Chapter 32: The Oldest Middle-Aged Disease

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Zhou Yan and Luo Futu’s break-in alerted the house, and more similarly-dressed attendants and servants soon poured out of the inner courtyard, putting Zhou Yan on alert with his gun off his back.

Zhou Yan did not know Gabriel, and did not know whether he was a coward who simply liked to make a name for himself, or a headstrong and facetious man. If the former, they may not even see Gabriel’s face, and then they would just break in, take over his area and threaten him to hand over the iron ore plant. If it was the latter, then they also had a card to negotiate.

Such a person must not want to lose face in front of his men, and the Lurian incident was his handle.

Seeing the blond young man striding out from the group, Zhou Yan thought silently, ‘It seems he’s the latter.’

“Who dares to trespass on my turf?” The visitor raised his chin slightly, lazily swept his gaze past Zhou Yan and Luo Futu, and said to himself, “A loser who dares not meet people with his true face, a useless beta…. Hmph, how dare you? How do you plan to die?”

Zhou Yan swore that after Gabriel said this, he heard a kaboom-kaboom sound as if Luo Futu was wiggling his fingers. Zhou Yan even thought of his inner workings, which were, ‘you’re the one who wants to prove how you’re going to die sooner,’ and, ‘you’re going to die soon,’ and so on.…

However, he couldn’t tell what kind of “face” Gabriel had, so he could only test it first.

Zhou Yan looked at him expressionlessly. “This is a misunderstanding, we do not mean to offend, but actually came to report a message. I think there is no one but you, the Marshal who killed the beast with his own power, that can do it.”

Luo Futu heard this and glanced at Zhou Yan through the veil. Although his face was covered by a large part of the veil, Zhou Yan still saw his dissatisfaction that this situation should be directly turned around, but he was actually patronizing this person.

Zhou Yan ignored him. Although his plan also had the option of direct action, that option was not the best. Now Luo Futu not only had not fully recovered his spiritual power, but his body was still injured, so to get into conflict with this person was not beneficial to anyone.

“Oh?” Gabriel seemed happy to hear Zhou Yan’s words and raised his hand to wave casually, letting the people surrounding Zhou Yan back away as he walked up to him. “So that’s how it is. If there is such a thing, why didn’t you tell us earlier? Isn’t it easy to cause misunderstandings if you have to break in?”

Zhou Yan saw his reaction and was sure of a few things in his heart. It seems that this guy was really the type of guy who liked to be a hero. Since he was a rich second-generation who had huge amounts of money, and was usually too idle, he was always wanting to do something big to prove himself, and it was not that there were no such people in the world. He glanced at the man watching the door. “We made our intentions clear from the start, and although the Marshal is a reasonable man, unfortunately not all of his men are. There was really no choice but to break in.”

Gabriel was not a fool. Zhou Yan said so implicitly, and he also understood his meaning. He glared at the man who was looked at by Zhou Yan, and the latter hurriedly lowered his head, not daring to look at Gabriel’s eyes. Gabriel then turned his head back and lazily raised one eyebrow as he looked at Zhou Yan. “Our family rules are strict and our underlings are very responsible, so it is inevitable that misunderstandings arise. However, whether or not you have brought valid information, as you say, we have to listen to it before we can judge. If you bother me with some trivial matters again, don’t blame me for being ungracious.”

Gabriel’s performance surprised Zhou Yan a little— to be fair, this guy was actually a good leader. He was now on his own side. Although this was the fault of the butler, he did not say something excessive in front of them. In front of the two outsiders, he lightly took the responsibility of this matter on himself.

The momentum also went in a downward spiral.

Gabriel’s approach just now was really on a higher level. If he were to directly lecture the disciples that were working for him in front of Zhou Yan and other people, it would certainly make the disciples lose face. Afterwards, those who worked for him in the future would be less dedicated. In Gabriel’s eyes, Zhou Yan and Luo Futu were nothing but just outsiders. How could he blame his own people because of two outsiders?

A leader who would not protect his own men was certainly not a good leader.

Despite the confrontation between the two sides, Zhou Yan surprisingly admired him a little bit. He was responsible and would take action. Although he was full of foppishness— and his character was also not good— this person was not completely without merit.

Listening to his meaning, before there seemed to be some “chicken feather” small things to bother him with? This small factory owner’s fetish was not known to everyone? Everyone knew that he liked to be a hero, so people kept asking him to solve problems?

Zhou Yan subconsciously glanced at Luo Futu beside him, who apparently also sensed something strange, and the anger that made him gnash his teeth and want to kill this fraudulent bastard immediately disappeared a bit.

“The news is naturally true, but can not be said in front of so many people. I wonder if it is convenient for the Marshal to move.”

Gabriel agreed very quickly. “Okay, follow me to the back room, you all stand down.”

