Chapter 51: Wrong

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: Karai

That night, Luo Songran thought for a long time. He was unwilling in his heart to leave Duan Yizhou. Why did he have to say one thing and mean another? He began to feel a bit puzzled about what he was doing. After getting pregnant, he became increasingly inexplicable.

The next day, he returned to the university dormitory with his luggage.  As soon as the dormitory door opened, Luo Songran, who was brushing his teeth, was stunned. His roommate A looked at him and said in surprise, “Ran? Why did you suddenly move back?”

This commotion made Roommates B and C, who were changing clothes inside, curious and poked their heads out. Seeing Luo Songran coming back, they all expressed surprise.

Luo Songran walked back to the dormitory with his luggage. He looked around the mixed dormitory where he had lived for almost two years. It was only two months, but it felt familiar yet strange. In fact, he hadn’t done much at Duan Yizhou’s house, just the ordinary eating and sleeping. But he clearly felt uncomfortable the moment he stepped into the dormitory building.

“I plan to come back to live here.” Luo Songran pulled his luggage to his desk, took out a small stool from underneath the desk, and then sat on the stool to prepare to pack up.

At the moment he opened his luggage, he saw several lollipops and chocolates in the compartment bag. He was stunned.  Huh? When did he have lollipops and chocolates? Didn’t Duan Yizhou confiscate all these sweets at home?  He opened the compartment bag and found that the clothes and items he randomly stuffed in last night were neatly arranged. It was obvious that someone had tidied them up. Inside, all the daily clothes and necessities he needed were there, except for the pillow he stuffed in last night.

He felt irritated all of a sudden.

“Who packed your luggage for you? Did you pack it yourself?” Roommate B, sitting on a chair and tying his shoes, glanced at Luo Songran opposite him and expressed surprise at the neat arrangement inside the suitcase.

Luo Songran slammed the lid of the suitcase shut, casually kicked it under the desk, and stood up expressionlessly, walking towards the balcony. “I’m going to wash my face.”

The roommates glanced at each other, shrugged helplessly, and then hurriedly went to the bathroom when they suddenly heard vomiting sounds coming from there.

Originally, Luo Songran intended to wash his face and then go to class, but he felt nauseous and started vomiting as soon as he entered the bathroom. His stomach was uncomfortable, and he vomited out everything he ate last night. The intense vomiting made him feel stuffy in his chest, and his face turned ugly. He almost couldn’t even steady himself against the wall.

“What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

Luo Songran heard the concern of his roommate outside the bathroom. He calmed down, took a deep breath to relieve the continuous waves of nausea, and said, “…maybe I ate too much last night. You guys go to class first, I’ll be fine after I finish vomiting.”

It seemed like he hadn’t been so uncomfortable with morning sickness for a week or two. After all, his diet was strictly controlled by Duan Yizhou, and he hadn’t eaten and drunk excessively like last night for a while.

“Are you sure you can handle it alone? Do you want to go to the hospital?”

Luo Songran responded, “I’m fine, you guys go to class.” He slowly stood up, pressed the flush button, felt a slight pain in his waist, and bent over with his hands on the tank to relieve the soreness in his waist.  Before, because of the pain in his waist, Duan Yizhou would help him massage it every night, which could relieve the soreness in his waist. Now that he didn’t massage it last night, he felt uncomfortable.

…The first night without Duan Yizhou.

He took a break for a while before straightening up. By the time he walked out of the bathroom, his roommates had already gone to class. His professional class was at 9:45, so he had half an hour to lie down.  So he brushed his teeth, took off his shoes, climbed back into bed, and lay down for a while.

The moment he lay down, he began to feel uncomfortable. This bed had been slept on by him for a year and a half. Although it couldn’t compare to his bed at home, he was already used to it. But now, after only two months at Duan Yizhou’s place, he felt uncomfortable coming back.  Were these two months that extraordinary?

He hugged the blanket and subconsciously brought his nose close to the pillow. But there was no smell on the pillow, none of the smell he wanted. The light in his eyes gradually dimmed, and as he lowered his gaze, a sense of loss enveloped him.

The dormitory bed he had slept on for nearly two years was actually less comfortable than the one he had only slept on for two months.  How is that possible?

That night, he didn’t stay in the dormitory but went home.

Luo Songran pushed open the door of the house, changed his shoes at the entrance, and when he walked into the living room, he found his Dad and Papa sitting on the sofa reading books.  His Dad’s arm was around Papa’s back, as if encircling Papa. His other hand was flipping through the pages of a book. Papa was also habitually leaning against Dad’s arm, legs crossed, eyes lowered as he read.

There wasn’t much communication between them, but there was no trace of awkwardness either. Even in silence, their harmony was unparalleled. Although they were just reading, this scene felt incredibly affectionate. He stood still in amazement, not knowing what came to his mind. Suddenly, he felt very uncomfortable, a strong sense of loss swept over him, as if he had lost something, making his chest feel tight, and he felt like crying for no reason.

“Dad, Papa, I’m back.”

Dad and Papa turned their heads at the sound and saw their son had returned, looking somewhat surprised.

