Chapter 95: Hardship

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

In the car, the atmosphere was oppressive.

Luo Songran, with a strong desire to survive, held onto the seat belt tightly. He glanced at Duan Yizhou’s hand on the steering wheel, the faint veins visible, and the cold metallic gleam of the watch peeking out from his cuff, all making him feel intimidated.

And with the man’s expressionless face, it was even more intimidating.

He dared not look anymore, leaning his head against the seat back, feeling unjust and innocent. They were supposed to be on the same side, planning to punish Yan Nanchen together. How did it change so suddenly, and now he was the one being punished? This was unacceptable.

They didn’t exchange a single word throughout the journey.

It wasn’t until the car slowly entered the garage, and all the lights in the garage illuminated, casting a soft glow on the entire wall of white marble, that Luo Songran sat still, maintaining a standoffish attitude.

Then he heard a click, the sound of unlocking the car, and then saw Duan Yizhou unbuckle his seatbelt and get out of the car. He quickly unbuckled his own seatbelt and opened the car door to run, but before he could take two steps, Duan Yizhou grabbed him and lifted him off the ground.

“You dare to run?” Duan Yizhou’s voice sounded darkly above his head. Luo Songran stubbornly turned his head away, not even hugging his neck, just crossing his arms.

“You’re so fierce, of course, I have to run.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Duan Yizhou loosened his grip on him, and Luo Songran felt like he was about to fall. He immediately hugged Duan Yizhou’s neck, only to meet Duan Yizhou’s indifferent gaze, realizing that he had been scared by this man.

He was immediately angry and wanted to scold him, but before he could say anything, Duan Yizhou spoke first, “Throw a tantrum once, I’ll punish you ten times. I keep my word.”

Luo Songran immediately lowered his head, “I’m sorry, I was wrong.”

Duan Yizhou glanced at the quick-to-admit-wrong guy, his eyes restraining his anger. He held him steadily and walked inside. “Luo Songran, am I too good to you? That’s why you keep challenging my bottom line over and over again. How many times have I told you about this? Why don’t you listen?”

This tone made Luo Songran’s heart sink. Oh no. He’s angry, he’s angry, he’s angry. Every time he thought Duan Yizhou was at his angriest, he would discover that Duan Yizhou had an even angrier side, and he kept uncovering it.

He used to joke that his cousin chased his wife to the crematorium, but now it seemed like he was the one being chased to the crematorium by his husband, and it was a huge power imbalance. He couldn’t even take care of himself, yet he worried about others. He really needed to assess his abilities in the future. After he got pregnant, he couldn’t fight, couldn’t run, and if he got too angry, he would have indigestion.

The more Luo Songran thought about it, the sadder he felt. He hugged Duan Yizhou’s neck and started crying, “I’m sorry, I know I was wrong. Now that I don’t even have my driver’s license, please don’t be angry anymore, please.”

“Every time you do something wrong, you cry. Can crying solve the problem?”

“I can only cry now. Do you want me to fight with you? I definitely won’t be able to fight you, so crying is the only thing I can do.”

The sound of his crying echoed in the vast mansion, startling the maid who was cleaning. She turned her head and saw Mr. Duan holding the young master walking in, completely unaware of what had happened, so she hurried forward. The maid knew how precious the young master was to Mr. Duan. Not to mention crying, even a minor injury would cause a fuss, “What’s wrong? Why is the young master crying so sadly? Is he feeling unwell somewhere?”

Duan Yizhou naturally couldn’t bear to see Luo Songran cry, but he also knew that this guy deliberately did it because he knew he couldn’t stand it. He told the maid, “It’s nothing. He was speeding and running red lights on the road just now, so I scolded him. You go and do your work first.”

Luo Songran saw the maid and immediately reached out to her for help, “Auntie, I’m hungry.”

As soon as he said that, Duan Yizhou carried him and walked towards the elevator, “How could you be hungry? I saw on the surveillance that you’ve been eating all along.”

“You have time to watch the surveillance but not to reply to my messages?!” Luo Songran ` seized the opportunity to find a loophole, “Then why didn’t you reply to my messages just now?”

