Chapter 38: Where’s Lin Xu?!

The bee-shaped Zerg was an advance scout for the Zerg army. Lin Xu turned around and ran towards the craft. The stinger behind him penetrated into the electromagnetic barrier one centimeter at a time. Two-thirds of the stinger penetrated into the barrier, and when it was all the way in, a hole would be torn in the barrier by the Zerg’s body.
Lin Xu climbed aboard the craft, located the emergency marker, and fired it overhead. The marker trailed a red tail and soared through the dust as the stinger continued to fight its way into the barrier. As the electromagnetic barrier was broken open by the bee-shaped Zerg, the marker rounds reached the zenith and exploded in bright white light.
Surveillance equipment outside the Delta area could see the dazzling light marker, and the special band of rays emitted by the marker bomb would be immediately detected by radio monitors from all sides.
The craft was not equipped with long-range attack weapons, so Lin Xu pulled the hatch and took off immediately, while the AI sounded a shrill alarm echoing in his ears, reminding the pilot that he had exceeded the speed limit and to stop immediately!
The craft was accelerated to the limit, leaving a series of sonic booms in the air, but not enough to drown out the hum of the bee-shaped Zerg’s wings as they followed. The electromagnetic barrier was torn, the air stored in the fortress was caught in the vacuum, the temperature dropped extremely rapidly, and all kinds of radiation that had been isolated from the air entered.
The Zerg were able to move and attack in the vacuum of the universe by the power of their own bodies, and the bee-shaped Zerg belonged to the fast Zerg, and were as big as the flying machine, or even bigger. Bee-shaped Zerg have no special attack means, extreme speed was his sharp edge. They were irrational, unstoppable attack weapons.
Lin Xu pulled the lever upwards, lifting the front of the craft towards the zenith, followed by the Bee Zerg, and another Bee Zerg flew in at the barrier cavity!
Some distance away from the Delta Sector, communications gradually resumed and Ika’s intermittent voice could be heard, “Lin Xu…did you see…the Zerg!”
“Zerg advance troops have penetrated the barrier, turn on the alarm!”
“The Silver Fortress…has no…alert.” Ika’s voice was cut off by an electric current, and a shrill Star Pirates attack alert followed inside the fortress, “Hold on…I’m replacing it with Abyss Fleet Zerg…alert.”
Three seconds later, the fortress security control system was breached by Ika, and the alarm around the fortress was replaced by Ruth’s cold voice, “Zerg invasion, all units in position, Zerg invasion, all units in position.”
Zerg lair was in the direction of Crescent District, more than ten light years away from the Silver Fortress, the Silver Fortress designers never thought that the Zerg could cross the Crescent District to attack the fortress, simply did not set up Zerg early warning system and defense facilities.
During the conversation, the vehicle piloted by Lin Xu reached the zenith, he suddenly turned and crashed backwards into the bee-shaped Zerg’s head and torso joint. It was difficult to tell which was harder, the Zerg shell or the material the craft was made of, but at supersonic speed, the sharp craft broke through the bee-shaped Zerg’s torso and the goo exploded in mid-air as a tiny figure jumped out of the damaged craft at that moment.
Lin Xu, holding the joystick stripped from the craft in his hand, controlled the direction to land on the back of the second bee-shaped Zerg, a handful of the ruggedly sharp base of the joystick stabbed into the Zerg brain, forcing the Zerg to twitch and crash to the ground.
After finishing the two bee-shaped Zerg, the gap in the electromagnetic barrier was still stinging with electric sparks, but the universe returned to darkness except for the sound of the whistling, sweeping wind. Then the wreckage of the craft fell from the sky behind Lin Xu, exploding into flames that enveloped Lin Xu’s form. But after the burning sound gradually subsided, the wind continued to send the buzzing of the Zerg’s wings.
