Chapter 14: Not Suitable for Children

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

But Ji Jin knew that on the surface, it definitely couldn’t be seen by others. Bluffing, playing dumb—he had used these tactics many times during matches.

“Explain what?” Ji Jin turned his head to look at Lu Yao. The two were very close, their breaths mingling together. MOE’s teammates were laughing and chatting just ahead, making their whisper feel like a secret affair.

His heart raced fast, but fortunately no one else could hear.

“Explain this: I helped brother find Ji Xingxing, didn’t brother show me any sign of thanks? Hm?” Lu Yao moved closer to Ji Jin; his lips almost brushed Ji Jin’s earlobe.

Although he wore a pheromone sticker, a slight scent still escaped, catching Ji Jin’s sensitive nose to plum wine aromas.

It was just a little—too little to affect Ji Jin greatly—but enough to soften him for a moment.

The young man’s pale face was right in front of him, his features sharp and delicate, the high nose bridge nearly brushing Ji Jin’s cheek. Alpha body temperature was usually slightly higher than Omega’s, just like Lu Yao’s hand, which now grasped Ji Jin’s hand back, warm enough to make his fingertips tremble.

“What kind of sign do you want?” Ji Jin relaxed instead of resisting, leaning softly back in his chair, his breath lightly blowing against Lu Yao’s neck.

Lu Yao must have been asking for something. If Ji Jin could fulfill it, there was nothing he wouldn’t agree to.

“Brother, my heat period is about to come.” Lu Yao took a deep breath near Ji Jin’s ear. His voice suddenly turned hoarse, with a hint of boyish coaxing. “I want brother to accompany me.”

His head buried itself into Ji Jin’s neck, warm skin pressing against Ji Jin’s throat. Because of the inhibitor patch and bracelet, only a faint sweet strawberry scent could be smelled.

It was… such a beautiful scent, tempting someone to bite into this sweet fruit.

Ji Jin felt an itch on his neck as the sticky young man clung to him. The glands at the back of his neck were slightly pressed by Lu Yao, making Ji Jin feel a tingling all over.

“What if I don’t agree?” Ji Jin gently pushed Lu Yao. He hadn’t expected the usually indifferent person to act like a big puppy throwing a tantrum.

He glanced at Ji Xingxing, who had turned his head to watch them seriously with a confused expression, then covered Ji Xingxing’s eyes with his hand.

This kind of scene was really not suitable for children to see.

Ji Xingxing struggled wildly after his eyes were covered: “Daddy! I can’t see! I can’t see!”

Seizing the chance, Lu Yao suddenly lifted his head and kissed Ji Jin on the lips. Ji Jin was caught off guard and had no time to react before Lu Yao succeeded.

The MOE team sat in front watching the opening ceremony; only Cheng Pian, who had just returned from the stage, saw the scene. He widened his eyes in shock, unable to accept what he was witnessing.

The entire esports community believed Ji Jin and Lu Yao hated each other with a vengeance. No one expected these two sworn enemies to sit so closely and intimately!

Though Cheng Pian had been a bit far away when he saw it, the two parted as if nothing had happened once he came over, but the atmosphere between them was still unusual.

Especially God Ji’s gaze—it looked indulgent and gentle, tinged with helplessness. His slightly reddened eyes showed more allure than usual careless mockery.

Even an Alpha… could look this good?

Cheng Pian quickly walked to the MOE team’s area, lowered his head, and casually found a seat to sit down. The others were noisy, congratulating him, but Cheng Pian knew his attention wasn’t on his teammates.

He lowered his head and carefully peeked through the gap between the chairs at the last row, but saw nothing except Ji Xingxing slumped in his seat, wearing a very unhappy face.

Cheng Pian didn’t know why, but he felt a little relieved and adjusted his posture to continue watching the opening ceremony.

Lu Yao rubbed the back of the hand that Ji Jin had pinched painfully earlier; that hand secretly slipped into Ji Jin’s embrace again. “Brother still hasn’t said whether he agrees or not.”

His gaze was burning, demanding Ji Jin’s answer.

Ji Jin felt the warm hand in his embrace and glanced sideways at the person beside him, then casually said, “That depends on your skills.”

Lu Yao’s eyes lit up.

“Tomorrow’s solo show: the top three players of the All-Star event can choose someone to solo. Whoever wins can make one request that the other must fulfill,” Ji Jin raised an eyebrow, confident.

Legend Reappearance had a hero solo match mode. Each hero had strengths and weaknesses, so solo matches weren’t really fair.

But solo matches had simple maps and straightforward modes, mostly head-to-head fights, making it easier to improve skills and techniques. This mode was favored by many technical players.

Before retiring, Ji Jin had never lost a solo match, maintaining a 100% win rate for years, with many classic public solo games.

For example, the most famous was when he completely shut out Lu Yao in a solo match. At that time, Lu Yao was about to join the IKW team, and many other teams wanted to recruit him for a high price.

