Chapter 104: Lover’s Lover

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

18L: Ahhh, OP’s pic is so blurry! Low effort! But even so, you can tell the long-haired guy next to Marshal Chu is pretty sharp-looking.

19L: Speaking of hair… I remembered when Marshal Chu came back, Zhou Pingbo was walking beside him, and his thinning hair was tragic. Why won’t he just get a hair transplant? Marion Empire’s hair tech is top-notch!

20L: Top-notch transplant tech is built on countless programmers and researchers sacrificing themselves in the process!

21L: Zhou Pingbo’s probably a stingy capitalist refusing to spend on transplants 🙂 Hair transplants are really expensive, sob. I want flowing hair, not a young balding patch.

22L: Maybe Principal Zhou’s just too busy juggling multiple jobs.

23L: Or maybe it’s an E-level alpha thing — just bad hair genetics.

24L: You idiot, get out! What’s your rank anyway? Even at your highest, can you match half of Professor Zhou’s achievements?

25L: Zhou Pingbo’s an exception… Most low-level alphas have the same IQ as stamina — pretty bad. Marshal Chu is a certified S-Class alpha, strength no one can deny.

26L: Can the whole rank-and-bloodline discourse just leave my world, please?!

27L: Haha, the salty low-level alpha crying upstairs is probably one of them. If you hate rank and bloodline talk so much, move to the Alliance next door — they don’t even separate ABO genders there. Heard AA romances are thriving; you’d just be a doormat there.

28L: No way, what era is this? Still discriminating against AA relationships?

29L: Heh.

30L: Okay, okay, take your fights to the other forum. What I’m curious about is that the beauty in the photo doesn’t look like an alpha — probably an omega? Wonder if their kid can inherit Marshal Chu’s genes and become an S-Class alpha too.

31L: Maybe an S-Class omega?

32L: But the beauty doesn’t seem omega. He’s only about half a head shorter than Marshal Chu. Marshal Chu’s 196cm; that guy’s probably around 188cm, way taller than average male omegas. Plus, he’s only slim by comparison. I bet his wrists could take out three shop owners next door.

33L: What? Could Marshal Chu actually be in an AA relationship?

34L: What about us betas? Don’t we exist?

35L: No offense, but Marshal Chu’s so cold, without AO physiological traits attracting him, it’s hard to imagine who he’d love.

36L: Reply to 30L: Have you thought whether Heinrich Chu can even… work? Also, with only half-human blood, can he have kids with a human?

56L: Probably can. My friend’s in noble circles and told me a huge secret that shocked me, but I believe it. Believe it or not, up to you.

57L: Hate half-told stories, like you, 56L.

58L: Breaking news! Rumor says Marshal Chu has a beta lover. He even took him along on the ancient Earth expedition, and they already have a private child.

59L: ?

60L: ???

61L: !???

82L: Honest question: why call him a “lover”? Marshal Chu isn’t married, and “illegitimate child” is wrong — it’s an out-of-wedlock kid, at best.

83L: Because the beta’s a commoner, ordinary status, can’t be Marshal Chu’s official wife. Probably the long-haired handsome beta in the photo.

84L: Help… why do rank, bloodline, gender, and class discrimination all pop up in this thread?

85L: Better accept reality. The Imperial upper class only marries inside their own circles. Not always nobles marrying nobles, but definitely no commoners. No matter how pretty or likeable, commoners only serve as toys.

Otherwise, why wouldn’t Marshal Chu just go public? Back when General Chu Suifeng brought Marshal Chu’s father back, no hiding at all — the dragon instantly reverted to his true form, burned the Chu family mansion to ashes, and the Chu family spent years rebuilding.

176L: BREAKING! Found out who Marshal Chu’s lover is! Lin Xu! A friend of a friend was his classmate at Capital Star University. Lin Xu has a PhD in ancient Earth studies and now works as a senior researcher at the Ancient Earth Natural Science Museum.

177L: Checked the museum website — there’s Lin Xu’s ID photo. Looks even slimmer back then. Love really does nourish people, huh?

178L: Raise hand! I know Master Lin! He’s famous in our niche ancient Earth research circle — high achievements and a quirky temper, hates meeting people, only emails.

179L: Ha, no matter how quirky, if there’s a rich and powerful alpha, they’ll cozy right up.

180L: Don’t be so gross, not everyone who cozies up to Marshal Chu gets accepted.

Capital Star, Imperial Palace.

The Parliament building, the Prime Minister’s residence, and the Imperial Supreme Court all stood within the same area, forming the political center of the Marion Empire. Beyond a lush forest to the west and a moat, there was a cluster of white marble palaces preserving the architectural style of ancient Earth.