Looking up – the electromagnetic barriers in all directions of the Delta district were densely crawling with Zerg, countless spikes poking into the inside of the barrier, the blue-green aurora flowing on the barrier was disordered under the attack. The Zerg’s biological attack and Star Pirates’ physical weapon attack were two different paths.
The Silver Fortress defense barrier had no way to resist. The Zerg act in groups forever, and are always difficult to eliminate. After falling back to the ground, the communication was cut off again.
A shadow suddenly began to expand from the edge of the barrier, like a dark shadow in daylight, gradually enveloping Lin Xu, who was half-kneeling to cushion the impact of his fall.
He looked up, his hair mixed with the wind rolled forward, confusion in the field of vision, a piece of pale green and purple armor slowly moving.
Continuing to tilt his head, he could see that this piece of armor was the abdomen of a giant Zerg. It was twenty meters high, the abdomen pressed in countless bee-shaped Zerg penetrated the gap, arcs of electricity in the barrier, as fragile spider webs about to be torn apart by the giant.
This Zerg had four eyes, exposed pitch-black eyeballs turned to look at the ground compact human, bullhorn-like mouthpiece friction dripping liquid. The green liquid fell on the metal floor, searing and corroding a crater more than a meter in diameter before setting the metal on fire.
Lin Xu pursed his lips and withdrew his eyes, walking towards the bee-shaped Zerg that was nailed to the ground with the lever. The giant Zerg seemed like a mountain, no matter how far Lin Xu stepped out, he barely moved in relation to it.
The barrier broke, like shattered glass falling with illumination. Lin Xu drew up the joystick inserted into the Zerg’s brain and looked at the Zerg again, the air gradually thinned and he felt breathless. He weighed the half-formed iron rod in his hand, turned and ran. Who would fight Zerg in the flesh?
—
Zhou Pingbo was shaken awake.
“Ugh…” he rubbed his cheeks sleepily, the desktop light screen lined up with a piece of unread character information, “What happened?”
Ika didn’t look back, “Saw a B-Class Zerg, I hacked into the Silver Fortress security control system and marshaled ten electromagnetic railguns to fire at it, the gas wave was so violent that the Victoria took some impact.”
“B-Class Zerg, oh… ten railguns is a bit too many, three is enough… Wait what the hell?!” Zhou Pingbo’s eyes widened as he came to his senses completely, “Where did the B-Class Zerg come from?”
“I don’t know.”
Zhou Pingbo rolled and crawled to Ika’s workbench, thousands of surveillance screens, operation screens, and data screens hovered in front of the desk, reflecting his face into blue.
The electromagnetic railgun attack on the Zerg was at the forefront, and Zhou Pingbo exclaimed, “How could the Silver Fortress have met the Zerg? He’s still inside the fortress!”
“I turned on the Zerg invasion alert.”
But from the surveillance footage, the Silver Fortress soldiers were confused for a moment when they heard the alien AI broadcast the Zerg invasion. The Silver Fortress’ enemies were Star Pirates, smugglers and extraterrestrials criminals, not Zerg!
“Why is there an A-Class Zerg?!” Zhou Pingbo saw the newly appeared huge Zerg on the screen, couldn’t help but slap Ika hard on the shoulder and shouted, “Quick, quickly transfer twenty rail guns to fire at it!”
“Oh.” Ika controlled the system, “Fire.”
—
Twenty electromagnetic railguns radiated a dazzling light, blasting the A-Class Zerg just outside the barrier, the sticky Zerg bodily fluids exploding in space.
The glare reflected through the glass window into Carl Hill’s eyes, and on the comm channel was a technician reporting to him that the fortress’s security control system had been compromised and the intruder was positioned on the Victoria.
He sulked and faced Heinrich, “Marshal Chu, why would your people hack into the Silver Fortress’ security control system? Please, give me an explanation.”
Heinrich remained calm, gave Carl Hill a cold sweeping look and said, “Commander Hill, I think you should be concerned about how to deal with the Zerg right now.”
