Chapter 22: I Don’t Like You

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

“Hello, everyone, my name is Duan Yizhou, and I will be your temporary lecturer for the next two months.”

Secondary gender genetics was an elective course. Originally, everyone found this class very boring, but had to attend for the credits. However, today was different. A new professor arrived, still as eye-catching and gentle as ever. Now, just looking at his face could make this one and a half hours enjoyable.

A new teacher would inevitably receive questions from curious students, especially when they found out the person on the platform was Duan Yizhou. Who didn’t know Duan Yizhou? Even if they didn’t know what he looked like, they knew he was the inventor of the Super Memory Chip. The birth of this chip enabled the timely detection and effective control of many basic diseases and major illnesses, and significantly reduced the annual rate of missing children, all thanks to the positioning system of the Super Memory Chip.

In the minds of many, especially parents and the elderly, Duan Yizhou was simply their guardian angel.

“Professor Duan! We have a question for you!”

Duan Yizhou suddenly saw a classmate excitedly raising their hand to ask a question, instantly enlivening the quiet classroom. However, what caught his attention wasn’t the question but Luo Songran, who was suddenly startled from sleep at the back.

He saw Luo Songran lift his head, his sleepy eyes resentfully glaring at him, then he immediately lowered it again. Seeing this, Duan Yizhou smiled helplessly and said, “Please, go ahead with your question.”

The classmates below saw Professor Duan suddenly smile so indulgently and thought it was directed at the questioning student, so they cheered and applauded.

Such noise made Luo Songran, who was already feeling uncomfortable all over, feel even more irritated. He covered his ears with his arms and muttered quietly, “…So noisy.”

So annoying. He wished he hadn’t come to class.

“Professor Duan, how old are you this year?”

“Thirty-two.”

“Oh my, Professor Duan, you’re so young and have already invented two generations of Super Memory Chips. That’s amazing!”

“It’s just a hobby of mine.”

“Professor Duan, alphas like you must be very popular. Do you have an omega?”

“Professor Duan, what kind of omega do you like? You must like omegas who are very studious, right?”

“Professor Duan…”

Professor Duan! Professor Duan! Professor Duan!!! Luo Songran felt like he was surrounded by this name from head to toe. Already feeling irritable and repelled, he now felt even more agitated, wanting to escape from this place, wanting to explode. Just as he angrily raised his head to leave, a piece of clothing draped over him. The oversized suit jacket enveloped his upper body, including his head, and a faint woody scent wafted past his nose.

His head, which had already lifted from his arms, inexplicably buried itself back. This was the scent of Duan Yizhou’s clothes. What was this man doing? Wasn’t he supposed to be teaching? Teaching and then coming to cover him with his jacket?

“In this class, we will talk about sex pheromones. Fifty years ago, a great biomedical doctor brought the concept of sex pheromones to the world, making the existence of the beta population a powerful part of society. With the development of biomedical science, sex pheromones have increased the birth rate and introduced a new type of gender, Class A beta.” Duan Yizhou walked down from the platform, interacting with the students as if stepping up one step at a time.

The students thought Professor Duan was interacting with them, each one focusing intently on him. It wasn’t until they saw Duan Yizhou walk to the last row of the lecture hall and drape his suit jacket over the sleeping Luo Songran that the students’ gossip radars went off. Why did Professor Duan cover a student who dared to sleep openly in class with his jacket?! Could this be a new tactic of the teacher, to pamper and then attack?

After covering the little rascal with his jacket, Duan Yizhou walked back to the platform, flipping through the slides with his control pen. “Class A betas have a gene arrangement relatively close to that of alphas among the beta population, hence the name Class A beta. Class A betas are usually determined by the genes of parents who are both alphas, so they have strong overall abilities. Also, because they are not affected by pheromones, they tend to be more resolute and courageous than alphas and omegas.”

Luo Songran was speechless. Was he being praised or ridiculed?

“Professor Duan, do Class A betas have no downsides? I heard that Class A betas…”

“Shh, keep your voice down…”

Luo Songran immediately perked up his ears. What’s going on? He wasn’t even asleep yet, and they were whispering about him? What’s wrong with him, what was that thing about him?

