Luo Songran avoided it for a few days and decided to go home to calm down at night. When he got home, he smelled the familiar scent of stir-fried dishes and knew it was his dad cooking. His stomach happened to be empty; lately, he had been getting hungry very quickly. He quickly took off his shoes and went to the kitchen.
As Luo Songran walked to the kitchen, he saw his dad, Luo Panzhi, wearing an apron and stir-frying vegetables. He didn’t enter but lingered at the kitchen door, “Dad, what are you cooking?”
“Since you’re back, Dad specially made curry stewed beef brisket for you.” Papa handed the already stewed curry beef brisket in the casserole to Luo Songran to smell.
It was fine not to get too close, but as Luo Songran got closer, he smelled the strong curry scent. Suddenly, a wave of nausea surged up in his stomach, his face turned pale, and he turned and ran to the bathroom.
“Papa…?”
Just as Luo Panzhi was coming downstairs, he saw his son rushing to the bathroom in a hurry. He looked at his husband, “What’s wrong with RanRan?”
Papa looked puzzled, “I don’t know, but it seems like he wants to throw up.”
“Upset stomach?” Papa walked to the bathroom and saw Luo Songran leaning over the toilet, dry heaving. “RanRan, did you eat something unclean outside?”
He walked over and gently patted Luo Songran’s back. Luo Songran found this dry heaving particularly uncomfortable. Coupled with his psychological aversion, his stomach tightened severely, and he ended up throwing up everything he had eaten today.
Feeling miserable, he straightened up and pressed the flush button. He went to the sink to rinse his mouth.
Papa hurried to get warm water and stomach medicine. Seeing his son’s suddenly ugly face, he felt worried, “Should Dad call the doctor?”
Luo Songran’s hand, wet from washing his face, suddenly stopped. Despite his face being wet, he reached out and grabbed his dad, “No, I don’t want to see a doctor.” Perhaps realizing his reaction was too extreme, he smiled, “I probably just ate too much greasy food today, had fried chicken barbecue at noon. I’ll be fine with some medicine.”
Saying that, he took the stomach medicine from his dad’s hand and swallowed it with warm water.
“Eat less fried chicken barbecue and such, it’s unhealthy and heats up the body.” Papa heard that his son always ate like this at school but saw that his face was getting chubby, so he reached out and pinched his son’s face, white and tender, “No wonder you’ve gained weight.”
Luo Songran was speechless. Enough, don’t say anymore, or he would cry.
During dinner, Dad noticed that his son didn’t touch his favorite curry beef brisket and was eating the least favorite vegetables unusually. Perhaps thinking that his son might still be uncomfortable after vomiting just now, he called out to his wife, “Baby.”
“Hmm?”
“Hmm?”
Dad paused with his chopsticks, looking at the father and son in front of him answering simultaneously, mainly looking at his son’s subtle expression.
Luo Songran was speechless. Damn, this terrible habit of calling, he quickly tried to salvage the situation and said deliberately, “How come I’m not your baby anymore? I want to respond.”
Ah, why are these two husbands still so sweet at this age!!! Do they have to call each other baby?!
Papa chuckled softly, feeling helpless and indulgent towards his son, “Alright, you’re also my baby.”
“No, not alright.” Dad on the other side disagreed, looking at his son seriously, “Dad has always told you since you were young, Dad’s baby is not you, Dad’s baby is your papa.”
Luo Songran’s eyes were resentful, “I want to…” As he said that, he hugged his papa next to him, “I want to sleep with Papa tonight.”
Now Dad disagreed, “You, this guy, you just came back home and cling to your papa. I made a table of dishes for you, and if you don’t eat, that’s fine, but you don’t even say thank you to Dad.”
“Thank you, Dad, Dad is great, Dad is hardworking.” Luo Songran skillfully replied.
Dad was speechless. Seriously, don’t come back, he doesn’t want this son anymore. He sneered, “If you don’t finish this pot of curry beef brisket, don’t expect to get off the table.”
Luo Songran was speechless. He felt like throwing up again.
At night, before he could even bring up the idea of sleeping with his papa, he saw his dad hurriedly bringing his papa back to their room, as if he was afraid he’d snatch him away.
