Chapter 48: Daddy and Uncle

After the first week of the competition ended, Ji Jin finally found time to properly spend with Ji Xingxing.
Usually during the competition, it was Ji Huan who picked Ji Xingxing up, or Zhao Ze, who missed him so much he couldn’t bear it anymore, would take the child to play for a while. So even though Lu Yao knew Ji Xingxing was his son, he had never had the chance to formally acknowledge it. Lu Yao wasn’t in a hurry either. The recent competitions had been intense, and if they were going to acknowledge each other, he wanted to find the right moment.
After the first week ended, the Lu family worried that Ji Jin wouldn’t be able to handle the intense matches, so they hired a nanny to take care of him. Lu Yao took the opportunity to bring Ji Jin to live in his apartment, and naturally, Ji Xingxing came along too.
Ji Jin packed up their things with Ji Xingxing. Ji Xingxing didn’t quite understand where they were going, but since they had moved once before, he was now very good at packing his little bag.
“Daddy, are we leaving again?” Ji Xingxing sat on the bed, his short legs swinging. His backpack was already packed, just waiting to go.
“Baby, you don’t want to go?” Ji Jin was packing his clothes into a suitcase. He didn’t have much stuff, so it didn’t take long. The only thing he hesitated over was a half-finished cross-stitch in the corner. He had started it after returning to the country but hadn’t touched it since joining MOE.
“This place… this place is kinda nice.” Ji Xingxing lowered his head thoughtfully.
He was so young, no one could figure out how he came to the conclusion that it was “kinda nice.”
“Then how about Daddy takes you somewhere even better?” Ji Jin ruffled Ji Xingxing’s little head. The dorm was fine, but he believed living with Lu Yao would be even better. After all… there’d be two people protecting Ji Xingxing now. “Would you like to live with Uncle Lu Yao?”
Ji Xingxing thought about it and nodded uncertainly. No one knew if he truly understood, but after a moment he perked up and said, “Uncle Lu Yao… good!”
Ji Jin didn’t expect Ji Xingxing to have such a high opinion of Lu Yao. Ji Xingxing usually didn’t like being around Alphas. Even within the MOE team, he preferred the Beta, Zhao Ze, and rarely interacted with the others. Thinking back, from the first time they met, Ji Xingxing had tolerated Lu Yao quite well.
Maybe… it was just the bond of father and son.
“Then would little Xingxing be willing to call him ‘Daddy’ too? Don’t call him Uncle, call him Daddy.” Ji Jin tested gently.
Ji Xingxing didn’t really understand. He tilted his head, looking puzzled. “Lu Yao is Uncle, why call Daddy? I only have you… one Daddy…”
“Daddy!” Ji Xingxing giggled and shouted “Daddy,” then said, “I want a Daddy hug!”
Ji Jin held him in his arms and softly said, “What if Lu Yao is your other Daddy? Then you’d have two Daddies.”
“Hm? Two Daddies?” Ji Xingxing looked even more confused. He snuggled into Ji Jin’s neck, smelling the sweet strawberry scent on his dad, and nodded sleepily.
Ji Jin thought he more or less understood, so he didn’t explain further.
Just then, the door to the dorm rang. Ji Jin took Ji Xingxing to open the door—it was Lu Yao and Ke Yu coming to help move.
Lu Yao was in front, Ke Yu behind. When Ji Xingxing saw his beloved Uncle Lu Yao, he rushed over and threw himself at Lu Yao’s leg. Then, remembering what his dad had just said, he shouted at the top of his lungs, “Daddy Lu Yao!”
That shout stunned Lu Yao. He stared dumbfounded at Ji Xingxing clinging to his leg, squatted down slowly, and his eyes sparkled.
To others, he looked completely overjoyed, almost silly with happiness—it was so silly it made people want to laugh.
Just as Lu Yao squatted down to give Ji Xingxing a proud Alpha dad’s hug, Ji Xingxing spotted Ke Yu behind him—and the next moment was mortifying.
“Hi Daddy Ke Yu!” Ji Xingxing greeted him too. He liked Ke Yu as well, since he had often seen him during competitions.
Immediately, all three adults’ expressions changed. The mood turned very awkward.
Ke Yu looked like he’d seen a ghost and instinctively took a couple steps back, trying to keep out of Lu Yao’s reach.
Lu Yao’s body stiffened, his face turned green, but he couldn’t react too strongly in front of Ji Xingxing. The joy that had just been on his face froze awkwardly.
Ji Jin covered his face—he blamed Lu Yao for arriving too early. He hadn’t had time to explain properly! Judging by this, Ji Xingxing had probably misunderstood and thought all uncles should now be called Daddy.
Ji Xingxing sensed the strange tension in the air, so he stayed quiet but still didn’t understand what he’d done wrong. He lowered his head and slowly burrowed into Ji Jin’s arms.
Lu Yao saw how the child shrank back and didn’t dare say anything. He could only accept this nonexistent green hat and looked at Ji Jin with grievance and confusion.
