SUMMARY:

As the grandmaster who founded the Demonic Sect, Wei WuXian roamed the world in his wanton ways, hated by millions for the chaos he created. In the end, he was backstabbed by his dearest shidi and killed by powerful clans that combined to overpower him. He incarnates into the body of a lunatic who was abandoned by his clan and is later, unwillingly, taken away by a famous cultivator among the clans—Lan WangJi, his archenemy. This marks the start of a thrilling yet hilarious journey of attacking monsters, solving mysteries, and raising children. From the mutual flirtation along the way, Wei WuXian slowly realizes that Lan WangJi, a seemingly haughty and indifferent poker-face, holds more feelings for Wei WuXian than he is letting on.

(NOTE to all the readers coming here after watching ‘The Untamed,’ this novel is a DANMEI (a romance novel featuring two MEN) we are not adding anything to these chapters. There will be sex scenes in later chapters, if you feel uncomfortable about two MEN kissing and loving one another, please, go away. Do not claim we are adding anything.)

Prologue

“Great news! Wei WuXian has died!”

Less than a day has passed since the siege in LuanZang Hill, and the news spreads through the cultivation world as if it sprouted wings, surpassing even the speed of warfare.

For a while, from the most prominent clans to rogue cultivators, everyone is discussing the siege that was lead by the Four Great Clans and followed by hundreds of smaller ones.

“The YiLing Patriarch has died? Who could have killed him?”

“Who other than his shidi, Jiang Cheng, putting an end to his own relative for the greater good. Jiang Cheng led the Four Clans of YunmengJiang, LanlingJin, GusuLan, and QingheNie to destroy his “den”—LuanZang Hill.”

“I must say, good riddance!”

“Good riddance indeed! We finally eliminated this scourge.”

“If not for the YunmengJiang clan’s adopting and teaching him, he would have been a hobo living on the streets, let alone causing mayhem as bold as the ones these days. The head of the Jiang clan raised him as her own child, yet he defected them and became the enemy of the cultivation world, bringing shame upon the the Jiang clan, even leading to its near-extermination. He is the prime example of biting the hand that feeds him!”

“Jiang Cheng allowed this fellow to live for too long. If I were him, at the time of the defection, I wouldn’t have just stabbed him. In fact, I would have thoroughly examined the disciples of the clan again, so that he doesn’t do those crazy things he did later on. Who cares about the so called ‘considerations’ that he gave to his childhood friend.”

“That’s merely hearsay. Although Jiang Cheng was one of the main forces, he did not give Wei WuXian the final blow. Because he cultivates the Demon Path, Wei WuXian’s powers had backfired and he was ripped to pieces.”

“Hahahaha… That’s karma! The ghost soldiers that he created are like unleashed dogs, biting everyone that they come across. It serves him right to be chewed to death!”

“But, if not for Jiang Cheng making a plan that aimed at Wei WuXian’s weaknesses, the siege might not have succeeded. Should I remind you folks of the item that Wei WuXian possesses? Did you forget about the day that three thousand skilled cultivators were completely annihilated?”

“I heard that it was more than three thousand, possibly five thousand.”

“He’s most certainly out of his mind.”

“It’s a good thing that he destroyed that evil weapon before he died. Otherwise, if it was left in this world to harm humankind, his sins would have been worse.”

“Oh well… You know, back then, Wei WuXian was one of the most promising cultivators, coming from a highly distinguished clan and finding success at a young age. How on Earth did he end up where he is now?”

“This proves that one can only cultivate by following the right path. Using these dishonest practices would only seem beneficial at first glance. Look, what happened in the end? Not even a whole corpse was left of him.”

“Not everything was because of his cultivation path. Wei WuXian’s personality is quite immoral. One’s deeds will be paid, one way or another; what goes around always comes around.”

After Wei WuXian’s death, the period is drawn on the topic. The discussions of the people are mostly the same, with a few unconventional opinions being brought down immediately.

However, the elephant in the room stayed in the back of everyone’s mind.

Nobody could summon Wei WuXian’s soul, which meant that his soul had disappeared.

It might have been torn apart by the millions of ghosts that devoured him.

Or, it might have escaped.