“Of course, Class A betas have a relatively obvious problem, which is that they are weaker than both alphas and omegas as well as ordinary beta populations. They have pheromones on their bodies but cannot smell the pheromones of alphas and omegas. This ability allows them to receive the pheromones of alphas and omegas, but they cannot determine whether such pheromones are beneficial or harmful to them. Experiments have shown that the harm outweighs the benefits.” Duan Yizhou walked back to the platform, looking at the large screen. “In recent years, the analysis and data statistics of implantation of Super Memory Chips show that Class A betas are the least adaptable group to the chip. Does anyone know what it means when someone adapts to the chip slower?”

Luo Songran thought, What could that mean? Isn’t it obvious that it’s referring to him?

Duan Yizhou saw a student raise their hand and smiled, gesturing with his hand, “This student, please share your thoughts.”

The student who raised their hand stood up. “Class A betas have pheromones, which means that the metabolism of these pheromones in Class A betas is easily influenced by external factors, resulting in a slower metabolism. The main reason for this is often the presence of many omegas or alphas around them, who interfere with their pheromones.”

Luo Songran was speechless. Of course, he understood what pheromone interference meant. It meant that the omegas and alphas around him emitted trace amounts of pheromones toward him. But it didn’t bother him.

Duan Yizhou nodded with a smile. “That’s right, this student’s answer is very good. It seems like you paid close attention in Professor Yan’s class before. Research shows that the reason why Class A betas are least adaptable to the chip is due to the interference of pheromones from alphas and omegas around them. Normal interactions don’t have much impact, but if a Class A beta is surrounded by many who have interfered with their pheromones, the Super Memory Chip will reveal it.”

Luo Songran was speechless.

“This sounds like it’s talking about Luo Songran, doesn’t it?”

“…He’s surrounded by a lot of alphas and omegas.”

The murmurs and discussions below gradually became clearer, and Luo Songran naturally heard them clearly. He suddenly felt annoyed. Was this man seeking revenge openly? Wasn’t he the one feeling aggrieved now? So what if he didn’t answer calls for three days? So what if they broke up? Wasn’t it miserable enough for him now that he was pregnant? Just as his hand moved to pull the jacket off his shoulders—

“So, what does it mean when a Class A beta suddenly transitions from a dominant and cheerful state to weakness, silence, melancholy, and instability?”

Luo Songran grasped the corner of the suit jacket and pulled it down slightly, quietly lifting his head. His gaze crossed over the shoulders of the students in front of him and landed on Duan Yizhou at the lectern, then unexpectedly collided with Duan Yizhou’s gaze.

He immediately lowered his head. The fire in his heart surged again. What does it mean? It means he’s angry, wants to kill, wants to devour!!!

Duan Yizhou’s gaze remained on the sleeping Luo Songran. In that split second, he knew Luo Songran was peeking at him. He also admitted to himself that he had selfish motives at that moment. He gently smiled and said, “It means he’s uncomfortable, so let’s all be serious in class and let Luo Songran, who’s not feeling well, rest for a bit, okay?”

Some students didn’t understand, while others started speculating randomly. And in that moment, Luo Songran couldn’t help but shiver, feeling numb all over. The blatant favoritism from this man felt like an electric current surging up his spine, making half of his body go soft, and he didn’t know where to vent his anger.

It was that feeling of being out of control again. He felt like Duan Yizhou had control over him. Ever since they got together, the development of this relationship had been beyond his control.

After class, students gradually left the classroom, as they had to rush to their next class and didn’t have time to ask Duan Yizhou questions. The classroom soon emptied out, leaving only Duan Yizhou tidying up his books on the lectern and Luo Songran, who was sleeping under the jacket.

Duan Yizhou stayed for about five minutes, realizing that this classroom wasn’t for the next class. He then walked up the steps to the last row, gently pulled out a chair, and sat next to the sleeping Luo Songran. He rested his head on his arm, gazing at the lump covered by his jacket. Then, as if remembering something, he pulled his own jacket down a bit.

Underneath the suit jacket was the face he had longed for three whole days. Luo Songran, deeply asleep, was completely unaware.