A squad of Imperial Guards dressed in elaborate white uniforms led a sturdy middle-aged alpha wearing a full formal suit through a vibrant garden to a glass greenhouse.

The court lady spotted their arrival and stepped inside to notify those within. After receiving confirmation, she returned to the door with a smile and a nod. “Duke Paris, His Majesty the Emperor invites you inside.”

Bolayton Paris straightened his collar, took a deep breath, and stepped into the greenhouse. Immediately, a variety of colorful, bizarre alien plants came into view—some even moved on their own, shaking their broad blue leaves.

His Majesty, the Emperor was pruning a plant called the Bellflower Plum. Each snip caused the bonsai-like plant, resembling a red plum blossom, to tremble and emit a fragile scream.

The Emperor wore a white casual robe and bore a calm, steady expression. When Bolayton bowed to him, the Emperor set down his shears and smiled in return.
“Good morning, Duke Paris.”
“Good morning, Your Majesty.”
“What brings you here?”

Bolayton’s lips trembled slightly, a trace of nervousness crossing his face. He lowered his head to conceal it but maintained a respectful attitude toward the Emperor. “It concerns the follow-up handling of the G398 star incident.”

“Oh,” the Emperor replied casually, picking up his shears again to tend the Bellflower Plum. “The handling isn’t complete yet? It’s been nearly half a year.”

“We have already dealt with Marianna Perser.”

“Hm, well done,” the Emperor answered without much interest. “I authorized you to request assistance from the First Legion. There are three insiders in total, but you’ve only dealt with one so far. Duke Paris, I must say I’m worried about you.”

“The other two… are proving difficult. One is the son of the Elam Fleet’s vice-marshal Kalt; the other has recently grown very close to Heinrich Chu. We haven’t found an opportunity to act.”

“Very close?” The Emperor chuckled lightly. “Could they not be sleeping in the same bed day and night?”

Bolayton bowed his head even lower. “Something like that.”

“Hmm?” The Emperor turned around, intrigued. “Heinrich slept with him?”

“That’s right… I heard they even have a child,” Bolayton said. “We could find chances to assassinate, but we worry Heinrich would investigate relentlessly afterward.”

“Then find a way to separate them,” the Emperor said. “A few days ago, Grand Duke Chu asked about the banquet, hoping Heinrich would take a fancy to a noble omega there, and that I might arrange a marriage.”

“But…” Bolayton hesitated. “Even if Heinrich married a noble omega, he could still keep his lover by his side.”

The Emperor laughed twice. “Nobles may have lovers, but few can tolerate their lovers having lovers of their own. This is a simple matter; there’s no need for bloodshed. Duke Paris, since Largo Paris died in battle, no formidable general has come from the Paris family. It’s time to admit that Largo Paris was a unique genius, and none of the others inherited an ounce of his talent.”

“…Thank you for your guidance, Your Majesty.” Bolayton stiffened his neck and bowed deeply.

Lin Xu and Heinrich spent three days repairing the water-damaged second floor. The new wooden floor was installed and freshly waxed; once dried, furniture could be placed.

Heinrich finally had the chance to lie down on Lin Xu’s bed, closing his eyes and letting himself be enveloped by the honey-scented comforter and pillows. Two rabbit-cats clawed angrily at the foot of the bed—the new human occupant had taken their usual spot. Blackie and Snowy hadn’t expected that after returning home, they would still be forced to sleep squeezed between pillows.

Lin Xu’s old bed was narrower than the standard beds in Area H, so Heinrich and Lin Xu had to squeeze in at night, leaving even less space for the rabbit-cats.

Lately, the rabbit-cats had been in a bad mood, chasing the blue squirrels in chaotic play. A few days ago, after Heinrich threw away several boxes of peculiar-flavored supplies, Lin Xu discovered a few bottles of the same flavored liquids in the nightstand drawer.

The next day, he was late for work. Curator Zhao lamented, asking sadly if Lin Xu had started neglecting his duties after coming into money.

Previously, Lin Xu had caused the lab’s equipment to short-circuit and explode. Curator Zhao stared at the repair bills with a heavy heart, agonizing over which budget to cut to afford new instruments. Suddenly, Lin Xu told him he would cover all the compensation.

Curator Zhao was shocked, unsure where Lin Xu had gotten a sudden windfall, especially after he also sent two pieces of antique calligraphy and paintings. Once the funds arrived, the new equipment was quickly delivered and installed. Lin Xu ignored Curator Zhao’s stunned reactions and dove back into the lab.

After reading the diary entries in the red leather-bound book, one question lingered in his mind. The medals found on planet G398 dated back only six hundred years, yet all other ancient artifacts had been reliably dated to over three thousand years by Earth scholars. If the items aboard the Ark fleet had lost two thousand years trapped inside the Zerg cave, why could some be dated to three thousand years?
