Chapter 49: The first battle of the mecha

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

The Misty Thorn Mountain, some twenty kilometers from Kohl Town, was experiencing a bloody massacre, with huge beasts tearing through space, appearing out of nowhere from the sky. They were jumping to the ground and feeding on people, against whom humans were defenseless. Even the mystics, whom they usually worshiped like a god, were helpless in the face of these beasts. The survivors once saw with their own eyes that a mystic cast a spell on the beast, and the spell brought some damage to the beast, but the beast did not die. The mystic was pierced by sharp claws through the body, and then heavily thrown out, hanging in the branches of the trees.

Mystics had always been invulnerable to swords and spears, how could they imagine that they would be killed so easily against the magical beast? All those who saw this scene felt a deep despair, their faith in God abandoned them and they felt that the end times had come.

However, at this moment, a man suddenly pointed to the sky and exclaimed, “What is that?!”

The villagers scurrying for their lives subconsciously looked over there, only to see several small black dots jumping in the distance, getting closer and closer. They then recognized that it was a group of steel beasts about the same size as the Wraith, led by a head covered with a silvery reflection. On its shoulders stood a black-robed man, the other tall with long hair and an ugly face like the deceased High Priest.

“High Priest
. The High Priest’s soul has returned?!” The villagers who were still being chased around by the magical beasts knelt down towards the steel beast that they identified as the spirit of Luo Futu, and it was shocking that his mount was a steel beast. Such a shocking thing was something only their High Priest can do.

He was the only one in this world who could do it.

After the test drive, Zhou Yan took the first group of volunteers who were willing to drive the mecha to the nearest Lurian site, with two goals in mind: to test the power of the mecha and to save the lives of the villagers from the Lurians.

These would be the first loyal followers of the Luo Futu uprising.

The mecha that Luo Futu was standing on was the one driven by Zhou Yan, who was almost in tears when he touched the familiar handle again and sat in the driver’s seat.

In fact, considering Gabriel’s status as a rich young man, Zhou Yan did not want to bring him along. After all, it was a test drive. In case something happened and Gabriel’s father came to the door, what would he do? Zhou Yan could not be responsible. However, after seeing this scene, Gabriel could not sit still any longer. He did not expect the so-called “mecha” to be such a cool weapon, plus he still had a dream of being a hero in his heart, so he would not let go of such an opportunity.

In fact, everyone who saw this scene was overwhelmed, including Luo Futu, who would have liked to pilot one if he hadn’t been required to show up as a special symbol and couldn’t sit inside the cockpit.

–He knew that no alpha could resist the attraction of the mecha, and who wouldn’t want to own such a weapon?

Unfortunately, Luo Futu’s face had to play a big role in this plan. He didn’t lose the hearts of the people now, but Thomas deliberately announced his death which was enough to make Luo Futu’s advocates lose confidence. He had to show his face and make another appearance as a savior.

“Awwhh–!”

Deafening howls resounded through the forest. Zhou Yan adjusted his headset and contacted the others via radio, “I’ll take the front end, A2, A3, cover left and right, D3, cover from above.”

Gabriel and Li Qing’s voices immediately came through, “Understood.”

Luo Futu’s voice also said, “No problem.”

Zhou Yan pushed the lever and the silver mecha jumped into the air with a hurricane-like wind, it dodged a Lurian’s lunge and then descended from the sky. Its tough steel lower limbs kicked down heavily and then sunk deep into the Lurian’s head. The Lurian howled, and its already distorted and ugly face was directly beaten into mush before it fell heavily to the ground. The villagers on the ground who happened to witness this scene immediately screamed and scattered, fearing to be crushed by the Lurian’s foul-smelling body, but a few people who were standing at a distance observing all this cheered in the direction of Zhou Yan – they reacted completely involuntarily, originally thinking that it was a desperate situation, but they never thought that High Priest’s mount was so powerful that it trampled the head of that magical beast in one go.

At the same time, Luo Futu, who was sitting on the mecha, and the other two mecha who were in charge of the cover were not idle. Luo Futu held onto the ears of Zhou Yan’s piloted mecha, his basaltic robe was filled with wind and bulged behind him. Luo Futu opened his hand, and a long serpent totem floated in his palm. With a sharp whistle, it smashed towards a Lurian a little farther away. As soon as it touched the big guy, it was like a skinned gyroscope, spinning rapidly in place, dropping flesh and blood as it spun, and finally turning into a huge skeleton that fell heavily to the ground.

The horrific scene was accompanied by a strong fishy smell, and the onlookers were impressed by Luo Futu’s tactics, while also fearing his methods – this move was thrown at the steel and iron monster to cut it down to nothing but white bones. If thrown at a human, there was no telling what would happen.

Luo Futu did not care what others thought as he only felt the pain from the first encounter with this monster along with Zhou Yan. The two were chased by Lurian which was very difficult, and this battle made them feel that this monster is nothing more than powerful.