At this moment, the one who clashed with Zhou Yan at the beginning objected, “Marshal, you can’t see them alone. There are two of them and only one of you, so we don’t have the advantage in numbers. We don’t know whether these two people are sincere in reporting the news, or simply want to disadvantage you.”

Gabriel glanced at him. “Nosy. Am I afraid of them?” He waved his hand to Zhou Yan and Luo Futu. “Okay, you guys come with me. The rest of you, stand down. No one is allowed to come in without my order.”

Zhou Yan and Luo Futu looked at each other, and the latter raised an eyebrow at him and said softly, “Interesting.”

Zhou Yan expressionlessly lowered his eyes— in fact, he should have listened to the advice of the gatekeeper. He had planned from the beginning to kidnap Gabriel if this negotiation failed, not expecting that Gabriel did not have the slightest sense of defense. Rather, he did not even think that he would turn against him, and he just followed him with such a bold face.

Faced with such a frank and heartless rich boy, it seems that his side was too calculating. Zhou Yan was suddenly embarrassed to use those schemes against him.

The two sides came to the back room together. Gabriel also had refreshments prepared and invited them both to sit down, looking like he was really going to treat them with courtesy. However, he seemed to be quite dissatisfied with the fact that Luo Futu still covered his face with a veil, and stared at him for half a day before finally looking at Zhou Yan. “Tell me, what is the important matter?”

Zhou Yan then said, “About the magical beast you hunted today. In fact, this kind of monster has appeared all over the world, and it is very deadly. We hope you can be alert. If you have the heart to save the people from the fire, I have a solution….”

When Gabriel heard this, he immediately said, “That’s it?” He interrupted Zhou Yan’s words impatiently, “It seems that my disciples are not wrong, you are really here to cheat and cheat. This news does not need to be said by you, the government has long had the insider information, they will be public about it tomorrow, and those who kill the magical beast will be rewarded. I already have all the information about this matter.”

Zhou Yan sniffed subconsciously and looked at Luo Futu’s head. The latter also frowned. ‘What do you mean the government was public, the commander of this continent was still sitting here, who can publicly announce this news?’

…. Then there was only one possibility left, Thomas held the power.

Information from Kohl Town was extremely isolated, and information shared publicly was half a beat slower than other places.

Luo Futu should also have thought of this, but he did not react and his eyes only became a little cold.

Gabriel covered his mouth and yawned. “After the death of the previous high priest, the Holy Spirit took power. But they are very unpopular with the gods, as soon as they came to power, this kind of thing happened, the first magical beasts appeared in the place of the altar, and the Holy Spirit faction suffered heavy losses. But this is after all an ominous sign, the government blocked the news, only to say that monsters appeared in the world. Oh yes, they also issued a reward order, the people who killed the magical beasts can receive rewards with the corpse. Humph, a bunch of straw bags of waste, they described the magical beast as very scary, but it was still killed by me in the seconds of a move.”

‘The information in this paragraph was a bit too much: what “fallen high priest”…. This is kind of fake news Thomas published in order to compete with Luo Futu for power? Even if others were more inclined toward Luo Futu, now that he was dead, they had to submit to Thomas’s rule.’

And listening to the meaning, how Gabriel seemed to have a lot of good words for Thomas, when he said these kinds of words about the ruler and it could indeed be considered “rebellious speech”.

However, Zhou Yan’s focus was not on his comments about the ruler and regime change, but on his comments about the beast. He stared deeply at Gabriel. “One move to kill? Are you serious?”

Saying this in front of two people who almost died at the hands of this Lurian, this kid was not afraid of a lightning strike? Seeing his serious look, did he really think that he killed this monster? Of course, it was also possible that he happened to run into the Lurian, who was nearly killed by Luo Futu and covered in blood, but did not realize that it was dying from shock before he killed it in one move. However, this did not count as his kill: in jargon, he was called a head-grabber.

Gabriel questioned Zhou Yan’s question. “What do you mean, you don’t believe?”

Zhou Yan was silent, Gabriel suddenly sat up straight and stared at Zhou Yan. “I was patrolling at the foot of the mountain with my men, this magical beast fell from the sky and attacked me, I immediately pulled out my sword and cut its head off, everyone saw it, they can testify.”

“….” ‘You really are a head snatcher!’

Zhou Yan was speechless; Luo Futu at this time suddenly laughed twice. “What sword did you use?”

Gabriel seemed to have some prejudice against Luo Futu and glanced at him, saying, “I do not deal with guys who cover their heads, do not dare to show their true faces, and do not speak to me.”

Luo Futu looked at Zhou Yan innocently, as if to say, ‘see, it’s all because you let me cover my face that people don’t like to talk to me anymore’. Zhou Yan reached out in a bad mood and ripped off his veil.

“Now you can say it.”

Gabriel was amazed by Luo Futu’s stunning appearance and whispered to himself, “So that’s it, an alpha looks like this…. No wonder he has to cover up.”

