After Sister Lin retired, Mohr became the only accompanying guide for the Eagle Special Forces. Being responsible for over a hundred sentinels can be quite stressful, but Mohr was always diligent. Before each departure, he would provide simple psychological counseling for the sentinels, who particularly liked him.
In the course of their missions, injuries were common. Lu Cheng’an had suffered minor injuries a few times, and Mohr always took care of him meticulously, personally tending to his wounds and even attentively bringing him water and medicine. Lu Cheng’an enjoyed his gentle care very much.
The sentinels often whispered among themselves, “Whoever gets to be with Mohr would be so lucky.”
Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, Mohr had been with the Eagle Special Forces for half a year. All the sentinels in the team had received his psychological counseling, and as a result, they all held him in high regard.
At the end of the year, as the major legions went on leave, Lu Cheng’an gathered his comrades for a meeting. “Everyone has been busy all year. I’ve applied for a seven-day holiday for you all. Go home and celebrate properly. Rest well, and we’ll regroup on January 7th.”
With a rare seven-day holiday, most people went home. But Mohr had no home; both his parents were deceased, and he had no relatives on the Capital Star. In previous years, he would spend the holidays conducting experiments at the school. Now that he had graduated from university, he couldn’t go back to school, so he decided to stay alone in the dormitory at the White Tower for the holidays.
Lu Cheng’an asked with concern, “Mohr, where are you going for the holiday? Are you going back to your hometown?”
Mohr replied, “No, I’m not going back. I have no relatives in my hometown. I’ll stay on the Capital Star.”
Lu Cheng’an suggested, “How about coming with me to celebrate? It’s boring to be alone.”
Mohr was pleasantly surprised but quickly refused, “No, that would be too much of a bother.”
Lu Cheng’an smiled and said, “It’s okay. My uncle is very easygoing, and my aunt is your mentor. She even asked me about you recently and seems to care about you. During the New Year holiday, come with me and celebrate together.”
Mohr knew that Lu Cheng’an was just inviting him as a good friend. However, going to Lu’s house for the holiday still made him nervous, feeling like he was meeting “the parents.”
“Let’s go. It’s better to celebrate the New Year in a lively atmosphere. They will definitely welcome you,” insisted Lu Cheng’an, and Mohr eventually reluctantly agreed to his proposal.
That evening, Lu Cheng’an drove Mohr home.
General Lu, Dean Jiao, and Lu Zexuan were all at home, a rare gathering. Lu Cheng’an took the initiative to introduce, “I’ve brought a friend home to celebrate. This is Mohr, the accompanying guide of our Eagle Special Forces.”
Upon seeing her disciple, Dean Jiao immediately greeted with a smile, “Mohr, come and sit.”
Mohr nervously placed the gift he brought on the table and said, “Dean Jiao, General Lu, Happy New Year.”
Lu Tingyu smiled and said, “Why so formal? And bringing gifts too?”
Mohr blushed and replied, “It’s just some nutritional supplements and fruits.”
This wasn’t a formal visit to meet the parents; it was celebrating at the captain’s house as friends, and Mohr wasn’t sure what gift to bring, so he bought some food. It wouldn’t be appropriate to come empty-handed.
Lu Zexuan looked at Lu Cheng’an with confusion and asked, “Brother, is this the first time you’ve brought a comrade home for the holiday?”
Lu Cheng’an laughed, “Yes, Mohr’s hometown is too far away, and he has no relatives on the Capital Star, so I brought him here.”
After a few chats with the mentor present, Mohr’s tense nerves gradually relaxed.
Suddenly, General Lu spoke up, “By the way, Cheng’an, Mrs Joseph contacted me a few days ago. She said she found an S-level guide for you, with a compatibility rate of over 90%. It’s quite rare. You’re always so busy, but now that it’s vacation time, do you want to meet her?”
Lu Cheng’an sighed, “Uncle, I spend over 300 days a year on starships. When do I have time for romance? Let’s not delay her.”
General Lu said earnestly, “You’re not getting any younger. You can’t stay single forever. I promised your father to take care of you. Of course, I have to ensure your lifelong happiness. The guide introduced by Mrs Joseph works at the Academy on the Capital Star, is 24 years old this year, and has a good family background and appearance. You should meet her and see if there’s a connection.”
After some thought, Lu Cheng’an agreed, “Alright, I’ll meet her for MrsJosephâs sake.”
Lu Tingyu smiled contentedly, “Alright, I’ll tell her. Let’s have you two meet tomorrow.”
Mohr sat beside them, listening to the conversation between uncle and nephew, his fists clenched lightly, feeling a bitter taste rising in his heart. He had long known that he and Lu Cheng’an could only be friends and comrades. Regardless of their family backgrounds or mental energy levels, they were not considered compatible. Yet, hearing General Lu introduce a potential match for Lu Cheng’an still made him feel sad.
Seeing Mohr’s less-than-pleasant expression, Dean Jiao glanced at him thoughtfully but remained silent. Lu Zexuan seemed uninterested in the matter, occupied with eating his fruits.
After a while, the servants set up a table in the dining room, and Dean Jiao invited everyone to have a meal. Mohr felt somewhat awkward sitting at the table.
Lu Tingyu raised his glass proactively, smiling, “Come on, let’s raise our glasses together to welcome Mohr and celebrate the New Year. Happy New Year.”
