Chapter 11: Old

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

“Welcome.”Ā

As the first guest at the ‘Restaurant,’ the person in the black guard uniform, Li Sinian warmly welcomed him, which was a rare change from his usually indifferent attitude.Ā

The young man raised his head as he spoke.Ā

The person in the black guard uniform was tall with long legs, and his demeanor was extraordinary. Li Sinian initially thought he was a young man, but when he looked up, he realized the person was clearly a teenager.Ā

The young man had a tall and slender figure. The black clothes made his already fair skin appear even whiter.Ā

His eyes were round, his nose high but not sharp, complemented by light chestnut-colored hair. It should have been a very obedient appearance, but due to the strong hostility in his eyes, it was hard to believe his outward demeanor. However, as soon as he met Li Sinian’s eyes, he smiled, and the hostility in his eyes was replaced by a gentle smile, dissipating it instantly.Ā

Li Sinian, experienced in reading people, could tell with just one glance that the young man in front of him wasn’t someone easy to deal with. However, since he was just a customer coming to eat, whether he was formidable or not was not his concern. He didn’t observe too closely; he had the duties of a small restaurant owner.Ā

Li Sinian gestured for the young man to sit down and handed him a menu. “Take a look and see what you’d like to eat.”Ā

However, the person in the black guard uniform didn’t look at the menu. He just stared at Li Sinian and smiled. “Boss, do you have any recommendations?”Ā

Li Sinian lowered his head to look at the menu. The dishes listed were all well-practiced and well-received by customers, all of his favorites. If he had to pick one that was exceptionally good… there was none, because he felt they were all outstanding.Ā

Seeing Li Sinian frowning at the menu, the person in the black guard uniform laughed even more. “Why are you more indecisive than me?”Ā

Li Sinian honestly replied, “Because I think all these dishes are delicious, and I recommend each one.”Ā

The person in the black guard uniform laughed heartily. “Since that’s the case, just go through the menu and bring me everything listed.”Ā

Li Sinian raised an eyebrow. “Can you finish all of it? Food is precious, and we discourage wastage in this restaurant.”Ā

“If I can’t finish it, can I take the leftovers with me?”Ā

Li Sinian looked at him for two seconds, tilted his head, and smiled. “Sure, no problem. But you’ve ordered quite a lot, so you might have to wait a bit.”Ā

“No problem.”Ā

Li Sinian went into the kitchen.Ā

His small menu had a total of thirty dishes, plus a few special main courses like noodles and fried rice, totaling fifty dishes. It was enough for him to handle.Ā

The person in the black guard uniform stared at Li Sinian’s figure until he disappeared before finally withdrawing his gaze.Ā

He glanced at his phone, finding it uninteresting, and started inspecting the small restaurant.Ā

To be honest, Li Sinian’s restaurant, whether in terms of location or decoration, was plain and unremarkable. It was the type of place people would stop by for a meal when hungry, but easily forget about afterward.Ā

It was precisely because it was too ordinary that it took him two months to find it.Ā

Li Sinian’s cooking speed wasn’t slow, but he was laid-back and disliked rushing, so the process was not particularly fast.Ā

The person in the black guard uniform arrived around five o’clock in the afternoon. In the tenth minute of his arrival, Li Sinian served the first dish. The subsequent dishes were brought out one by one, taking more than two, almost three, hours to complete all fifty dishes.Ā

When the last dish was served, the person in the black guard uniform took a few bites and, probably having eaten enough, put down his chopsticks after tasting the flavor.Ā

Li Sinian was almost exhausted. Sitting across from the person in the black guard uniform, he looked crooked and twisted.Ā

Despite being tired, he didn’t forget to ask the first customer about the taste of his dishes.Ā

The person in the black guard uniform replied, “Very delicious. Honestly, before coming to your little shop, I didn’t expect the food to be so fantastic. It feels… completely different from the taste a roadside restaurant should have.”Ā

Li Sinian glanced at the first few dishes, which were almost empty, and knew he wasn’t just flattering himself. He smiled slightly. “Thank you. I thought it was quite tiring to make so many dishes, but with your compliment, it doesn’t feel that tiring anymore.”Ā

The person in the black guard uniform started laughing again.Ā

Li Sinian propped himself up straight in his chair. “Have you finished eating? Would you like the remaining dishes packed?”Ā

“Yes.” The person in the black guard uniform replied straightforwardly, without putting on any airs of a wealthy person. He readily accepted Li Sinian’s request to pack all the remaining dishes.Ā

However, what was a bit annoying was that he said, “Boss, please pack them for me.”Ā

Li Sinian agreed with a “Sure.”Ā

After packing the remaining dishes one by one, the person in the black guard uniform finally stood up from his seat.Ā

He took the two large bags of takeaway containers from Li Sinian and left with a simple “I’ll come back to eat next time.”Ā

Li Sinian tidied up the table, checked the payment records, and found that the person in the black guard uniform had given an extra 500 yuan. 500 yuan was not a small amount for a small restaurant, so he hurriedly went out to return the extra money. However, the area outside the restaurant was empty, and there was not even a soul, let alone the person.Ā

Li Sinian had no choice but to give up.

On the first day of opening, even though he only had one customer, Li Sinian felt exhausted after preparing fifty dishes. So, after tidying up the dining tables, he decisively chose to close and head home.Ā

Though not far from Mulin Village, Li Sinian, having prepared fifty dishes, still felt very tired walking back home.Ā

After taking a shower and lying down on the bed, he dozed off, thinking since there wasn’t much going on, why not take a day off tomorrow? Well, rest was the most important thing.