He didn’t need to use his full strength at all.

Gabriel and Li Qing’s side of the battle was also very successful, because Zhou Yan led the charge into the most intensive Lurian attacks, directly in front of their attacks. Gabriel and Li Qing simply did not have room to play, and felt occasionally overwhelmed. They both only needed to slightly beat a few. After all, it was their first time, and Zhou Yan did not dare to give two novices the heavy task as they are not yet familiar with mecha. In case of improper operation, it was also easy to have an accident.

They were lucky that they didn’t encounter a large number of Lurians on their first mission, and the scene had only three or five, so they quickly cleaned up.

The last Lurian’s body hit the ground hard, and Zhou Yan drove the mecha to the ground with ease, his skills so good that only a light dust was created on the ground. Like a tiger, Zhou Yan was able to kill and be gentle, unaware of how many onlookers in the crowd had fallen in love with him.

Before Zhou Yan had a chance to speak, he was surrounded by a group of villagers who cried out to them, kneeling in gratitude and expressing their joy at having survived the disaster.

–The reaction of Luo Futu was that he was used to being kneeled by them.

Zhou Yan nodded expressionlessly at Luo Futu and stealthily retreated to the back. He did intend to enlist Luo Futu in this way, but he was still a little uncomfortable watching a group of people kneeling in front of him and sincerely thanking him. This world was constantly showing itself its strict hierarchy, but Zhou Yan’s heart yearned for a society where everyone was equal.

The only thing they lacked now was manpower, and these villagers saved by their own hands from the Lurian’s mouth would be the most loyal successors, so naturally they had to be by their side. The other two were not just there for the chores. Li Qing was with the arrangement of personnel to go, so the remaining two people were only responsible for ordering people to do things.

Gabriel enjoyed the praise and gratitude of the people and was eager to go to Zhou Yan – he finally felt a little bit of the true meaning of being a hero this time. It was unlike the feeling he had when he picked up a Lurian’s corpse halfway down the street and dragged it to the street, beating a drum and parading it around, telling people that he had made a great achievement. This time, the feeling was more profound. This sense of fulfillment was different from last time.

Gabriel wanted to share his feelings with Zhou Yan now, but he looked around and found that Zhou Yan was not nearby. That Luo Futu guy wasn’t there either.

“Damn it
.”

Li Qing heard Gabriel’s whispered mutterings and couldn’t help but ask, “Marshal, what’s wrong with you?”

“I was not paying attention, and these two ran away, Luo Futu, that ugly thing, why stick to him every day? Annoying.”

Li Qing gave him a silent look and didn’t say anything. He was tempted to remind Gabriel that those two people were in this state from the beginning, and it looked like it would be hard for the two of them to intervene. However, Gabriel misunderstood Zhou Yan, and he did not have the time to “stick together” with Luo Futu. There were no scenes of romance. Rather, he was crouching next to a Lurian corpse to check its injuries.

“Why are you sighing?” Luo Futu leaned on a pine tree with his arms crossed. He had been standing here for a long time as Zhou Yan crouched over there looking at the corpse from the beginning with his brow furrowed, as if very unhappy.

Zhou Yan heard his voice and looked up his way. Luo Futu then hooked his lips towards him and walked over, his feet stepping on the remnants of snow that had not yet melted in the forest, emitting a “creaking” sound that was very interesting.

“The first battle was successful, the mecha showed great power, you should be happy, why are you still starting to worry?”

Zhou Yan shook his head slightly, and then raised his hand to let Luo Futu come closer to see.

“The situation is not as ideal as you think, I found a little bug
. Look here.”

Luo Futu followed Zhou Yan’s example and crouched down on the side. He then extended a finger and pointed to the Lurian corpse in front of him, “I killed this one, the wound on the left leg was caused by Gabriel, and the skeleton on the right is your work. Look, can you see any problems?”

Three huge corpses in front of them, a small toe as long as their legs, looking really appalling. Even Luo Futu, who had seen a lot of things, also felt some discomfort, and much less cared about the wounds on these bodies. He looked carefully several times, and still could not see the problem. Zhou Yan shook his head, “You see something wrong?”

Zhou Yan stared at the upper limb of the left head and said silently, “There is a wound missing on this head…. I noticed during the battle that the mecha driven by Li Qing had actually hit it, but it only had the wound of Gabriel’s mecha left on it. Do you know what that means?”

Luo Futu’s first thought was that Li Qing’s technique was not good enough to hit the Lurian, but a mecha was different from a normal weapon, so a hit is a hit, and should leave a scar. It’s as if the bullets were ejected when Zhou Yan attacked the Lurian with his gun.

They didn’t go to all this trouble creating a mecha just to create a huge weapon, and the mecha’s usefulness didn’t lie in its size.