But when graduating from the youth training camp, he was defeated 0-5 by Ji Jin.

“Deal?” Lu Yao’s eyes shone brightly, as if stars had fallen into them.

“Of course,” Ji Jin chuckled lightly, but his eyes carried more fighting spirit. “I’ve been retired for three years—you can’t just assume you’ll beat me.”

“I’ll try hard,” Lu Yao said clearly and firmly.

He would try hard to catch up, try hard to surpass.

Try hard… to defeat you.

Ji Xingxing couldn’t stand the slightly favored “uncle” next to him taking up his dad, so he jumped straight from the nearby chair into Ji Jin’s arms.

“I want neinei!” Ji Xingxing coquettishly clung to Ji Jin, burying his little head in his dad’s arms but sneaking a glance at Lu Yao nearby, asserting his claim.

Then Lu Yao reached out and rubbed Ji Xingxing’s little head, took a small yogurt box with a straw from his bag, and handed it to Ji Xingxing with a teasing smile.

The move didn’t do much damage but was highly insulting.

Ji Xingxing immediately grunted, deciding he never wanted to see that stinky uncle again.

But the little yogurt was really delicious!

At that moment, the two adults and the child properly started watching the opening ceremony.

Most of the ceremony had already ended, and now it was time for the biggest highlight on the first day of the All-Star event — the Rookie Challenge.

Every All-Star event selected five rookies who had joined the professional league for less than a year. These rookies mostly had impressive performances in previous matches, like MOE’s Cheng Pian.

In the second spring season game against the strong team CYW, Cheng Pian had blocked three players at once and secured a double kill, creating an opportunity for teammates to push down the enemy’s high ground tower. However, that match was still lost to CYW due to skill gaps.

Ji Jin had watched the other rookies’ games too, and their performances were decent, just a bit inexperienced. The league held the Rookie Challenge to help nurture these rising stars.

After all, nobody knew if among these rookies there might be a future Ji Jin or Lu Yao.

The order of the Rookie Challenge matches was drawn by lot, and coincidentally, Cheng Pian was first. But nobody expected that when the host asked who he wanted to challenge most, Cheng Pian answered —

IKW’s Gentleman.

The entire stadium went quiet for a moment.

The IKW team’s members had IDs named after playing cards: Queen, Jack, Ace, and Joker (Q.J.A. Ghost). The only one that didn’t fit the pattern was Gentleman.

IKW.Gentleman was Lu Yao’s ID. Due to pronunciation, Gentleman was also called Brick, so Lu Yao had another nickname: Brick guy.

As for the missing King from the deck, it had now become MOE’s King.

When Cheng Pian chose Lu Yao, even Zhao Ze got restless and angrily slapped his thigh. He remembered Cheng Pian and Lu Yao had no personal grudge and had barely interacted before, so why was he so fired up to challenge Lu Yao?

The All-Star event was essentially a benefit for gamers, and the matches were mostly for entertainment. So rookies and All-Star players usually chose opponents they got along with or who had similar skill levels for solo challenges.

Lu Yao and Cheng Pian barely knew each other, met only a few times, and had only played a few matches together. Also, Lu Yao’s game skill was much higher than Cheng Pian’s. Even if Cheng Pian held back, he might not beat Lu Yao. If he lost badly or got a shutout, it would embarrass the entire MOE team.

Moreover, IKW had just won the championship, and Lu Yao was the Finals MVP. Cheng Pian was just a rookie. Challenging a senior so rashly would likely get him roasted online.

Not only was Zhao Ze surprised, but Ji Jin and Lu Yao sitting in the last row were also stunned that Cheng Pian directly challenged Lu Yao.

But Ji Jin didn’t care much. If he were in Cheng Pian’s place, he would also want to challenge Lu Yao. Both were junglers, and Lu Yao was like the peak of the jungle position in RPL; anyone in that position would want to experience the summit’s view.

That was the joy of competition — constantly pushing limits and peaks.

Ji Jin knew Lu Yao shared the same thoughts. Because the person next to him didn’t speak but tidied his uniform and walked directly toward the stage.

When the challenger went on stage, the camera usually followed to capture their entrance. But this time, the camera searched repeatedly between the All-Star players’ area and IKW’s area and still couldn’t find Lu Yao.

Instead, a message suddenly flashed across the big screen’s comment feed —

“Am I blind? Brick just walked over from the MOE team area??? Did he walk past God Ji???”

Author’s note:

Lu Yao acted cute: “Brother.”

Ji Xingxing acted cute: “Daddy!”

Ji Jin said: “Enough, enough, you two little charmers.”

  1. Even though he doubtless can’t win, I really hope CP surprises everyone in this match, and it’s not an easy win for LY.
I have a feeling LY might cheat in some way, if he gets up against JJ, with such a prize in his sights that he’s desperate to secure.
Thank you both for the chapter.
