Chapter 41: A God’s Marriage (12)

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: GaeaTiamat

Since the day Sa’gya ran away for no reason, he had been acting strangely. The sea otter often looked at Yun Chi in a daze, and then averted his gaze when Yun Chi looked back in disbelief; and while Yun Chi still slept in his arms, he wasn’t as peaceful as before, always moving around uncomfortably, sometimes twisting to this side, sometimes twisting to that side, and it took him a long time to sleep soundly.

…Although in the process of twisting, he refused to let go of Yun Chi.

It was really strange, Yun Chi cupped his chin and thoughtfully mused.

Was he sick? No. Was it because his diet doesn’t suit him? He ate a big bowl of oyster porridge that morning. Was there something wrong with the island? If there was a problem on the island, Sa’gya wouldn’t be sitting here leisurely, fighting with an unfinished scarf…

Yun Chi tried to straighten the tangle and to ask Sa’gya the reason, but the big sea otter only stammered some excuses to cover up, and never explicitly explained.

The young man thought about it and came to a conclusion. If it was a serious problem, Sa’gya’s attitude would be much heavier than it was now, so he must not be bothered by anything big.

Once he figured that out, Yun Chi didn’t care anymore. Besides, when interacting with each other, one must give each other some space. Who didn’t have a little secret?

He was happy again, patted the sunny wooden boards and greeted Sa’gya with a smile, “Sa’gya, come on. I’ll brush your fur!”

Naturally, Yun Chi hadn’t gotten a comb yet, and he didn’t have the professional tools to do such a delicate task as chiseling and creating comb teeth. When he said combing ‘fur’, that meant using his ten fingers like a plow, as he picked through Sa’gya’s thick and rich white fur, and stroking the big sea otter’s finely over and over again.

After so many days together, he had discovered that Sa’gya didn’t dislike others’ touch. Instead, he liked it too much, so that it would even lead to some unaccustomed actions. Usually, when he was at home with Yun Chi, he walked next to Yun Chi, sat down and squeezed Yun Chi. When Yun Chi was cooking in the kitchen, he put his big head on Yun Chi’s shoulder and rubbed Yun Chi’s ears and cheeks back and forth with his hot nose and hairy whiskers around his mouth, and even when he went out, Yun Chi sat on his back.

Except for the times when he was catching oysters and sea urchins, Sa’gya wouldn’t let Yun Chi go into the sea with him, but in general, Yun Chi rarely left his sight.

If he was so sticky, how could he hate touching and stroking?

The sea otter heard Yun Chi’s call, and he silently lifted his head from the bed and looked at his pup.

Combing ‘fur.’ You are combing ‘fur’ for me?

Sa’gya looked at Yun Chi sadly. No, no fur, combing fur will only make things more complicated and difficult…

“Come on!” Yun Chi patted the board again, trying to use a righteous tone of voice to cover up his own heart, “Don’t worry! I’ll take good care of you.”

…It’s because you said that, that I feel bad.

It was just a pity that thoughts were thoughts, and bodies were bodies, and Sa’gya’s body quickly succumbed to Yun Chi’s request and betrayed his thoughts, as he moved over spinelessly and collapsed into a big pile on the board in front of Yun Chi.

“…Alas,” Sa’gya sighed somberly. “Do what you want with it.”

Looking at the huge sea otter that said he could do whatever he wanted, Yun Chi’s eyes glowed. He reached out his hand and rubbed Sa’gya’s head first.

Perhaps because of being a god, Sa’gya’s fur was fluffy and fine when it was dry, while when it was wet, it was like watery satin and the feel was also first-class.

Yun Chi took the stance of petting a big dog. His hand slowly squeezed down from the fluffy fur on the top of his head, and scratched twice around his round soft ears. Sa’gya’s tail shook. Yun Chi then went around to the front, opened his fingers, sunk them into his neck and squinted his eyes.

Yun Chi held back his laughter, used his fingers as a comb, and scraped around on Sa’gya’s broad, mountainous back, as he plowed the snowy fur into many long, thin furrows. After he combed it two or three times, and then he rubbed it with his palm in turn so the long fur all over his back stirred like a wave of water and swayed endlessly.

Sa’gya grunted as he lay in the sun, his limbs flattened, completely melted into a puddle of otter cake under Yun Chi’s hands. Only when Yun Chi nudged him, urging him to turn over, did the big sea otter lazily roll over on the board, not covering up at all from the teenager as he revealed his belly.

Oooh, it’s so comfortable. I was worried…

Yun Chi didn’t care what he was thinking about in his head. He grabbed those big paws, and kneaded the cool pads of flesh for a while.

After rubbing the flesh pads, he continued to rub his fluffy, soft belly. Sa’gya’s chest rumbled with pleasure, and the flippers on his hind legs began to tap the board. He was hungry to feel Yun Chi’s scratching and caressing, to enjoy his happy smile, his love for this fur of his…

For countless years, in the silence of the lonely island, in the cold, dark nights, in those moments when his mind was weak and his body was broken, Sa’gya longed countless times for something like this to be done to him. For a hand to gently rub his scarred spine, to warm his cold palm, to talk to him, to smile at him. He thought about it so much that his heart ached unbearably, and he was even secretly jealous of the gods who could have it all – as desperate and pathetic as that sounded.

So much so that at that moment, when Yun Chi had completely rubbed him into a blanket, spread it out flat, and revealed all of his weaknesses and hurt, Sa’gya was willing to do anything but wish Yun Chi would stop…

Oh, well…He stopped.