If was the first, then all is well. Then again, nobody doubts the fact that the YiLing Patriarch has the power to move mountains and empty seas. If was the last, his soul would eventually return to revive in his body. When the day comes, the cultivation world, or even all of mortal land, would be faced with the most insane damnation and revenge, sinking into nothing but chaos and despair.

The various clans set one hundred and twenty stone beasts on top of LuanZang Hill and initiated frequent soul-summoning rituals, followed by heightened vigilance and searches for strange occurrences from all over the world.

In the first year, nothing happened.

In the second year, nothing happened.

In the third year, nothing happened.

In the thirteenth year, nothing happened either.

More and more people were starting to believe that, maybe, the YiLing Patriarch actually perished.

Even if he was capable of turning the world upside down, it was finally his turn to be toppled over.

Nobody would remain at the top for all of eternity—legends are only legends.

  1. Okay looking back at it again. I just realized you put a warning now thank you so much. Now those pressed narrow minded readers can finally take a chill pill and leave the sex chapters alone. If they continue to bitch about it istg i’m gonna combust. Easily triggered and offended people should never touched this masterpiece and proceeds to bash the author and her characters and the translators. Stay far away if you are uncomfortable but choose to be negative about it and tries to destroys other’s reading experience. If you prefer the drama cql, then good for you, but don’t ever bash the original source even if this is not an official translation (be fucking grateful that we all get a chance to read the gem i.e mdzs/gdc because of K-san, Addis and ExR team’s working on it day and night for ages with sweat and blood), without this, you or I would not have all those adaptations. And stop comparing the original to an adaptation. The original is the original, an adaptation is an adaptation. Nothing will ever beat an OG. You can have a preference ofc but never disrespect the original novel. And also all adaptations are wonderful in their own way, and don’t look down on the donghua or manhua or audio drama adaptation either as those came out way before live drama adaptation and by the same tone, don’t bash the drama either cause the novel is great and uncensored. All adaptation versions brought the novel to life in their own way and nailed it. Respects in terms of seniority i guess. To Censorship stans and particularly closeted homophobics who happened to stumble here, please do yourself a favor and don’t read it, its gonna be explicit. No one is forcing you to read it, but if you still do despite the translators warning, thats on you and don’t put your hate in the comment sections, cause you read it by your own choice out of curiosity or some other things. Suffer the consequences in silence. But don’t try to be all righteous about it (you’ll are not LWJ, that won’t do). Heed the WARNINGS. Even before opening this site and viewing the contents, there is a warning and if you choose to proceed and got here, that means you are FINE with Danme/ BL content and the explicity of it all. New readers, be warned esp the EXTRAS. Don’t bitch about it afterwards. Read at your own risks.

Sorry for being incredibly rude and crazy, fellow readers. But this is my precious gem and I won’t stand for it when ignorant people bashed this or them.
P.S : The warning at the top 😂🔥👍savage. I love it. New readers see that, you’ve been warned thoroughly
P.P.S : I don’t know why but i’m feeling so nostalgic when coming back here, i want to read it all again💕😊 i miss WangXian. I was in the middle of rereading 2ha.

    1. As we say in European Portuguese ” Quem não gosta não olha, come menos e não chateia” Which translated means that if you don’t enjoy it don’t look at it, don’t eat it and don’t bother the ones that like it!!!

      1. I like it Ana. Thank you. I love MDZS and WangXian so much and the author and translator. I read it so many times and still discover some détails and a better understanding because I learned to read between the lines so I felt even more addict and in love with WangXian 😁💞

  2. Lol i m here exactly for the BL. Whoever searched on google mo dao zu shi will be encounter with big letters that is yaoi. Idk why ppl deny reality and act surprised or say its a bromance u.u

    1. Hello,

Because some pple seek only romanticism (and some think that the novel is based on The Untamed which is the opposite) and unfortunately deny or reject any intimate scene between the MC. I don’t know about you but I have read and reread this novel several times (I still read it) and I am still addicted to it.😁💖

      1. I ve seen the anime, and manhua, 5 ep from the serial, but i said if i want to see the uncensored truth i need to read the novel.

