ultimately, he was the mastermind of everything. That’s why I bombed the imperial warship and chose to return to the empire after my revival… but I was too late; that man was already dead.” Lu Xingye’s expression turned somewhat chilly, seemingly regretting that his biological father hadn’t died by his hands. “After returning to the empire, I’ve found many suspicious things. They’ve been attempting to reboot the system, but there’s a significant internal division.”

“Some, represented by the Prime Minister, believe that AI should be a restricted tool. While advocating for a system reboot, they also believe in completely eliminating the possibility of autonomous consciousness formation. She advocates sharing this technology with the world, not only for more profits but also for the rapid development of immature technology.”

“On the other hand, another faction, represented primarily by the majority of the royal family, has a rather strange attitude. They don’t believe this technology should be extended throughout the universe and think that AI only holds true value after developing autonomous consciousness. But this research is illegal… After being rejected by the Supreme Court, they decided to independently develop the missing part on the chip… the fragment of code that my mother left behind, the one I gave you.”

After listening to Lu Xingye’s explanation, Lyss furrowed his brows tightly. “They think they have the capability to complete that part?”

“That’s something I’m pondering over.” Lu Xingye seemed thoughtful. “I returned under the guise of becoming the reigning monarch. The attitude of the Imperial Family was delicate at first; they didn’t trust me, but when they heard I was Lu Jin’s son, their attitude immediately changed. Almost everyone began pretending to be very enthusiastic towards me. I believe they must know something and understand what the name Lu Jin represents; otherwise, they wouldn’t casually acknowledge me as a prince from an unknown origin.”

Lyss’s brow remained furrowed. Lu Xingye found his serious expression adorable and kissed his forehead, saying, “Though I don’t know what they are planning… Chief, please rest assured. After you leave, I’ll quickly figure out these matters and inform you promptly. Don’t worry.”

Lyss regained his composure, not continuing the serious conversation. Instead, with a hint of dissatisfaction, he looked down at Lu Xingye. “How long do you plan to stay in the empire?”

Lu Xingye chuckled lightly, hugging Lyss’s waist, attempting to kiss him. “What, do you want me to come back and accompany you?”

Lyss dodged slightly, but was caught by the back of his head and kissed. Lu Xingye continued to kiss him while persistently saying, “Answer my question, Chief.”

Lyss was weakened by his kisses and could only utter a soft “Hmm.”

The joy of having him near overwhelmed Lu Xingye’s heart. He could hardly restrain himself from acting further.

“Very soon, after I sort everything out…” Lu Xingye murmured against Lyss’s lips, “After I eliminate all the threats to you, I will definitely come back to you as soon as possible.”

Lyss paused, gazing deeply into his eyes. “This is my last time believing in you. If you break your word again… I won’t reject you, but be prepared.”

Lu Xingye lightly laughed, giving Lyss’s waist a gentle squeeze and placing a serious and focused gaze on him. “Rest assured, as long as you don’t chase me away, I’ll return to you no matter how long it takes.”
