Chapter 17: It was a fish tail

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

The red crystal cracked along a slender vein, and his canine teeth embedded themselves in the crack. With a flash of light, Lin Xu bit down on a third of the stone, energy pouring in along the crack, and as he chewed the crystal, energy and debris stretched down his throat and all the way to his limbs and bones.

“Mmm…” he grunted softly, feeling that he had made the right choice in not swallowing the entire crystal at once.

The energy contained in this crystal was equivalent to an S-Class zombie core, and Lin Xu had not absorbed a core for too long, so if he ate the entire crystal at once, he was afraid that his powers would go out of control and go berserk.

The water glass and monitor on the desk floated shakily, and the whole desk trembled, as if trying to escape the control of artificial gravity inside the starship.

No… It wasn’t much better now.

Lin Xu raised his hand and gently pressed his fingers, the desk was instantly secured, the water cup and monitor fell back to the desktop with a thud. Lin Xu cleared his throat, his fingertips moved slightly, the water cup took off again and fell into his palm.

The third item of the psychic power transformation, telekinesis.

Telekinesis consumed a huge amount of energy, and in the last few years, Lin Xu would not use it.

He tilted his head and finished drinking the water in the cup. The dryness on his lips was still not relieved. This was a fire-attribute crystal, and the dry, burning energy made him feel like he was being baked dry from the inside out.

The wall of the glass reflected the fine scales emerging from his wrist, and Lin Xu sensed that something was wrong.

His legs swelled with pain, his bones and muscles felt like they were about to crumble, and suddenly his knees went weak and he fell to the ground. The scales on his wrists scratched against the poly-fiber mixed metal floor, making a sharp, piercing noise.

He was only a few steps away from the bathtub, his legs could not move, so he used his arms to support his own form to move into the tub.

The tub began to fill, and the cold water flowed over his burning skin, almost giving off a puff of steam, and he finally felt a little relieved.

Lin Xu moved his legs, no, now he should call them his tail, and the water in the tub gradually rose, pressing the dark, steel shiny tail of the fish below the surface, and between the waves, the shadows showed the scales opening and closing.

The bathtub was large enough for an adult male to lie down and straighten his feet, but the length of the fish tail far exceeded the length of normal human legs, plus the wide, soft tail fins, already more than two meters, only the tip of the condescending tail position was exposed outside the water.

Lin Xu ripped off the top that was in the way – the pants had burst when the legs became a fishtail, and the rags fell pathetically by the door, with scales at the wrists and elbows and soft, fluttering fins showing along with the water.

This was the result of deep-sea mutant gene transplantation. Initially, the chief physician just wanted Lin Xu’s body to be able to adapt to the strong pressure and low temperature of the sea floor, not expecting the mutant’s genes to be so strong and overbearing that it directly made Lin Xu grow a fish tail, and the long sharp nails were also the work of deep-sea genes.

After the transformation, Lin Xu’s body became prone to water shortage, so he liked the humid and cloudy climate on Endymion. The Victoria had a constant temperature and humidity inside, which was suitable for human survival, but it was a bit dry for Lin Xu. It was not a big problem and could be tolerated.

But the sudden fire energy made him lose moisture instantly. If he had flung himself into the bathtub later, he suspected that Xu Xing would find a dry and baked fish when he knocked on the door tomorrow morning.

Gently swinging the tail of the fish, the strong tail made the water in the tub swell back and forth like waves, overflowing the edge and dripping all over the place.

Lin Xu stayed in the bathtub for a long time.

Arnold was heading to the Foreign Affairs Office. The Abyss Fleet would dock in five days at the Far Star Airport, the foremost airport in the Empire, to replenish supplies and energy, and when it set sail again, the Abyss Fleet would leave the confines of human civilization and travel alone to Earth. The Marshal told the Foreign Affairs Office to do a good job of docking with the Fifth Legion stationed at the airport.

Zhou Pingbo suddenly appeared around a corner to stop him, startling Arnold into taking a few steps back, “Professor Zhou! What are you doing?”

“I want to ask you something.” Zhou Pingbo held Arnold’s shoulders and didn’t let him step back, “How is Lin Xu’s injury?”

“Is Mr. Lin injured… Oh, you mean the one that the Marshal gave him, ahem,” Arnold covered his lips and coughed a few times, then returned to normal, “The wound healed a long time ago, just need to wait patiently for the scars to disappear.”

“I mean, is the smell of your Marshal Chu’s pheromone still there?” Zhou Pingbo shook Arnold, “I want to go to him, but I’m afraid Heinrich’s pheromone will wash me out.”

Arnold replied, “It hasn’t completely dissipated, but the aggressiveness is already very weak.”

“Good, good, thanks a lot.” Zhou Pingbo shouted, moving Arnold out of the way and striding in the direction of the elevator.