  3. I definitely read this once… But i cant remember because the translation was still ongoing at that time. It was left on my bookmarks bar at chapter 21…

So here i am once again.. And after i finished the novel, i am going to watch the drama. 😍😍😍

Thank you for yout hard work.

    1. I wld just warn about YiZhan to be careful not ruining their friendship further (well, I guess it’s too late for that) by tring to imply some more that they’re rl couple. I really wish that one day they can actually be friends again as their chimestry was so obvious, yet fans stupidity has destroyed it. And to this day, nearly a year after the incident 227, I still see new videos uploaded trying to say that they’re a real couple, and that insanity has led them to be unable to share a stage together in peace!!! Remembering that XZ said he was bk at DAY DAY UP as WYB’s best friend in 2019, it sadden me a lot to see that they don’t even talk to each other publicly anymore, and considering how paparazzi the fans act, I guess not even in private either.

So I enjoy their work separatedly, watching about every drama they’ve played in, but I avoid clicking on videos that seem to imply they’re other than friends, and hopefully one day it’ll stop and they may work again together…

Hopefully too, other BL dramas in process nowadays (for instance Immortals that is often compared to Untamed) will not go through the same stupid behavior from the overenthousiastic fans and rather learn from that sad experience.

  4. I am very grateful I have found the translation of this book in English. Thank you very much for all your hard work. I a looking forward to start reading this book as I have seen the drama and read the manua. The manua made me specially aware o how good a writer Mo Xiang Tong Xiu must be. I am trilled to have found this version of her work.

  5. Yes, just like most of us, I came here for the BL lol. I’ve only watched the donghua and haven’t read the manhua. But, I just decided to read the novel instead. Ooooh so excited!

  6. I love this novel and I have reread it many times🤧🤧when I first read it it was very intriguing to me but I didn’t know that a drama had been made. I watched the drama this year and it’s so so good😭😭the characters are portrayed so well and I have rewatched that many times too. After that I have been just in love with wangxian..so here I am rereading it again after watching the drama. Oh right!! I watched the anime too and it was so so good too 😭😭I love them..I just want to say that I am so thankful to the author and the translator,,, because of them I got to know about these amazing characters and also talented actors like Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo💙💙♥️♥️Thank you so so much :)) I have been recommending people around me lately to read this novel and watch the drama and anime :(( I have gone crazy istg I love wangxian 💙💙💙♥️♥️♥️

  7. Heck, the romance just makes it a thousand times better!! Thank you for translating this novel! I just finished the drama and now seek to quench my thirsty desire for The Untamed!

  8. 5th time re-reading and 1st time reading it in order and commenting. I’ve always had a soft spot for xianxia genre, to find one with this theme that is so well-written is a rare find indeed.

I find it interesting that WWX never even tried once to come back on his own during the 13 years that he had been dead. It comes to show that he probably felt that there was no point to come back because he believed he was hated and therefore there was still no place for him in this world.

  9. Thank you so so so much for this translation. I did come to know about this after watching the untamed, but I’ve been wanting to read this for so long, bcs I knew the series had restrictions. I was searching for this, and I thought I’d never find this. Thank you so much for all your hard work you put in for readers, I really hope you keep growing. All the best, and thank you so much again. I really can’t say how happy I’m

  10. Here again. Reading it again (maybe the 5 or 6th time, ) I am addict to MDZS and WangXian..I read other stories but I always come back to MDZS. I am truly in love with it and I still discover small détails which make me appreciate and understand more the author’s talent and this masterpiece. This novel, you can read it as many times as you like and you will fall in love with WangXian even more deeply😁💞

  11. Is there a way we can download the novel? I seriously love this novel more than I love myself and we all know how sometimes copyright issues can come up that can force a work to be deleted or taken down. Not trying to jinx anything 😭 I know that this is pessimistic anxiety talking but someone please let me know if it’s possible to download MDZS?

P.S. Excited Rebels Scans, thank you a billion for making it possible for me and every other fangirl to be able to read this perfect inspirational work!! Please keep up the good work and I hope your group prospers in every way for hundreds of years to come ❤❤❤🙂🙂🙂 I don’t speak Chinese or Japanese but if I can support your efforts in any ways like financial donations or even if it’s just leaving uplifting comments to boost your spirits, please know I would be willing to do my utmost best.