Mohr raised his glass and clinked it with everyone else’s. The atmosphere was festive, but he knew he was just an “outsider.”
After dinner, Lu Cheng’an invited him to the backyard to set off fireworks. Colorful fireworks burst in the sky. Mohr looked up at the fireworks, feeling a mix of emotions. He used to spend the New Year alone, but this year, Lu Cheng’an brought him home. General Lu was approachable, with a warm and gentle temperament, and Dean Jiao was always caring. Lu Cheng’an enthusiastically served him food and drinks, taking good care of him.
However, the festive atmosphere of the New Year was dampened by General Lu’s intention to introduce Lu Cheng’an to a potential partner. Perhaps this feeling was what they called “jealousy”? But what right did he have to be jealous?
Lu Cheng’an, carefree as always, didn’t notice Mohr’s unusual mood. He looked up at the sky and said with a smile, “I’ve always loved setting off fireworks since I was a child. Every New Year, I buy a lot. My younger brother says I’m childish! But it’s just a ritual, hoping the fireworks will dispel the unpleasantness of the past year and bring a smooth new one.”
Lu Cheng’an valued “ceremony.” Every time the Eagle Special Forces set off, he would gather everyone for a group photo. He set off fireworks for the New Year, and whenever a team member had a birthday, he would buy a cake and send it to them on the starship, giving them his blessings.
Mohr couldn’t help but be immersed in the warmth brought by Lu Cheng’an. But he also knew that Lu Cheng’an had no feelings for him beyond friendship and comradeship. Perhaps he could only secretly harbor this love in his heart?
Mohr stood aside, watching Lu Cheng’an’s silhouette, and silently buried his deep sense of loss.
The next day at noon, Lu Cheng’an was going to meet the guide he had arranged to meet. Mohr didn’t want to stay alone at Lu’s house, so he said, “Lu Cheng’an, I’ll head back first.”
Lu Cheng’an asked, “Why? We have a seven-day holiday this time. Why don’t you stay a few more days?”
Mohr shook his head, “It would be too much of a bother.”
Seeing his stubborn expression, Lu Cheng’an didn’t insist and said, “Alright, I’ll drop you off on the way.”
On the way to the White Tower, Mohr pretended to be curious and asked, “Are you really going to meet that guide?”
Lu Cheng’an rubbed his temples helplessly. “I don’t want to, but Mrs Joseph has contacted me several times, and Uncle has been worried about me. I can’t ignore their concerns. I’ll meet her to appease them.”
Mohr said softly, “With such a high compatibility rate, maybe you’ll like her when you meet?”
Lu Cheng’an shook his head with a smile, “It’s impossible. I don’t believe in love at first sight.”
Mohr tightly clenched his fists. He didn’t believe it before, but he truly fell for Lu Cheng’an at first sight. Since the day he reported to the Eagle Legion and saw Lu Cheng’an, he couldn’t forget about this sentinel…
Lu Cheng’an noticed Mohr suddenly falling silent and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong?”
Mohr forced a smile and said, “It’s nothing. Maybe I’m just a little hungry. Where are you planning to eat with her? How about you take me to the restaurant, and I’ll have lunch too… Don’t worry, I won’t disturb you.”
Lu Cheng’an didn’t think much of it. “Sure, let’s have lunch together after meeting her.”
The two of them drove to the agreed-upon restaurant together, and Mohr found a corner seat and ordered two dishes.
After a while, the scheduled guide arrived, and Lu Cheng’an greeted her politely and sat face to face with her. The girl was wearing a red sweater, quite pretty, and had a sunny and lively smile. The combination of a handsome man and a beautiful woman seemed extremely compatible.
Watching this scene, Mohr felt particularly uncomfortable.
His mood sank to the bottom, and he couldn’t help but glance at Lu Cheng’an from time to time. Lu Cheng’an, naturally outgoing, chatted with the girl a few times, and they seemed to get along well. Mohr lowered his head, absentmindedly picking at the food on his plate.
Time became unbearably long. After what felt like an eternity, Lu Cheng’an finally got up to send the girl off.
The girl extended her hand and said, “Thank you, General Lu, for the meal. See you next time.”
Lu Cheng’an smiled, “Sure, next time, you’ll treat me, okay?”
The girl agreed with a smile.
After she left, Lu Cheng’an turned to find Mohr, only to see him looking pale.
Concern flashed in Lu Cheng’an’s eyes as he asked, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Mohr forced a smile, “It’s nothing. Maybe I’m not used to the food in this restaurant.”
Lu Cheng’an glanced down and saw that most of the dishes on the table were still untouched, and Mohr had only taken a few bites of rice. It seemed like Mohr had lost his appetite. Lu Cheng’an said with concern, “Are you not full? Shall we go to a different restaurant?”
Mohr shook his head and stood up, “It’s okay. I want to go back and rest.”
Lu Cheng’an had no choice but to send him back to the White Tower.
Mohr remained silent throughout the journey, lost in thought. His face was pale, and he seemed very unhappy. Mohr was usually gentle and had a good temper. Who could have upset him like this?
Lu Cheng’an, feeling puzzled, dropped him off at the dormitory. Remembering that Mohr hadn’t eaten much at lunch, Lu Cheng’an drove to a nearby shop and bought several pastries that Mohr liked, intending to bring them to him.

Awww; poor Mohr đ
Wake up, Lu Cheng’an!
Thank you both for the chapter.
Why is my tears flowing?