“I was in a meeting with your cousin and the responsible person from the overseas cooperation company. I can use the computer, but it’s not very convenient to look at my phone.”

“That just means work is more important than me.”

“Don’t change the subject. Let’s talk about what you did first. Even if you’re not pregnant, is it okay to speed and run red lights in the city? You could lose all twelve points, baby.”

“What else can I do if I’ve already done wrong? Then you can hit me.” Duan Yizhou was speechless.

Indeed, he couldn’t expect this guy to obediently admit his mistakes. Whenever he did, there would surely be a bunch of reasons. Sometimes he really felt like spanking this guy’s bottom, but then he remembered he was pregnant.

Looks like he can only do this.

Carrying Luo Songran back to the bedroom, Duan Yizhou nudged the door shut with his elbow.

The sound of the door closing wasn’t loud, but it made Luo Songran’s heart skip a beat. He glanced at the bed. Surely, it couldn’t happen even in broad daylight, but then again, why not? If this was considered punishment, he might just be willing? Oh? If he pretended to be afraid and resistant, wouldn’t that make Duan Yizhou feel like this kind of punishment scared him?

But in reality, he was excited. It’s possible! He immediately buried his face in Duan Yizhou’s chest, feigning fear. “I know I was wrong, please don’t do this, I’m still pregnant.”

Duan Yizhou glanced down at the slightly exaggerated fear in this little rascal’s eyes. This wasn’t fear at all, it was clearly excitement. He didn’t know what this guy was thinking, but it seemed to be his happiest thing.

So naturally, how could he admit his mistake?

So he placed Luo Songran on the edge of the bed and walked to the French windows, drawing the inner curtains so that there was still ample light. Then he reached up to the collar and loosened his tie.

Luo Songran sat on the edge of the bed, watching the tall alpha casually loosen his tie, backlit by the light. The halo behind him seemed to outline his tall and sturdy figure, and the white shirt seemed translucent, vaguely revealing the muscular lines hidden beneath. The pair of gold-rimmed glasses on his nose now looked really like a refined scoundrel.

A charming scoundrel.

Completely unaware that his expression had softened and had been caught by Duan Yizhou.

Until he saw Duan Yizhou take the tie and walk towards him.

“Put out your hands,” Duan Yizhou said.

Luo Songran’s eyes brightened when he saw the tie. Was Duan Yizhou planning something thrilling in broad daylight? Well, he definitely could, Duan Yizhou seemed capable of anything.

He pretended to timidly stretch out his hands toward Duan Yizhou. “…Um, honey, don’t be so harsh. While punishment is punishment, you should consider that I’m still pregnant, and we shouldn’t scare the babies.”

Duan Yizhou raised an eyebrow, making a noncommittal sound. Without saying anything, he tied the tie around Luo Songran’s fair and slender wrists, not too tightly, as they would need to move later.

Seeing Duan Yizhou not tying the tie tightly, Luo Songran thought this man really had some tricks up his sleeve. He wanted to restrain him but also wanted him to break free. He was definitely trying to make him admit his mistake by playing hard to get and then admitting it.

Well, that was no problem, he was familiar with this apology process.

After tying the knot, he saw Duan Yizhou walk to the study on the opposite side. He was suddenly startled, wobbling his feet. “Aren’t you going to tie my feet?”

Duan Yizhou paused his steps, his expression somewhat subtle from Luo Songran’s perspective. Did this guy really think he was playing with him? He turned his head, smiling faintly as he looked at Luo Songran. “Aren’t you scared? Are you ready to make demands now?”

Luo Songran quickly lowered his head, placing his tied hands against his chest. “I’m so scared, so scared.”

Duan Yizhou, “…”

Really not scared of him.

It seemed if he wasn’t a little strict, this guy would always be like this. He had just scolded him not long ago, and now he was doing dangerous things again. It was fortunate that the babies in his belly were well-behaved and developing well. If they were being restless, the little rascals would suffer.

But now he would rather Luo Songran hum and fuss because of the babies. At least then he wouldn’t have the mood and opportunity to do bad things. Unlike now, where he would attend meetings with anxiety, afraid he would run out and speed and run red lights.