He walked back to his room on the third floor. As he passed by the children’s room, he involuntarily stopped.
This children’s room was a pink princess room, prepared by his papa before he was born. It was filled with princess decorations, even the wardrobe contained countless princess dresses of various ages, still with their tags intact, never used.
When he was little, his papa used to innocently dress him up in little skirts, but later on, he realized it was deliberate on his part. He pushed the door open and walked in, greeted by the princess bed. He had slept in it for a couple of days before but protested afterward because he claimed he was a boy and didn’t like pink.
The children’s room was cleaned daily by a maid, so clean that it seemed like a real child lived there. He walked into the walk-in closet. The sliding door of the closet was made of transparent glass, allowing a view of the row of dresses ranging from those for babies to around six years old, too many to count.
His papa still couldn’t bear to get rid of this room, even unwilling to give away the dresses inside, despite having two daughters already. It must be because it was prepared with so much anticipation. How could one not be reluctant when there was no anticipation or preparation?
He looked at the closet absentmindedly. His phone in his pocket vibrated again. At this hour, he knew who it was without thinking, but he really didn’t want to answer. Just hearing Duan Yizhou’s voice made him irritated, very irritated. He had been unable to sleep for two nights already. Otherwise…
Should he take a test?
In the cubicle of the toilet, Luo Songran stared blankly at the pregnancy test in his hand. This was the result of his insomnia and anxiety for the past few nights, the worst possible outcome. Two bars, he was indeed pregnant.
He got up very early today, before his dads were even awake, and went to a pharmacy far away to buy this thing, afraid of being discovered. He even wore full armor, with a coat, mask, and hat, making the pharmacy staff wonder if he had been injured and asked if he needed to call the police.
After returning to school, he didn’t return to the dormitory but went to the school’s public restroom. It was just past seven, and there would definitely be no one here, so it would be a little safer.
Luo Songran entered the cubicle and quickly took out the pregnancy test from his pocket. At first, he didn’t understand how to use it and had to read the instructions carefully before he could use it. He solemnly put on disposable gloves, as if performing surgery, and followed the steps one by one, aiming the cute little device at the urine hole on the side of the pregnancy test.
After collecting the urine, he quickly flipped the pregnancy test upside down and stared at the observation window, holding his head low, staring fixedly at the position of the observation window until he saw the purple liquid crawling across it, his heartbeat suddenly accelerating.
Thump, thump, thump…
His hand holding the pregnancy test began to cool. If he was pregnant, he would see the result in one minute. This one minute became particularly torturous; it all depended on this one minute.
Please, no, please. The more afraid you are, the more it comes.
One minute later, Luo Songran saw two lines, one located at “T” and the other at “C”.
He was pregnant. He sat on the toilet in silence for almost five minutes. During these five minutes, his mind was blank, unable to think of anything. When he finally recovered a bit, only one thought popped into his mind: It’s over. The raincoat that night was indeed torn.
He knew he had always been careless and irresponsible, but could a child be conceived in such a careless and irresponsible situation? No anticipation, no preparation.
That night, they were using it. It tore later, and then what? How was it dealt with? He couldn’t remember anymore. Later, it seemed like he was addicted to Duan Yizhou, and on weekends, he would initiate it once or twice, but those times were absolutely sober, and he was definitely using it.
It could only have been that night.
Luo Songran’s hand holding the pregnancy test began to tremble. He stared expressionlessly at the two lines, unable to resist cursing a few times silently, then angrily wrapped it up with several tissues and threw it into the nearby trash can, immediately took out his phone and called Duan Yizhou.
It had been three days since he ignored Duan Yizhou’s calls. He thought the call wouldn’t go through so quickly, but to his surprise, it was answered soon, although there was a moment of hesitation before speaking, “Baby?”
Luo Songran listened to the familiar and still so gentle ‘baby’ coming through the phone, suddenly gripped the phone tightly, and said coldly and decisively, “Duan Yizhou, I don’t want you anymore. Let’s break up.”
He thought, let it end. This was beyond his expectations and completely different from his previous relationship pattern. It has to end before it gets completely out of hand.
Duan Yizhou was preparing for his class. He was going to give a lecture at Yan University as a guest lecturer, also thinking about giving Luo Songran a surprise. But before he could send the surprise, he heard such news, and he froze.
