What was it like for two people spending their days together? Well, one of them was always on his phone and mysteriously muttering things, and the other clearly wanted to know what he was doing, yet pretended that he didn’t care.
Lu YunYang had a special occupation, and Guan Jin never asked about it. Sometimes, when Lu YunYang was on the phone, he would avoid Guan Jin, which wasn’t a big deal. He just didn’t want Guan Jin to hear those kinds of things; he had finally left those bloody days, and Lu YunYang hoped that he could have a simple and ordinary life forever. Moreover, it would be very troublesome if Guan Jin heard too much and wanted to know who the person that killed him was.
However, recently, it was different. When Lu YunYang picked up a call, his expression wasn’t quite right, and if he wasn’t sneakily doing things on his laptop, he was whispering into the phone. His demeanor clearly said one thing——the thing I’m avoiding is you.
Guan Jin couldn’t bring himself to question him openly; they were both men, and making a big fuss out of this would be unbecoming. However, with Lu YunYang being so obvious, if Guan Jin didn’t do anything about it, wouldn’t that be demeaning?
Just as Guan Jin was thinking about what he should do, Lu YunYang picked up a call. After some muffled words, he heard him shout, “If you don’t have time then find some time! If you don’t get it done soon, I’ll chop you up!” After hanging up, Lu YunYang began making dinner exuberantly.
After eating, Lu YunYang cleared the table and walked to the door to put on his shoes. “I have to go out to take care of some things. If you’re tired, you should sleep first.”
“What things?” Guan Jin unexpectedly asked.
Lu YunYang was taken aback. “Uh, just some trivial things regarding the Gods, and I need to deal with it.”
Guan Jin stood up and stretched. “Good thing I want to get some fresh air, I’ll go with you.”
“…Um…”
“What, is it so top secret that I can’t go? Never mind, then.” Guan Jin made to walk back.
“No, no!” Lu YunYang hastily pulled him back. “It’s just that I don’t want you to get involved in this mess.”
“I’m just going with you, I won’t get involved in anything. What, I can’t even spend some time with you?” Guan Jin winked, though he gagged inwardly.
Lu YunYang knew that Guan Jin wouldn’t be this courteous for no reason, but he was enraptured and couldn’t think that clearly.
As for the secret, it wasn’t like he was going to say anything, and he was just picking something up, so it wouldn’t be a problem.
After some twists and turns, they arrived at a relatively old street and entered a secluded cul de sac.
Lu YunYang led Guan Jin to the fourth floor of a building and knocked on the dark red door.
After a moment, there was a click, and the door opened.
“Hey, boss.” The man inside smiled.
Lu YunYang cursed inwardly.
The instant Guan Jin saw this person, he felt a little strange, but it was fleeting, so he didn’t think too much of it and followed Lu YunYang inside.
“How come it’s you?” Lu YunYang said, very displeased.
“Some things came up, so I came instead,” the tall and lean man said as he inspected Guan Jin closely.
“What are you looking at?! Is your boss’s wife for you to look at?!”
“…”
“This is Perses, my… right-hand man,” Lu YunYang introduced vaguely.
Perses was the Greek Titan god of destruction. Guan Jin looked at him in interest, wondering how much of a destructive force he had.
“You two can sit wherever, I’ll go get the thing you asked for.” Perses turned and went into a bedroom.
Guan Jin looked around and saw that the layout of this house was quite nice, and it seemed to have been designed by a woman, as it was filled with warm colors. Suddenly, his gaze landed on something, and he instantly felt like he had been struck by lightning.
It was a violin case made out of black leather, and the buckle was a little worn. Guan Jin walked over to it, and after a moment of hesitation, he put his hand on it and stroked the case.
Perses came back out and handed Lu YunYang, who was sitting restlessly, a small bag, saying teasingly, “Boss, don’t be nervous, men can only mature after going through this step.”
“True, and in the future, you’ll have to follow your boss’s steps in maturing as well.” Lu YunYang waved the object in his hand.
“Ah, I’ll pass.” Perses stepped back and noticed Guan Jin touching the violin case out of the corner of his eye. “Boss’s wife, if you like the violin, ask him to buy you a new one. It’s best if you don’t open this, or else it’ll frighten you.”
Only then did Lu YunYang notice the violin case. “Are you changing careers to become a musician?”
“I’m not that talented. Isn’t this the thing you asked me for a while ago? I happened to bring it along with me.”
Lu YunYang blinked. “What… did I ask for?”
“It’s the gun that the assassin I killed left behind. Look how refined he was, he even kept it in a violin case.” Perses grinned. “It’s a shame I can’t get used to it, it’s really very nice.”
Lu YunYang cursed inwardly again.
Guan Jin, whose back was facing them, suddenly laughed lightly and slowly turned around, asking very softly, “Dear, who do you want to take out first?” He waved the black Walther WA 2000 around.