Arnold looked at his excited back, thought about it, but still looked down and sent a message to the Marshal, telling him that Zhou Pingbo had gone to look for Mr. Lin.

Zhou Pingbo had access to Area H, where Heinrich’s room was located. Besides him and Arnold, only Lin Xu, and Xu Xing, the logistician in charge of Lin Xu’s daily life, were left with access to Area H.

Ryan definitely did not, and there had been no opportunity to see Lin Xu in the past few days.

Zhou Pingbo’s shoe heel had just made contact with the ground in Area H when Heinrich, who was standing in front of door 002, looked up at him with a look that sent hairs down Zhou Pingbo’s back and he ran quickly with his arms in his hands, “I’m looking for Lin Xu.”

“Mn, he hasn’t gone out, he should be here.”

Heinrich’s words sounded unemotional, but Zhou Pingbo didn’t feel the hairs on his back improve as he poked his head in and asked cautiously, “Should I knock on the door? Lin Xu shouldn’t be resting at this hour.”

Heinrich lifted his chin, and Zhou Pingbo walked reassuringly to room 003 opposite 002 and raised his hand to knock on the door.

After knocking, he waited for a while.

No movement.

Heinrich’s face turned cold with the naked eye, and Zhou Pingbo knocked again.

The hermeticity of the rooms on the starship was extremely strong, which could ensure that when the hull broke, the gas in the individual rooms would not leak out and cause the people inside to suffocate. The sound insulation effect was also very good, Heinrich this time did not hear any sound, and could not smell any scent.

The air supply system in the corridor worked diligently and the artificial air was odorless. Heinrich had just returned from the mecha maintenance room and the smell of oil still lingered in his nose.

The smell of motor oil was dizzying, no match for the sweet aroma of the Cacamorra plains hut…

“Ruth, is Lin Xu out yet?”

“Hello, Marshal Chu, Mr. Lin has remained in room 003.” Ruth monitored the entire starship at all times, but to protect the privacy of the private area, even Heinrich was not authorized to ask for more information than the location of the personnel.

Zhou Pingbo said, “Maybe he didn’t hear it.”

He was about to try one last time when a sudden muffled bang came from the room, startling him into taking a few steps back and bumping into Heinrich’s arm.

The door and walls were well soundproofed; what could have made such a noise?

Before the two tried to force the door open, the door opened and Zhou Pingbo sighed in relief.

What Zhou Pingbo did not know was that Heinrich was also relieved. He could kick open the wooden door, but could not do anything about the alloy door, but the next moment, his spirit instantly tightened.

Behind the door, Lin Xu was draped in a bathrobe, barefoot, his loose black hair seemed to have grown a little longer, falling at the collar, dripping wet, droplets sliding into the collar along the line of his collarbone and chest.

He looked at the two alpha’s at the door and spoke in a voice a little lower than usual, “Hello, Marshal Chu, this is…”

The sweet aroma of water misting hot air came to his face, Heinrich inhaled through his nose and immediately held his breath, but it was of little use, the sweet aroma had already entered his brain and nagged at him to descend.

Zhou Pingbo, who was also an alpha, didn’t smell anything.

“…Did something happen just now?”

Probably because he just came out of the bathroom, Lin Xu’s originally pale skin floated a layer of red, along with the water droplets on his fine eyelashes, as if a white rose that drew red silk after the wind and water and rain.

The brilliant color stimulated Heinrich’s five senses, making him forget to even answer Lin Xu’s question and look straight at each other.

“Oh,” Lin Xu’s heat-stained lips parted and closed, “I accidentally broke the bathtub and smashed it on the floor.”

He was awakened by the knock on the door and due to the lack of attention, he swept his tail out and snapped the bottom half of the bathtub. The entire bathroom was flooded with water, and Lin Xu’s fishtail quickly turned back to his legs in the water as he rushed out to open the door.

“The damage was reported to Ruth, she said to let the robot repair it.” Heinrich said.

Left out in the cold, Zhou Pingbo stepped in to introduce himself, and Lin Xu looked over at him, missing Heinrich’s rolling Adam’s apple, clenched palms and drops of sweat on the side of his forehead.

“Mr. Lin, my name is Zhou Pingbo and I work at the Imperial Research Institute.” Zhou Pingbo extended his hand to Lin Xu, “I’ve met Mr. Lin before.”

Lin Xu slowly extended his hand to shake back, his hand had no water stains, but Zhou Pingbo felt a strange cold and wet touch, Lin Xu and his hand parted at the touch, Zhou Pingbo was again a little unsure of the touch he had just felt.

“Hello, Professor Zhou, have we met before?”

The author has something to say.

Give everyone a shake of the fish tail that will be quite useful in the future.

And bless Marshal Chu who is occasionally stolen by the aroma.