Ji Jin felt like he should say something, but didn’t know how to explain it. Eventually, he said dryly, “Ke Yu isn’t your daddy, Xingxing. Don’t call him that. Other uncles are still uncles. Only me and Lu Yao are your daddies, okay?”
“But I only have one daddy. Why is Uncle Lu Yao a daddy?” Ji Xingxing asked in a daze.
Ji Jin: …
“Let’s move first. We’ll talk about it later.” Ji Jin couldn’t take it anymore and decided to brush it off for now. Ji Xingxing nodded and held onto Ji Jin’s clothes, quietly waiting.
Hearing that, Ke Yu finally dared to enter the dorm and help with the moving. Lu Yao wasn’t happy, but thinking about taking Ji Jin back to his own place made him feel a bit better.
Ji Jin was pregnant, and Ji Xingxing was still small, so Lu Yao and Ke Yu mainly handled the moving. Fortunately, there wasn’t much stuff, and after one or two trips, they were almost done.
“Did brother do this too?” Lu Yao looked around once the moving was almost finished and noticed the half-finished cross-stitch in the corner.
When he picked it up, Ji Jin felt a flicker in his heart but quickly regained his composure. “I learned a bit of embroidery when I was young. Cross-stitch is simple—just something I do for fun.”
“Really?” Lu Yao looked at the faded fabric of the half-finished cross-stitch. It clearly hadn’t been touched in a long time. If it were just for fun, he would’ve worked on it whenever he had time—it wouldn’t have faded like this. It had probably been abandoned for two or three months.
Lu Yao didn’t know cross-stitch could be sold, but he was sure Ji Jin hadn’t done it for fun—maybe… out of necessity.
He picked up the cross-stitch and tucked it into the luggage he was carrying, then said to Ji Jin, “Brother, let’s go home.”
He would never let him be forced to do something like this again.
“Okay.” Ji Jin nodded. He felt Lu Yao’s gaze was a little intense but didn’t know why.
But if Lu Yao was happy, then that was enough.
Thinking that way… Ji Jin suddenly felt a chill down his spine. He remembered he still hadn’t told Ji Huan the truth about Ji Xingxing’s parentage. If Ji Huan suddenly came charging over someday…
Ji Jin shivered.
Once everything was packed, Lu Yao drove Ji Jin and Ji Xingxing to his apartment. Ke Yu, afraid Ji Xingxing would say something shocking again, dropped off the boxes and left in a hurry. The remaining three stayed to organize.
Ji Jin’s belongings were placed in the master bedroom, and Ji Xingxing’s were put into the children’s room, with Ji Jin unpacking for him. Ji Xingxing played with his Maka Paka toy.
Lu Yao stood at the door of the children’s room, dazed at the sight. His precious son was sitting on the carpet talking to his toy, and the person he loved most was organizing his child’s things. All Lu Yao had to do was walk in and hold them both.
And that’s exactly what he did.
Ji Jin was sorting out Ji Xingxing’s harness when Lu Yao suddenly hugged him from behind.
“What are you doing…” Ji Jin clicked his tongue softly. As an Omega, his body temperature was lower. Being held by Lu Yao’s warm Alpha hands made his whole waist feel hot.
He was over two months pregnant now—with twins—so his previously flat stomach already had a slight curve.
At the last prenatal check, both babies had strong heartbeats. Ji Jin’s health was good, and with Lu Yao’s pheromones supporting him since returning, the babies were growing well with no issues.
When he was pregnant with Ji Xingxing, he hadn’t been marked and didn’t have an Alpha’s pheromones. His body had been sensitive and difficult to handle, and Ji Xingxing had been restless in the womb, lacking the comfort of an Alpha father’s scent.
It had been much harder than now.
But thankfully, he endured and gave birth to the smart and adorable Ji Xingxing.
“I’m not messing around, brother,” Lu Yao murmured, nuzzling Ji Jin’s neck, brushing his Alpha scent over the sensitive gland. “I just realized we need to get a bigger house. This one is too small.”
“This one… is pretty good…” Ji Jin didn’t understand why Lu Yao thought it was too small. It wasn’t like they couldn’t afford more. The Lu family and Lu Yao both had money, and Ji Jin himself could save enough for a house in a couple of years of gaming.
In fact, he liked the small place. It wasn’t even that small—it was spacious for a family of three, with a spare room for a nanny. If the house were too big, it would feel empty and cold.
“It’s enough for now, but if brother gives birth to two more babies, it won’t be enough.” Lu Yao whispered into Ji Jin’s ear, his soft voice even more seductive than when emotional. Ji Jin’s ears tingled. “We should buy a big house—one room for us, one for the two babies, and one for big brother Ji Xingxing. And a little garden where the babies can run and play.”
“Don’t you think that sounds good… brother?”
For a moment, Ji Jin could almost see it—two babies on the swings in the garden, Ji Xingxing frowning at them…
Author’s note:
Every time Ji Xingxing called Ke Yu “Daddy,” an innocent Ke Yu met his end at Lu Yao’s hands.