“Boss’s wife, calm down a little, this isn’t a toy, and it’s not suited for shooting from a close range,” Perses urged ignorantly.
You idiot, you’re the one he wants to kill! Lu YunYang indignantly kicked Perses. “Read the room!” Then, before Perses could react, Lu YunYang ushered him out of the room and shut the door firmly.
When he turned back around, Lu YunYang calmly faced the muzzle of Guan Jin’s gun. “Darling, my lung still hasn’t completely recovered, why don’t we put the gun down and talk?”
Guan Jin narrowed his eyes. “Hmph, stop acting all pitiful, I can help you add another hole in there.”
“You’ve already gotten your anger out, and I got the gun back for you. Killing him won’t help.”
Guan Jin put the gun down and scoffed, “Don’t think that chasing him out is going to fix things. As long as I know what he looks like, there’s nowhere in this world for him to hide.”
Meeting the person who had killed him definitely wouldn’t put Guan Jin in a good mood. Lu YunYang could foresee that the upcoming days would be very difficult, and he racked his brain for a way to divert Guan Jin’s attention.
After a while of thinking, he looked at the bag in his hand…
Guan Jin was hugging his precious gun and cleaning it carefully, and the enthusiasm in his eyes made Lu YunYang extremely jealous.
“Little Jin,” Lu YunYang asked sourly, “Between me and your gun, who’s more important?”
“My gun.” There was no hesitation at all.
…I’m so hurt.
“I can take care of you and feed you well, you can bully me however you want and I won’t complain, and I can even warm your bed. I’m a lot better than your gun.”
Guan Jin looked at him in disdain. “People are the most unreliable, betraying each other all the time. Guns are different, since they listen to whoever’s holding them.”
“Then listen to my next promise.”
“I’ve heard too many of your promises.”
“The promise of a lifetime.” Lu YunYang half-knelt down next to the sofa and placed a small box in Guan Jin’s hands.
Guan Jin was taken aback, and he was completely perplexed. “What is this?!” He opened the box’s lid.
…What——did this mean… The pair of shiny silver rings in the box were blinding!
Lu YunYang took out one of them and took Guan Jin’s hand in his own, placing the ring onto his ring finger. Then, he guided Guan Jin’s hand to slide the other one onto his own hand.
“This way, I’m yours forever.”
“…” Guan Jin had already completely forgotten about his gun and his enemy, and only nonsensical questions flew around in his brain: Is this a ring? A wedding ring? Two men wearing rings seems very hypocritical. It’s so tight, what if I can’t take it off? …And so on.
As Guan Jin was still dazed, Lu YunYang resolutely picked up the violin case and pulled Guan Jin with him to rush home, completely ignoring a certain person who was sitting next to the flowerbed and smoking a cigarette gloomily.
*****
“Little Jin, are you planning on maintaining this posture forever?” When they got home, Lu YunYang couldn’t help but ask Guan Jin this, as he was still staring at his finger with the ring on it.
“What do you mean?”
“This… doesn’t look very cultured…”
Guan Jin stuck out his finger. “This represents my deep contempt.”
“…”
“So this is what you’ve been doing secretly these past few days?” Guan Jin finally understood.
“Originally, I had a very romantic proposal planned, but alas.” Lu YunYang frowned regretfully. Actually, he was ecstatic inside; if he hadn’t put the rings on while Guan Jin was still in shock, it probably wouldn’t have been this easy.
As Guan Jin looked at the ring on his finger again, he suddenly regretted not rejecting him…
“Babe, let’s go into the bedroom?”
“For what?”
“For what? Of course we have to consummate the proposal.”
“Bastard, let go of me! Careful I shoot you with my gun!”
“In the future, don’t play with such dangerous things.”
“You——mm——let go! Mn… Ah… I want to be on top today!”
“It’s very tiring on top.”
“On the bottom, I’ve nearly been flattened by you!”
“Then why don’t we try a different position? Riding or standing?”
“Do you want to die?! Mn…”
*****
In the morning, Lu YunYang woke up to see Guan Jin still staring at his finger.
“…Little Jin, aren’t you tired?”
“I keep feeling like this finger feels uncomfortable, as if the ring is placed weirdly.” Guan Jin frowned.
Lu YunYang held his hand in his own. “You still have a lifetime to get used to it.”
“…Can I have a refund? A lifetime is too long.”
“I feel that a lifetime is too short. Of course, last night was also short, and it’s still early. Wife, let’s do it again?”
“Get lost!”
“We’ll get lost together.”
…and so they lived happily ever after (I hope!)
Pleased that Guan Jin doesn’t seem vengeance ridden; at the end of the day, Perses is an assassin, just like he was. He also gets to spend the rest of his life ensuring Lu YunYang makes up for it all! 😉😁