Without a comb, combing his fur became a purely physical task, and even though Yun Chi’s strength was much greater recently, he was still tired and panting, his arms sore, and he slowly stopped.

Sa’gya couldn’t lose time. Yun Chi slipped onto the sea otter blanket. His heart contentedly lay in the middle of Sa’gya’s belly, as he slowly sank into the ‘plush’ ocean.

“Finally, I’m done combing!” Yun Chi yawned and muttered. “I’m exhausted. I must buy more combs in the future…”

Sa’gya opened his eyes dully and looked at the neatly arranged horizontal wooden roof, then slowly raised his palms and wrapped his arms around Yun Chi’s back.

His fangs lengthened uncontrollably again, and his divine power raged restlessly, like an active volcano that couldn’t be restrained, and couldn’t help but catalyze every thought that rippled in his mind.

…Every single thought about Yun Chi.

This had never happened before, and Sa’gya struggled to control the items he used to hunt as much as possible so that Yun Chi wouldn’t see the difference.

Oh no, my tooth, he thought sadly, can’t you just stop messing with it?

That night, Yun Chi was sleeping soundly in Sa’gya’s arms when the big sea otter suddenly opened his eyes and sniffed the air.

Something was wrong…He sat up with Yun Chi in his arms. Whether it was the island, the sea breeze, the muddy waves, the anxious animals in the forest…All were full of strange aura, and very wrong.

What was wrong with the ice sea?

Yun Chi rubbed his eyes and looked up hazily. “…Hmm?”

Sa’gya whispered, “It’s okay, you can sleep. Wait for me to go out and see-“

The latter words were not finished, when from the depths of the island came the boom of a collision. Although the strange house remained still, there was a scurrying of birds as they fled the pine forest, and from the depths of the hold, a roaring, chaotic movement.

Yun Chi immediately lost all drowsiness, as he jumped up and said, “What’s wrong?

Sa’gya moved his cheeks. The wind sent a message, so he quickly figured out the reason.

“…The connection with land was advanced,” said the sea otter incredulously. “This collision shortened the distance by almost twenty days.”

Yun Chi was first pleased, “Oh! Then I will get up in the morning and go shopping for things!”

However, then he had a worry, “No. Is this the God of the Sea Wave you mentioned before, or is there really something wrong with the island? Is it not tight, ah?”

“It’s not the God of the Waves. He wouldn’t dare,” Sa’gya muttered, as he thought a little, then he figured out the trick. “I’m afraid it’s my own problem…”

Several times in a row, because of Yun Chi, he rioted out of the control of the divine power, and every time he was out of control he ran to the bottom of the sea to relieve pressure on his own…Those two points should be the culprit for the early contact.

“It’s okay,” Sa’gya sighed. “It’s really not a big deal. Just lie down and go to sleep. In the morning, I’ll teach you how to buy things.”

However, he underestimated the pup’s energy. After he confirmed that it was safe and sound, Yun Chi was so excited that he looked like a schoolboy going on a spring trip set for the next day. He was constantly jumping around on Sa’gya, squeezing his paws, pushing his furry face, and asking questions all the time.

“I will not be able to communicate with the language on land, right? I can communicate with you without barriers, but you are a God, I mean, communication will not come without error, ah? Do I need a disguise? Surely I will. After all, I only wear a single coat and shoes but dare to roll in the snow. For the normal people that must not be normal…What currency do I take? Gold? Silver? Or barter? You said the land already has the concept of ‘country’, then it’s not so much this mouth of mine, ah. If I suddenly appear, a fresh new face, will they question me? How can I prove my identity?”

Sa’gya sighed again and answered one by one, “There will be no obstacles; you need to disguise yourself, but it’s not that disguise you think; for ordinary traders, silver is enough; the language is not so much a problem; they also won’t question you and you don’t need to prove your identity – wait until you return to the island, and all those who have seen you, and have talked to you, will all gradually forget your face.”

Yun Chi froze, then threw himself into Sa’gya’s arms, protesting, “Why? Am I that bad?”

“It’s because this island, the island I voluntarily retired to, is an island of the old gods,” Sa’gya gently touched his head. “The creatures on this island are destined for oblivion. Not just you, but anyone who comes to this island will gradually be forgotten by the outside world.”

Yun Chi asked curiously, “What if I leave the island again? Will those who have contact with me remember me?”

“Well, yes.” Sa’gya apprehensively observed Yun Chi’s reaction, for fear that he would be upset. “If you appear in front of someone again, their memory will also come back, and they will remember that there was something about you in the past, but…”

“Wow! Is this not the same as Peach Blossom!” [/efn_note] from the story “The Peach Blossom Spring” about a fisherman who found a peach blossom filled utopia but left and could never find it again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Peach_Blossom_Spring [/efn_note] Yun Chi cut off Sa’gya’s worried speech. He looked cheerful, and marveled that the big sea otter didn’t understand the term. From his reaction, that people would “themselves will forget” him, didn’t seem to make him sad or down…

What a strange pup.

“Shopping! Browsing! Shopping! Browsing!”

Yun Chi was still overjoyed as he walked Sa’gya, and couldn’t hide his joy as he jumped back and forth on the big sea otter who was lying flat in the bed.

I feel so sorry for Sa’gya, but wonder if he’s right about the reason for the connection to the land speeding up.
YC is lovely and so positive; but he’d wear me out!
Thank you both for the chapter.