Luo Futu then figured out, “So the mecha he was piloting was ineffective against the Lurian’s attack?”

Zhou Yan nodded, biting the tips of his fingers anxiously as he pondered, “You and Gabriel are mystic, but Li Qing is a normal yong…. The mecha you pilot can hurt Lurian, but he can’t. I’m wondering if the mecha is not as effective as a mystic when used by ordinary people….”

If that’s the case, it would defeat the purpose of their mecha.

Luo Futu didn’t agree, “You’re not a mystic either, didn’t you also kill a Lurian?”

“Mn, but Li Qing is not like me either.” Zhou Yan raised his eyes to Luo Futu, “A weapon like mecha is ultimately a weapon of our world, and it’s still unknown whether it’s a perfect fit for an ordinary person like Li Qing.”

— Since telling Luo Futu that he was from another world, Zhou Yan’s psychological pressure had been reduced and he was able to explain things much more easily.

Of course, when he told Luo Futu what he thought, Zhou Yan already had a conclusion in his mind. He felt from the beginning that he and Mystic should both belong to higher-dimensional beings, and that they could use mecha to achieve the same effect. However, Li Qing was only a normal dimensional creature of the Zedoary Continent.

One thing Zhou Yan did not tell Luo Futu was that the mecha that could play its full role was actually alive, and Luo Futu would not have understood it. However, this theory had long been accepted on the Dense Cloud Planet.

“We’ll have to experiment a little more, and find a normal person to pilot the mecha. If there’s no way for a normal person to pilot the mecha directly, it’ll be too much trouble.”

Luo Futu smiled and took two steps closer to him, “You’re so meticulous, I didn’t even notice what you said.”

“That’s because you don’t know mecha, and you don’t care about these big guys either.” Zhou Yan glanced at him, some reproachful meaning.

Luo Futu did not want to deny it at all, and he suddenly reached out to pull Zhou Yan into his arms, his eyes fixed on him. “You are right, only if you care about someone, you will find those details that no one else can find out. So I found out that you have been sneaking around doing something without my knowledge.”

Zhou Yan was slightly stunned, and after understanding his meaning, he averted his eyes uncomfortably, “Where am I being sneaky?”

Luo Futu only looked at him and did not say anything. He could say so directly, but he also did not fear Zhou Yan knowing he knew. He originally wanted to hear Zhou Yan take the initiative to tell him, so he waited for a few days. Zhou Yan did not want to take the initiative to confess, so Luo Futu had to first reveal it.

Zhou Yan recently sneaked to the back of the mountain whenever he could. He hid not only from himself, but also from everyone in the mine. He only came back before dawn and went out again late at night. Luo Futu believed that Zhou Yan would not harm him, but he just couldn’t understand what else he needed to hide from him. He supported everything he did unconditionally.

“Do I have to pick it out? What are you doing running to the back of the mountain in the middle of the night, and more than once?” Luo Futu saw Zhou Yan did not say anything, so he hugged him and then stared down into his eyes, “What must you hide from me to do? I believe you won’t do bad things, but when I accidentally find out, I can’t help but wonder if you don’t trust me as a collaborator.”

Zhou Yan felt that Luo Futu seemed to be getting better and better at dealing with himself lately, and he just stared at himself with those amber eyes and said some words. He felt a bit overwhelmed. Zhou Yan sighed deeply, “It’s not that I can’t trust you as a collaborator, I can’t trust you as an alpha.”

Luo Futu couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows, “Oh?”

Zhou Yan glanced at him indifferently, “I found the material to make inhibitors and if I told you, you would destroy my material before I succeeded.”

Luo Futu froze slightly, “How could that be?”

“Why not, look at the look in your eyes, you know at first glance that you are playing a ghost.”

–Luo Futu was thinking that during his estrus period, he might ask himself to mark him. The last time was not counted. The last time, it was Mu Lian who drugged the food he ate to make him passively enter the estrus stage early, which was definitely not the same as entering the estrus stage naturally.

Luo Futu suddenly smiled and reached out to put his arm around Zhou Yan’s shoulders to lead him forward, “I won’t do anything, I’m not that mean. I will support you in whatever you want to do.”

–Zhou Yan was not going to tell him the materials to make inhibitors, so he would just destroy the whole back of the mountain altogether.

Zhou Yan followed Luo Futu and suddenly said, “I’ve got all the materials, and I’ve collected them, so you’d better not destroy the mountain, it’s useless.”

“….” He thought he was a step too late, he should have asked him earlier.

Zhou Yan exhaled heavily, “Did I guess right?”

“Why do you always think I’m so mean? Of course not, I don’t intend to do anything.”

–Believe him, this alpha is very bad!

It’s a good thing ZY realised the ineffectiveness of Yong piloting their new Mecha, before they were engaged in a larger battle.
I really think ZY knows LF even better than the Mystic does himself 😏
Thank you both for the chapter.