“Why are you back?” Papa closed his book, stood up, and walked toward Luo Songran. He looked his son up and down, then pinched his son’s rosy cheeks. “You’ve gained weight.”

Luo Songran, “?!?” He looked at Papa incredulously. “Really? I don’t think so.”

“You’ve got some chubby cheeks.” Papa gently rubbed his head. “A little weight gain is good. You were too thin. What have you been eating lately? Don’t tell me you’ve been eating junk food.”

“He’s too picky. Junk food doesn’t meet his standards,” Dad said, placing the two books he had just finished reading on the bookshelf nearby. Then he walked towards the kitchen. “I’ll start cooking. Tonight, I’ll make tomato shrimp soup that you love.”

Luo Songran’s gaze lingered on Dad’s back. He knew that the “love to eat” referred to by his dad wasn’t what he loved. “What about me?”

“You can eat with your Papa.” Dad entered the kitchen, his voice echoing in the spacious house. “I’m not your chef. I’m your Papa’s chef.”

Luo Songran was speechless. He didn’t come home to cause trouble, but now he felt thoroughly shut down, even provoked. Suddenly, he thought of someone inexplicably. Didn’t he have a “chef” too? But after thinking about it, he felt even sadder. He seemed to have lost his “chef,” even though the food wasn’t that great. Still, every meal was made with care, fulfilling his every request, even if it was unreasonable.

“RanRan, didn’t you say you were in a relationship? When are you going to bring your boyfriend home?”

When Luo Songran heard Papa mention his boyfriend, he suddenly felt tongue-tied. “Um… he’s shy.” Duan Yizhou definitely didn’t want him anymore, especially after agreeing to divorce him last night.

Sob…sob…sob…

“Is he shy or are you shy?” Dad poked his head out of the kitchen.

Luo Songran glared at his dad. “Luo Panzhi, can’t you just let your son be comfortable for a moment?”

Dad nodded with a smile. “Sure, isn’t a son’s existence meant to be teased?”

Luo Songran clenched his fist slowly.

Dad noticed his son’s fist and raised an eyebrow. “You can’t beat me.”

Luo Songran pretended to walk over, but Papa behind him stopped him. He gritted his teeth in anger. “Dad!! How did my papa fall for you?”

“That’s charm, something you wouldn’t understand.” Dad stood at the kitchen door, twirled the apron, put it on skillfully, and tied it behind. “To capture someone, you have to capture their stomach first. Your Papa fell for me because I’m a great cook. Right, darling?” He winked at his husband.

Papa sighed helplessly but with fondness.

Luo Songran became even more annoyed, sourness filling him. He retorted, “My boyfriend can cook too!” Even though the food he cooked was terrible.

“Oh?” Dad curiously peeked out. “How about inviting him over one day to exchange culinary skills?”

Luo Songran was speechless. Better not, he would lose miserably. He awkwardly turned away and said, “Let’s see. He’s quite busy.”

“Speaking of busy, I thought of Yizhou.” Dad’s voice came from the kitchen.

Luo Songran had intended to go upstairs, but his steps involuntarily stopped. He even walked to the kitchen door, holding onto it and looking at his Dad inside. “What about him?”

Why did Dad suddenly bring up Duan Yizhou?

Dad took out ingredients from the fridge, preparing methodically. “He came to me last month to learn cooking. He wanted to cook for his lover, but because his lover is picky, he couldn’t learn the dishes he liked from a chef. So he came to me. I was busy at the time and initially thought he was just being polite. But he was serious and came to me three or four times.”

Luo Songran was stunned. “Learn cooking from you?”

“Tomato beef brisket and shredded chicken.” Dad smiled. “Believe it or not, his lover’s taste is quite similar to yours.”

Luo Songran was speechless. During that time, Duan Yizhou often made tomato beef brisket and shredded chicken for him to taste. Was it because he learned from his Dad? But what did he do during that time?

Mostly, Luo Songran criticized him and even threw away the dishes Duan Yizhou had just made for no reason. He could clearly feel Duan Yizhou’s displeasure at the time, but instead of getting angry with him, Duan Yizhou silently tidied up the table and even asked if he wanted anything else to eat. He felt he had been awful during that time.

Did he give Duan Yizhou any motivation to persist in loving him? It was just one blow after another.

As soon as the words left his mouth, his head was rubbed by Papa behind him. Then Papa’s voice came, “RanRan, did you and your boyfriend have a fight?”

Luo Songran felt Papa’s big hand on his head, warm and comforting. For some reason, his nose felt sour, and he looked at Papa. “Papa, can I ask you a question?”

“What’s wrong? Go ahead.” Papa looked at his son’s face, which had filled out a bit more, and reached out to pinch it.

Luo Songran whispered, “It’s just… I have a friend. He’s married, but he seems to have done something wrong, and his husband is ignoring him.”

“What did he do wrong?”

“He’s always causing trouble for no reason, talking about divorce, thinking he’s right, and always getting angry with his husband.”

Dad and Papa were silent for a moment, then said in unison, “Serves him right.”

Luo Songran was speechless. Sob…sob…sob… he knew he was wrong.