As Li Sinian slept, in a high-end villa in the center of Suzhou, a young man in black attire pushed open the door. Changing shoes at the entrance, switching on the lights, the once gloomy house now seemed to have a faint sign of life.

The villa was spacious, totaling five hundred square meters on two floors, yet it appeared to be inhabited by only the young man in black, without even a servant.

Although it should have been a lonely and desolate scene, the young man in black seemed to be in a good mood, evidently accustomed to such solitary living. Or perhaps it should be said that he enjoyed living this way.

The young man in black, clad in dark attire, carried two bags filled with takeout containers into the kitchen. Patiently, he placed the packed dishes into the refrigerator, handling them as if they were precious treasures rather than leftovers.

As the refrigerator filled up and the takeout containers were stowed away, he folded the plastic bags, washed his hands, removed his upper garment, and headed toward the bathroom.

Unfortunately, just halfway there, the irritating sound of his phone ringing interrupted. Annoyed, he clicked his tongue, walked to the couch to pick up the phone, and upon seeing the displayed contact, he couldn’t help but roll his eyes and promptly hung up.

But the phone rang again, he hung up, it rang again, he hung up once more. This back-and-forth happened four times until the young man finally couldn’t resist and answered the call with an expectedly displeased tone, “What? Are you summoning spirits?”

The person on the other end of the line, unperturbed by the young man’s attitude, instead, sounded jovial, “Rongxuan, still awake, aren’t you? Busy or not, want to grab a drink with your brother?”

The caller was one of Jiang Rongxuan’s friends named Ma Chi, a self-made man who departed from his family’s wealth to pursue his own ambitions. Among the heirs of affluent families, he stood out as someone who repeatedly failed in business ventures despite his dreams.

Jiang Rongxuan lazily replied, “If you have something, just say it.”

Ma Chi chuckled, “Are you available now? Can I crash at your place for a couple of days?”

Jiang Rongxuan chuckled softly, “Kicked out by your dad again? Is it because of another investment failure?”

Ma Chi sighed, “You bet, how unlucky can I be? This has happened so many times, sigh!”

Jiang Rongxuan didn’t immediately respond. After being prompted a couple of times, he reluctantly agreed, “Alright, I can accommodate you for two days, but I’m in Suzhou right now… you should know that. If you really want to come over, just do it.”

“If you’re booking a flight from HaiCheng now, I suggest you aim for an arrival tomorrow morning. If you come in the early hours, nobody will open the door for you.”

“Thanks for taking me in, brother Jiang!” Ma Chi said, “No need to bother, I’m outside your neighborhood right now. Just tell the security guard to let me in!”

Jiang Rongxuan furrowed his brows lightly, glanced at his phone, then put it back to his ear, coldly chuckled, “You’re pretty quick. You’ve had this plan to come over to my place for a while, huh?”

Ma Chi laughed mischievously, “Of course, I know brother Jiang, you’re a good person, and you’re in Suzhou, far from HaiCheng. Staying at your place is safe.”

Unwilling to listen further, Jiang Rongxuan responded with an “Hmm” twice and hung up the phone directly. After informing the security guard, he went to take a shower.

Once he finished showering, the doorbell rang simultaneously, and Ma Chi appeared, pulling his luggage along.

Jiang Rongxuan, just having finished his shower, wore only loose sportswear without an upper garment. Water droplets from his hair trickled down his body, accentuating his toned abs, incredibly alluring.

Ma Chi looked at him, smacking his lips, “Tsk tsk tsk, little brother Jiang just gives me a shock as soon as he opens the door. Who can resist this physique?”

Jiang Rongxuan blocked the doorway, gazing at him with a half-smile, “If you don’t want toĀ  come in, go stay in a hotel.”

Saying this, he seemed about to close the door.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait!” Ma Chi hurriedly propped the door open, dropping his luggage to cover his mouth, “I talk too much. If you, the big shot, don’t take me in, I’ll starve to death on the street.”

Jiang Rongxuan released the door, lazily walked back into the living room, and the person behind him followed.

Ma Chi carelessly dumped his luggage in a corner and then made a beeline for the kitchen, “Let me see what’s good to eat in Little Jiang Ge’s fridge. I’m about to starve… Oh! It’s so full!”

Ma Chi was about to randomly take out a container to heat it when suddenly a hand reached out and slammed the refrigerator door shut.

Turning around, he saw Jiang Rongxuan, his face stern, “Order takeout if you’re hungry. You can’t eat that.”

“Huh?” Ma Chi was surprised, “Is this some treasure that you won’t let people touch?”

Although he grumbled, the things in the fridge belonged to Jiang Rongxuan, so he didn’t fuss and insisted on eating. He was ready to go out and order takeout.

Just as Ma Chi was about to leave the kitchen, the man next to him seemed to have had an idea. He suddenly curved his lips into a smile, grabbing Ma Chi and opening the refrigerator, “Forget it, eat what’s in the fridge. Eat as much as you can. It’d be best if you finish it all.”

Ma Chi looked at him, then at the fridge, with an expression that seemed to say, “Are you kidding me? Eat all of this?”

Jiang Rongxuan casually handed him a few containers, “I said, try to eat most of it.”

Ma Chi, holding the containers, grumbled, “What’s with you? Letting me eat, then not letting me eat.”

Ignoring him, Jiang Rongxuan sat back on the couch in a very good mood, seeing Ma Chi fiddling with the microwave, and reminding him, “Eat more.”

Eat more, it’d be great if you could finish it all. Out with the old, in with the new.