Luo Songran wanted to break up with him? He had been wondering why Luo Songran suddenly became moody these past few days. And now, he wanted to break up? Why? Duan Yizhou had never been so panicked. He grabbed the car keys nearby and walked out quickly. “Where are you? I’m coming back to China, I’ll find you right away.”
How could they break up? Clearly, they loved each other so much. It must be the little guy throwing a tantrum.
“I’m pregnant.”
Duan Yizhou stopped at the entrance, his steps faltering, staring at the door. For a moment, his mind went blank. “…What?”
“What use is an alpha who can’t even use a condom correctly? I don’t want you anymore. Let’s break up.”
As soon as the words fell, the call was immediately hung up. Duan Yizhou hurriedly called back but found that he was blocked. Several calls were met with the message ‘The number you dialed is turned off. Please, try again later.’
His fingertips hovered over the number with the label ‘Baby’. Luo Songran was pregnant? …He made Luo Songran pregnant?
In the entrance, the man who had always been calm and composed suddenly understood what it meant to be at a loss, what it meant to be confused and distraught. Duan Yizhou looked at the time. There was only half an hour left before his class. He still had time, so he took out his tablet and opened the chip locator. He saw a blinking red dot on the screen, located at Yan University. He narrowed down the area.
Luo Songran’s specific location was in the restroom on the second floor of Building A of the teaching building, and the stairs he was going to teach at were on the second floor of Building A as well.
Duan Yizhou took a deep breath to calm himself. He couldn’t panic. If he panicked, how would he comfort Luo Songran? These past few days of abnormal behavior suddenly made sense.
Luo Songran was afraid. Definitely afraid.
Luo Songran stood up from the toilet, suddenly feeling dizzy. He quickly grabbed the wall beside him and stood still for a moment. He found that standing was not an option, so he had to sit heavily back on the toilet, leaning against the tank, closing his eyes to alleviate the overwhelming weakness.
Right, he hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. He didn’t know how long he had rested. He took out a piece of candy from his pocket, his hands trembling as he quickly stuffed it into his mouth. The sweetness spread in his mouth, slightly alleviating his discomfort. But as he ate, he felt a bit nauseous. The strong nausea made him stand up suddenly and open the toilet lid to vomit.
After vomiting, he trembled as he pushed open the restroom door and walked to the sink.
Luo Songran lifted his head and saw his pale face in the mirror, along with the dark circles under his eyes. The irritation made his heart race. He cursed Duan Yizhou silently and turned on the faucet, splashing cold water on his face to wake himself up a bit.
“…Annoying.” No, he couldn’t keep this child. If his papa found out, he would be done for. If his dad knew, he might break his legs. He had to quietly get rid of the child at the hospital, without anyone knowing. It would be good for everyone.
He endured the discomfort of nausea and returned to the classroom, intending to find a seat at the back and take a nap during class. But as soon as he entered the classroom, he saw the person he wanted to punch the most.
On the podium, wearing a grayish-white casual shirt, was Duan Yizhou. The other father of this innocent little thing.
He expressionlessly threw the book on the desk. With a loud ‘smack’, the sound of the book hitting the table made the students in the classroom and those who were entering the classroom pause for a moment. When they saw who it was, no one dared to speak. Who would dare to provoke this young master?
Duan Yizhou adjusted his glasses and when he looked up, he met Luo Songran’s gaze filled with disgust. He saw that Luo Songran’s complexion wasn’t too good, with a slight furrow between his eyebrows. Was he feeling unwell?
Right, after that time, they had been together for over a month. If he was pregnant, he might experience early pregnancy symptoms, such as morning sickness.
The class monitor handed the attendance register to Duan Yizhou. “Professor Duan, this is our attendance register.” Then he whispered, “Sorry, Professor Duan, Luo Songran has a bad temper, it’s not directed at you.”
Duan Yizhou didn’t say anything when he heard the class monitor’s words. His gaze still fell on Luo Songran, who had already laid down to sleep. He smiled gently and said, “Class is about to start. If you have any grievances, talk to me after class, okay?”
The class monitor was really confused. Grievances? Why does that sound so weird?