“I!” Carl Hill’s words stuck in his throat, he paced back and forth twice in a grumpy manner. The Zerg invasion alert from the Abyss Fleet was still whistling and flashing in the fortress, “the Silver Fortress has no weapons or preplans against the Zerg…”
He looked to his adjutant, “Colonel Lee, pass the order down, gather the airfield, put the airfield on military alert, and put the fortress on a level one operational status!”
“Yes!”
Heinrich contacted Ika again who sent the alert, “Ika, return command of the security system to the Silver Fortress. Arnold, inform the Abyss Fleet to sail out of the port, the men wind to send scout ships to identify the number of Zerg, mecha troops to prepare for combat.”
Arnold immediately took orders, and Heinrich told Carl Hill he was going back to the Victoria to take command of the battle.
On the way out, the impact of the various weapons at the edge of the fortress had been carried along the air to the interior, and the cacophony of gunfire and engines mixed with the sound of sirens was deafening.
Katherine Hill had thought to talk to Heinrich after he finished talking to his brother, but the sudden change of events caused her face to turn pale and tremble against the wall, clutching the hand of her attendant, as Heinrich marched past without parting a glance.
The Zerg were swarming creatures, and at the edge of the Crescent District, occasionally encountered a few Zerg acting alone, but the appearance of the A-Class Zerg represented at least a hundred Zerg starting outside! Such a Zerg formation was enough to fight against the Abyss Fleet.
The Silver Fortress had no weapons against the Zerg, and the Abyss Fleet’s voyage to ancient Earth was not equipped with weapons in accordance with the high level of combat. More space was used to store energy, Heinrich had to quickly confirm the attack strength of this group of Zerg.
Sitting on the exclusive craft, Captain Honda Agana, stationed on the Victoria, briefed him on the flagship’s armament. Heinrich suddenly remembered an audio message sent to him by Ika, saying that it had been forwarded to him by Lin Xu.
He tapped on the audio while listening to the report, only to hear a hoarse rambling, “They’re coming! Heinrich Chu will be killed…by Zerg…even if he’s not killed by humans.”
Heinrich’s heart clenched, interrupting Honda Agana first and turning to contact Ika. Lin Xu should be safely aboard the Victoria by now, how could he have gone to see Garier?
The comm came through, “Where’s Lin Xu? He’s not on the Victoria?”
“Ten minutes ago, Dr. Lin sensed a possible Zerg invasion, went to the Delta Sector where the invasion started, and asked me to send an early alert after finding the Zerg advance guard, and now he’s positioned at the edge of the Delta Sector.”
“Is he safe?” Heinrich’s shoulders were almost shaking, not sure if it was anger, tension or fear.
Ika pulled up the camera close to the Delta Sector and zoomed in to barely make out the blurry figure with the giant Zerg behind him, “There’s a C-Class Zerg chasing him…”
The voice on the other end suddenly paused.
“Ika! Speak.”
“The electromagnetic barrier exploded, and Dr. Lin fell out of the fortress with the Zerg…”
—
Lin Xu admitted that he was the one who underestimated the speed of movement of the mountain-like Zerg. Also, he should have carried a weapon with him. That way, he wouldn’t have to break the alloy pilot stick with one blow and then grow his own sharp claws to scratch the Zerg to death with difficulty.
The electromagnetic barrier was crushed by the Zerg’s body and collapsed and exploded, the shockwave lifted Lin Xu and the Zerg out together. Zerg could travel in the vacuum of the universe with the strength of its body, but the rays, cryogenic temperature and vacuum would kill humans in a dozen seconds.
Dark scales quickly began to spread from his waistline, Lin Xu’s sharp claws punctured the Zerg’s cerebellum and nervous system, and the giant insect began to convulse.
What the author has to say.
Do you have a story to tell today? There doesn’t seem to be one, so feel free to laugh at Heinrich. His wife ran away.