He was just too energetic. He needed something to do, or else he couldn’t even take care of himself and still wanted to meddle in other people’s affairs like a wife-chasing crematorium. But he also had to be measured; punishment should be as gentle as possible.

Seeing Duan Yizhou walk into the study, Luo Songran thought, could this guy be going to get some toys? As he thought about it, his smile became even more mischievous. Could it be that he had hidden some toys in the house!

One minute he was feeling triumphant, and the next he was sitting on Duan Yizhou’s lap, really crying.

In the study, Luo Songran sat on Duan Yizhou’s lap, crying as he translated the stack of documents in front of him. The thick documents needed to be translated into English, and his hands trembled as he typed on the keyboard. He trembled uncontrollably, feeling uncomfortable, and tensed his back.

“What’s wrong, can’t you translate?” Duan Yizhou covered Luo Songran’s hands on the keyboard, looking at the gibberish on the document caused by the trembling. “You made a mistake here. Looks like we’ll need to work overtime.”

Luo Songran was about to turn his head and curse, but then he was raised again by Duan Yizhou. He took a deep breath and clasped his hands on the keyboard, barely calming down the trembling. His eyes were red, tears welling up in the corners of his eyes. He slowly lowered his head, resting his head on the table, and sobbed, “I know I was wrong, don’t do this.”

It wasn’t because he couldn’t translate that he was trembling, it was because of the little ones. He couldn’t believe Duan Yizhou dared to treat him like this, it was really too much. Not only that, but he also had to translate these documents while enduring it. Who could do such a thing!

“Keep going, baby, I believe in you.” Duan Yizhou’s gaze fell on the exposed back of Luo Songran’s neck as he lowered his head. Betas didn’t have glands, but this part emitted a strong pheromone scent of an A-class beta, with a contradictory fragrance of citrus, rose, fresh, and yet cool. Beneath the loose sweatshirt, you could faintly see the tension in his shoulders, and he was sweating.

Another half an hour passed like this—

Duan Yizhou saw his little rascal crying and typing on the keyboard, sometimes crying and sometimes stubbornly typing. Maybe it wasn’t as convenient to type with the tie blocking him, and when the intensity increased, his back would tense up, and he would bury his face in his arms for a moment.

Finally, Luo Songran couldn’t bear it anymore and collapsed, raising his head and crying, “I can’t do it anymore. I won’t speed or run red lights again.” Then he turned his head to look at Duan Yizhou, tears swelling his eyes. “Honey, I’m sorry for always worrying you.”

Hearing “I’m sorry for always worrying you,” Duan Yizhou switched off.

Luo Songran collapsed into Duan Yizhou’s arms as if relieved, all strength drained from him. He weakly wrapped his arms around Duan Yizhou’s neck and sobbed softly, “It’s a little uncomfortable.”

“Is your stomach hurting?”

“No, it’s not.”

Duan Yizhou held the soft little rascal in his arms, looking down at him as tears reddened the corners of his eyes. He used his fingertips to gently wipe away the tears on his cheeks. “As long as you know I’ll worry, that’s enough. I’m so angry because you never consider me before doing dangerous things. Firefighters even write wills before dangerous missions, what about you?”

He untied the tie from his hand and checked his wrist. It wasn’t red.

“Then I won’t need to write a will…” Luo Songran buried his face in Duan Yizhou’s shoulder, muffled. “If you don’t like it, I won’t get involved in my cousin’s affairs.”

“I’m not angry because you want to help with this matter.”

“Got it, you’re angry because I never consider whether you’ll worry before doing dangerous things. I’ll definitely think it through before doing anything in the future.”

“Before doing? Will you still dare to do it?” Duan Yizhou made a gesture to pick up something nearby.

Luo Songran was so frightened he quickly shook his head, choking, “I won’t dare.”

Hearing him tremble with fear, Duan Yizhou’s purpose was naturally not to scare this guy. He put the thing away, “This time, remember it well, okay?”

“Okay.” Luo Songran obediently nodded.

Only then did Duan Yizhou pick him up. “Take a bath and then we’ll go home.”