The sunlight from the window was bright, spilling into the classroom. It softly illuminated the young man lying on the table, his head resting on his arm, his cheek slightly puffed from the pressure of his arm, faint red imprints on his milky white skin, long eyelashes resting on his eyelids, breathing steadily, his sleeping expression particularly adorable. He was truly fast asleep, so much so that saliva might drip out, but to Duan Yizhou, it was all endearing.

Duan Yizhou reached out and gently brushed the strands of hair from Luo Songran’s forehead. He frowned slightly at the blue tint under his eyelids. Was this little one who slept so soundly these days unable to sleep after finding out about the pregnancy? His gaze gradually moved downward, and at the thought of Luo Songran nurturing a life beneath his flat abdomen, his breath quickened slightly.

It was something he hadn’t even had time to think about in his thirty-two years.

A month ago, he officially left the research institute and took over the management of the group from his father. At that time, he only thought about how to manage the group. Then he learned that there was a Class A beta with an especially poor chip response, so he, who loved to challenge himself, decided to observe personally.

In this past month, he inexplicably got together with Luo Songran. He inexplicably fell in love with this occasionally obedient, occasionally mischievous little guy. They spent a sweet and crazy half-month together, sticking to each other every moment, whispering sweet words constantly. This was the ideal state of love; he was completely devoted, giving all his affection to this boy twelve years his junior.

Today, one month later, Luo Songran said he was pregnant. And he wanted to break up with him.

“Have you seen enough?” Luo Songran woke up to find Duan Yizhou staring at him absentmindedly. He hadn’t even noticed him opening his eyes. When he recovered, he sat up, throwing his jacket back to Duan Yizhou.

“Baby,” Duan Yizhou gently called out, taking his jacket.

“Don’t call me baby!” Luo Songran couldn’t help but snap at Duan Yizhou. The word annoyed him; he stood up to leave.

Duan Yizhou quickly grabbed Luo Songran’s wrist. “RanRan, this is mainly my fault. I will take responsibility.”

Luo Songran tried to free himself from Duan Yizhou’s grip, but found himself unable to. His wrist was held tightly, causing him to frown. “Ouch, you’re hurting me.”

The sound of pain made Duan Yizhou loosen his grip slightly, but he didn’t let go.  Seeing that he still didn’t release his hand, Luo Songran became irritated. “Let go.”

“No,” Duan Yizhou leaned against the table, sitting down slightly to avoid looming over Luo Songran, but he still held onto Luo Songran’s wrist and pulled him closer. “Baby, I haven’t seen you in a few days. Let me look at you.”

“Duan Yizhou, don’t you understand?” Luo Songran raised his hand to block Duan Yizhou from hugging him, looking at him coldly. “I said I want to break up with you.”

“Why? Because of the pregnancy?” Duan Yizhou’s eyes darkened, much more serious than usual.

“I don’t like you. I lied to you.”

Duan Yizhou’s attempt to embrace Luo Songran froze. His expression was stunned, his brows furrowed, the darkness in his eyes mixed with frustration. There was no tenderness left in his gaze behind the gold-rimmed glasses, only disbelief.

“…You don’t like me?”  His voice was low, tinged with uncertainty and a hint of tremor.

Luo Songran coldly stepped back, out of Duan Yizhou’s embrace. At this moment, he was no longer the kid who just wanted to cling to Duan Yizhou, but someone who wanted to withdraw in time to avoid losing control. He met Duan Yizhou’s incredulous gaze. The gentleness in his eyes from a few days ago now brought discomfort. His hand, hanging by his side, suddenly clenched, his Adam’s apple bobbed, taking a deep breath to compose himself, then smiled and said, “Mn, I was just messing with you.”

He doesn’t deserve DY. He is better suited to the type he was with earlier in the novel. There are no excuses for his cruelty, at all.
Thank you both for the chapter.

People in the comments blaming LS, do y’all know what it’s like waking up one day to find yourself pregnant out of wedlock and at such a young age too?
Y’all sympathize with DY and that’s perfectly okay but what about LS? doesn’t he deserve sympathy too?