He was amazed, but his tone was rather regretful and he seemed to be a bit disgusted.

It seems Luo Futu’s real face was not his cup of tea.

Luo Futu’s cursed hand started to move again.

Zhou Yan gently pressed the back of his hand and looked at him with warning. “Business, it’s important.”

“….”

“So what kind of sword did you use?”

Gabriel splayed out in his chair with his legs crossed, and he took the sword from his waist which he threw on the table. “This is the one.”

Luo Futu only took one look at it and concluded, “It’s just an ordinary sword, nothing unusual.”

Zhou Yan understood what he meant: this sword did not have mystic mana on it, and it was not a magic weapon but a piece of iron. Gabriel obviously couldn’t stand other people’s nonsense about his sword, and immediately raised his eyebrows.

Zhou Yan, in order to avoid another little nutritious conversation between them, said bluntly, “He means that the sword without an enchanting mystic spell is unable to hurt the magical beast.”

Gabriel blinked for a moment. “What does that mean?”

“It means that you killed a magical beast that was already dead.”

“….”

Luo Futu was not as euphemistic as Zhou Yan, and he had no good impression of Gabriel from the beginning. He slightly raised his jaw and smiled a bit unkindly. “The real name of that magical beast is Lurian, and I killed it. You, on the other hand, are nothing but a thief who took my war record and went on to cheat.”

Gabriel stood up sharply. “You are talking nonsense!”

Zhou Yan also hurriedly stood up. “Both of you calm down! This is not the point, okay?”

Gabriel was so angry that his chest was heaving, like a frog. In fact, aside from the fact that he dragged the Lurian’s body through the streets, he did not make any mistakes. From the sound of it, he did not know about it. Gabriel was not very old— he looked to be in his early twenties, and he was at best an older middle-aged man who wanted to be a hero.

Zhou Yan reached out and pointed to the stool, asking Gabriel to sit down. “Although it may be a disservice to you to say this, what he said is indeed true. When we encountered this Lurian, it was at Falling Snow Cliff, and the place you passed through should also be Falling Snow Cliff. We had a fierce battle to escape from it…. He was wounded and almost died.”

Zhou Yan originally wanted Luo Futu to show the wounds on his body, but he was obviously not interested in educating children. As if he didn’t understand, Zhou Yan sighed. “If you don’t believe me, you can go check the corpse of that magical beast, which still has his spirit mark on it.”

Luo Futu raised his eyebrows slightly, as if demonstrating to Gabriel. “A double-headed snake.”

Zhou Yan said several things that matched Gabriel’s experience as he did meet the beast at the bottom of Falling Snow Cliff…. When he killed it, he didn’t pay any attention to whether it had any marks on it.

‘What he killed was a corpse?’ Gabriel did not want to believe it. He grabbed the sword on the table and glared back at the two of them. “I’m going to ask for proof! You two, wait for me! If it’s not true, I will make you regret coming into this world!” He finished his sentence and left with a big stride, and Zhou Yan heard him yell at the people outside, “Keep an eye on them! Who told you to tie them up? Keep an eye on them! Don’t let them go! You are not allowed to go in!”

‘…. Oh, that’s a good boy.’

After Gabriel left, Zhou Yan turned around and looked at Luo Futu with no expression, condemning him silently. This bastard had no sense of negotiation at all as he wanted to fight as soon as he opened his mouth. He would never take him with him in future negotiations.

The latter did not look at him at all, blowing on his fingertips while talking easily to himself, “The agreement does not include taking care of children.”

“He may be your little fan boy, didn’t you hear him scold Thomas? Why so harsh?”

Luo Futu smiled and looked at him. “Oh, thanks, I’m not blessed.”

“….”

Luo Futu gently held one of his hands. “And I only have patience for you.”

Zhou Yan mercilessly brushed his hand away. “Oh, thanks, no thanks.”

  1. Seems Gabriel may have been misunderstood; I still don’t like him though!
I wonder when LF will manage to fully recover; more Lurian may now appear and not young ones 😬
Wonder if Gabriel will cooperate with them and provide material for their Mecha.
Thank you both for the chapter.

  2. Ohhhh…. The twist and turns in this captivating story👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Gabriel comes across as a conceited, self centred guy😠

    1. Not really. Gabriel comes across as conceited yet naive sheltered rich kid. But he is a good kid. He truly believed Lurians isn’t that strong, thus condemned Thomas forces for suffering a loss. He paraded the corpse because he truly believed he killed it, and I think as a way to show off to the Holy Spirit faction. ZY might not be wrong, this kid is a hardcore fan of LF 😅. That is why he says the Lurians were bad omen because Thomas killed LF, and why he didn’t like beautiful face. Remember, LF outward holy priest face is that super ugly mask. Maybe that obsession messed up with his aesthetic value 😂. If I am right, whay a pitiful soul Gabriel is lol.
